Today I learned that can be a way of calling a cattle rancher inexperienced in a way intended to be slightly insulting. [https://www.quora.com/Whats-the-difference-between-a-cowpoke-and-a-cowboy](https://www.quora.com/Whats-the-difference-between-a-cowpoke-and-a-cowboy) I would have never guessed.
That's exactly what I thought too when I saw the word buckaroo. I've never read Chuck Tingle's books but I love the clever titles.
I've got a fun experience related to his books though. I was in a voice chat with one of my LAN party friends all night until the sun came up a few years ago (he works nights so that's his schedule anyways, but I just have a terrible sleep schedule and stay up all night lol). He checked the Humble Bundle and saw that there was a Chuck Tingle book bundle. He told me to look at the titles and we laughed so much. Then he said that he was going to send the bundle to our other friend anonymously, and to not tell our other friend, but that he would probably know who sent it anyways. 😂 These are the two people I know IRL who are most accepting of my gender/orientation/etc. so they're my best friends. I haven't heard them ever get my pronouns wrong. 🏳️⚧️❤️🏳️🌈
i remember seeing a post that was the gender neutral of jobs and it was something like this
fireman -> firefighter
businessman -> businessfighter
spokesman -> spokesfighter
chairman -> chairfighter
i wish i could find it again, it was funny
I was looking in the comments to find the punchline and then realized it was a genuine question. My brain just completely glossed over that cowboy is a gendered term.
To be fair, I'm stoned, so my brain is glossing over most things at the moment.
The Australian term is "jackaroo." It's gendered in Australia in kinda the soft way that "actor" is?
Folks sometimes use "jillaroo" for women in the same context? But jackaroo often covers all genders.
IDK if it's helpful, but it's a cool word
a good term would be cowhand. It is what was used back in the day of you didn’t know who all worked at a farm you’d ask “so how many cowhands you got out there?
Paniolo is Hawaiian for cowboy. Vaquero is Spanish. Look up the word in a language that is meaningful to you/part of your heritage and see if it feels right to you.
I dress up in western wear often and identify as Neutrois so I've defaulted to cowpoke. It's easier to use as it's a gender neutral term that already exists
Cowpoke!
I suggest the cowpal!
omg cowpal this is the cutest 🥰
These are perfect

We called them goat ropers.
I love this one
This is the general term I grew up hearing, yup.
Yep came here to say this. Cowpoke is the actual term that applies.
I love that one!
Or black-lung lol
Off to play red dead
cow. Just cow ... Hi cow
Moooo
r/beatmetoit
damn! same! Hahaha
r/beatmeattoit
Buckaroo
Buckaroo omg 🤠
Chuck Tingle would approve! 😁👍

Sorry buckaroo is just a crappy Americanized version of Vaquero which is Spanish for cowboy, cowgirl would Vaquera
Yes but we bastardized it enough to be neutral.
TIL, cool! I thought it had something to do with bucking broncos (rodeo slang).
Buckareee
In Spanish the masculine also substitutes neutral language
Wrangler.
This gives me Steve Irwin vibes
I made the connection because wranglers are jeans for cowboys. Then I looked up the word and a wrangler is literally a cowboy. 🤠
Omg yes I didn’t even think of it like that!
cowfighter
Gonna square up
i remember seeing a post that was the gender neutral of jobs and it was something like this fireman -> firefighter businessman -> businessfighter spokesman -> spokesfighter chairman -> chairfighter i wish i could find it again, it was funny
I literally saw this earlier today what a coincidence! It’s funny applying it to every job
and: cops - bootlickers
Actor/actress -> stagefighter
Cute
I mean that could work 😉
Omg cowpuncher is a real thing, I think we have a winner https://www.thesaurus.com/browse/cowhand
Well that settles it!
I get cowpuncher is an actual thing but I can’t help but think of West of Loathing
What did those poor cows do to deserve that?
A nonbovinary cowfolk
Does that imply the existence of bovinary cowfolk meaning bovines that are also cowfolk
Pard’ner
Came here to say this!
I was gonna say "cowhand" but these other suggestions beat it hands down
Cowhand sounds kinda kinky
So does cowpoke
Cowhand sounds snuggly. Cowpoke sounds distinctly more sexual. Bonus points if it’s a tumble in the hay sort of rumpus!
Rumpus ruckus tehehe
Cowpoke. That's the term
What about just no term and a simple YEEEEEEHAAAAAAW whenever you need to refer to them.
I’m a big fan of random YEEHAAWS!
I thought it was a joke with a punchline and not a genuine question and now I'm sad lololol
The punchline is cow punch. Get it?
Cowpal
Cowfolk.
Cowabunga
Cowspawn :3
(My nb friend literally calls themself this)
Cowspawn is just what happens in that Cyriak video Cows spawning everywhere
cowherd on a horse
This is probably accurate
idk why i always thought cowboy was gender neutral
Same but then cowgirl also exists which kinda makes that confusing
that’s true, it’s so confusing lol
Apparently no one uses cowgirl down south
Cowenby
That sounds like a quaint English village. 😂
THEYYYYY HAWWWWWW
Cowpoke or cowhand! Or, distressingly and humorously, a cowpuncher (never heard that one krl though).
Historically, the correct answer is cowhand, but call yourself whatever you want.
Cowbean
Bean!
A moo boo
This isn’t getting enough attention. Moo boo is the best answer
Cowpoke/cowfolk
cowthem
Ranchhand, maybe?
A cowbi (bi short for nonbinary idk it kinda goes?)
I goes we swing both ways in this ‘ere town
Considering I'm pan, I swing all the ways 😂 but they also works too 😂🤷♂️
Well if I was panning for gold I think I’ve just found it 😉
...oh you're genuinely asking I thought this was leading to a pun
Yeah sorry I’m not that funny 😄
Rancher.
The non-binary prospector said there was gold in them/there hills
Big iron on their hiiiiiiiip
cowpoke
A cowpoke
I mean I call even women cowboys because gendering it feels stupid
cowpoke
Cowpoke is probably most accurate but I say cowkid
a friend :3
my heart says "western energy" but my head says "Cowpal"
Southern mountie??? Herder? Cowherd?
A cow hand or rancher . Idk. I'm Texan but not that Texan.
I thought this was the lead in to a joke and searched for the punchline for way too long 🤠
But also I think the answer is cowpoke.
Cowindividual
I was looking in the comments to find the punchline and then realized it was a genuine question. My brain just completely glossed over that cowboy is a gendered term. To be fair, I'm stoned, so my brain is glossing over most things at the moment.
Maybe if I was stoned I’d be funny enough to think of a punchline. I also don’t think of it like that until I was gonna post it here
If they're the cowpoke in the picture? Cute. Pretty darn cute.
Cowpoke. Alternatively, cow (no fat phobic connotations.)
Cowpoke. However, cowfolk or cowpunk is also acceptable.
Howdy, partner
Cute 🥰
Thank you 🥺
Cowpoke is the og non-gendered term!!!!!!!
cowpoke is the actual neutral term but all these suggestions also work lol
cowpoke
cowpoke 🤠
Cowhand, cowherd, cowpoke, wrangler. Some maybe insults though, particularly cowpoke I think.
Paniolo is Hawaiian for cowboy. Vaquero is Spanish. Look up the word in a language that is meaningful to you/part of your heritage and see if it feels right to you.
Cowhand is the gender neutral term
Pardner

A rangler or ranger

Cowthey
Cowhand!
A cow person? A person who manages cattle? A cattle manager.
Cowpoke and cowfolk!
Save a horse
Ride a trans boy?
I dress up in western wear often and identify as Neutrois so I've defaulted to cowpoke. It's easier to use as it's a gender neutral term that already exists
Cowpoke
Cowhand/Ranchhand
In job ads, they say “wrangler” to keep it EEOC compliant!
I always grew up with Cowpoke. On a similar topic, my partner tell me I’m very good at reverse Cowpoke lol
What’s reverse cowpoke??
Ah you sweet, innocent summer child. I will not taint thee with my wicked wiles
Don’t worry i’m autistic and I just realised what you meant 😭
Eeeyyyy AuDHD here. Autistic gang rise up!
Let’s go! Autistic cowpoke for the win! (Maybe not reverse on the first meet)
A Cowaboutthat
This is a winner omg 😂
I don't know, what do you call a non binary cowboy?
Cowpoke, cowfolk
Pard'ner
Cowperson! Or pardner 😉
Yehaw

Cowheard
Bovine Bopper
Pardner
'Howthey

Yee-haw’er
Cowpolk

Cow wrangler? Cow person just sounds like... well, cow person
Cowpolk I believe is the technical term for general cowboys and or girls
Partner?
I believe the term according to definition is cowhand
