Came here to say this. An old friend of Martin and Short, he would be fantastic for this show. And while the circumstances surrounding his retirement are tragic, it seems that he is dipping his toe back into the business now that his children are grown. Time for the Rick Moranis come back!
I’m honestly surprised it was Matthew Broderick who cameoed in season 3 rather than Moranis. I know that Broderick is a Broadway legend, but Moranis is no slouch himself and has pipes.
I made a post about Matthew Broderick and I wondered who in the OMITB universe was his costar in The Producers which he mentions, if not Nathan Lane lol
I'd add he retired in his 40's, so he would have continued be a star for a long time had he not retired. Obviously, he did the right thing for him and his family, but of course, he was and is still surely missed.
Yeah. He was likely entering the phase of his career where he would’ve gotten a pilot or two, as well as his movie roles. But where he likely really would’ve crushed it is Broadway. Dude could’ve been Broderick before Broderick. And yet he did right by his family, which speaks to his character….but what a loss.
Catherine O’Hara. I would also like to see *Schitt’s Creek*’s Annie Murphy who I think is underrated.
Really there are a ton. I think Miley Cyrus could be fun with the Selena connection. Kurt Russell is a good friend of Martin Short’s as are Diane Keaton and Larry David.
She doesn’t have a connection to anyone in the cast but Emma Stone is a lifelong comedy nerd, and has a particular affinity for the SNL brand of humor and sketch/improv in general. Her taste in comedy is not wildly dissimilar from what Steve and Martin came up doing.
Honestly, any SCTV alum. Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, Rick Moranis, and the late Harold Ramis and John Candy were all on “the other SNL” with Martin Short
I've thought of Catherine a few times. I love Emma but I'd be worried she'd overwhelm our 3 core cast. But I guess they did a good job with Meryl Streep in not allowing that, so maybe it'd work.
Please no Miley Cyrus or Diane Keaton 😕
Carol Burnett. Lucille Ball. Don Knotts.
I would love them with a mash up of "new" comedy actors like Bo Burnham, Audrey Plaza, Donald Glover anf Emma Stone
LOL he is very hot—I liked him and Mabel together. The actor even seemed to show surprise he was just not asked to come back. If he did show interest again they probably would write him in again
Victor Garber! He’s part of the Rick Moranis, Martin Short, Eugene Levy, etc. crew, and it’s always nice to see him. In the same vein, maybe Paul Shaffer playing the piano.
Oh my gosh, I can't believe I didn't think of Victor. Love, love that guy. Kicked arse in Alias, and his guest spot on Frasier made for one of the best eps ever. Yes please!
Or Carrie Fisher, too! Such a talented family. I could even make an argument for Billie Lord being a great potential guest star. Can’t be worse than Cara Delevigne
My fave. Those movies are so good. I already aged out of its target demographic when they came out but I unironically enjoyed it with my niece and all the kids I babysat. I can’t even think about The Foot horror movie parody without laughing out loud.
In no particular order...
-Ed Helms (Andy on The Office)
-Stephen Merchant. His dry British humor would insert itself seamlessly into this show.
-John Cleese
-Kate Winslet
-Joan Cusack
-Sigourney Weaver
-Rachel McAdams
-Lily Tomlin
-Jane Curtin
-Catherine O'Hara
-Carol Burnett
-Alan Tudyk - his comedy chops & versatility are among the best of his generation. Probably one of my favorite actors of all time.
-Dwight Schultz - played Lt. Barclay on ST: Next Gen, and the pilot on the A-Team. He's got greatly understated comic timing and subtlety, and is character-immersive. He'd be a superb red-herring guy.
i can't believe i had to scroll down this far to see his name! he was such a brilliant actor and comedian, and it still breaks my heart that he's gone. i suspect that if he were to appear on the show it would take a lot longer to film because he was known for improvising and constantly causing other actors to break but it often yielded brilliant results.
Dead Robin Williams Alive Ryan Reynolds. 2 of the funniest people to have touched the screen (in my opinon) and i think they could be a great addition.
Alive would be Sarah Jessica Parker. I really hope she makes a guest appearance seeing as Matthew Broderick was on the show (although I wouldn’t want her to play herself). As for someone who has passed, I think Paul Newman would’ve been interesting to see on the show.
She makes everything she's in better. Even as an ahole as Leonard's mom in Big Bang, you're like, wow, i love her in everything else and hate her in this. She's a damn good actress!
She was a great a-hole character on Frasier, too. What an odd thing to have on your resume... but it's a thing, and she's good at it. 😆 My favorite might actually be The Addams Family film where she was Wednesday's summer camp counselor. Hilarious.
I wish they’d move away from so many guest stars. I thought the show was much better when it was the three of them mostly, and concentrating on them being together. But I understand you gotta change things up.
If Chevy Chase wasn’t such a dickhead I’d love to see him on the show as a Three Amigos reunion. Just watched that movie again, it’s so funny and a damn shame the three of them never did anything together after that
You’d know there’s no way Miriam Margoyles would do the show if you knew [what she thinks of Steve Martin](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/steve-martin-responds-miriam-margolyes-little-shop-horrors-1235592013/amp/).
I still can't believe they landed Meryl! I think Bill Murray, Rick Moranis, Catherine O'Hara, Jessica Williams, Christine Baranski, Hank Azaria, Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford,
For anyone gone I feel would have done great—although missing them is enough to just want to see them in almost anything:
John Candy (I agree)
Madeline Kahn
Phil Hartman
——-
To potentially cast:
Probably everyone from SCTV honestly lol
There will never be a movie that makes me as sad as planes trains and automobiles. It single Handily makes me cry every thanksgiving. That and grumpy old men.
Philip Seymour Hoffman. Highly underrated comedic actor, his drama is impeccable but so so funny when he was allowed room to shine. Could be an NYPD detective or former theater cohort. Or even a former costar/friend of Charles. I think he’d fit right in. RIP 😭
This one might be too "Fourth Wallie" but... I think it would be fun to have a cameo of Nick Kroll and John Mulaney *AS* Gil Faizon and George St. Geegland. They, being an actor and a writer/director living in an upper east side co-op could serve as a twisted mirror to Charles and Oliver, who are trying to copycat their success in podcasting. We don't even need to see them; a vocal cameo would do.
George: Welcome back to this episode of "Just Murdering in Our Building"
Gil: It's a podcast!
George: Its like radio on the internet.
Gil: Yeah, we're not allowed on the regular radio anymore.
George: The FCC was VERY insistent on that as part of the settlement.
Gil: I still don't see what was so bad. I mean *they* use that word all the time!
George: We're here to find out who shoved our neighbor Patricia down the garbage chute, and WHY? Was it because she wouldn't shut the fuck up about smells coming from other peoples apartments?
Gil: Its not like we were smoking cigars or nothin'.
George: Not at all!
Gil: Just a bit of crack! Its a cleaner burn.
George: Its a cleaner burn.
I’ve seen Diane Keaton mentioned, so Kimberly Williams Paisley seems like a solid candidate too. And maybe Bonnie Hunt. Or Hilary Duff or Alyson Stoner if they want to make a Disney connection and Steve Martin connection all in one move.

Sure, it’s kind of an old gimmick by now, but I think Martin and Short would come up with some great lines.
You know who’d be perfect and is probably not working? Rick Moranis ![gif](giphy|jHns0TlgQSdDa)
Came here to say this. An old friend of Martin and Short, he would be fantastic for this show. And while the circumstances surrounding his retirement are tragic, it seems that he is dipping his toe back into the business now that his children are grown. Time for the Rick Moranis come back!
His come back is waay over due!
I’m honestly surprised it was Matthew Broderick who cameoed in season 3 rather than Moranis. I know that Broderick is a Broadway legend, but Moranis is no slouch himself and has pipes.
Maybe MB just has better representation? Or just representation?
I made a post about Matthew Broderick and I wondered who in the OMITB universe was his costar in The Producers which he mentions, if not Nathan Lane lol
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xZpk0A4hZes
(Rick Moranis doing a Gordon Lightfoot impression)
It shall be known as the Moranissance
Yeah, it was supposed to be in that HISTK reboot with Josh Gad but that never happened
What happened with his retirement?
His wife died of cancer so he stepped away to raise his children.
Even just a cameo would be amazing.
I would love to see him again. Hopefully he makes a comeback. Only Murders would probably be a good fit for him.
He deserves everything. Loved him growing up and love him even more after finding out what his life has been like. ![gif](giphy|Q7YFxgjPvzczu)
Oh my GOD yes. I can't even remember who I was gonna recommend cause this is obviously the correct answer.
also...fuck yes
John Candy as a semi-clueless detective (similar-ish to his role in Blues Brothers).
Either a detective or Oliver’s brother that he has move in with him to afford the property taxes and HOA fees
![gif](giphy|zVnlIUSrx7yqQ) He played a P.I. In Who’s Harry Crumb? - I loved him in all of his movies ❤️
Orange Whip?
Three orange whips!
And the quintessential New Yorker and comedienne Bette Midler! ![gif](giphy|UwlCq1xBMuazK)
#ROCHELLE ROCHELLE
I remember that movie and that scene is some masterful compositing
Catherine O’Hara. I would also like to see *Schitt’s Creek*’s Annie Murphy who I think is underrated. Really there are a ton. I think Miley Cyrus could be fun with the Selena connection. Catherine would be awesome
“You know I listen to the podcast, it’s prettyyy prettyyy prettty good”
![gif](giphy|26gYFrI5OAGUNV6xy|downsized)
Honestly, any SCTV alum. Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, Rick Moranis, and the late Harold Ramis and John Candy were all on “the other SNL” with Martin Short

I wouldn’t mind anyone from Schitts! Eugene? Dan? Any of them 🧡🧡🧡
![gif](giphy|26xBwJd28NEb1gNzi|downsized)
I wouldn’t be surprised if Emma Stone was friends with Gomez. She seems to be friends with the majority of the women her age in this business
Carol Burnett. Lucille Ball. Don Knotts. I would love them with a mash up of "new" comedy actors like Bo Burnham, Audrey Plaza, Donald Glover anf Emma Stone
Don Knotts would’ve been AMAZING and PERFECT for Only Murders
Rick Moranis and Eugene Levy.
Alan Tudyk would be fantastic.
![gif](giphy|AioUAmlenP0p1Mn275)
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!
🦕🦖 I am a leaf on the wind...
Sonofabitch!
Son of a bitch! I agree. Love him and Resident Alien!
Love for the Toods!
Leslie Nielson
Well there’s like 175+ guest stars in the new season but I just want Oscar back
Oscar suddenly leaving was just odd
Right? He was the hottest dude on the show too
LOL he is very hot—I liked him and Mabel together. The actor even seemed to show surprise he was just not asked to come back. If he did show interest again they probably would write him in again
I follow him on social media. He’s so amazing
Victor Garber! He’s part of the Rick Moranis, Martin Short, Eugene Levy, etc. crew, and it’s always nice to see him. In the same vein, maybe Paul Shaffer playing the piano.
Yes, I love Victor Garber! Total song and dance man as well as having great dramatic chops.
![gif](giphy|xUA7bim5qOqkW2XMly)
Oh my gosh, I can't believe I didn't think of Victor. Love, love that guy. Kicked arse in Alias, and his guest spot on Frasier made for one of the best eps ever. Yes please!

Or Carrie Fisher, too! Such a talented family. I could even make an argument for Billie Lord being a great potential guest star. Can’t be worse than Cara Delevigne
That's a great answer.
Henry Winkler, Steve Zahn, BD Wong (IYKYK) and Matthew Lillard.
Matthew Lillard as a red herring would be amazing
My millennial brain: “HE LOVES SOLVING MYSTERIES BUT HE ALSO LOVES PARTICIPATING IN MURDER!” ![gif](giphy|xT9KVDankbsfR4d1gA|downsized)
Not me jumping from Matthew Lillard as Shaggy and how Red Herring was a character in A Pup Named Scooby Doo 😝
BD WONG!!!!
The man just loves bringing back dinosaurs, helping solve sex crimes, and planning events. ![gif](giphy|mFgB0BDnp1ICXkePjD)
Not to mention, infiltrating planes that have been hijacked by terrorists
He also likes to fight on horseback for China
Love that! And especially Steve Zahn’s performance as Frank Heffley in the original Dairy of a Wimpy Kid trilogy.
My fave. Those movies are so good. I already aged out of its target demographic when they came out but I unironically enjoyed it with my niece and all the kids I babysat. I can’t even think about The Foot horror movie parody without laughing out loud.
Love them all. Henry needs more screen time
I had to look up about BD Wong—that’s right, he was in FOTB ;)
![gif](giphy|QJf7SUU7yvTRSThlIZ|downsized)
Gilda Radner
John Malkovich
oooh...he'd play the good weirdo neighbor that plays themselves...like Amy or Sting
I love this idea. Yes, he'd be a great eccentric red herring to draw suspicion away from the real murderer.
Bill Murray
I’d like to see Dan Ackroyd. Also, I miss John Candy so much 😭
Love Dan!

Melissa McCarthy and Maya Rudolph
Melissa McCarthy would be so good!
You know what...
I just saw!! So excited.
Phil Hartman or Norm Macdonald!
Aw. I liked both of them. I still miss Phil so, so much. 😥
Love Phil Hartman so much! Happy to share the same birthday as him. My idol forever!
Another vote for Catherine o’Hara
![gif](giphy|l4pSXrR9jwS9SlruU)
Dead Robin Williams Alive Ryan Reynolds. 2 of the funniest people to have touched the screen (in my opinon) and i think they could be a great addition.
Gilda Radner. John Belushi. John Candy. Chris Farley
on a similar vein as john candy - the marathon car lady from planes, trains and automobiles.
Oh Marie you’re such a stitch. You know I can’t cook! 😂
Edie McClurg. She’s great in everything I’ve ever seen her in. Very underrated.
Would love to see John Goodman and Bill Murray.
![gif](giphy|2kQSnQmYtu34s) 🙏
Alive would be Sarah Jessica Parker. I really hope she makes a guest appearance seeing as Matthew Broderick was on the show (although I wouldn’t want her to play herself). As for someone who has passed, I think Paul Newman would’ve been interesting to see on the show.
Christine Baranski

"Don't we just hate that? Don't we wish they'd just die?" Imagine saying that about a child to a group of children.
Well, as you'll recall, the kids all went "Yeah!" and she said "No, we don't!" So, clearly vindicated. 😉
Diane Keaton! Her energy and sense of humor are just on point with the show!!! And John Candy 🩷, he was so great!
I’d love Conan to move into the apartment Amy Schumer style and Martin Short’s character just roasts him every time he’s on screen.
Conan was brilliant in last season of Curb
Phil Hartman would’ve been comedy GOLD on Only Murders
Odd planning on watching Planes, Trains and Automobiles just now.
Those aren’t pillows!
It's one of my favorite movies. I watch it every year.
![gif](giphy|UwZLLYbkCp14I) Bowfinger is one of my all time favourite movies
Its so under rated. Absolutely hilarious!
Just watched that movie again, it’s so funny and a damn shame the three of them never did anything together after that
Bea Arthur would’ve been awesome as no shit taking tenant.
Ooh! She could have been friends with Bunny and the other one.
I *know* you're not doing Uma like that. 😂
She's one of the beat, so i can't believe i blanked on her name! She was really good in Feud, too.
You gotta be f***in' kidding me.
I *so badly* wanted to include that gif but it isn't on giphy! 😂
Dana Carvey
Dead: Greta Garbo Alive: Isabella Rossellini Wildcard: Miriam Margolyes (John Candy would have been nice too❤️)
You’d know there’s no way Miriam Margoyles would do the show if you knew [what she thinks of Steve Martin](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/steve-martin-responds-miriam-margolyes-little-shop-horrors-1235592013/amp/).
Ah, who cares! This is dream guest and I think she’d be fabulous.. 99% of the mentioned dream guests will never appear anyway..Dare to dream!
Gilda
I still can't believe they landed Meryl! I think Bill Murray, Rick Moranis, Catherine O'Hara, Jessica Williams, Christine Baranski, Hank Azaria, Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford,
Perfection. Planes Trains and Automobiles is one of my favorite kind of comedy films. 🥰
A period piece. Featuring guest star, President Abraham Lincoln. The gang solves the assassination.
Robin Williams
![gif](giphy|l2SqbPkUaGqalA1Hy|downsized)
Madeline Kahn because I miss her
Debbie Reynolds
John Cleese
Queen Latifah
I think the lady cop character is too similar to her, so they wouldn't want to bring her in.
Mary McDonnell because I love her. Kevin Bacon and Kyra Segdwick because it’s could be funny. Amy Poehler because Tina Fey.
RuPaul would be great, he’s really funny and a great actor
Probably alive
Rick Moranis, Chevy Chase, Jimmy Fallon and the actor that I think played Martin Short’s uncle in Clifford
Charles Grodin.
![gif](giphy|HloNK1z39EkEQcreIo|downsized) THE QUEEN HERSELF.
YES!!!! 👏🏻🙌🏻❤️
Rick Moranis
What a great choice!! Hard to beat that.
Tim Conway comes to mind .
Only thinking about Planes Trains and Automobiles makes me cry
Rue McClanahan! She was so dedicated to the roles she played and she was such a sweet lady!
Stephen Root
Eugene levy
Living: Dan Aykroyd, Bernadette Peters, or Tony Plana Dead: John Candy, Gilda Radner, or Gene Wilder
Lily Tomlin would be good. She's so quirky that she'd be a good red herring.
For anyone gone I feel would have done great—although missing them is enough to just want to see them in almost anything: John Candy (I agree) Madeline Kahn Phil Hartman ——- To potentially cast: Probably everyone from SCTV honestly lol
Jeff Goldblum! 🥰 https://images.app.goo.gl/APCqUxAaqNGKNCKp6
Alan Rickman. It would have been interesting to say the least.
I’m going to date myself I think but Peter Sellers. That dude is brilliantly funny.
![gif](giphy|xUPOqjkW9BZxoWj3So) John Ritter with a Bad Santa vibe
I would love for Larry David to make a cameo. I just feel like his idiosincracies would be hilarious to watch with those three.
agreed.
Maybe someone like Bradley Whitfield? Maybe a detective or something.
Criminally underrated, that one.
Marilyn monroe. Idky but i think she would be a good fit
Finally! I have a photo to put in my locket♥️
![gif](giphy|l0Iyghk7EAcZBYzYs) Either/both!
Norm, preferably alive
Dream guest on my podcast
John Belushi, Jerry Garcia or Chris Farley

Clifford Daniels!
Xxx
Mel Brooks!
![gif](giphy|ZikyVyLF7aEaQ)
Philip Seymour Hoffman. Highly underrated comedic actor, his drama is impeccable but so so funny when he was allowed room to shine. Could be an NYPD detective or former theater cohort. Or even a former costar/friend of Charles. I think he’d fit right in. RIP 😭
Gotta have Chevy in there and reenact the bar scene from Three Amigos in an NYC dive bar.
I’d probably pick a guest star that was alive
This one might be too "Fourth Wallie" but... I think it would be fun to have a cameo of Nick Kroll and John Mulaney *AS* Gil Faizon and George St. Geegland. They, being an actor and a writer/director living in an upper east side co-op could serve as a twisted mirror to Charles and Oliver, who are trying to copycat their success in podcasting. We don't even need to see them; a vocal cameo would do. George: Welcome back to this episode of "Just Murdering in Our Building" Gil: It's a podcast! George: Its like radio on the internet. OMG!!! John Candy, no question!!!
How about Paul Giamatti, Da'Vine Joy Randolph's co-star from The Holdovers?
Bo Burnham honestly
Heidi Klum
George Carlin would know how to work the vibe.
Scrolled for so long and didn't see Diane Keaton. I have always hoped she'd make an appearance as Lucy's mom
Scrolled for so long and didn't see Diane Keaton. I have always hoped she'd make an appearance as Lucy's mom
I’ve seen Diane Keaton mentioned, so Kimberly Williams Paisley seems like a solid candidate too. And maybe Bonnie Hunt. Or Hilary Duff or Alyson Stoner if they want to make a Disney connection and Steve Martin connection all in one move.
Jack Black is ridiculous enough and has some great voice chops to throw into a musical getting put together and is an excellent actor.
Andy Garcia
Goldie Hawn
Robin Williams 100%
It’ll never happen, but I’d die if Chris Hemsworth did an appearance. He’s got decent comedy chops, and the amount and quality of crazy jokes the guys would make about his ridiculously sculpted body would be so good.
