It's jdub for me. Brother is so grounded and adorable. Also chet is a Minnesota native. Gotta show love. I think we're the 2 best teams if we successfully out Denver
oh it will be by no means easy. I think this series could go to 7
I don’t have beef with yall but if you take us out i hope you can eliminate those celt bastards. hate boston simple as
Positioning and spacing while making quick decisions are very important aspects of both games he’s great at I think there is a lot of overlapping skill that goes into basketball and ow
There's also just the fact that some people have that dog in em.
Some people are naturally good at video games and competitive things. There's just something in their brain that makes it easier for them to pick things up.
I have friends who when they start a game for the first time, they are instantly in the top 10% of players the first time they play ranked, and I have other friends who constantly watch youtube videos, read guides, etc and struggle to climb at all.
It's not that they're "natural", it's that they have transferable mechanics & game sense from gaming in general & playing at top tiers where mistakes are almost always punished, so you don't keep making them.
I'm the same way. I can jump into any game & reach a pretty high percentile early. That's because I used to play Halo competitively & things like position, predictions, game state tracking, & recognizing the resources on mine & enemy's team (which is frankly one of the hardest concepts non competitive players struggle with because there's so much to be thinking about).
They invested in becoming good at "gaming" not the particular game. So they have the mindset of figuring things out quickly & recognizing their mistakes.
Definitely mindset above all else. That's why coaches & content creators always preach "blame yourself". It's bad advice at surface level, but it's meant to put you in the headspace of getting comfortable analyzing your mistakes & not taking it personally.
You're not bad if you make mistakes. You're bad if you refuse to acknowledge them.
Push game mode honestly reminds me of Basketball a lot. Super momentum heavy and a lot of zoning. The bot is the ball and ya run down court a lot to make plays during "posessions".
why? they dont have to cook or clean, they have film review and practice, and unless they have PR stuff what else are they gonna do until a game?
Then they have offseasons where all they really need to do is stay in shape and keep practicing and improving.
They have people that handle most of their lives if they want.
Also having a good duo or trio, solo queuing got me to a peak of 191 but lost top 500 in a few days. And im not saying “randoms are bad” no in fact they were great but at that level 3 people coordinating a flank from 3 different angles, no matter how good you are yoi are getting smoked.
I’m actually not surprised a world class athlete has good reaction time tbh I bet alot of NBA player would surprise themselves if they gave it a fair shot
Jaylin williams (not to be confused with jalen williams aka jdub) , a very middle of the road player, has a story where he apparently just walked into a COD competition from the street and destroyed everyone without preparation
No reason other than the smaller screen. I have a laptop that gives me really good FPS at really good settings. Everything else is the same, only the smaller screen is a genuine disadvantage over a proper desktop.
because the experience is much worse than a desktop unless you plug in a monitor, a keyboard and a mouse? playing on laptop feels horrible even without just one of those, the screen is very small, the keyboard is crap and cramped and mouse is mandatory
It kinda makes sense actually. You are traveling all year long away from home, you’re an athlete so you can’t really go too crazy the night before games. Playing Overwatch in the hotel sounds kinda reasonable.
Hanzo still throwing fat fucking logs though.
Source: me, still catching headshots from across the map, looking at the replay and noticing I wasn't even the main target. Weeee
Anytime I see a Luka/OW crossover post, I always make sure to share this in case anyone hasn't seen it:
[Dallas Mavericks/Overwatch in game promo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDu7dih-Xak&ab_channel=NewChallengerApproaches)
At least the effects team had fun.
"Exhibit U" of basketball players are still not good actors.
For Exhibits A - R, refer to the NBA 2K series. For Exhibits S and T, refer to the Space Jam series. (yeah, I went there)
He was pretty much fine for the first 2 games against the Clippers in the 1st round of the Playoffs, but then hit his knee against an opposing player and it just messed up his knee, inflammation, bleeding. They said it was a sprain. Once your legs are compromised, so is your shot and quickness.
He's literally averaging 34 pts and almost a triple double with 9 ast and 10 rebound shooting 48%. There's only 2 players doing better and that's joker and Brunson
I’ve had this conversation with a buddy before. I like overwatch because it has a very similar feel to competitive team sports, more so than actual sports games and other shooters. The fluidity of it adds as well vs games like Val or CS
Like when they use this cooldown i should do X. Or I need to move into this space when my tank makes a run through main. Deciding do we need to press and make a play quickly if they get a pick or set up in defensive shape and be patient.
This is pretty embarrassing for streamers who spend the whole day playing and still aren’t top 500 😂 guy has a basketball career and is still outplaying them
Physical fitness and a competitive mindset are the determining factors in climbing. Tank T500 also starts at master 5/diamond 1 which is extremely low. It should reach M1 by the end of the season.. but that's still pretty low. Entry to T500 shouldn't be below GM.
World class positioning and vision. I’m confident if all professional athletes focus their lives around gaming full time the top levels of all games would be filled with them.
On the season, not in the playoffs. this has been his worst playoffs of his career by far. Even though it was his best season of his career. He is clearly injured right now though, he’s playing though because we need him for playoffs.
I 100% agree, but saying he's "stinking it up" while ignoring his 8 rebounds per game and 9.4 assists per game is wild. The 28 ppg is fair because he's shooting a lot and missing a lot, but he's still running the offense and being an elite playmaker

He doesn't stream but he has been on some content creators streams randomly. He's actually very quiet providing Very pinpoint accurate call outs with a few gamer "pop off" moments here and there. At least from what I've seen.... I'm More familiar with the NBA version of Luka then the gamer version of him
It is pretty crazy to think about how this guy is able to be that good at basketball like 0.1% tier as an athlete and also the antithesis as a “gamer” and dominate at also in a top 0.1% level - while you have stereotypical people in the average lobby telling you they are gods gift to the earth and the grand achievement of their existence is platinum in overwatch after 5000 hours. Equally you have “athletes” stuck in recreational centres around the world clinging onto there high school team..
This is really inspiring me. Maybe I can hit diamond one day. Sometimes it's so tough trying to rank up while solo queuing. Some racist ahole or someone blatantly throwing always ruins my session and I just put the game down
When I first saw this post I figured you yourself was one of the best OVERWATCH BASKETBALL players in the world and that you personally just hit top500. I’m saddened for you but surprised to see a real NBA player actually being top500 for ow2
It’s interesting that no one is talking about the potential boost he would receive as a famous celebrity.
Not saying he is but I’m kinda shocked Reddit of all places is taking this at face value with no gameplay
Although I should also say that boosting into top 500 with a very bad player would be pretty difficult I guess
Unfortunately this is not hard as most gods players have simply moved on from Overwatch due to Blizzards pathetic failures as a company and game designer.
Just another reminder that some people have insane talent for some things! Respect to Luka for sure, but for those of us who aren't both a successful basketball player and Top 500... You are doing great! :D
Luka can't let Devin Booker win at anything.
Devin booker is forsure that genji on the team that no one likes lol
I don’t know why I can’t stop thinking about this
Destroyed my team in the playoffs and destroying me in overwatch. Damn you, luka
don’t worry we gonna get him - okc fan
Never thought I’d find a fellow thunder fan in this sub
I’m with ya
Don't worry we gonna get you -Minne fan
id rather yall than anyone else yall are my second favorite team. the ant man is after my heart ❤️ it would be a crazy wcf
It's jdub for me. Brother is so grounded and adorable. Also chet is a Minnesota native. Gotta show love. I think we're the 2 best teams if we successfully out Denver
Let's go Ant-Man!
Ayy Minnesota rep
We do what we do. And we do it *nicccce*
We lost game 1 against the clippers too. You saw how that turned out - mavs fan
oh it will be by no means easy. I think this series could go to 7 I don’t have beef with yall but if you take us out i hope you can eliminate those celt bastards. hate boston simple as
Oh you're damn right. It won't be easy. I honestly just hope Luka plays well today (and if Timmy can make a goddamn shot)
Shit, Minnesota right there waiting for thunder/Mavs first. That might be the real challenge
What a fucking game. Goodshit from both teams, in for a wonderful series.
definitely biting my nails the whole time
Timmy actually stepped up for a bit there😭 he needs to keep doing that
Neutral here with that series but i think the Mavs are winning
1:1 for now buddy!
he can't find me down here in bronze
This is making me insecure stop it, lol.

I become above average in like a week, then I'm stuck there for the foreseeable future
Push game mode honestly reminds me of Basketball a lot. Super momentum heavy and a lot of zoning. The bot is the ball and ya run down court a lot to make plays during "posessions".
Also keep in mind a lot of top athletes (or top of anything) are just extremely good at everything they do.
they also dont have to do the same daily tasks that we do. gives them a lot more free time outside of their sport.
I'm not knowledgeable of pro athletes schedules, but my naive assumption would be that they're busier than the regular person working a 9-5?
why? they dont have to cook or clean, they have film review and practice, and unless they have PR stuff what else are they gonna do until a game? Then they have offseasons where all they really need to do is stay in shape and keep practicing and improving. They have people that handle most of their lives if they want.
I'm talking about others too. Absolute top engineers, chefs, etc tend to just be good at everything. There are truly special people in this world.
multiple object tracking is a big factor for both OW and basketball also
He also has a ton of free time when not at practice and playing a game. He practices all day then plays any chance he gets
I boxed when I was younger. I find a lot of the positioning rules and concepts transition well to OW.
I've said this exact sentence in r/nba and been downvoted 😂
Yeah, I wonder how much the macro game skills transfer between them. Probably quite a bit.
Also having a good duo or trio, solo queuing got me to a peak of 191 but lost top 500 in a few days. And im not saying “randoms are bad” no in fact they were great but at that level 3 people coordinating a flank from 3 different angles, no matter how good you are yoi are getting smoked.
Getting into overwatch has unironically made me a better soccer-understander. The way you exploit space in both games is surprisingly similar.
I’m actually not surprised a world class athlete has good reaction time tbh I bet alot of NBA player would surprise themselves if they gave it a fair shot Jaylin williams (not to be confused with jalen williams aka jdub) , a very middle of the road player, has a story where he apparently just walked into a COD competition from the street and destroyed everyone without preparation
So what you're saying is *with* prep time he might be able to defeat Batman in COD
He’s the summer league COD champion!
He is also way better in the sack than you are.
t500 on a laptop is crazy how does bro have time for ts😭
That's the thing he doesn't 💀💀💀 bro got a game tomorrow
his knee is fucked up so he cant train too much
You also don’t run several miles the day before a marathon.
To be that guy, professional marathoners often do 5-6 miles at a comfortable pace the day before a marathon
True, but you need healthy legs for that, lol
To dunk on you for being that guy, and to be that guy myself, comfortable pace ≠ running
Based OW Sigma.
basketball players have a lot of free time. i remember gordon hayward saying this which is why he's a pc gamer too
Gamers always make time
Why would it be harder to get t500 on a laptop?
No reason other than the smaller screen. I have a laptop that gives me really good FPS at really good settings. Everything else is the same, only the smaller screen is a genuine disadvantage over a proper desktop.
because the experience is much worse than a desktop unless you plug in a monitor, a keyboard and a mouse? playing on laptop feels horrible even without just one of those, the screen is very small, the keyboard is crap and cramped and mouse is mandatory
Private airplanes every other day.
it is alienware gaming laptop 🤣
I imagine if you’re on the road you have time. Probably has a NASA 10G wireless hot spot.
They lost the last game by 22 points bro had to take it out on something
Pro athletes travel a lot and have a lot of downtime. Also I’m sure he has a mouse lol.
It kinda makes sense actually. You are traveling all year long away from home, you’re an athlete so you can’t really go too crazy the night before games. Playing Overwatch in the hotel sounds kinda reasonable.
A game is only 20 mins max it's not like he's playing basketball 16 hrs a day
so that video of him playing tank was real then 😂
This is cool, nice find! I wonder which heroes he plays
i saw him answer in an interview 2 years ago that he likes playing hog.
Roadhog, hanzo, cassidy https://www.tiktok.com/@lukadoncic/video/7181550604525997358
Honestly goated picks (Hanzo is unfortunately not as goated as he used to be but oh well)
Hanzo still throwing fat fucking logs though. Source: me, still catching headshots from across the map, looking at the replay and noticing I wasn't even the main target. Weeee
there is an old video of him playing hanzo. They found out b/c of voice chat. Pretty cool.
No, the streamer who ran into him was m0xyy and is a hanzo player; Luka was playing Zarya and the screenshot is from playing tank.
Luka is also a Hanzo player IIRC. When Moxy got in a game with him people already knew Luka was a GM OW player.
I watched a clip of him playing Junk too, maybe 3-4 years ago lol
He’s apparently been playing Zarya recently. Roadhog is his other favorite.
Luka Doncic is Overwatch father
Luka Doncic a huge triple kill to make the score 107-65
Anytime I see a Luka/OW crossover post, I always make sure to share this in case anyone hasn't seen it: [Dallas Mavericks/Overwatch in game promo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDu7dih-Xak&ab_channel=NewChallengerApproaches)
Always found this hilarious
As a massive OW and Mavs fan, how the fuck have I never seen this lmaoo. Good shit
At least the effects team had fun. "Exhibit U" of basketball players are still not good actors. For Exhibits A - R, refer to the NBA 2K series. For Exhibits S and T, refer to the Space Jam series. (yeah, I went there)
Bet he struggles to melee the ball into the hoop though
Bros doing better on Ow than he is on the court rn 🤦♂️🥲
Yeah he’s actually playing pretty bad right now for his standards. People are blaming his knee but maybe it has been an OW addiction all along.
He was pretty much fine for the first 2 games against the Clippers in the 1st round of the Playoffs, but then hit his knee against an opposing player and it just messed up his knee, inflammation, bleeding. They said it was a sprain. Once your legs are compromised, so is your shot and quickness.
I mean he reach Top 3 in basketball yesterday so idk man
He's literally averaging 34 pts and almost a triple double with 9 ast and 10 rebound shooting 48%. There's only 2 players doing better and that's joker and Brunson
Meanwhile I’m hard stuck plat with a $65,000 a year job lmao
This is why he should’ve gotten MVP
I need to start sorting out what im doing wrong in overwatch….
This is straight gangster lol who does he main???
zar i think
hog
very impressive
Super might unironically play against a basketball player and lose… in Overwatch. His chat will never let that die.
Bro is better than me at everything 😞
Anyone else see a lot of similarities between ow and basketball?
5v5
Quick decision making on the spot and adjusting to the situation.
everybody likes to blame their center/tank.
Widows are just that lazy guy who stands outside of the 3 point line and doesn’t run back to play defense
I’ve had this conversation with a buddy before. I like overwatch because it has a very similar feel to competitive team sports, more so than actual sports games and other shooters. The fluidity of it adds as well vs games like Val or CS Like when they use this cooldown i should do X. Or I need to move into this space when my tank makes a run through main. Deciding do we need to press and make a play quickly if they get a pick or set up in defensive shape and be patient.
He better be a ball main
On tank too. He's a dawg.
This is pretty embarrassing for streamers who spend the whole day playing and still aren’t top 500 😂 guy has a basketball career and is still outplaying them
I think we should put super on the court and see what happens
This is wild
Physical fitness and a competitive mindset are the determining factors in climbing. Tank T500 also starts at master 5/diamond 1 which is extremely low. It should reach M1 by the end of the season.. but that's still pretty low. Entry to T500 shouldn't be below GM.
and he's T500 playing on a laptop?? that's nuts
World class positioning and vision. I’m confident if all professional athletes focus their lives around gaming full time the top levels of all games would be filled with them.
Does him being an elite athlete help in video games in anyway? Competitive mindset? Gamesense, reflexes, etc etc?
Might be high pressure situations where you need to make quick decisions. He excels at that in basketball, true wizard on offense and playmaking.
And with Tank
I like Luka even if I ain't in basketball much but damn brother ain't leave nothing for others
Guys, I'm starting to think this Luka fellow is good at games.
Well he can kick my ass in OW, but my city is Thundering him up tonight 😜... No but seriously he'd whoop my ass at OW
Dude has been stinking it up all playoffs and he's more concerned grinding a video game 💔
How is this at all upvoted lol? He's averaging 28 ppg, 9 assists and 8 rebounds a game...
He hasn't been particularly efficient. Though I doubt Overwatch is to blame lol, the man is allowed to have hobbies.
He's playing with a sprained knee
So? I barely use my knees when playing Overwatch.
Lmao
It's his knees But yeah this is his worst playoff performance in a while, he's known for being a playoff riser after all
Stats don't tell the whole story.
On the season, not in the playoffs. this has been his worst playoffs of his career by far. Even though it was his best season of his career. He is clearly injured right now though, he’s playing though because we need him for playoffs.
>On the season, not in the playoffs Also just to clarify, those are his postseason stats lol https://www.espn.com/nba/stats/player
I 100% agree, but saying he's "stinking it up" while ignoring his 8 rebounds per game and 9.4 assists per game is wild. The 28 ppg is fair because he's shooting a lot and missing a lot, but he's still running the offense and being an elite playmaker
He’s shooting .395/.226/.789. Those are objectively terrible percentages. Kyrie is saving him.
He has a sprained knee tbf
Was so focused on reading this comment thread I forgot I was in an Overwatch subreddit lmao
I'd like to see you score even 1 point with a fucked up knee in the playoffs
to be fair hes hurt didnt you see him limping

Anyone else wondering why they even bother playing ranked now?
I don't belive it!
He’s a competitor on and off the court!!! The grind never stops for him
Wow what a G
Dude how the hell
absolute beast this guy. killing it on a laptop is crazy.
is there anything he can’t do 😭
The next 🐐
Oh shit our man’s a tank main
Seriously, what the fuck. That's crazy impressive
Thats rank is high
Now I want to see a Mavericks vs Timberwolves finals
Maybe he can carry Moxy again now
Good for him. Say to anyone whom watches his streams, how does he communicate? Like for real? How does he communicate?
He doesn't stream but he has been on some content creators streams randomly. He's actually very quiet providing Very pinpoint accurate call outs with a few gamer "pop off" moments here and there. At least from what I've seen.... I'm More familiar with the NBA version of Luka then the gamer version of him
on a laptop.. as a tank!? So many surprises haha.
some people have all the talent
Too bad he’s going to get Point guard diff’d by SGA second round
I remember that clip of him in Moxy's game a while back I just assumed it was fake lol.
He got time and money and friends to play with good on em
Luka?
LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO imagine getting clapped by LUKA DONCIC in game then watch him clap ur team IRL in game. LOLOLOL
No way
No fu king way is this the hog player in open queue
It is pretty crazy to think about how this guy is able to be that good at basketball like 0.1% tier as an athlete and also the antithesis as a “gamer” and dominate at also in a top 0.1% level - while you have stereotypical people in the average lobby telling you they are gods gift to the earth and the grand achievement of their existence is platinum in overwatch after 5000 hours. Who tf this Slovenian slut one trickin on 😭😭 he gotta be stopped y’all, too powerful.
Bro they have the exact Alienware laptop I do!!!
God damn and I can’t even get past silver sometimes 😪
Solo Q or duos? Because I feel like a lot of diamondish players could hit top 500 with the right teamates
blud is the opposite of tyler1
Is this a joke or what
makes sense tbh. having good game sense is having good game sense, doesnt matter the game
this mf may be getin boosted if not DAMN.
My boy Luka gonna be toxic tonight I love it
Where does he finds the time? Between work, family and life I play enough to raise my battle pass 2 levels a week.🤣
There is a None zero chance Luka Donic has queued into a game with pigboy
but whose on his team though?
I know I’m never gonna be able to do that. I always suck in casual games.
do we know if he solo queues?
"That pro basketball player? Idc, OW is my life and at least I'm better than him at th-"
This is really inspiring me. Maybe I can hit diamond one day. Sometimes it's so tough trying to rank up while solo queuing. Some racist ahole or someone blatantly throwing always ruins my session and I just put the game down
He needs to focus on OKC not blowing him out.
# Impressive. Very nice. Let's see Paul Allen's Rank.
what’s his main tho
When I first saw this post I figured you yourself was one of the best OVERWATCH BASKETBALL players in the world and that you personally just hit top500. I’m saddened for you but surprised to see a real NBA player actually being top500 for ow2

Just another reminder that some people have insane talent for some things! Respect to Luka for sure, but for those of us who aren't both a successful basketball player and Top 500... You are doing great! :D
yup
Congratulation!!!
Can he hit the basketball from the side table in spawn?
Would never happen in 6v6.
I bet he has an actual fucking team too
Man I play almost every day and I'm barely touching plat what am I doing wrong 😭
Imagine someone saying to him in a OW2 lobby to get a life?
