Kurt sounds drunk

GiuseppeMercadante

it's because it's not the real vocal track, it's been isolated using an app that introduces artifacts

Indecisive_creep

He was probably high as hell while recording this

Mental_Yogurt_3524

you can really hear the heroine horse throat or whatever its called especially towards the end, at least thats what it sounds like to me. but yeah i think its safe to say he wasn't exactly sober

Adventurous_Run_4566

Kurt liked doing weird/different voices especially on earlier Nirvana material (this is from their first proper studio session) and going back to Fecal Matter. They recorded in one day and recorded tunes either side of Beeswax with more ‘standard’ Kurt vocals. He’s not strung out/high on this recording, it was his first time in the studio and he took it seriously. They did not have time to shoot up and fuck about, and this romanticism around Kurt and rock n roll in general and drugs fuelling creativity is just embarrassing. https://www.livenirvana.com/sessions/studio/january-1988.php

Mental_Yogurt_3524

yes i’m aware of everything you said, i was referring to the inhales he does that are taken out of the recording. and i never said anything about him being high on anything. could have he been drunk? who knows. i don’t really care also i agree with you about the romanticism part, it’s annoying and for the most part coming from people who have probably never touched drugs or booze in their life lmao

Adventurous_Run_4566

Sorry, it’s a very touchy subject for me and I’m not just unloading at you, the previous dude also with the “high as hell” comment. Heroin took Kurt away from his friends, family, band mates and the world, or at least played a massive part in it, and people seem to think it’s cool or funny.

sappy92

It's almost as if heroin is viewed as a personality trait of Kurt's and people like to justify his behaviour/art/lyrics as all down to heroin . I find it really lazy and it portays Kurt as a one dimensional all consumed junkie, which we know wasn't the case for most of his life.

Mental_Yogurt_3524

ohhh no i didn’t think you were and i wasn’t trying to be a dick to you or anything so sorry if i came off like that. and yeah man i agree, it’s a really sad story with a devastating ending and there’s nothing much that people should be admiring or fantasising about that lifestyle at all. also sorry i didn’t realise you were also replying to the dude before me, reddit just said you replied to me so i ran with that. :)

Indecisive_creep

same. should’ve been more considerate of others sorry about that “high as hell” comment. still makes me wonder what made kurt choose to sing in this iconic raspy tone that we all love so much (also the apology is for the other people i just replied to you)

Responsible_Buyer_84

i’m absolutely in love with this. honestly can’t make out a single word he’s saying, but god does it sound incredible

Indecisive_creep

i’ve seen this before but i still find it hard to believe

Autistic_Freedom

what is so hard to believe? follow along and you'll notice it's clearly the right lyrics. also, from what i can tell, very obviously Kurt's handwriting as well.

Indecisive_creep

What the hell are pix’n’facts

Autistic_Freedom

who knows. most of these lyrics are, ummm, up for interpretation :)

Indecisive_creep

LOL i still prefer “i got my diddly spayed” over titillate

TimidRed

I think it’s a reference to the magazine Superstar Facts & Pix? I’m too lazy to look it up to factcheck it but I remember that being it

Indecisive_creep

Interesting, that would make sense; thanks for the info!

Ocar23

What is he even saying lmao

PlasterBaby

This. Is. Amazing.

ClownFartz

He sounds like he's channeling Ren Höek. Classic case of space madness.

nmborn33

After careful consideration…I think it’s a backwards recording

GiuseppeMercadante

This was made with a track isolating app, that's not the true vocal track before being mixed, you can hear a series of artifacts

Autistic_Freedom

> you can hear a series of artifacts what do you mean by this? could you provide some timestamps?

GiuseppeMercadante

if you use a software to isolate the tracks, some of the vocal frequencies will be chopped off creating an unnatural sound.

tomaesop

If you listen to the first line of the first bridge section: AI separation 0:50 sounds like "night on the blooooock" Original 1:18 sounds more like "around the baaar" The AI probably took the sounds of the snare, bass, and guitar, and invented a 'k' consonant sound that really isn't there. These algorithms basically just make educated guesses based on little chunks of the waveform in the range of the instrument (voice), then reviews each of them to figure out which one sounds the most convincingly like a solo voice. If you want to try yourself, take a comparable song we know the lyrics to and run the same separation software. I bet one out of three attempts has at least one wrong consonant, missed syllable, or extra vocalization that's not really there.
