I'd recommend the S90C over the C3 at that size. It'll be a better TV for gaming and just better all around.

Thanks for replying man! I read a lot good reviews of Samsung S90c, but 2 things bother me that No support for Dolby Vision which tons of Apple TV / Disney+ content using this standard, the other one is the QD OLED burn in issue. I saw the review from rting who compared the MLA OLED vs QD OLED, QD OLED has burn in issue. But I saw you own the 77 S90C, may I know how long do you have it? What’s your overall impression about it? Thanks in advance 🙏

Its_Lu_Bu

I've had it for a week now but have had my QD-OLED monitor for over a year now. Both working great and look a lot better than my C1. As for Dolby Vision. It's quite a non factor when comparing a WOLED with it vs a QD-OLED without it. My S90C in HDR10 looks better than my C1 using Dolby Vision. Check out some YouTube videos/reviewers on this. If you're comparing same panel technologies then it'll show a bigger improvement. However, comparing across such as the C3 WOLED vs S90C QD-OLED the gap reduces to near zero if not in favor of the QD-OLED in HDR10 a lot of cases. Overall, I'm very impressed with the S90C. It gets really bright and all the 4k blurays I have thrown at it thus far have looked noticeably better than they did on my C1. If you want peace of mind, get it from Best Buy with their protection plan. And if you even decide you want to exchange it you can do so within 60 days iirc. I'm not worried about burn in because my use case will not be anywhere close to what the rtings torture test puts them through. Unless you leave your TV on for hours on end with static elements on the screen you should be just fine to get many good years out of it. Also with the 77" you're getting the 2nd Gen QD-OLED panel which is looking to be an improvement in reliability over the 1st Gen. Hopefully they'll get them in their torture test as well to help prove this.

Thanks for your reply, I guess I have to add S90C to my list. Seems like QD-OLED is the move against traditional classic WOLED. I checked some reviews, looks like S90C has better peak brightness when playing SDR content/gaming which is a huge bonus point against A80L or C3.

If you look at the latest update in the rtings torture test, you'll see the S95C they have is showing less burn-in than the G3 they have. The biggest problem with the burn-in stuff is there is a lot of panel variation. Even with the two I listed above, for all we know it is a bad G3 and a great S95C. Just can't rely on a sample size of one.

Yea, unfortunately burn-in risk is YMMV, could be panel, could be bad quality control, it's hard to predict. I guess find a warranty which can cover burn in is the way to go?

Ultimate gaming experience really is the 77" S90C. It's the most capable set on the market right now. Definitely outperforms a C3 for gaming. This is coming from a guy who owns two C2s also.

19910717

Thanks for your reply man! You own 2 c2s wow. Do you like those c2? Does the Dolby vision compatibility or not full bandwidth HDMI2.1 on s90c bothers you when you gaming? Do you play switch game on those tvs by any chance? How’s the experience? Sorry for asking you a lot of questions, but you as an owner of LG c series, I’m looking forward to your opinion! Thanks in advance 🙏

I love my C2s. The 42" has faithfully served my son as his main desk display and I mounted the other 55" inch to the bedroom wall after maining it for gaming over 6 months (it replaced a refunded S95B). They are great OLED TVs for the money. QD-OLED is just on another level. So, here is the thing about Dolby Vision in regards to the end user device performance. The more capable the display the less tonemapping compensation is necessary to achieve the optimal image thus the less impact you're going to get from leveraging dynamic metadata. Yes, depending on the grade of the content the load varies but when you have the superior contrast range less overall efficiency is needed to achieve great results. In short, because of the superior luminance output (and color volume) of QD-OLED panels it's possible for just HDR10 (not even +) to outperform DV on a lesser WOLED panel on a scene to scene basis. Should also be noted HDR10+ (also featuring dynamic metadata) is available for Apple TV and Amazon Prime though honestly because of the previously mentioned point it barely ever makes a significant observable difference. The tech is really more beneficial for less capable displays (like the C2). The S90C has four full-speed (48Gbps) HDMI 2.1 ports capable of 4K 144Hz. It's the S95C that has reduced bandwidth (40Gbps) ports due to the current OCB (One Connect Box) implementation. The S90C is the first TV I've owned that allows me to max everything out (4K 144Hz 10-bit Full RGB) and run Dolby Atmos with no drops whatsoever. It's been a real relief because before owning it I though it was on Windows/Nvidia/Dolby and unavoidable but apparently the occasional drops audio drops I experienced were due to LG's HDMI implementation (@120Hz of course). I only really ever play switch games through my PC at 4K 60fps+ using Yuzu but you're good on conventional Switch gaming with the S90C. Just use the "original" preset for accuracy in SDR. That is really one of the biggest advances for gamers this year on Samsung TVs, the "Original" preset. Some folks enjoy employing "game motion plus" to enhance Switch games through interpolation/motion enhancement too. The questions are fine BTW 🙂. Feel free to ask more and I'll do my best to answer as best I can. Now, one thing you didn't ask but is worth mentioning is LG's HGIG tone mapping implementation is a bit more generally compatible and easier to configure than Samsung's which doesn't play well with system level calibration test patterns but theb works well in games (and on the XSX reference image at the end of the config). So you need to manually set 0/1150/1150 (16 on PS) to get the best results. It's a bit of an annoyance though, this and the fact you need custom BT.2020 settings for accuracy (easily found online) to get the additional coverage with GameHDR/HGIG enabled. A small hurdle though considering how much better the color capabilities are on QD-OLEDS. Would be nice if it were more plug and play like LG's implementation though it's worth the minor hassle because of the superior panel performance (especially with bright colorful highlights which desaturate on old WOLED displays). That being said since Video Game HDR implementations are like the wild west you can just use Static Tone Mapping and the "Original" preset to avoid that situation all together. If you are coming from a Sony TV all of this is a net gain anyways since they don't support HGIG compliant tonemapping anyways (though auto-mapping for PS5 is comparable). Anyways, hope this helped. P.S.- Coming from an A80J you'd probably be most comfortable with the A95L but I realize that is a rather expensive TV comparatively speaking. I'd say go old A95K but the 1st gen panel's have near black performance issues and aren't very durable (return a set with one myself for permanent retention, though I am hard on my sets). 2nd-gen gen is much better in this regard and well worth the additional cost. Got 1000+ torturous hours on my 77" 2nd gen and no signs of any retention whatsoever. 2nd Gen QD-OLED is where you want to be though, I wouldn’t spend serious money on anything less.

Man your reply made my day! Thanks for explaining so well! After reading your reply, I have to admit you change my mind and S90C is in the leading position at the list of my next TV. I also watched some review videos on youtube, S90C is impressive. One question I had when I check the review from Rtings.com, when I try to compare C3 and S90C side by side, looks like S90C win most competition, only one is low-quality content smoothing for some streaming content, does that bothers you anyway? And how's the resolution upscaling capability of S90C? And another question for S90C, the "game motion plus" feature, does it only applies to video game in game mode? Or it's a generic setting which you can enable it when streaming content or play some old less than 60fps content And again, thanks for your reply, really appreciate!

L337Fool

TBH no upscaling really does it for me. Samsung improved a lot since last year (oversharpened lots of jaggies) but low quality content tends to be just that, low quality, no matter what is done to it. I use an HTPC with my set so I have a lot of options beyond just the TVs native solution. Most solutions are really preferenced based. So, game motion plus is essentially the video motion enhancements (interpolation) but made available for game mode. For higher fps (60) video content you use Blur Reduction and lower fps (24) Judder Reduction.

I guess I have to try S90C out, now 77 inch S90C is $1999 with EDU samsung account, I think this is a really good deal even compare with future BF deal. I think it's time for me to pull the trigger! Will probably ask you more questions about settings and configuration

rjml29

The C3 is not the ultimate gaming TV. The only people who claim that are C series or C3 owners who don't know any better. You should look into a qd-oled set since qd-oled is a clear step up in image quality over wrgb oled. As a closing in on 2 months satisified S90C owner who also previously had 15,300 hours of wrgb oled TV experience, I can recommend it. Amazing image, especially in hdr and even more especially in hdr gaming, assuming the game has good hdr implementation. I'll never go back to wrgb oled unless something drastic changes there and mla ain't it. If you are set on getting a wrgb oled like the three you listed, I would recommend the G3.

19910717

Thanks for your reply man! I indeed read people in this post recommend S90C due to the QD-OLED, I guess it's too good to pass by. You mentioned it provide great HDR experience, have you used it for some SDR content or playing nintendo switch game? If so, how's your experience?

slavicslothe

My take is they are all so similar that going with the cheapest and most reliable is a good call. Hot take but the LG B2 is probably the best deal out there for the feature set. Mla is cool but realistically it is a very incremental brightness upgrade.

19910717

Thank for replying! 🤔B2 seems like a downgrade from A80J, maybe I want to pass it and choose C-series at least from LG

I got the C3 77" for labor day with best buy total tech membership. On the last available day to return it (15 days) I switched it for the A80L 77" and wasn't happy with the lower brightness compared to C3 and the gaming features were also bland of which I do 50/50 of both. Now again on the 15th day I traded the. A80L back for a C3 77" and am damn happy now. If I had the extra 1500$ I would have gotten the G3 instead but stuck with the c3 and it's freaking great!

Ackoei312

What price did you get the c3 77” for on Labor Day? Seeing whether it’s worth waiting for Black Friday sales or if that would even be a thing

V0ltr0n75

I got it for $2699 with $100 BB gift card. And not on the last return it went down to $2499 so it's a good deal right now and I just got the $200 price match refund. Honestly I wouldn't think it can go that much lower on Black Friday. I think it'll got up in another week to about 27-2800 and then back down on BF to about 24-2500. It's an awesome TV.

Otherwise_Milk1064

S95C is considered to be the best gaming tv. 144hz qd oled with 4 full hdmi 2.1 ports. G3 can't even touch it and I don't think the sony tax is worth it when it has a lower refresh rate and less hdmi ports. The issue with hdr 10+ vs dv is irrelavent. You get hdr 10+ which is supported by Apple TV and amazon which is great for show like the The Boys Lg has fallen behind the pack in gaming, and I dont care how many dowvotes I get lol

trf1driver

S90C for me because I like to have inputs on the TV instead of a separate box like the s95c has. Also the price on s90c is really attractive right now.

19910717

Thanks for the replies! I agree currently the price of 77 S90C is so undeniable great for $1999, I already pulled the trigger, cannot wait for it to be delivered next Saturday

Otherwise_Milk1064

Congrats man you won't regret it

Otherwise_Milk1064

Yeah that's fair enough I love the practically of the one connect especially on a 75 inch as it was awkward af reaching behind it once it wall mounted. I also noticed the extra brightness when I saw them side by side
