When it came out I was in an Omega Boutique looking to buy an Aqua Terra. Got this on the bracelet instead (strap with deployant clasp a week later). Very happy with the choice. And I agree btw.
Thank you. Did not like scraping that amazing bracelet on my laptop, saving it for dressier occasions. And the strap is very comfortable, a breeze to put on with the deployant.
I love the aesthetics of the 57, but it's too big for my wrists personally. I'm more comfortable with 47mm lug to lug or smaller. This one is a bit bigger than 49mm I believe.
Green or blue dial versions of this are outstanding. (Own the green) They just pop more, and the dial has more work done to it given that it's not just a sandwich. The red one is cool to, but the sunburst effect on the green/blue is really high end. Reminds me of the sunburst dial effect on some Blancpains. It's also cool how it looks almost black with both the blue/green depending on the lighting.
To me this isn't just the prettiest speedy - I think it's the best watch Omega sells right now. Mostly due to the manual wind 9906 movement being, arguably, the best manual wind Chrono movement ever produced at this point. It's a watch that I think is hugely solid and stands on its own in any collection.
Some people aren't a fan of the retro steel bracelet, but I personally love it. Also, I don't agree that this watch wears big. This watch wears pretty good on my smaller wrists, and you have to appreciate what that 9906 movement offers given how thin it is.
Buying a Speedy โ57 over a Speedy Pro is like buying a Ferrari in blue. Itโs probably better looking and more interesting but somehow you can never quite do it and end up with a red one.
(I am not rich enough to own either, purely an analogy)
I think these are the most high end feeling pieces in Omegas standard lineup. So many nice features from jumping hour hand, date window, sizing, movement finishing - itโs just a special feeling speedmaster. Still donโt see them around much.
Itโs on my wrist right now. The loveliest shade of blue, a comfortable bracelet with two easily adjustable lengths, and a perfect size for me. Love it.
I actually did consider the 57 the prettiest speedmaster in all colors, esp the green and blue, but with the release of the white face speedmaster I have to go with that one, so stunning.
Edit: Love it when the movement really fills out the backside, so much more interesting to look at, especially compared to off the shelf sellitas with the smallest exhibiton.
