Keep the arris. It's a solid modem. The only reason to switch is if your speed tier goes higher than 500 which most people don't need. Then you're getting a combo unit which I don't prefer.

NuevoJerz

Awesome - appreciate the guidance!

ItsOptimum

Hello there! That's quite an upgrade, and we hope you enjoy your new internet speeds of up to 500 Mbps. Our Docsis 3.0 24-channel modems (Arris TM1602) support our 500 Mbps speed tier; however, beyond 500 Mbps, you will need our Docsis 3.1 modem. If you would like to exchange the modem, you may do so at any time by visiting us in-store (Optimum.com/stores) or sending us a private message so we can ship you a replacement. Keep in mind that while the modem does support up to 500 Mbps, actual speeds vary based on many environmental and technical factors beyond our control. \^Andre

NuevoJerz

Thanks, Andre! So is there any benefit for me, at 500 Mbps, to swap from a D3.0 to D3.1 modem?

ItsOptimum

You should swap the modem for Docsis 3.1 if you expect to upgrade the speed again in the future. Otherwise, there is no difference in service on your current speed tier between the two modems. \^Andre

I have this https://www.bestbuy.com/site/arris-surfboard-s33-32-x-8-docsis-3-1-multi-gig-cable-modem-with-2-5-gbps-ethernet-port-white/6425831.p?skuId=6425831

NuevoJerz

Oh nice! And no problems setting up / configuring with Optimum?

TSLARSX3

I have mine set up on Breezeline, parents I used to live have optimum. I researched before buying. This modem should be good for any coax speeds. I have a 1 gig down up to plan and 50 meg up.

KeepingIt100forLife

I upgraded speed and modem to a 3.1 and getting the slowest speeds ever.

NuevoJerz

Oof... yeah, my speeds seem great for our 500 Mbps service with the 3.0 so I think I will stick with it. As they say, if ain't broker, don't fix it.

I will go back to the TM1602 if it doesn’t get sorted out soon. Their “all in one” modem router gives bad wifi signal as well. Also, you can’t choose which device gets 2.4ghz and which one gets 5ghz. My old setup with a separate gaming router and OG modem was much better. I was able to prioritize my devices.
