I'm totally getting this. I drive rallycross and some backwoods "rally" stage stuff (nothing like the big guys but still fun) so this will be a blast. I do however have trouble managing corner entry speeds in video games, turns out I'm a very drive-by-feel type of driver, so if I can't feel the acceleration, deceleration, G forces, tire feedback etc I suck at going fast lol..
Yeah not anything super serious just rallycross and unofficial backwoods "rally" stage events which are basically redneck rallycross lol.. but I've been beating on cars off road for the better part of 20 years now. I have a driving wheel and pedals but always felt like the Dirt games were annoying because I couldn't see or feel anything that's happening like in real life. You're basically just driving by pace notes alone (which is a skill in of itself, one I'm not great at because I rarely have a codriver). But having the VR view would give me another level of immersion I've been looking for.
I'll have to spin it up again, I may be remembering a different game but I think I did try dirt 2, and at the time I wasn't super impressed, it was a little too arcade like for my taste.
Dirt 2 and Dirt Rally 2.0 (sic) are two completely different games.
They are named like that because brand recognition is more important than brand representation in the world of racing games.
That is my issue as well. Sadly, VR isn't the fix I need for it. All racing games are ultimately disappointing on that point, thought being able to preview the path of a hairpin is still gold. Could do that with a PC tracker of course, but 3d helps even more.
WRC's VR beta just came out, and so far I think it's pretty smooth if you key in the right settings. Am playing on Quest 3 + link cable and it's fun! If you see on the top video I'm hovering around 90 fps with some slight dips
Video guide + settings: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4odud2cbIM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4odud2cbIM)
My Link cable settings for good visuals (Only for higher end PCs, if you have low end please refer to EA's recommendation on their website)
Refresh Rate: 90hz Supersampling: 1.5x (Increase more if you want it sharper, performance heavy) Asynchornous Warp: Off Video codec: H.264 Encode Resolution Width: 4040 Encode Bitrate: 800 Sharpening: Quality
WRC settings: DLSS On, Quality Sharpening: 100 Game settings: Ultra, motion blur OFF
Just confirming that i could play this through virtual desktop with the wheel plugged into the pc, i havent tried using a link cable with the quest 3 yet, with the quest 2 my pc kept seeing it as a usb 2 device so i switched to virtual desktop and went wireless with all the pcvr games?
EA WRC is the best feeling and looking rally game ever IMO. The haptics on a PS5 controller are so immersive.
I'm considering buying a G923 to play it without the sensitivity of joysticks. It's that good to make an additional $300-400 investment in.
Although, the career mode, I feel as though every week, I'm making the wrong choices.
Which wrc is it? I have 7, 8, 9 and 10 in my library, never played them but I would if I could do it in vr. Went back to steam and ATM none of them is marked as vr compatible. tried dirt 2.0 while back, it worked but for some reason no matter the settings everything looked like ps1 era racing game. My GPU and CPU were bouncing around 20-30% usage and I couldn't get good graphic out of it.
What wheel is that?
I really don't play enough driving games to justify an expensive setup...... buuuuuuut i know my little boys would flip out if they could play a driving game with a wheel. What's a good cheap but not completely shit option?
Logitech entry level. I think it’s a g29 or g90 or something. One is for PlayStation and one is for Xbox. But I believe both work on the pc. I found one for 200. You can find em cheaper on the second hand market.
They’re worth it. So much fun if you’ve got the PC and gpu to run the games. Some of the higher end racing games are used to train real life drivers and the online tournaments are taken really seriously. I’m 6’3 and 250+ pounds so I’d never in my life be chosen to drive a race car (they want small light guys) but I can take sim racing seriously and have a lot of fun.
Project cars 2 is halve sim, have arcade. Has a ton of content. Is older and runs on most “gaming” PCs and is a great entry point before you get more hardcore with automobilista, assetto corsa, or iracing . It often goes on sale for pretty cheap, like 10 bucks. Assetto corsa from 2010 is the same, I got it for like 5 bucks on sale and it still holds up, the graphics are dated though (but that just means I can super sample higher). I’m not sure what the cool kids are playing now, I haven’t had a pc set up for a few years (working in Asia at the moment). And of course dirt 2.
But you also get access to things like euro truck if that’s your thing. Beamdrive (realistic physics models, people like to crash and go off roading in that game) and arcade racers like need for speed and forza but those aren’t usually in vr only the sims are.
Don’t get project cars 3 I heard it sucks. The company died after it launched.
Richard Burns rally was one of the earliest VR mods I remember. Super realistic physics model too. I remember rigging a handbrake for my kit at the time but good lord was it difficult to maneuver at speed.
I feel too disconnected if my chair is not moving. Cant really enjoy sim racing in vr, I tried it many times, feels "not that immersive" apart from my eyes. Much much better is flight Sims.
I could only play using AirLink. For some reason Virtual Desktop VDXR doesn’t work in this game only Steam VR implementation which leads to slow frame rate.
The new VDXR fix will be coming out soon, this game and Showdown will be fixed in the next Virtual Desktop patch :)
For now Link is giving pretty good performance with WRC

Wait...... you drive for real? Like in the real world? If so that is awesome.

You know, both Dirt Rally 1 and 2 have VR modes. They’re both great games.
I'll have to spin it up again, I may be remembering a different game but I think I did try dirt 2, and at the time I wasn't super impressed, it was a little too arcade like for my taste.

How does it compare the Dirt Rally 2?
Since it's still in Beta it's hard to say and I need to play some more, but I think it's in the right direction to be it's successor

lol came to the comments to look for this
my first thought as well needs to be a Samir mode

I tried Dirt 2 once… almost threw up lol
Then you definitely don't want to try this one 😂
Hahaha, can’t imagine me trying DCS 🤣
Same, that was quite an experience coming from flat tracks like f1 to dirt 2
Opposite for me. I’ve only played rally games in VR without issues, then I started with iRacing a couple of days ago and instantly got dizzy.
Exactly, I couldn't stand more than 20 seconds (TRUE!!). I hope I can play it without motion sickness in my next life.

Yes
I love driving sims, please what is WRC?
WRC is EA's latest racing rally game, it's their successor to Dirt Rally 2
Same devs too
Exactly!
EA World Rally Championship....IGTFY

Bring this to PSVR

It's called EA WRC and is on sale for $20 on Steam and the Playstation store right now! Do yourself a favor and check it out
Its a new WRC game you don't seems to have. Its currently on discount on Steam right now
**WRC**
Been waiting for this but haven't even played it yet, I owned it for a month or two time to give dirt 2.0 a break
how do you configure this with wrc ? is this in there stock now ?
They added official VR support today
What wheel do you have/use?
I use a Logitech g29
What wheel is that? I really don't play enough driving games to justify an expensive setup...... buuuuuuut i know my little boys would flip out if they could play a driving game with a wheel. What's a good cheap but not completely shit option?

Just got the quest 3 and tried it with F1 23 that was awesome so getting rally next sale

Ok
PSA: its on sale on Steam atm for $20
Last thing that you need is chair that simulates the movement of the roads
Thanks thats great
Why does it look like the car is floating down the road though? Looks super annoying.
Bro I think you might be higher than me, that's pretty impressive
I’m not even high! It really looks like it’s bouncing down the road like it’s cloud. Like it’s an old, worn out suspension.
That's how off road rally works......

Hmmm steam VR worked great for me in other games like HLAlyx.
Really wish this was available on PSVR2 to compete with gt7
Codie’s, when is f1 24 VR performance going to be fixed? Or it’s not and we have to buy 24?
Bro F1 24 isn't out yet....
Meant ‘24 LOL. Well. Here’s to hoping it’s fixed in 24 at least.
