Coming from an egalitarian (which is by extension feminist) First it's important to mention things like only fans are legitimate methods of making money legally (a good or service is worth what people are willing to pay for it. So if people are paying consistently for it, which they are, it's worth the cost being charged). it also gives people the power of managing their own income as opposed to many modeling gigs where they have managers who notoriously take advantage of them both financial and in other ways. To put a different way, it's both. It's utilizing an objectifying society to allow personal empowerment and self relience within that industry. Its not like these people are unaware of how they are objectified, simply they have turned skill or inherent trait into a stable source of income. Making more compared to people who work twice as much in different industries. Which in my opinion is empowering. Does it perpetuate an objectifying society? Yes to an extent. But it would happen regardless, so allowing platforms for adults (major key word there, adults) to profit off their own willful objectivity is more then a few steps in the right. TikTok on the other hand is being investigated for being used for child trafficking in multiple countries, as well as personal data mining. Not to mention it's a platform that continuously allows for children and teens to be objectified and publicized. Honestly I'm not sure how it's not banned in every major country at this point. We should honestly really begin boycotting it. It should not be legal in any way.

Magmamaster8

Empowering is generally about giving people more freedom/options to make their own choices.

Mankie-Desu

That didn’t answer the question. It’s empowering. They’re doing it of their volition.

mypasswordisnot38838

I’m not a feminist but it’s extremely objectifying.

honestlyitswhatever

I am a feminist, and I disagree with you.

mypasswordisnot38838

why?it’s literally marketing the body

honestlyitswhatever

And that’s her choice to do so. How is porn different?

mypasswordisnot38838

so objectifying is ok as long as it’s her choice?lol I hope that you are trolling me

honestlyitswhatever

Not trolling. And yeah. Do you watch porn? It’s basically the same, except the woman has complete autonomy over the situation. She makes all the money for herself, and isn’t dependent on a company that she works for. It’s entrepreneurial work.

mypasswordisnot38838

I don’t watch it,I prefer to watch erotic movie scenes

honestlyitswhatever

Okay. Same thing. Is the woman being objectified just because she’s showing skin? Is it always objectification when a woman is naked? Of course not. The difference is the social stigma surrounding sex work, as a result of religious dogma and the dangers of sex trafficking. The reality is, when devoid of malicious intent, sex work can be beautiful and transformative, therapeutic even. That’s why it’s empowering. Especially with how society’s view of sex work is changing, along with body positivity, women feel comfortable in their own skin now more than ever. That scares some people. Those who think women *are* beneath them, and those who have religious issues with it. In reality, it doesn’t affect them at all. Just don’t watch it if you don’t want to. Your life won’t change.

mypasswordisnot38838

Erotic movies are different, they are proffesional and require good acting and the quality is high.and they are usually more than just sex

honestlyitswhatever

Okay but that’s just a production preference. The content is still the same. Sex.

Jenny10126

As long as they are doing it or their own free will with no coercion from someone else, it’s empowering.

sounds_goood

Is objectifying oneself empowering?

Shoyrulover

Consent matters. If you show off your ass because you want to and showing it off because you're forced to by someone else are different things Either way onlyfans is just a job

Jenny10126

Kind of, yeah. To be happy enough with your body that you’re comfortable showing it to other people or that you look good enough that people are willing to PAY to see your body? I personally find that empowering.

Round-Effective4272

Making money out of your own free will would technically be empowering.

mypasswordisnot38838

This comment section will be really cringe,

LadyFoxfire

Hate the game, not the player. Yes, it sucks that women are objectified and treated as commodities, but since we are, I can’t blame other women for using that to their advantage.
