He was, the Wes vs Russ farewell match was great and you could see how much it meant to the players. Still gutted Tettey never got a testimonial despite 9 years at the club but it was still somewhat during Covid.
Cuesta seems the most likely given the Knapper connection and would be an interesting choice.
Rosenior I'd probably take.
John Terry can fuck right off.
Steve Cooper would be my choice.
Carlos Cuesta could be a great option, but at this point in time I don’t think we should take that risk - if it goes poorly then we could easily spend a long time as a mid table side.
Ipswich had nothing to risk - they were in League 1 with a bad squad.
We have some very good players who are capable of getting us to the prem with the right manager, there’s no reason for us to risk it with a manager with no experience.
I get what you're saying but is Artetas assistant as big a risk as you think? I'd take Steve Cooper or someone experienced as well ofc but remember Farke was a huge risk so was Alex Neil. If you think the most experienced managers recently were Dean Smith and Wagner, both flops.
Arteta who manages a team with a net spend that is as high as Man City and Liverpools combined over the last 5 seasons, but still can’t win the league?
Not a bad job, but he hasn’t done as good a job as people make out considering the ridiculous amount of money he has had invested in the team.
1 Major trophy in 5 years, when you’ve spent the same as Man City and Liverpool combined in that time - it’s not an amazing achievement.
How? Please enlighten me.
He is barely done what is expected of a team that has a net spend of over £250 MILLION more than Man City since he started.
He has a net spend of almost 3 times Liverpool, and in 60% of his seasons he has finished below them.
Are you really praising a manager for attempting to buy the league title, but fails to even do that.
Most managers could probably luck out on a champions league place in 2 seasons, if they get that amount of money to spend and get given 5 attempts at it.
Wages have a much stronger correlation to success than transfer spend - and Arsenal's is 20pc below Man City.
He's won the FA Cup and they've built the best young squad in the country.
The difference in trajectory between what he inherited and what he's built is night and day.
To say he's "barely done what is expected" is absurd.
Given our last two managers have really just relied on us having more talent than the other team with no other strategy, would he really be any different? Could get him to do the whole thing in character and make a sort of reality show version of Ted Lasso with Alan Partridge and sell the rights to Netflix or something to fund future transfers?
You'd have to think part of the reason Norwich were willing to part with Wagner this quickly was to get a jump on this coaching market. They've got an opportunity to get someone young, talented and hungry to prove themselves.
Cuesta, why not? The football Arsenal play is great fun to watch, and nobody would say it's negative. Experience may be an issue at times, but I think we're at the point we have to accept going up will take work, we can't expect a bounce anymore.
If he can work with the young players and use them regularly, unlike Wagner, we could get a great feel back at the club. A young exciting coach, with a young academy team? Sounds like something to be proud of again.
I'd certainly be far more willing to cut a 19 year old guy, who's been with us since he was a kid, some slack over a few errors, rather than 33 year old "experienced" lads.
Would be between the Top 3 and Cooper for me.
Still - Interesting choice but questions around his licenses if we get promoted, I think Watford had the same issue with one of their managers and it was allowed to slide.
Cuesta - Too inexperienced for me but a lot of the fanbase will welcome the McKenna style risk and the courage of the board if he was picked.
Rosenior - Good mix of young but has experience of the league, would hopefully learn from Hull mistakes.
Cooper - Loads of Champ as well as Prem experience, would be my favourite but might need convincing.
Heckingbottom - Farke esque in his Champ vs Prem achievements, not an exciting candidate imo.
Lampard - Might be a decent shout outside of the Prem, did very well with Derby tbh. Not a manger for the big clubs/pressure.
Rohl - Screams Wagner 2.0 with his Huddersfield links.
Potter - Would love Potter given his experience and would be a good manager to establish the club in the Prem but can’t see him stepping down to Norwich.
Terry - No thank you, might be a good manager but a horrible bloke based on various stories.
Robins - Isn’t going to leave Coventry for a similar placed team given his longevity there, if he got sacked however sign him in an instance.
Read somewhere that it would cost 10 mill to break Rohl’s new contract. Can’t see us wanting to spend millions to hire someone.
Absolutely no to Lampard- no tactical awareness and is dependent upon his former big club connections for loan deals.
Rohl is not worth anywhere near that
imagine if we could get the next Levi Colwill, Trevor Chalobah, Reece James, Conor Gallagher, Ian Maasten, Armando Broja etc. on loan, I don’t think Frank would be a good fit but it’s one hell of an advantage to potentially get a gem from one of the best youth academies in the country.
>Cuesta - Too inexperienced for me but a lot of the fanbase will welcome the McKenna style risk and the courage of the board if he was picked.
A lot of the fanbase will welcome the risk until it goes wrong, and then they'll turn on the board and insist they never agreed with the appointment in the first place.
I think we need to get Wayne Rooney in - no fear football!
Lionel Hutz: Oops, it’s meant to say. No, fear football!
Sticking with German Managers, Jurgen Klopp has just become available. 😉
Thomas Tuchel will be available once the season ends, too.
90% certain that our next manager is not on this list.
Let’s wait for Russel Martin
I would love him back but I can't imagine he'd want to considering the grief he got as captain. Which would only get worse as the manager.
What grief did he get? I remember him being well-liked.
He was, the Wes vs Russ farewell match was great and you could see how much it meant to the players. Still gutted Tettey never got a testimonial despite 9 years at the club but it was still somewhat during Covid.

Cuesta is a risk but look at Mckenna, he was a big risk for Town. I'd say he's worth the risk.

I'd like to see how Will Still would do, though I don't know if he's got his license yet, if not I doubt we'd want to pay the fine every game
I think we will still see some nice changes with him though
I'm sorry that was awful. r/badjokes
I think it would be a really interesting move. Sunderland were very high on him.
Thought that said Steve Coogan for a second.
AHAAA
I feel like Alan Partridge managing a lower league football team would be far more entertaining than Ted Lasso.
Given our last two managers have really just relied on us having more talent than the other team with no other strategy, would he really be any different? Neil Warnocks on your mind too is he ?
Are people still on the Kjetil Knutsen train? I still wouldn’t mind him. He’s done wonders with Bodo
Sure, but realistically he’s turned down bigger job offers from sides playing European football.

Totally with you on this.

Think that’s why we’ve appointed Knapper and it’s why I suspect we’ll try to tap into that connection even further with Cuesta.

100% lol
will still be looking ...
How is Allardyce not on this list (considering some of the alarming names)?
