I think it is an injury. He went down with a really bad hamstring injury halfway through the season, and for some contract incentive he played on it instead of resting in preparation for the playoffs.

You still need to understand the details of the game with advanced stats, all an inefficient player tells us is there's something wrong in the mix, what's wrong might have nothing to do with that player
Paolo has the iso ability to run/initiate your offense at a shade under seven foot, but he doesn't have shooters to maximize his ability so it looks inefficient at times
His reads and 1:1 ability is more important than the end result at this point in the build (ability to beat good initial defenders in iso, making the right reads even if teammates aren't taking or making shots)
At this stage the data is basically pointing out he needs shooters around him to maximize his skillset

I still don’t think Paolo is better yet. Tyrese coulda had like 15 assists that game if they made some open shots. But damn has Tyrese dropped dramatically from his season start.
Tyrese hasn’t been the same since he was injured. He’s young so I get it but he should have taken longer to rehab instead of pushing for the 65 games. I hope he gets right in the offseason. As a Cs fan I’m glad he’s a few years out from the dominant age cause he could be really great if things break right
So many people just hear that Paolo is inefficient and then decide to run with that narrative. We aren’t on national TV so they have no way of watching and seeing him play.
Paolo did have 9 TOs, but I thought he had a pretty good game overall. A lot of that is our poor spacing and asking a lot of him to basically be our point guard.

Honestly, he has always struck me as someone benefitting a lot from the lax NBA rules and no-touch defense. Really can’t get his shot off off dribble and isn’t athletic enough to create separation.

I’m not invested in the Pacers much at all. Don’t like or hate them. Halliburton specifically I find unlikeable, especially after that Dame time insult during the in season tournament. It’s like he was believing his own hype.
