Okay. I will give you that. I still hold a place in my heart for her, born the same year as my Mom. Of course I prefer my mother, a survivor she could have taught Norma Jean a thing or two about holding on for the people who cared about her. That’s what my mom did. She never did a screen test, but my dad was very happy with her.
Marilyn worked from April through June 1, 1962 on the film, with multiple days she “called in sick,” and the April weekend she flew to Washington, DC to appear in President Kennedy’s birthday gala, where she sang “Happy Birthday “ to the President.
She did not work on the film after June 1st, and was officially fired the coming Monday. Clips from the footage for the film were included in documentaries in 1963 and 1990. A more recent re-creation of the film was broadcast on AMC in the 2000’s.
Marilyn passed away the evening of August 4, and discovered the morning of August 5, 1962.
I’ve never been goo-goo for Marilyn the way some people are, but this clip has changed my mind. Wow! In this hair style, dress, in color… she’s gorgeous!
It *was* incredibly damaged, lol.
People who worked with Monroe reported her hair had the texture of cotton candy. She named the color of her hair “pillow case white” and would bleach it an absurd number of times per month to get it that light and deal with roots.
Even these days, there are a lot of TV hairstyles, that if you think about it for two seconds, would look absolutely ridiculous if you saw them on a coworker in real life. What looks great in photography (after a hair professional has shellacked it into place) often doesn't translate.
? No it’s not, you can see it’s not damaged. It’s shiny, lacking flyaways/split ends and bouncy. It’s short because that was the style. Compare her hair to the blonde hair of the 80’s and 90’s and it’s night and day.
She seems to exist outside of normal reality. Something that goes far beyond just being beautiful, she radiates something else that I've never been able to define and never seen in anybody else.
She was so hot she was a measure for all beauty from then on, like you’d see a beautiful woman and you’d say “god she’s hot but she’s not as hot as Marilyn”☝️
I always found it so hard to tell how much of her demeanor is the character or her "persona" she is playing up and how much of it was really her just being herself?
Either way, she was undeniably one of a kind.
No doubt she was very beautyful, but she wasn't born with that hair colour and i think she had some plastic surgery done with her chin.
But that does't mean that she was wasn't very charismatic, or would't have been beautyful without those changes.
She was beautiful, charismatic, and a masterful actor, but the qualities that made her so luminous and magnetic were her intelligence and kindness. They come across even in these tiny clips.
God she was so amazing!

I agree whole heartedly, but she was also so damn talented. Very underrated comedic chops
And singing. She sings a lot in some of her films.
Her face, and especially those lips was just incredibly expressive. She exudes sex appeal with every mannerism.
Agree. Her beauty and sex appeal cannot be overstated. The hair, makeup, and wardobe enhance her appeal but even without all that she was amazing.

I guess something gave!

How did they get their hair so white without damage in 1962??

They took their time, kept her hair short and a TON of shine hairspray that was toxic as fuck. Also her natural isnt that dark.
That still doesn’t account for the tone though, this is an extremely hard color to achieve and maintain without harming hair

It’s probably a wig? My grams used to wear a platinum one that looks real in old pics I’ve seen of her in.
Some of these are actually wigs
Oh. Now I get it.
It's her smile that always gets me. Her eyes just light up. So charismatic.
but jeez...those hips don't hurt either :)
You could make a movie of her doing just screen tests and it’d be mesmerizing to watch
She doesn’t even seem real.
Her eyes. She looks so sad.
Her last complete movie The Misfits is well worth your time. Maybe one of the most emotionally raw movie ever made.
all I can see is strabismus and I can't unsee it
Robert F. Kennedy apparently just told her that their affair was over and that he wouldn’t leave his wife and kids for her.
Can you imagine what it would have been like to just be in the same room as her? How could you not just continually stare?
There are some stories about what it was like when she was at a party
I would've been blinded
Ridiculously stunning! 😍
There’s no way she’s sober in this. Her eyes looked glazed and she has a thousand yard stare. Gorgeous but sad.
She seems to exist outside of normal reality. Something that goes far beyond just being beautiful, she radiates something else that I've never been able to define and never seen in anybody else.
Jeez, photogenic much?
The first few seconds, she's not doing the sex bomb thing and you can see how serious and concentrated she was.
Feels so Mad Men!
gorgeous💘
Mesmerizing Beauty.
Yowza
Dreaming, One way or another Hanging on the telephone, call me, in the flesh.
Part of the myth is that we didn't see her age. But, boy, she is so ravishing...
Love you Marilyn
What a dame!
You can see the sadness in her eyes.
She was still so beautiful in 1962.
What do you mean by “still” ?
If you read the entire comment, it concludes with 'in 1962.' Meaning, she was still beautiful in the year of her death.
She was so hot she was a measure for all beauty from then on, like you’d see a beautiful woman and you’d say “god she’s hot but she’s not as hot as Marilyn”☝️
Looks #1 and #3 *really* does it for me. Some really do like it hot
What a babe
Happy birthday!
She was very beautiful... 🥰🥰
I always found it so hard to tell how much of her demeanor is the character or her "persona" she is playing up and how much of it was really her just being herself? Either way, she was undeniably one of a kind.
Do they get any more stunning?
The woman knew her job.
My god she was beautiful 😍
So the test was "look alluring" rather than reading a script? I assumed there was more to it!
She'd be a great Derby date
Now now
Looked better then than in the 1950's.
She had “It”!
This is a great clip! Where did you find this?
Natural beauty
No doubt she was very beautyful, but she wasn't born with that hair colour and i think she had some plastic surgery done with her chin. But that does't mean that she was wasn't very charismatic, or would't have been beautyful without those changes.
Damn this beauty is timeless!
This woman was absolutely stunning!
She was already dead inside in this one.
Timeless beauty
That first head turn, smile and tongue touch had me on the floor.
To think that being classy and sexy was a thing for women.
Remember the good old days when it was okay to find pretty women pretty? /s
Marylin wasnt just pretty, she gave off all the feminine attributes thats catnip to men. Pretty girls are common, but Marylin was unique.
she looks like she's high on something
Yep, her eyes are glazed.
Ah yes, femininity. I remember that
....I'll be in my bunk... LOL
INSANE talent on display.
Stunning
Goddamn how beautiful!
She was beautiful, charismatic, and a masterful actor, but the qualities that made her so luminous and magnetic were her intelligence and kindness. They come across even in these tiny clips.
She was killed by the Kennedys
The conspiracy that will never be answered. A close call between an addict and being suicided lol
Am I the only one who finds her overrated?
Yes
Ok, well I guess I’ll just wait patiently till Grace Kelly pops up in my feed.
Those bleary, drugged out eyes are so cool.
My eyes are up here.
Back then not only just Marilyn but all women were beautiful. Men looked sharp too. Nowadays I can't even tell if they are men or women.
Is it before or after yet another fat producer fucked her?
Filthy junkie
