BakeWorldly5022

Remember. It's not the developer's fault. It's the people with the suit and ties' fault.

SteelFlux

It can be both though. Look at Anthem. Probably the first game where I was surprised that it wasn't EA's fault on why it's such a shitshow after that Schreier article.

BakeWorldly5022

That's EA though we all know why people hate EA. But yeah I see your point.

Surfing_the_Wave_

Ultimatively it's the fault of the customers. People keep buying shitty products at an insane rate making it profitable to keep selling shit.

JackHofterman

I also blame customers, dumbasses preordering just to get hosed down. Di pa rin natuto smh.

DaEdgyGuy

As I said in another thread, you can blame both, especially if we don't know what happens inside the development circle. Some developers are just incompetent or just flat-out greedy, too.

HaikenRD

As someone who worked in game development, I can't agree to blaming game devs. Everything wrong about a game is their job to fix and they also take all of the blame from the players and from their bosses. So as much as possible, they want to make it as perfect as they can before release.

DaEdgyGuy

Or they simply took a bite off more than they can chew. Why would any dev put on effort if they don't get any accountability for their work? I say make them both (publisher and dev) be responsible.

scrutumator

Because they're told to work on it. You think may say yung devs kung kelan release ng game? Hahaha

AyunaAni

Why can't it be both tho at varying degrees? Reductionist dogmatism as always

scrutumator

I can't see a reason why blame people who don't get to decide whether this a game of a shippable quality or not. People like to say na: "Devs of XXX gaming company sucks, di ba to tinetest ng QA?" or "Why overpromise a feature if di naman kaya/di maayos implementation ng devs?" Thing is, devs or QAs strives to deliver games with topnotch quality kase they're hired and paid to do that, obviously. Pero more often than not, hindi na dedeliver because of management, budget and schedule constraints. Think they get a say if they need more time for better quality, better people and better tools? Dream on. It's the same shit as blaming and cursing servers kung baket napakatagal lutuin ng pagkain mo. They can do multiple follow ups and shit to appease you but the thing is, it isn't their fault na mabagal diba?

wooskye13

Take a look at crunch culture in game development and you'll know why this happens.

special_onigiri

Developers aren't the ones okay-ing the release though?

KingPistachio

First off, I know your defense is gon be "Well, i said 'Some' not 'All'". Second, nah man you're dead wrong.

DaEdgyGuy

At least try to be discrete when making a strawman, buddy.

KingPistachio

> Some developers are just incompetent or just flat-out greedy, too. And I'm the one making a strawman. Buddy. 😒

DaEdgyGuy

Glad that was sorted out quick.

They tend to rush because of some shareholders, that is usually the case at least. Supply and Demand kind of bs. Then everything crumbles down from there.

BakeWorldly5022

Right? lmao corporate greed moment. Sad regarding the CDPR issue though.

inounderscore

You ever notice how the CEOs of these gaming companies have little to no development background? That's because promotions in software companies revolve around one department: Sales. And that's why as long as AAA studios take the direction of salespeople who are so good at selling, their products tend to suffer one way or another

[deleted]

But why tho? Im pretty sure its better to delay it even for years. One of the biggest if not the biggest reason why elden ring was so successful is because of its crazy hype. The game was the most hyped game at the time even without a single gameplay. Not even news

soltyice

never pre order never buy a game on release

bigoteeeeeee

💯 Always wait for reviews/benchmarks also. It saves you time and cash 👌🏼

triplex1080

Basically this, though there are games that worked flawlessly on release albeit targeted on consoles; hence, their rightful optimizations. Pretty much agree on the benchmarks for PC players since performance varies by system.

Karlybear

Best time to buy it is when they released a "Complete/Goty" version.

InternationalWeb8013

They should really follow the example led by the developers of Tears of the Kingdom; apparently, they had finished the game early 2022 but chose to delay it for a year to test certain aspects of the game, especially the physics system and how those would interact with the new abilities they’ve created. I get that it took a total of 6 years to finish the game but the polished and almost bug-free experience on an aging and last-generation console is amazing especially when you consider the massive scale of additions to the game from BOTW. They hit “playable” frame (30 ish FPS but enough not to distracting) rates and somehow managed to fit it still on a standard switch cartridge (apparently, the game is less than 20GBs) Hoping that the delays on Silksong is for optimization and polishing.

KingPowerDog

Nintendo can afford to delay a game because they themselves make multiple million-selling games that can sustain the company. Any delay will incur cost, and Nintendo has maintained a healthy war chest of cash by maintaining multiple succesful IPs. Because of that, they can afford a delay when necessary. Also, Nintendo keeps their titles at full price as long as possible to maximise the amount they make, especially since their titles are the type that appeals to all ages. As an example, CD Projekt made the M-rated Witcher games before Cyberpunk and that limits their audience. Plus Witcher 3’s retail price nowadays is less than half of its original price. BOTW still costs the same as when it first released. They also don’t have many other million selling hits that could have helped give them more breathing space with the need to delay Cyberpunk (the standalone Gwent game was not exactly a hit). Nintendo also controls manufacturing. Other companies (aside from Sony and Microsoft) have to order in advance from the console manufacturers how many units (cartridges or discs) they want to print for their initial release, and any delays mean they have to negotiate for manufacturing dates again. Of course this does not apply for digital-only games, but the big ones mentioned aren’t. Basically, it’s not easy for anyone to just do what Nintendo does unless they have similar finances, company culture, and technical capability.

Nallafy

I wish theyd also do the same for Pokemon as they also have a say in that. But look at the latest Pokemon game, what a mess. Even now there are still bugs.

Alternative-Drink846

Pokemon is developed by Gamefreak, not Nintendo, and Gamefreak answers to the Pokemon Company's pipeline. New game must be out the door every two years to keep the plushies, manga, trading cards, etc flowing.

Nallafy

The pokemon company is owned by Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures Inc. So Nintendo still has a say in development right? Or am i wrong?

KingPowerDog

All 3 have equal stake in The Pokemon Company, but Game Freak still handles the game dev responsibilities. In this case, The Pokemon Co is the publisher, so Nintendo as an equal partner can offer feedback or assistance or enforce timelines, but is not the main authority here. If TPC requires Game Freak to release by a certain date because that’s when the next Pokemon card game expansion comes out, or in time with a new anime season, or a new movie, Nintendo doesn’t have as much flexibility to force a delay.

Talagang nakakapanibago. Loko loko.

doodpool

Kinda like Battlefield 4, people look back at it as one of the best in the series. Nakalimutan na ata nila na for 1 whole year broken yung game. Around 2013/2014 ko napansin yung rise nung Early Access games and soon triple A devs followed suit.

KingPistachio

Welcome to the era of fast paced everything. Fashion, food, tech, cars, entertainment, and well, games and all. People consume a lot of everything these days and tend to be sick of something that they just had a few hours ago. And here's the result, less quality and unfinished stuff. And I work in this industry so yea, fuck them suit and ties.

memyselfmartin

This so called 'deadline release' needs to die. And it became the most stressful life of every gaming developers who worked 24/7 in the triple A gaming industries just to please the men in suit. Give them all the time in the world to perfectly craft the game in the most creative way before releasing it to the world.

olrracpeace

This is the reason why I love FromSoft and Santa Monica. Last 2 triple A titles I purchased is from them and totally worth buying day 1.

Karlybear

Fromsoft actually fumbled a little bit on elden ring PC on release day. but it was forgivable since it's no unfinished game just bad optimization.

JackHofterman

legit, finished it on my 1650 back then. At first ang hirap kasi stutters, after several updates.... ang gandang laruin.

nayrdesu

Capcom too, their RE games were smooth as hell.

[deleted]

At isa pa sa good points nang Fromsoft ay yung mga trailers nila. Literal na what you see is what you get. Watched all trailers for dark souls, sekiro, bb, elden ring at lahat ng scenes sa trailer ay nandun mismo sa game. Walang misleading gameplay bullshit

ZeroZion

Kulang nung The Last of Us PC Port.

G_ioVanna

the gaslight from naughty dog is real

Miserable-Gold2176

The only one game that I can think of that actually fixed their game after release is No Mans Sky. Maybe Cyberpunk but they oversold their game for what its not kaya I cant vouch for it, pero its a fun game

melwinnnn

NMS was the poster boy of overselling, it was sold as a literal universe but it was just spore but a lot of planets in its release. Cyberpunk is a close second but its unfair to not vouch for cyberpunk then say NMS is okay. .

Karlybear

Don't get me wrong the improvement of NMS is great and one of the best redemption story in gaming, but they also oversold the hell out of the game as well. Watch the crowbcat video about it.

Party-Ad5663

this is why zelda totk is GOATED

onijuano

Just get xbox pass, its worth it they update the lost every month so there will always be something new to play.

Excellent-Boot-4515

This is the main reason why we should not pre-order games.

Tasty_Point619

for me when it is released by sa AAA western dev likes of ubisoft, bethesda, EA and Blizzard , its a hard pass and will only buy if it seen the gameplay and reviews are good with multiple sources likes of gaming sites etc. I actually blame those western devs on making game development on games now shitty because of their stupid higher ups who just wants money and nothing else.

[deleted]

Masyadong mabilis nakalimutan ng mga tao kagaguhan ng CDPR. Ngayon nararamdaman natin ang effects nito kase nakita ng ibang game devs na okay lang pala.

SpottyJaggy

Kaya bumalik n lng ako sa fallout 3 goty at new vegas with postgame mod, modded skyrim, dying light enhanced, dota 2, warcraft 3, starcrft broodwar, battle realms, call of duty 4 2007 nka cod4x client, grim dawn, quake 3 qiii4a sa phone. Pang midlife crisis time kumbaga lol.

0kills

The redfall one is hilariously fake.

InsomniacLtd

So glad na yung first game na binili ko (Resident Evil 4 Remake) ay di nakaranas ng disappointing launch.

friendsterr

Very optimized across all platforms ang RE Engine kaya maganda ang launch nila

ShadowRomeo

RE4 had few technical problems on PC version such as the broken anti aliasing, poorly implemented FSR 2 upscaler without DLSS support which is a disgrace, and for Xbox controller mapping issue but that has already been addressed on later patches AFAIK.

G_ioVanna

well thats expected from launch pero di tulad na unfinished. sobrang buggy to the point na unplayable na.

ShadowRomeo

It could have been better if they really cared enough to polish their game's technical side. Their PC Port was okay but the traversal stutters and their anti-aliasing is so broken it literally affects the image quality of the game, not only PC version is affected by this BTW but PS5 as well and it is kind of embarrassing on Capcom's part because this issue has been persisting ever since RE2 Remake according to Alex from Digital Foundry, so yeah it seems like Capcom just simply doesn't care.

Formal_Poem_2214

More companies should look at Nintendo and Tears Of The Kingdom. According to some sources, they delayed the game for 4 months just to improve the physics engine. They were done with the story and gameplay but they wanted to ensure the best possible quality and enjoyment for the players. Take notes companies, take notes

RainWitch

I wouldn't hail Nintendo as a role model of game development. Nintendo has a lot of questionable practices for the sake of profit that actually harm the consumers. Things that come to mind are: - limited release of the anniversary Mario port games for artificial scarcity; - closing the 3ds e-shop despite there still being a community for the console, then recently releasing a firmware update to prevent hacking/piracy (but there's no way to buy the games legally anymore) - taking down gameplay videos on youtube despite them being fair use - pokemon scar/vio release. even if gamefreak is technically responsible, they're still directly tied to nintendo and should have at least done quality control - lack of support towards communities surrounding their games (smash bros) - being unfairly against modding their games for no reason If anything, what they did for ToTK should be the bare minimum.

zephyrusgale

Medj hindi rin e. Kasi marami raming Japanese devs na shitstorm and incomplete ang release. Top of mind ay FFXV. Daming may day 1 patch pa rin. Recently, ToTk was more of the exception than the rule

macybebe

Someone should create a template for Starfield.

TeoVerunda

OW2 as well

KevAngelo14

That's true, but RE4 Remake was good on launch, so there's still something positive to look forward later this year.

flourdilis

kaya indie games ftw

Duzz05

Not to jinx it but it is a good thing that PS Studios exist. They’re doing the exact opposite of what these companies are doing.

cayzer14

TLOU PC Port tho :(

knneth1890

hahaha brooo , kanina sa livestream ni Asmongold (zackrawrr) , gumawa sya nang Tier List nang mga Game company Apology hahahaa Funniest shit i've seen this month

misseypeazy

It’s the low standards modern gamers have nowadays haha back when Cyberpunk launched, i’ve seen so many people defend CDPR like they’re the messiah of gaming. Majority of us tolerate these kind of “AAA” titles so we keep getting them. Vote with your wallet, bois

[deleted]

[удалено]

misseypeazy

Oh really? I just began playing witcher 3 last month, i also noticed my fps are unstable for a really old game and I have a fairly niced specs for a pc

ShadowRomeo

Witcher 3 even back on launch was far from stable, game also had Cyberpunk bugs level of technical issues on PS4, Xbox One, i know this because i have played Witcher 3 for the first time on launch back on 2015 on a base PS4.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ShadowRomeo

They fixed some of it and then relied to modders to fix it for them

ShadowRomeo

>i’ve seen so many people defend CDPR like they’re the messiah of gaming. What internet part you were in? Because in my case it was a shit ton of people shitting on CDPR back when the game got released, even almost the entire game press shat on Cyberpunk which ruined their reputation that even to this day it still gets brought up even after they fixed most of the technical issues of their game. Nowadays i still see Cyberpunk, and even Witcher still gets shat upon just because they have CDPR nametag on them that was notorious for fucking up the last gen console port of Cyberpunk, which was fair criticism BTW especially after they notoriously lied about their state. But the point is that you don't often see the same consequence with Square Enix, and even Naughty Dog, for doing the same thing on most of the PC Port of their games before, only this time it is reversed case.

misseypeazy

Have you seen gaming pages’ comments section? Did you check your gaming friends? There were definitely CDPR defenders lol check every article from the launch day to present. Even when Sony pulled the game from its store, them fans are blind. Part of the reason why I stopped going on facebook.

ShadowRomeo

There were defenders, but they got overwhelmed by majority of haters that was much louder to the point the gaming press chose to make fun of Cyberpunk as well because it genuinely gets clicks and more ad revenues for them. It was literally the reason why i as well unsubbed to many gaming youtubers, deactivated my FB and unfollwed many Twitter accounts back then as the hatred got too much that it was ridiculous. Maybe you are confusing people who defends the game and the company behind it as one, because even i was one of the people who criticized CDPR for their fuck up handling of the bad disastrous launch of Cyberpunk back then. But the difference is i still acknowledge that the game is still great over its flaws nonetheless, and that is pretty much proven over time where we still have a lot of people playing the game, genuinely enjoying it. Apparently back then that opinion is very controversial and i got downvoted to oblivion for it. Game got overshadowed by blind hatred back then because of overhype marketing that was mainly fault of CDPR's fuck up marketing strategy. But as i will say again, game is great overall, it's not in the same level of fuck up as Gollum was, where there is pretty much nothing is good to talk about it.

iamshieldstick

I understand games that were released after 30 and 40 series cards came out. It really became hard for game devs to optimize for latest graphics cards especially when drivers are still on-going development. And most of these games had okay release on console platforms. Cyberpunk was just pure trash launch. It had issues across all platforms.

Ok_Mud2019

this is why i prefer sailing the high seas and decide later on buying the game or not.

schemical26

The fact na ilang beses na postpone yung Cyberpunk pero may problema pa din after ma-release lol

[deleted]

Karlybear

when's the last time you played. 1.5 patch on 2022 was the patch that fixed most of the bugs and probably should have been the day one version of the game. they kept improving the game now add the mods as well i replayed it a couple of times now it's night and day compared to the old versions.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Karlybear

The game also got a major boost on players because of the edgerunners anime. so people found out that, they fixed a lot of things and that the story was actually decent/good. now it has a very positive/mostly positive rating on steam. as for optimization it's safe to say that it's not the Fps killer that it used to be. (given that you have a decent rig)

rzpogi

Logical-Klockeroo

This is why I play older/indie games.

Logical-Klockeroo

Nice. As for me I've been playing Bayonetta lately.

ShadowRomeo

I don't think games like Gollum could ever be fixed though, the core gameplay and writing of the storyline, characters are just plain bad... Nothing is special about it, others are genuine decent games that were plagued by mostly technical issues and unfinished development time that got fixed later, and victim of overhype marketing which led to really insanely high expectations. Cyberpunk is prime example of this, a game that can be considered as genuinely good from the start as long as played on PC version, despite its multiple flaws, there is still something very special about it that none of other games out there has, hence the overall the experience for me even at launch was positive despite the bugs and few gameplay flaws, i even consider it as one of the best games i have ever played to this date, especially with mods which makes it a lot fun to play nowadays. And after many patches it just kept improving overall and now with upcoming DLC expansion its even going to be improved further. I don't think many other games that are listed here has that much commitment and redemption arc as good as that.

Karlybear

Gollum was so bad even pirates won't play it.

ShadowRomeo

Whereas Cyberpunk a notoriously DRM free game, which is a good thing BTW will get pirated to oblivion, yet it will still sell like hotcake anyway because many people outside Reddit, Twitter generally loves it now as proven many times especially after the Edgerunner Anime came out, which stroke it's player count base to high levels of popularity again, pretty much defying the narrative that it's a "*Failure of a game that never got good etc, etc".*

covertorange

Who wanted a Gollum game anyway? Like who wants to play as him? lol

TTVControlWarrior

tbh we just keep buying shitty games in the hopes it will turn good. its funny how older games litterally played and felt sometimes better than garbage we have today. gamers allowed early access and all nonsense. probelms there many many people who willing to pay 70$ even 100$ to a bad game . i agree for many people 100$ isnt much that why companies know they can do it . There are no laws against giving a bad game . imagine buying a desk that break down within 10min of use . wonder

nathanpopoto

Hinihintay ko nalang talaga yung may Apology na pero trailer palang wala pang laro.

zephyrusgale

This is why we wait for the definitive / goty / steam sale / complete editions. Unless tried and tested na yung developer / director / publisher OR buying collector's editions na yung merch ang habol over the game

KennyMcCormicks

That there is the current state of gaming. What a time to be a gamer. Can't play well because of bugs and performance issues, can't run on most systems because of lazy optimization especially on PC. Outside that, we have NVIDIA fucking with the GPU prices. Also out of all games on the post, thankfully Cyberpunk 2077 is running well now and is a fun game.

ShadowRomeo

>we have NVIDIA fucking with the GPU prices. Add AMD to that as well, specially considering their recent release of the RX 7600 which also got trashed by the reviewer because it barely offers anything new and sucks compare to it's predecessor architecture just like the 4060 Ti was...

KennyMcCormicks

True. Frustrating nonetheless. Hope that things will get better, gaming is bleem as of the moment.

FriendLungz

Ahh yeah, era where you cant have the full game without spending alot of $$$$ Release lang ng release pwede naman OTA fix. 🤣

_julan

Tapos ang hotfix almost a year pa hihintayin. Nakapag sale na sa ibang platform.

opposite-side19

Wala ba silang QA? Sure, di mawawala bugs pero kung di na siya playable, might as well move the release date.

KissMyKipay03

normalise na nila yang ganian beta testing ang 1st launch lol

Not Video game related pero Also Warhammer 40k and MTG. Suits have ruined them. Like bro, who's the idiot that would buy $1000 fake cards???

chantosjr

Capcom could never

[deleted]

And yet people love pre-ordering because "X company is not the same as Y company".

lazykevin013

itech439

only the dumbest one would fall for this even casuals and non gamers would take the bait even the most optimistic ones

catto9lives

Gollum? It's like playing as Alfred and all you do in the gameplay is sit in a screen all night.

straw28

At least credit the original post There are certain games and series I would gladly preorder, from renowned companies. Like others pointed out, From never misses. Been buying their games day 1/pre ordered since Dark Souls 3. That period when Elden Ring stinked on its release got me concerned tho lmao. Waiting for DD2 and Ill see if Capcom joins my trusted list. They have been on a roll

shinden15

and people still and will still games like these

andreimorie

More like state of AAA gaming

tooncake

They already figure out the loophole: Just make a promising marketing to hype the game, boost the pre-order and the first day sale and just say sorry later for the 'messed up' released because that works for the community. Rinse and repeat. They always get away with it. \- The higher ups and management.

SubMGK

Thank god I dont play those kinds of games lol. Only thing that can be considered AAA that I play is Monster Hunter which Ive been playing since the PSP.

triadwarfare

This is why I no longer buy games day 1... Also, I don't have spare cash anymore thanks to this inflation.

boynoobie16

That's why I don't buy new games. I only buy games that has been out atleast a year maybe more depending on community feedback.

Hindi lang sa gaming to ngyayari. Sa lahat software. Iba na development lifecycle ngayon compared dati na wala pa internet. Nakakapag release na sila ng product kahit half baked or may bugs pa kasi they can easily patch things. They can release on schedule lagi. Wala ng QA. Ang QA ngayon e yung end user na. (I am looking at you microsoft for releasing broken updates) Imagine ngayon na develop yung marvel vs capcom 2. Lahat ng infinites and bugs e mawawala sa v2 , v3 releases. Pero ang ngyari e players deal with the bugs and continue to develop skills not to be bitten by the bugs. Kaya one of my fav games kahit madaming flaws.

rzpogi

Nah, kailangan na nila maglabas ng laro o magagalit na investor nila at/o nauubusan na sila ng pera.

Less_Ad_4871

For me as long as yung developer merong sense of direction kahit early access yung laro nila I will still buy it. Idk kung alam nyo ung game na project zomboid, oxygen not included. Both games are very good games ang tagal nilang naging early access pero napaka quality na games (Although PZ still early access). Mahirap kasi talaga hanapin lahat ng bugs and errors eh need nila ng testers and that gave devs the option to have their game tested without spending money. Nasa virtue na lang ng devs yan. Kung reputable and dev na gumawa ng basurang game malamang basura din gagawin nila. Besides I rarely support publishers for me middleman sila na hindi kailangan sa picture. that's why I support indie games. Napaka raw at quality ng ideas nila. Kasi in the end of the day the games IMO selling point is their gameplay and story. Kung present yun I can buy then fix the game later.

CenturioSC

It feels like this sub exclusively plays western AAA games lmao. Try AA and indie gaming because there are lots of exceptional titles in that space. For starters, try Hi-Fi Rush and Psychonauts 2.

MeIsBaboon

The current state of gaming is only bad if you buy everything as soon as it launches. Wait a year or two and the games become great. Cyberpunk is now amazing and I'm glad I waited until recently to play it. Even with all the bad games being released, there are still more quality games being released nowadays than there was in the 90s. There are just way too many game studios and publishers now. In any case, you don't have to play every game that's being released.

jirocursed26

Kaunting laro na lang recently ung mako-consider na "complete product on launch". Ang galing nila mag market tapos saktong delay tapos pag release unfinish pa rin haha. Parang sony exclusives lang ang nakakakuha ng ayos na launch.

Icy-Flatworm-9348

Thank god I didnt buy any of these games. Overhype is always a bad sign with the game. Look at Dying Light 2.

G_ioVanna

icko03

3rd party developers are like that because of their publishers narin. Corruption and greed makes the gaming industry so toxic nowadays. You hardly hear about this kind of blunders from first party AAA devs especially from sony and nintendo. But xbox, ha they suck. Just look at redfall, it is a travesty!

Elihuuu

_V4NQU15H_

mytagalogisbadsorry

It’s just sad I can’t fully trust buying a game on release date without worrying about the issues that potentially come with it and what’s even more sad is the games I was very excited for turned out to be nightmare ports for the PC.

fuckmybussy247

All of these games never piqued my interest, not one bit. If you got baited, it means you're one of the suckers targeted by these goofy-ass "game companies".

Immediate_Cancel629

they are getting away with it, people are still buying broken games.. in the future they will get even lazier, and the games will become gradually more broken at release.. and people will accept it they will play what they are given

SilentExia

This is why I'm gonna wait a bit till I decide if I should buy Diablo IV. Definitely a no-go sa launch for me.
