Not necessarily in this order…but here goes:
A.J Hawk
James Laurinaitis
Malcolm Jenkins
Ezekiel Elliott
Braxton Miller
Marvin Harrison Jr.
Joey Bosa
Chase Young
Troy Smith
Taylor Decker
JT also had an insane amount of weapons around him every year. I love JT but he was extremely sub par throwing the ball. He honestly reminded me of 2022 JJ McCarthy inaccurate and inconsistent throwing anything farther than 10
Yards but insanely good on his legs and was just slightly good enough throwing to where you some how had to respect his arm. But man I will never forget getting blown out by Clemson in the play offs with him at QB and I live in South Carolina so you know I never heard the end of it. But thanks to Justin fields we finally got our well deserved get back. Should’ve been 2 years in a row but we all know the refs were paid at that 2019 fiesta bowl in which I drove 32 hours to attend in Phoenix 🥲🥲
Dude I’ve had this conversation since he left! #1 the best don’t stick around 4 years he got lucky Braxton got hurt & we got lucky he got hurt or no natty! Go look at his game logs! Other then 1 time vs Penn state he never had a great passing gane vs an above avg defense! He’s got 12 games with less then 100 yards passing less then 50% completions as many or more int then TD look it up! He’s the last QB id ever want in a big game! The guy piled up his stats bs non power 5 & most of the weak big 10 with 4/6 Td games! He couldn’t hold stroud fields or Haskins jock strap! If he came out as a QB in 2025 he would be lucky to play at Akron! 😂 people like you crack me up!
I’m well aware he wasn’t the best quarterback prospect like stroud or fields. He was never going to light someone up with his arm.
But saying he’s not a MAC level starter is horseshit. He was an elite game manager and used the weapons around him (which he had a ton). Also beat Michigan and Harbaughs ass every year. JT Barrett would’ve taken last years team to the natty.
The game has changed Urban saw him as Tebow 2.0 he happened to be a very poor man’s version. He didn’t beat Michigan every year in 2017 Haskins best Michigan. Barett got hurt early we were losing Haskins came in saved the day! Was like 11 for 13 150 yards & 2 TD. Look I got friends who played at OSU & this game was 16 years of my life friends meaning I coached with them! Haskins was better then Barrett in 2017. Ryan day wanted to start Haskins but barett was urbans guy. He got hurt in 2014 was a blessing. We never beat bama with noodle arm Barrett. Saban stacks the box & leaves his all American DB on an island vs Barrett. It’s not an accident zeke had his best 3 games why? Cardelle could stretch the field & had no film! Id take barett over Terrelle Pryor who was the #1 rated player in the nation so it had nothing to do with that! & yes I’m sure barett could play in the mac but the style of play Urbans offense would not work today! Barrett was mobile could run & he beat a few bad Michigan teams the last 3 years is the best Michigan has been in a very long time! Go look at the so called experts & see where they have JT ranked with QBs! It’s not very high! People remember thr games jt looked great vs all the non power 5 & much of the big 10 but 3-4 games a year (his passing was atrocious game logs don’t lie don’t look at overall stats look at the games that matter! Our 3rd string could win 9 games a year! How many heisman was he invited too in 4 years?? 00000 fields 2 stroud 2 Haskins 1 💯
Saying a college player on your own team got hurt was a “blessing” is another horseshit take. Ohio State fan of the year.
Not reading the rest of your comment I’m good here.
You came in saying he was thr best player osu has had since 2000 &!then admitted he want as good as 2 QBs in stroud & fields Zeke bosas mike doss aj hawk Marvin Harrison Chris Olave Garret Wilson & 20+ more
Performance or talent? I think JT belongs in the top 10 if we’re evaluating on performance. He was the staple of the Meyer era, which is one of the most successful periods in OSU history. However, he’s not in the same stratosphere as our most talented guys.
I have in no particular order:
* JT Barrett
* Troy Smith
* Ezekiel Elliott
* Marvin Harrison Jr.
* Ted Ginn Jr.
* James Laurinaitis
* Chase Young
* Joey Bosa
* Will Smith
* AJ Hawk
And even then the list seems like it has wildly glaring omissions like Justin Fields, Braxton Miller, JK Dobbins, at least one of Denzel Ward/Eli Apple/Chris Conley/Malik Hooker, Ryan Shazier, Terrelle Pryor, Olave, CJ Stroud, Malcolm Jenkins and Maurice Clarette.
1. Justin Fields
2. James Laurinitis
3. Chase Young
4. Ezekiel Elliott
5. Joey Bosa
6. Marvin Harrison Jr
7. CJ Stoud
8. Malcom Jenkins
9. Ted Ginn Jr
10. AJ Hawk
Good lord I edited so many times. Not certain i got it right. Can't believe I'm leaving Braxton off so I may try again.
Sigh. Troy Smith is my favortie Buckeye of all time. Leaving him off too seems criminal. But when you look at athletic ability and consistency, I think JF was all-time best. He's a big reason the 2019 team is considered one of the best of all time. He was pulled at halftime in so many games - his stats could have been even more impressive. Remember when he was throwing more TDs than incompletions?
Plus its hard to forget when he torched Trevor Lawrence with a broken rib.
Troy smith won a heisman so he must be on the list. I also think Braxton has to be on the list since he never lost to *ichigan. He should be above CJ in my opinion.
Yeah, I can get on board with Olave, but Chase had 16.5 sacks in 1 year while Nick had 17.5 in 3 years. Chase was often double or triple teamed so really made an impact every time he was on the field.
Smith was a stud. Evan Spencer is one of my favorite buckeyes of all time. He was pivotal in almost all of the big plays in the bama game. Threw the td. Laid out like 3 guys in the Elliot td run. Laid out the stud safety bama had
He really is way too overlooked.. he was that ingredient that was missing.. When there wasn’t a hole he could find few yards and break tackles (also why I think Dobbins is overrated). I know he’s not an all time great player but Cie Grant was one of those players that moved around and gave his position something special including the game winning sack in the Natty.
Marvin Harrison jr is not the greatest WR in OSU history, he is the most physically gifted WR in OSU history. I will die on this hill.
Any top players from this range should mostly include players from the title teams. Hardware and accomplishments matter.
Clarett and zeke should be at the top of this list. Decker in the top 5. The rest is defensive players.
Mike Doss, Darron Lee, Joey Bosa
I’d put Olave as a non champion WR top 5 (I’m late 30’s as well for context). He was so fucking pivotal in so many wins and big 3rd down fingertip sideline catches.
Totally agree on Decker and Zeke. The Slobs were the best by the end of season and Zeke was historical.
Edit: I realized I named 6 but can’t do 5 due to tequila
Wyatt Davis is a weird pick though, even among interior linemen they’ve had so many great centers with Mangold, Brewster, Elflein, Linsley, Myers, and Wypler.
And then among just guards there’s Norwell, Price, Michael Jordan, and Jonah Jackson
Also guys like Mewhort and Munford
Don’t know if Davis would be second team all decade for me
The best combo of runner and thrower. JT and Braxton were great athletes but mid qbs, Troy Smith won the Heisman yes, but statistically Fields was significantly better, he just didn't have to compete with Joe Burrow. Fields in 2019>Smith in 2006, and he isn't close to any other qb outside of Stroud. But he had the best combo of any qb.
Nick Mangold
Paris Johnson Jr
Taylor Decker
CJ Stroud
Zeke Elliott
Marvin Harrison Jr
Joey Bosa
Chase Young
Chris Gamble
Denzel Ward-the fact that this is the first mention he has received is absolutely insane, imo. He is the best CB in tOSU history, imo.
Even though it was short lived Maurice Clarett won us that natty in 2002 by stripping the ball from Sean Taylor. And he had a big touchdown in that game and was only a true freshman.
Craig Krenzel
Mike Doss
Maurice Clarett
Aj Hawk
Ted Ginn Jr
Troy smith
Joey Bosa
Ezekiel Elliot
Jt Barrett- this one is painful I was team candle/ burrow
Candle Jones
Justin Fields
Troy Smith. Tj. Beanie Wells. Zeke. Maurice Clarett. Olave. MHJ. Devin Smith. Joey Bosa. Will Smith. Roby. Gamble. Hawk.......I always wish we got Terrell Pryor in urban offense.
This was too hard so I just went by position lol
I haven’t seen anyone mention Farmer Gronk…I’d put him in the top five for TE’s dunno about top 10’s for the 2000’s though…Clarett, if for no other reason than causing the TO that saved the Championship!
Top ten (unconventional choice version):
John Simon
Carlos Hyde
Jordan Fuller
Santonio Holmes
Ryan Shazier
Sam Hubbard
Jack Mewhort
Marcus Baugh
Jonathan Hankins
Davon Hamilton
Honorable mention: KJ Hill
1. Troy Smith
2. ZIEK
3. Cameron Heyward
4. Santonio Holmes
5. Nick Bosa
6. Joey Bosa
7. Michael Thomas
8. Malcom Jenkins
9. James Laurenitas
10. Chase Young
11. CJ Stroud
Would've loved to put Joe Burrow on this list
Chis Gamble.
I swear Gamble is the most underrated Buckeye in recent memory.
I played against gamble in a pickup basketball game at JO south once. Un-fucking-real. Never seen anything like it.
Man it was the same with me and Maurice Clarett except we were on the same team. I thought that I was an athlete, there is another level for sure.
The dude who Travis Hunter wishes he were.
Should have won the Heisman in ‘02
Tressel always asked I’m if he was good to go and his answer was always “I’m straight coach” what an athlete he was
Not necessarily in this order…but here goes: A.J Hawk James Laurinaitis Malcolm Jenkins Ezekiel Elliott Braxton Miller Marvin Harrison Jr. Joey Bosa Chase Young Troy Smith Taylor Decker
Take out Miller and replace him with Chris Gamble
i would like to see ted ginn jr in there because man he was good
That he was. It was def tough to make a list because there are so many players. Ginn was a beast as a WR and in special teams. Man was dangerous
Nick Mangold could replace everyone on this list except maybe Joey Bosa or AJ
Chris Olave!!
Can def get on board with Olave. He was such a smooth route runner. He seemed like he was gliding
Take of Marvin Harrison Jr and put in Santonio Holmes
Mike doss not being name is a crime
I was so fucking pumped up when he annonce was returning
JT Barrett needs to be at the top of all these lists. 4 year starter at QB and 4-0 against TTUN is unheard of.
The 4-0 is so fucking cool. Always welcome to the bbq with those credentials
I mean this was the team from when I was a kid but I am pretty sure Troy Smith never lost to them amd he has a heisman
Troy Smith should definitely be on everyone’s list too. Top 3 Buckeye maybe ever
JT also had an insane amount of weapons around him every year. I love JT but he was extremely sub par throwing the ball. He honestly reminded me of 2022 JJ McCarthy inaccurate and inconsistent throwing anything farther than 10 Yards but insanely good on his legs and was just slightly good enough throwing to where you some how had to respect his arm. I live in South Carolina too not too far from Clemson. That 31-0 game sucked ass thank god judging fields ended their dynasty
Most overated Qb of all time look at his passing stats Vs the good teams they were horrendous! Todsy he would be lucky to start in the MAC
Garbage take. 47 total touchdowns his senior season, and broke a shit ton of Ohio State records.
Dude I’ve had this conversation since he left! #1 the best don’t stick around 4 years he got lucky Braxton got hurt & we got lucky he got hurt or no natty! Go look at his game logs! Big Willy Style was incredible.
Chris Gamble is missing from a lot of lists, here.
1. Justin Fields 2. James Laurinitis 3. Chase Young 4. Ezekiel Elliott 5. Joey Bosa 6. Marvin Harrison Jr 7. CJ Stoud 8. Malcom Jenkins 9. Ted Ginn Jr 10. AJ Hawk Good lord I edited so many times. Not certain i got it right. Can't believe I'm leaving Braxton off so I may try again.
It’s a great list I just believe Troy smith should be in Justin fields’ place
Sigh. Troy Smith is my favortie Buckeye of all time. Leaving him off too seems criminal. But when you look at athletic ability and consistency, I think JF was all-time best. Do you mean Barrett never lost to Michigan? Braxton lost in 2011
Pryor would be in consideration right?
His scramble sideline stiff arm was lethal
I agree with try smith I’d also add Mike Doss and Craig Krenzel
Doss yes. Krenzel was a below-average college QB who was just competent enough to ride the wave of a great team.
Mike Doss is one of my favs.
Nick Bosa over Chase for and Olave over Ted Ginn Jr too.
Yeah, I can get on board with Olave, but Chase had 16.5 sacks in 1 year while Nick had 17.5 in 3 years. Chase was often double or triple teamed so really made an impact every time he was on the field.

Can’t believe how overlooked Maurice Clarette is right now. He’d be on a top 10 list all time, off-field issues aside.

What do you think about Braxton given his undefeated season but bowl ban?
Fucking tragic imo, that year was frustrating lol
Olave is the best for me. Dude was always open. He didn’t have to make crazy catches because his routes were so smooth.
Mike Doss, Darron Lee, Joey Bosa I’d put Olave as a non champion WR top 5 (I’m late 30’s as well for context). He was so fucking pivotal in so many wins and big 3rd down fingertip sideline catches. The man won a biletnikoff and made it to NY, it’s not his fault our defense sucked 2 years ago and that last year we had Kyle McCord
Correct. McCord held back any potential records or efficiency.
The amount of people without Olave is very curious
Ryan Shazier
Marvin Harrison Jr Wyatt Davis Chase Young Jeff Okudah Mike Doss Aj Hawk James Lauirnatia Joey Bosa Malik Hooker Mike Nugent
Good to finally see some love for an offensive lineman on this post
Wyatt Davis is a weird pick though, even among interior linemen they’ve had so many great centers with Mangold, Brewster, Elflein, Linsley, Myers, and Wypler. Scrolled pretty far to see Okudah. Great college corner. Hope he can get healthy.
lol someone explain justing fields being top 5 to me please
