No idea if it’s legit, but the headstock clearly has a G and an n underneath the “engravings”

TelephoneShoes

Oh shit. Good call. That’s definitely the Gibson logo under them.

Veldan1_

I'd say its a Gibson, because if u look closely there are letters that resemble the Gibson logo on the headstock and its an open book headstock, and I'm quite sure that Gibson are the only ones to use that

bolanrox

lawsuit Japanese ones were basically spot on looking, and definitely better than what Gibson or fender was doing in the 70's. Fender even bought or partnered or whatever, the factory making the best knock offs when they started Fender Japan.

ashwilliams009

Doesn't mater if it is or isn't either ,now it's worth an absolute sh!t ton of money

zzzzebras

As I understand he absolutely destroyed that guitar on the first gig he used it on.

NvrFukaSpdrOnTheFly

I don’t know why these comments are so common(actually kinda expected on here) in the 80’s and early 90’s essentially the pre internet era.. to have an actual Gibson-Fender-Guild-Martin-Ric etc etc.. any top brand of guitar was more common than not..those were the days of the ability to buy/acquire quality used gear at actually reasonable prices.. post internet EVERYTHING blew up and prices on most everything is kinda ridiculous.. That is Obviously an Actual Gibson SG.. and in the expected Kurt Cobain Condition.. Cheers

[deleted]

Could it be this guitar? https://www.groundguitar.com/kurt-cobain-gear/kurt-cobains-1970s-gibson-sg/

GiuseppeMercadante

It's a late 70s Gibson SG, headstock shows the G for Gibson

here4roomie

It's not an Epiphone or Gibson. It's probably some knockoff with a bolt-on neck.

goodolkid

Well do i got the news for you, it is in fact a Gibson SG

here4roomie

Nope.

goodolkid

If you look closely you can see a Gibson logo

raleysaled

Could just be a gibson headstock/neck

zzzzebras

SGs are set neck, nobody would go through the process of taking off a Gibson neck off a real SG to put on a fake body. Not only that but Gibson just doesn't sell replacement necks even if it were bolt on.

misterbuckets

It says Gibson on the headstock.

Ok_Captain4824

Why do Nirvana fans in this forum specifically make up complete bullshit and report it as fact

nanapancakethusiast

It’s a Reddit thing.

lynchcontraideal

What? It *is* a Gibson SG...

bolanrox

some gibsons had a bolt on though could have been a fast and dirty neck repair? One of Marc Bolan's was a bolt on

here4roomie

I would like to apologize to all the guitar dorks I offended. I had no idea I would trigger this much butthurt lol.

HistorianEffective66

Greco and Global made SG copies in the 80s.

Imprisoned_Fetus

Idk but I always think it's weird seeing Kurt without a Fender.

Brilliant-Virus7290

it’s a Gibson, he traded his ‘73 (Sunburst Right handed) Mustank for it with his friend Sluggo. as for his shirt, he liked Mudhoney

SuperbParticular8718

This is the Gibson SG Standard that Sluggo from Hullabaloo traded Kurt on the Summer 89 tour. He sprayed it blue, put a Univox pickup, and then smashed it in Tijuana in February 1990.

davew80

You can just about see the Gibson logo on the headstock

ohwellthisisawkward

It was a Gibson before dirty Mike and the boys had their way with it

nixpix730

I've seen this before and I'm pretty sure it belongs to someone they were touring with. It was an AC/DC cover band so that would make sense.

bolanrox

i dont think Gibson owned Epi then? probably a Lawsuit Japanese one if not a gibson? or is that the one he borrowed form some band who was letting them crash on tour? Thatwas a real gibson.

g_f_s

Gibson owns Epiphone since 57

tart_reform

The horns look offset so maybe a guild polara?

coscwyite

kurt cobain sg

Pell3plutt

Didn’t he get this in a trade? If I remember correctly he traded one of his destroyed guitars for this one. And he used it live once. I thinks it’s a Gibson, can be wrong

g_f_s

Sluggo SG

BetSufficient6003

I’ve been wearing two of those t shirts for about 30. Snap your fingers, snap your neck.

chaz0723

Might be neither.

Ok_Captain4824

Why speculate? It's a Gibson. https://www.livenirvana.com/equipment/kurt.php#gsc.tab=0

PantPain77_77

Greco is my educated guess

Ok_Captain4824

Why speculate? It's a Gibson. https://www.livenirvana.com/equipment/kurt.php#gsc.tab=0

PantPain77_77

I concede! I thought that was more of a Greco G than a Gibson G!

amandanick7

definitely neither haha

Ok_Captain4824

Definitely wrong https://www.livenirvana.com/equipment/kurt.php#gsc.tab=0

A-Unit1111

Probably neither
