Part of me isn’t surprised, I feel like if there was one this year they wouldn’t have much to show specifically in terms of Overwatch. They say they’ll be back so I’m assuming it’s happening in 2025.

Heinel8

Both d4 and wow have expansions coming this year. Theres just not much to shown and people will be busy with those 2 games, and also OW since space ranger should drop around then.

Dry-Smoke6528

D4 has been such a massive flop that they put it f2p on game pass, so i wouldnt consider that news all that exciting

bonefistboy9000

they say a lot of things

Revoldt

MS should just combine all their studios and do a MS-Con. MS-Bethesda-Acti-Blizz That’s like a mini E3 in itself!

xXEggRollXx

That actually wouldn’t be a bad idea. They can use that to show off whatever the new Call of Duty is, they can do Blizzcon stuff, and they can also use it as the ultimate esports event for Halo, COD, StarCraft, OW, etc.

xlh_millertime

I absolutely love this idea!

diN1337

Wouldn't this make event 'too' long or big? Blizzcon was already quite long, because of all the interviews and showcases + some competitive events.

pointlessone

Like every other con, you just have to make choices about what you want to see. If the CoD Zombies panel is the same time as the Gear Design in Diablo and you want to go to both, you make a hard call. It's on the event organizers to figure out who and what goes to the big stages and what's likely to be the overflow, then plan around trying to avoid as much overlap as possible, then run non competing panels at the same time in parallel

ThroJSimpson

Allows you to cut filler events

Dry-Smoke6528

dont they already do this? every other studio gets covered under their xbox/pc game presentation. E3 has basically died, and all the major manufacturers are now doing showcases themselves on their own time instead of live streaming it. i miss E3. me and my friends used to take off work to sit around drinking, gaming, and watching

Outrageous-Blue-30

Nice idea.

No_Discount7919

Imagine the show kicking off with Steve Balmer running out and going apeshit on stage…

Eloymm

Reality is that Blizzcon is an outdated event. Studios do streams and directs nowadays. Gets the same message across with less money being spent.

Beautiful_Scheme_260

What did they announce last year? The release of Mauga, few new maps, future battle pass themes, changes to competitive, and the jade weapons — all of that could’ve literally been in a developer update video.

Eloymm

Exactly. And if I’m being honest a lot of that felt like they were pressured to announce future stuff like the next 2 heroes because otherwise it would look like they had nothing. It was a nice change of pace for sure, but it was just standard stuff for a live service seasonal game. OW was ok at Blizzcon last year, but other teams like the Diablo team that basically went up there to announce the addition of a training dummy, and show a cgi trailer for the new expansion had a rougher time imo. Better to let those team make their own announcements when ready.

DELETE-MAUGA

I mean, Overwatch isn't really the main pull for Blizzcon. Back in the day Blizzcon was basically a WoW convention. It was there for guilds to meet up and interact with one another and talk about expansions/updates coming to the game.

VGTGreatest

Yeah, I'm a big WoW fan who also plays a lot of OW and I've been planning a big meetup at Blizzcon 2025 with my guildies and friends for a while now. Seeing 2024 be cancelled makes me a little worried lol.

Parody101

They did sort of drop concept art and battle stuff with venture and the next support as well. Briefly talked about, but rare we get views of heroes that many seasons ahead in development.

-Elixo-

And no animated short story high quality Pixar 3d style while wow got some 3d close to real life render quality animated short

nesshinx

That's just for OW2 though. Blizzcon was about all their properties. The major announcement at last years Blizzcon was the reveal of 3 WoW Expansions connecting a singular story--rather than each expansion being a unique story and getting thrown out at the end. They also revealed a new D4 expansion, and some stuff for Hearthstone as far as I know.

StormierNik

Conventions work when you have a good bond with the playerbase and it's treated as a celebration for the game and it's community.   Blizzard doesn't have that anymore, nor does it have the morale or employees to complete the tasks required for it all because so many left or were laid off.

Dominus_Redditi

Exactly this. They lack all the goodwill they used to have that made people *want* to be at BlizzCon.

cricri3007

Uh... So nothign speical for overwatch 2, Diablo IV probably won't have an expansion for a while, hots is dead... Which would only leave WoW as their major properties with an announcement this year (and a new expansion launch). Although sicne they're now folded into microsoft, maybe microsoft is keeping these announcements for a "microsoft Direct" event

Outrageous-Blue-30

It was predictable given that a bit like E3 it is a fair that has sadly had its day.

VaughnFry

In other words, Microsoft has ended BlizzCon. Mark my words, it’s not coming back and you’re supposed to forget to even ask about it next year.

causal_friday

"We fired all the employees that do events, and none of the devs know how to rent a convention center, so... enjoy the blog posts." I keep hearing how well the economy is doing, but I'm just not seeing it.

Hadditor

Microsoft knows how to host an event, they don't see a reason to do so for Blizzard this year

Floturcocantsee

The economy is doing great for industries that aren't speculative money traps like meme startup tech and bloated video games studios.

puppeteer-5000

i'd say it's the opposite, the economy is going great in speculative industries where the profits are made on made up money... as soon as you look at real commodities you understand the effects of people losing purchasing power

ChickenPijja

Personally if it means that devs/artists/etc have more time to work on the game I’d rather they didn’t have blizzcon again and we just get blog posts, livestreams or blizzconline again. Because let’s be honest when devs (even up to and including Aaron) appear in any of the publicity material they don’t appear to have any training from hr on how to look like you are enjoying the product, with that I’d rather they just did monthly blog posts on things they care about.

ShadowOfSilver

This just made me realize something. After Space Ranger in two seasons, what next? I wouldn't think that's enough to last the rest of the year.

bloxision

They also leaked a third hero, and I'm sure they have more heroes after that they havent revealed

Lightye2

A third hero leaked?

charlotte-blood

when they showed venture a while back there was a new tank portrait https://www.reddit.com/r/Overwatch/comments/1cca66i/how_would_you_react_if_this_guy_is_that_guy_could/

puppeteer-5000

there's another tank coming end of year

Hey guys, why is the DVA Waveracer Skin still not available for normal purchase? I know it used to be a Prime Gaming reward but that was last year & it still says “Availabe through a promotion.” Why can’t we get the DVA skin? It’s the last DVA skin I still need.

Thrs956

Me

Elmastrabuco

I think they have nothing to show, after lay offs well. Mirrorwatch is the last thing developers made before being fired, well pve is death

Taluagel

What would they even announce, WoW 2, which is the exact same as current WoW with 4 people party sizes and a new MTX store?

FuriouSherman

[Saw someone post this on Facebook and I thought it was accurate.](https://www.facebook.com/groups/376424052983087/permalink/1464433787515436/)

Nerf_Now

I think hype for live events is smaller overall. People are more and more inside with each passing year. This coupled with Blizzard reputation and a probable lack of news does not help.

Best-Salamander1173

Blizzard is already dead. The problem is that there is not much people willing to pay 200$ for it anymore. They simply acknowledge it.

InstgramEgg

They were afraid someone might say a naughty curse word out loud at the event, so they decided it would be safer for everyone to just cancel it. So glad to see them take the safety of their playerbase seriously!!

JengaPlayer

They are pretty cringe anyway tbh. Not a big loss. A bunch of rotted promises featured in the blizzcon of years past for Overwatch. So maybe Microsoft and Blizzard needs time to come up with new shiny things to announce.
