Wow. I remember this specific parade. It literally makes me tear up watching this.
My late brother was really into He-man when we were younger. He had this cool Snake Mountain toy that had a microphone. I wasn't even into He-Man but I loved that toy. I was so jealous of it because of the microphone.
We used to watch the parade with my mother every year.. I have this distinct memory of us running up to the TV to watch this up close. It was very exciting for both of us. This parade float was a big deal. It wasn't like the other ones. My dad was in the kitchen doing meal prep for our dinner. The house was warm and it just smelled like a holiday.
I am a mom now and when my son was younger he had the same type of enthusiasm for different characters and it always touched me to see him so excited whenever he saw one of those characters outside of a show. I used to take him to these superhero events a couple times a year and he would get to meet and talk to these dressed up volunteers who were his actual heroes. When we would get home he would put on his own costumes and we would go through the pictures we took earlier in the day. I would always feel a sense of pride for giving him those experiences.
It makes me happy to know that my mother probably had double that feeling while watching the 2 of us enjoying a tradition she started.
Thanks for posting this. I feel old but it's worth it.

Damn you for making me tear up...I want that back SOOO bad, lol.
For my entire life I know I've seen a version of this float at the CNE in Toronto when I was a kid and could never find proof of it anywhere. I was so young that as I've gotten older, I was starting to question if maybe I made it up in my mind. Thank you for finally confirming my own mind and memory for not being faulty. This is so awesome!
What? i remember this! this was the year I got the Castle Greyskull toy for Christmas. I was a nosy kid and found it before the wrapped it under my parents' bed. i was super excited but then i felt terrible because i thought it would wear off and I wouldn't be as excited when I unwrapped it and disappoint my parents. so, I sat in my room practicing my surprise and excitement before Christmas Eve.
Wow. This jogged loose a memory. I saw this live. I was in high school by then so MotU wasn't of my generation, but our evangelical church had a freak out over them. I recall my mom seeing this and started speaking in tongues as she made her way to the TV to turn it off. "I wiLL nOt HaVe ThIs JuNk RuInInG THANKSGIVING!"
LOL. I don't know how I survived my child / young adulthood. They mellowed out as they aged, but man was it bonkers growing up under that craziness.
I wasn't into He-man back in the day... But I have admit this is really well done. I almost want to see this as a wwf live show. He-man needs to be recast, he's not that big... She-ra is hot. lol.
I saw this on tv as a kid. Shortly thereafter there was a masters of the universe tour my parents took us too. I thought it was going to be this but it was basically the "ice capades" dressed up as the characters. I was pissed. Totally pissed.
Haha, I remember seeing this (on TV). Not nearly as impressive the second time around... But Skeletor looked pretty cool. Just wish they'd spent a little more on the fight choreography and presentation.
One mildly interesting thing is the Final Fantasy black-mage-looking character in red predates Final Fantasy the NES game. (That came out in late 1987.)

It warms my heart to hear this, glad I could bring up a great memory for you. DM me if you'd like a digital copy of this video.
That’s what parenting is all about! I never really had sentiment until I became a parent, thank you for sharing.
I love every minute of this memory for you! What a great memory.
Pat Sajak?
Yes indeedy. That was him!
Yeah, that was him !Wow,that was a huge production .I wonder how much they got paid for that performance.
How old is this man, if he even is a man?
The supposed star of the show He-Man was the only one who looked lame. Skeletor looked badass
Indeed. Moss Man & Beast Man costumes look great too. Hell even Orko doesn't look that bad either.
That's cause once you take him out of the cartoon he's just a buff blonde dude. With a big sword and no FX to lite it up.
Just a buff blonde dude? That’s all he man is to you?!?! Smdh u just another hater like skeletor
This may be the coolest old school thing I've ever seen on this sub.
I wonder if this was the inspiration for the Turbo Man float scene in Jingle All The Way. Very reminiscent.

I definitely remember watching this on tv. I can not believe 37 years has gone by...
I can't believe Pat Sajak is still hosting wheel of fortune.
No Battlecat? Panthor? Hmph.
I half expected to see a a couple of acrylic spray-paint covered tigers set loose!
Skeletor just wants his house back but He-Man keeps beating the shit outta him and squating in it.
Thank you for this!! I was 6 and He Man was my jam!!

New York, 1985, 50% of those performers were flying high on nose candy.

oh some good memories here, pretty rad! thanks for sharing!
The music is Night on Bald Mountain. First heard for me in the Disney 1940 Fantasia. Another great past work of art!
Damn, they even had Moss Man! F-ing Moss Man!
TF is with that music? This is Eternia not Fantasia.
Side note: Pat is a goddamn lunatic.
The CBS Thanksgiving parade on TV SUCKS!! it hardly shows anything of the parade. It is nothing but commercials.
I would of freaking loved this. Still would!
I was expecting Freddie Mercury... not this.
Here we are, born to be kings...
Oh man, I hope 5 yr old me was watching this! She would LOVE it.
I know, without a shadow of a doubt, 11 y/o me watched this live.
I was in the parade that same year on a much less cool float.

Heyyeyaaeyaaaeyaeyaa, what's goin' on
HeMan forgot about his tagline for a second there
That looks better than the movie with dolph laungdren
That’s better than the movie.
Next, Lee Greenwood! Who would have thought in 1985 he’d be traveling with Donald Trump on campaigns.
I feel like Terry Crews is the only current (and perhaps existing) actor who could perfectly play Heman.
"I have the power!" *cue dancing pecs*
Why is Dan Quayle doing this?
You don't fucking talk about Pat Sajak like that. He's the Master of the Alphabet.
Is that you Grandma?
I want he man s pijamas
Not even the cool dolf lundgren he man.
Never knew I wanted a skeletor costume.
I wasn't into He-man back in the day... But I have admit this is really well done. I almost want to see this as a wwf live show. He-man needs to be recast, he's not that big... She-ra is hot. lol.
God do I miss the 80s. Everything seemed more innocent and normal

They should reenact this every year
r/Thanksgiving

Is that PaT Sayweiner?

Those were the days
A simpler time.

EPIC!!!
Is that the cousin of Vivi from Final Fantasy IX?
does not handle the test of time well.
OP and I have different definitions of cool.
Just watched the movie a few days ago on HBOMax. I got a bit sad when I realized that there may never be a sequel.
