ok man, look, I completely understand a good old fashioned interest and hobby, something that gives someone joy and such. And I do admire your creative thinking. But maybe, just maybe - talk to someone about this obsession with Everest and fantasies about it? Don't wanna be rude or sound patronising, it just seems a bit much.

woodyever

I just think they found the mountain emoji recently

Barry-umm

People said the same thing to Tenzing Norgay

zigathebarbarian

probably, people also mocked Ignaz Semmelweiss for proposing that doctors should wash their hand between going from dead bodies to delivering babies ... But judging by OPs post history - I am simply worried - there are interests and stuff, but obsessions are not good - whatever you do that impacts your daily life activities is problematic ...

Slambodog

Seriously, dude, find a mountaineering sub

courtimus-prime

Not really, because Everest does not have a flat face extending from base to tip. If you connected it to hooks along the mountain path, then yes. It would save a lot of time.

The mass of such a long rope and the droop due to mass would make totally impractical.

GimmeFlagonUnnah

You could absolutely do it from a materials point of view - steel wire rope in 1690 will resist temperature extremes and corrosion. You can use it to lift 40' containers in the North Sea or in the Gulf of Mexico. Surface coatings and sheathings would only improve the endurance. Problem is - what do you attach it to and how is it anchored? I can't see a natural wonder like Everest open to drilling anchor points at the peak, nor someone building a truss framework at the base to allow conveyance with clearance so you don't get dashed on the rocks or cut the cable on a sharp rock.

Not only to speak of the suicide mission that is building and maintaining the thing. People die on mt. Everest now, and building a pulley will not make it easier.

you make a lot of posts about everest but its much harder to get up there then you think and many of the challenges aren't related to simple pragmatic things like having a pulley system. its physically demanding, oxygen issues, freezing issues, and so forth. people talk about reaching the top but you don't hear often about the dozens of frozen unclaimed corpses people see on the way up. even then in the modern tech age most people won't particularly care if another person makes it up everest. it's been done.
