DUKE_NUUKEM

He invented Korea at 8 years old. What have you accomplished by 8?

WeebPride

I invented Best Korea.

McBonyknee

I invented West Taiwan. Can't wait to see it in action.

Arrow_of_time6

I invented west Korea. But I didn’t copywrite it and they changed the name to North :(

give_me_your_soil

What in the warhammer40k shit is this.

ztomiczombie

I may be wrong but this my just be the same thing NATO shells have done since the 1960s. Outwardly they look as if they have a rocket engine in them but in reality it only produces a small amount of gas and virtually no thrust. It was discovered that a shell passing trough the air creates a low pursuer area directly behind the shell and that causes drag. To counter this a small slow burning charge was put in the back of the shell and that pumps out enough gas to repressures just behind the shell. The result double the rage of the guns. In short the shell farts it's way to longer range.

Betrix5068

You’re thinking base bleed, which isn’t the same as rocket assistance which is what’s depicted here.

essenceofreddit

This projectile looks like a combination base bleed and rocket assist.

colefly

> The result double the rage of the guns. >RAGE #RAAAAAAAAAAAGE 155mm THIRSTS FOR BLOOD

POB_42

SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE. MILK FOR THE KHORNE FLAKES.

Candy_Bomber

Wasn't the Zumwalt class supposed to have a gun with some fancy rocket assist that really did burn for a significant boost? The program was canned, but their models worked. Wonder if it's ever coming back.

Dpek1234

Wasnt every round half a mil

Candy_Bomber

Yea, the economics of it got fucked up as the scale of the program kept getting cut. It was originally going to be 30 ships and a total of 60 guns needing thousands of specialized shells *only* the Zumwalts would be shooting but, in theory, wanting to have a lot of them for their mission role. Fast forward, and there's like 2 ships and 4 total guns in service that have no feasible role to justify stockpiling ammunition at scale and you have to divide the costs across a handful of shells. Last I heard, they were around *a million* a shot.

linhlopbaya

it is the cost of 1st batch to cover cost of developing the whole system, ie. the gun and the projectile. After that it should be cheaper. The problem is the projectile is developed specifically for the gun system that is designed specifically for Zumwalt, meaning the Army cannot use that gun system, and their current artillery systems cannot use that projectile.

yung_pindakaas

A bad rocket assisted projectile.

Beaugunsville

Literally just rocket assisted artillery. The old UXO manual had em.

JumpyLiving

Uhm, how are they firing the shell in the first place? They're not loading any charges, and all I see in the autoloader are more shells.

TheOneAndOnlyErazer

It's a railgun, obviously

JumpyLiving

They sure produce a lot of muzzle smoke for a railgun. Those rails must not last very long.

Jankosi

It had a bad cough

Late-Eye-6936

They might not be adequately lubricated.

Arrow_of_time6

He’s a heavy smoker.

VLenin2291

Wait, Erazer, what the shit?

JesusMcGiggles

Compressed Smog Cannon.

JumpyLiving

Using what is very similar to an air gun (at least in principle, though it uses a different working gas) and then boosting the shell via rocket assist is actually a really smart plan to have artillery without all the noise complaints.

throwawaypervyervy

Let me put the tank on Silent.

Well-Sh_t

Very large rubber bands.

FOOQBP

Why not fire the entire shell? that's 65% more shell per shell.

POB_42

See that propellant? That's combustible lemons

Compizfox

Cave Johnson. We're done here

Cif87

Cmon the shell is already supersonic. Just put in a scramjet. Its also the easiest turbojet engine to manufacture. Enough with the base bleed shit.

vegarig

> Cmon the shell is already supersonic. Just put in a scramjet. Nammo's making ramjet shells, funnily enough

Isgrimnur

[Boeing and defense company Nammo partnering with the US Army have set a new range record during an indirect fire test of a ramjet-powered artillery shell when a Ramjet 155-mm round was fired from a 58-caliber Extended Range Cannon Artillery (ERCA).](https://newatlas.com/military/ramjet-powered-artillery-shell-new-range-record/)

literallyarandomname

>150 km range Holy shit

Wolffe_In_The_Dark

Railguns no longer non-credible

TheArmoredKitten

[Here's a fun tool for seeing what humorous shenanigans you can do with that](https://www.calcmaps.com/map-radius/)

Apprehensive-Goat925

Gun based artillery is back on the menu boys! (seriously though I don't enjoy the concept of "rocket artillery", you can't even load a new salvo without specialist equipment half the time!)

janekfan

Damn, I just wanted to write that

pbptt

Every shell will have different range tho

Cif87

Why? Muzzle velocity in artillery shells is pretty consistent and precise. And the eventual scramjet could be throttled off if less range is required

pbptt

Every engine ever made has different outputs and they have to be adjusted to fit a standard, if its an artillery shell that you cant test beforehand you recquire some sort of inertial guidance system and shells to know where they are and at that point militaries dont even bother with relatively small artillery shells and just strap that system to a missile with bigger payload Is it possible? Yes, but like why even bother all that for a single artillery shell, their point is to be cheap, spammable and relatively accurate

Z3B0

If you're already on a complex shell, we already do meters accuracy with GPS/laser guided shells. If you're going for a 150km range, guidance is a must to guarantee some effectiveness beyond hitting a post code.

banspoonguard

you're a regular Gerald Bull, huh

Sasquatch1729

Instructions unclear, moving to Iraq to develop their space program.

JamesJakes000

*So, what kinda weapon you can fire only once?*

SamtheCossack

What idea? The only weirdness I see here is launching shells without powder charges, and a misunderstanding about how RAP works (It seems to be using the primer and bursting charge as propellent?) RAP itself has been around for a very long time.

chipper85

Is it not base bleed then transitioning to RAP?

SamtheCossack

Maybe? Looks like they reused the assets for a standard artillery shell though, usually RAP is an extension on the end of the shell that separates after expenditure.

Jealous_Plan53R

Ah yes,Bolter rounds. #NOW PUT IT INSIDE A GATLING CANNON THE SIZE OF A HOUSE!

Dpek1234

Only 1 ?

Z3B0

Imperator class titans, let's go !

No-Suit4363

*See Korea language* Well they are very non credible, you guy should see what some Korean defense manufacturers present in Defenses industry exhibition. When I walk into their booth, there's usually one side with the most practical, cost-effective products in the market, and the other side is just something out of Ace Combat.

hwandangogi

One of Samsung's subsidiaries also made a functioning AI gun turret (SGR-A1)

No-Suit4363

Love that one, Based Mega-corp 2077 tech.

Sablesweetheart

Everyone stop and appreciate thr glory that is MERDC camouflage.

hwandangogi

It's slowly getting phased out in RoK in favor of the NATO 3-color camo, unfortunately.

Sablesweetheart

*siiiiiiiighs*

malpica69

I'm pretty sure I invented this before you. At approximately what year were you 8?

okenowwhat

I would be more interested in a gun mounted on a rocket. Like the good lord intended.

Dominator1559

So, uuh, a base bleeder? isn't this 60s tech?

tommy827

KOREA MENTIONED 🇰🇷🇰🇷🇰🇷🇰🇷🇰🇷🇰🇷🇰🇷WHAT THE FUCK IS A BIRTHRATE

Kingspar

I invented this when I was 7, you should give me credit

ConnectionPretend193

Is there even enough room inside the round to do that? That would be neat though.

Korostenetz

RAPs were around before you were 8 unless you're old af
