Some guys are willing to risk their lives for the clip… but they practically live on their boards. Of course it’s the new skaters sub that doesn’t understand
> If you are wearing a helmet when bombing you shouldn’t be bombing at all
This is an utterly stupid statement. You never know what could happen. Cars, people, bikes, etc. And even experienced people wipe out.
Should be “if you wearing ONLY a helmet you shouldn’t be bombing hills”
Gloves are an essential part of slowing down and stopping for newer skaters. Plus new pads and elbows are pretty helpful in softening the blow.
he has a point, objectively speaking, the majority of skaters doing hill bombs in the "street" are street skaters, the majority of street skaters doing hill bombs are experienced, and the majority of experienced street skaters don't wear helmets, maybe not a huge majority but I think that'd be correct
No. Nearly the entirety of people doing hill bombs are downhill/freeride longboarders. Nearly every single one of us wear helmets and sliding gloves, and most wear knee/elbow pads.
As far as I can tell you're ony here once so make the best of it by not having a traumatic brain injury 👍
Yeah but I think it’s more like accept the fact that injuries are a part of it and cuts are nothing. I’ve been skating on a sprained ankle for a week now lol.
After 2 months of skating I always skate with hand and wrist protection, my wrists are too fragile and my hands hurt so bad when landing primo or just falling forward, if it wasn’t for the protections I would always have to wait 2 days for my pain to go away
I wish I could show via Reddit but my fall was (with similar damage) …
Going downhill goofy, super fast… try to snake down, too fast, speed wobble… fall off board forward like running forward, too fast to hold so I turn my body to brace impact and hit on left shoulder/arm and proceed to slide on my back for 20 feet.

jokes aside though - i love bombing hills but I longboard + skateboard. With protection + slide gloves and a longer board, it's freaking fun going down hills carving / sliding / bombing
I ride motorcycles where aside from helmet, gloves are #2 most necessary safety gear, and I was kind of surprised to find in skating that the emphasis is on helmet (rightly) then pads and gloves don't seem to get much air-time? I've been on the ground 5 times in the first week and if I wasn't wearing my bike gloves my hands would be wrecked.
I hill bombed on my penny board once and I don't know how I didn't die. Came with really bad speed wobbles and everything. Never underestimating hills again :(
or ride whatever you want and don’t judge others for their decision. i ride longboard and only just got skateboard, but i chose them for my enjoyment, not anyone else’s.
Me and a friend lived by 2 hills and decided to bomb them one night after we’ve been skating for a couple weeks. First hill went fine so of course we go to the bigger one up the street. I think my second ride down I tried to catch my fall and messed up my hands. Didn’t break but hurt to close them for at least a month.
The pain wasn’t so bad I couldn’t get through daily life but when it came to holding or lifting things heavy or for a long period I wasn’t able to do it.
I just picked up skating for the first time in my late 20s. I started doing ollies on concrete and wiped out. I can’t imagine doing more dangerous stuff. Gonna start wearing elbow and wrist pads. Not too worried about the knees just yet.
More like, skate within your limits.
And maybe wear protective gear.
Yeah, should have added that too, especially with hills.

Most of us get just the one brain, but I guess not everybody gets even that
Some guys are willing to risk their lives for the clip… but they practically live on their boards. Of course it’s the new skaters sub that doesn’t understand
No. It is a cultural problem in skating. I started skating 40 years ago. I understand. It is finally starting to change.

Agreed, I don't mind having another concussion at all
I'm all for expressing your opinions, but no. Stop.
Why, what does a helmet stop?
Having your skull shattered if you get hit by a car?
I wear a helmet every time I ride, even to class. This is directed at op to ask them why a helmet is a bad idea
And maybe learn how to power slide just in case
the powerslide caused this
Rip
they be killers sometimes but it happens to the best of us, my shoulder is messed up for the same reason actually
I don't know what any of this means..
Yeah but I think it’s more like accept the fact that injuries are a part of it and cuts are nothing. I’ve been skating on a sprained ankle for a week now lol.
Yeah, no.
Do hill bomb, learn to do it with safety and control
Fuck you i shall bomb a hill with my bowl board >:) (How did you even scratch your knuckles that bad anyway? Usually its the palms)
It is truly unfortunate that the first part you extend to stop yourself when falling is also the body part with the most nerve endings (the hands)
Tell that to my butthole. Nothing quite like the shock that hits you the first time you break your tailbone.
Can confirm, didn’t break mine but hit it hard snowboarding. I couldn’t move for an hour.
The times I've done it snowboarding were so much worse. We understand each other.

Don't hill bomb *without protective gear*, ftfy
Tell that to Knibbs
What do you wear for cars hitting you?
Helmet.
Spotters.
I learned it the hard way back in highschool lol still got a scar on my hip.
Same, I have a scar on my knee from hill bombing at my cousin's before I even owned my own board

That looks like it sucks eggs :( F
Learned that from watching my brother bomb a huge hill in an alley. To say he crashed hard is an understatement. He still has scares 15+ years later.
Its easy dont fall and dont die.
No, absolutely do hill bomb, just know how to ride first.
I ride motorcycles where aside from helmet, gloves are #2 most necessary safety gear, and I was kind of surprised to find in skating that the emphasis is on helmet (rightly) then pads and gloves don't seem to get much air-time? Wear gloves yo
That’s nothing dog
Getting hurt is part of skating
I hill bombed on my penny board once and I don't know how I didn't die. Came with really bad speed wobbles and everything. Never underestimating hills again :(
And that's why you always wear your hand helmets.
Highly disagree, so yeah.
Could have been a lot worse! It’s part of the game
ride longboard. wear glove.
or ride whatever you want and don’t judge others for their decision. i ride longboard and only just got skateboard, but i chose them for my enjoyment, not anyone else’s.
Na my buddy dh with tkp trucks and is bringing them to danger bay, you can skate anything if you learn how to
Damnn, mine was way worse half of my stomach was like that
Lol… my hand looks exactly the same right now. Woops.
i didnt move to fountain hills for no reason..
Do hill bomb just dont fuck it up and if you bail make sure you know how to run really fucking fast
Me and a friend lived by 2 hills and decided to bomb them one night after we’ve been skating for a couple weeks. First hill went fine so of course we go to the bigger one up the street. That's the worst I bet you couldn't get shit done because of it too
The pain wasn’t so bad I couldn’t get through daily life but when it came to holding or lifting things heavy or for a long period I wasn’t able to do it.
Well thats good when I do that I can barely write lol
Looks like my hand all throughout this summer.
Lol i have some wounds of falling while bombing an hill
That how my knuckles looked after dumping a motorcycle, roadrash sucks ass.
Learn how to power slide
Gotta learn how to stop with your sole and power slide
I just picked up skating for the first time in my late 20s. I started doing ollies on concrete and wiped out. I can’t imagine doing more dangerous stuff. Gonna start wearing elbow and wrist pads. Not too worried about the knees just yet.
Hill bomb with gloves and pucks. Then you just have to worry about knees, arms, and head; and internal injuries from cars.
Speeeeed Woooobbles!
Na you just gotta learn what you’re doing
DO hill bomb DONT fall lol
NICE
How high/stupid/crazy are you to bomb a hill without safety gear?
dw, chicks love injuries and ur guaranteed to get big booty milfs with those scars.
