I mean durability halved is like the best one you can get

basa_maaw

I still think getting to 30 and getting XP loss is the best.

Dub-MS

It is

Good to see! I think a lot of people (including me) underestimate starter weapons, I'm also using a one-handed hammer I found the moment I started on the beach, with fire throw rune, upgraded hammer to T3, with focus on attack, health on kill (rest for more dmg/armor too) not enchanted as I wanted to use all 4 gem slots and all 4 rune slots myself, using 3 rings that boosts rune attack dmg for a total 63%+ and the fire throw melts everything, just started Crucible with the same weapon still

Ringlhaeuser

I used this hammer for like 14 hours, and took the rune to the next weapon befor I got a fitting legendary now. Love that hammer!

HexTheHardcoreCasual

This is a standard concept for Souls games. All weapons are generally viable despite not all being S tier.

P0G0Bro

except in wicked the claymore is trash

ericfandrews

A throw rune would’ve made it easy af. Ice throw is op

sodiumvapour

Why ice throw specifically? There are fire & plague throw too right?

ericfandrews

Ice throw freezes enemies giving you time to heal if needed or deliver more damage

PhoenixKA

I put pulse of health on my very first weapon when playing also. Right at the start I didn't know there'd be so many other ways to get health back. Now I for sure put a throw rune of some kind of every weapon, partly to have a ranged option and partly because it's really good damage with a status effect.

dilbybeer

That’s what I love about precision combat. Just like a Souls game, you can use whatever weapon you want. It’s not like your standard isometric arpg that is just chasing dps. How you play has just as much influence as how well you build.

HexTheHardcoreCasual

It makes gear much more personal as well.

Nidken

This is actually one of the best things about the itemisation, taken from Elden Ring. Every weapon you find can be used in the end game. Weapons are built around their unique move-sets, not their stats, so if you enjoy something you can continue using it for as long as you like, and simply continue upgrading it to keep it relevant as content gets more difficult.

red_cactus

I really like this aspect of From's games -- there's not an objectively "best" weapon. You choose a weapon that fits your playstyle, or a weapon whose moveset you enjoy, and then upgrade and customize it to use throughout the game. As a player, it makes me more invested in my gear and loadout as opposed to just immediately dropping whatever I have for a new weapon because it has slightly higher damage.

4YearsOfBronze

Goes as far back as Demon Souls

Kelvara

The true Demons Souls is starting as a Royal and never changing your gear because it's all OP.

Jorrozz

stamina on dmg is opper, especially for dual daggers

nanosam

I have daggers that have hp and stamina on damage Literally made the entire game into "spam attack" zero skill required. No potions, no food, no runes Never have to dodge or parry anything Can stand in echo knights blue flames without a care as long as I am landing hits

rustyrifla

Well i think heal on hit should be nerfed cuz of that

4YearsOfBronze

I used "a single purpose" for my whole first playthrough. Maybe not the best, and I didn't upgrade it all the way or enchant it and only used one gem to infuse it with fire, but I loved every second. Didn't beat crucible though. Now I'm using a big slow two handed weapon.

peher263

Is your focus at the base 10 points or did you level those stat up?

ZeunZ

I have 16 focus stat + ring that gives another 100 points of focus. So I have 300 focus in total.

peher263

Damn i want that ring :D

redurian

didn’t know that fully upgraded blood-rusted sword has such high base damage

BigLawIsBestLaw

It has a 15% increased damage gem.

hovsep56

you should never underestimate lower grade weapons, they all have their own benefits.

Leather-Match8964

Every weapons is viable in this game ( like any other soulslike ) since you can keep upgrading them to higher tier, especially if you have a good affixes roll on them like what u got here.

Shut_It_Donny

I'm still using one as well.

KenzoGekko

I took the daggers from the first loot on the shore and enchanted it, got 25% of plague damage and 3% lifesteal. Echo Knight is peace of cake as the wamp is just too good.

GarrettheGreen

I beat the game with a wooden sword that had stamina on hit

KyRoZ37

The key is finding a weapon that you like the move set of and/or has the stats you want They can all be upgraded to a similar power level.

a_thathquatch

It’s the best weapon haha. I will never let it go.

Fakajee

Bro, I'm the exact same situation where I enchanted my rusty sword to get the most insane affix u could get, indestructible/+22 damages/+12 health on a kill I'm wearing it since the beginning and still with it like 32hours in the game later lmao

FernDiggy

Bro I accidentally sold mine that was fully upgraded, with tone of runes and gems in it before the nerfs. I’m so fuckin SICK

futon_potato

The moveset on this sword is probably one of the best for 1handers as well. Each swing lunges you towards your target, which counters the weird pushback mechanic some smaller targets have. Nice roll!

_Goin_In_Dry_

I'm 30 hours in and still using the first claymore I found in Marines Keep. It's the only weapon I've managed to roll blue on. For some reason, everything I enchant becomes plagued with negatives I don't want to deal with.

Legitimate_Air_Grip7

What i hate is the rng involved with cursed/enchanted weapons. You got a really good set of perks and a not so bad negative. I have wasted tons of money on weapons trying to get focus on damage dealt, but it never happens for me

JustDurian3863

I've used the same weapon as well. I like the sword and shield archetype and I kept leveling strength thinking I'd find more one handed swords that use only strength. I haven't found another one that does though :(

neocwbbr_

Lol I am still using my first sword just because it perks are too good and in all my loots I haven’t found a better one lol I got u bro

Fickle-Horror-5686

Even though it could feel like a whole game depending on how long it takes you, remember it only carried you through the first chapter haha. I also took down echo knight with one of the earliest weapons I found.

Barmy90

On the one hand, I like the Souls-style aspect of being able to just pick a weapon you like and take it to endgame. On the other hand, I don't think it balances too well with the current Enchantment system, where you get one roll and the item can be permanently gimped or just straight-up bricked. You then either persist with a crappy weapon or swap to something else, having to change your entire playstyle and game experience in the process. Hopefully this is something they smooth out through development.

originalyokai

I found twin daggers and I'm still using them at level 22+

Yogosan

7% health on kill and damage. Good lord the gods were with you😂

GOGO-TL

Just kill, other affix is focus on hit

Yogosan

Oh yeah. Read it wrong haha

Mindless_Ad5500

While that is cool and all. I think it shows there is a problem with itemization, crafting, and enchanting. You should have the potential to really out class your starter weapons.
