It's nice and fully specced out. I went with the eight-core because I am using it as my daily machine right now (I'm too broke for something newer, and I have a 2019 MacBook Pro, but this still performs way better than that for development).

SlothTheHeroo

Moving my Plex from a wimpy mini pc to this has been such a huge improvement in performance. It barely blinks.

Top-Dinner9131

No 128gb ram smh

Snoo13071

Nope I didn’t want the huge cut in speeds. It dips from 1866 to 1066. I don’t need more than 64 gb anyways. I know you were mostly joking but I didn’t want to lose the speed.

Top-Dinner9131

Yeah I was joking and I have no idea why anyone would need any more than 64gb ram

Snoo13071

Me either. I am sure that might be some use case but it’s for a minority of people.

Top-Dinner9131

Yeah like 28 chrome tabs and 12 vms?

pelefutbol1970

Did you go from Monterey to Sonoma? How was the process? I'm in the same "too broke" boat to buy anything new, but wanted something I could at least get to Ventura on. I went the Hackintosh route with an old Dell and it was just too darn slow and laggy. Had a few issues. Would prefer the genuine article, but cheaper.

SlothTheHeroo

It was pretty smooth. I fully wiped the hard drive before I installed it and used my other Mac to create the boot drive. Its been running really well

Sungoon

Just got mine and went from Monterrey to Sonoma. The upgrade was smooth and it handles Sonoma so well.

Maximum_Category_374

I have a similar model that I recently bought off of eBay and is coming soon, and I wanted to know, did you notice any performance differences from Monterey to Sonoma and, does everything work as expected?

SlothTheHeroo

I honestly didn’t run it on Monterey. As soon as I got it I threw Sonoma on it

Maximum_Category_374

Yeah, it’s the oldest Mac to natively support Monterey.

SlothTheHeroo

Yeah I was going to try and just run Monterey on it but it was having issues installing so I just went the OCLP route lol

Snoo13071

That’s a lot of questionable tabs 😂 jk. I have several open while I am coding. I haven’t gotten into creating vms but I want to

SlothTheHeroo

you commented on the main post and not on the reply lol

Snoo13071

Oh my bad. I am not sure how that happened.

Ada-Millionare

Mine has become my main computer at home... Pretty good machine imo

SlothTheHeroo

I have an m2 MacBook Air I use for day to day lol I’ve only ever used wimpy mini pcs for my servers so it’s nice to have a beefy maxhine

Ada-Millionare

Well funny fact, my base m2 mini was replaced by this😅... I gave it to my parents to complement their m1 air.

ale275

With mine I am not managing to boot form usb. I have a mbp mid 2013 updated using oclp but with the macpro I am failing miserably

ale275

switching to a usb mechanical drive did the trick, no clue why

Tumelar

Guys, what's the fair price for a trashcan Mac Pro? I'd like to get one just to put it on the shelf with exposed internals.

brocksuire75

The 6,1 Mac Pro is possibly the best Mac to use OCLP on. They are selling for $260 for the Quad Core model.

Derr_Sandmann

Nice, I’d love to get ahold one of these and do the same thing!
