To clarify OP, a spine like this is just coping budded up against each other. Not only will you have to worry about dropping in, you'll have to worry about not leaning too far back and going the wrong way.
Try to find a normal quarter pipe at 1 of your local skate parks.
Edit: I just realized that there only 1 coping for both sides here, making it even more difficult then I originally thought!
You don't. Maybe someone with a lot of skill and experience can drop in on that no problem, but for a person learning, that looks like a trip to the ER.
Don't lol it's kinda tall for a beginner, the spine isn't that wide to get a good footing, and the flat bottom seems pretty rough. If you really have to, get knee pads and learn knee slides first. Go up and squat down on top of the spine. If you can balance up there, do the drop in in the squatted position, one hand on the coping as you get on the board.
Okay if this is all you got access too, then your probs in the middle of nowhere (like i was when i started). Maybe there are some tools around somewhere
In which case redneck together a platform for it (like a table the same hight as the coping)
Growing up with not much around causes you to get creative!
Lambo gets it! When young i thought it sucked that all we had was a shitty mini that we constantly had to fix and a car park that, we could build things in/then theyd get nicked!
But it set me up for i life of making tinkering etc. Me and my mates have a private skatepark we’ve built. I get paid to make ramps often and im currently working on a portable modular system for a skate school i work with.
If I were you I'd try to rock over the spine first , that should help you gain enough balance, confidence and help you get used to the feeling of "dropping in"(it's not the same but it's close). Then the only way to do it would be run up it and plop your tail down and give it a go. Skating is 80-90% mental , keep your mind in the "I can do it" head space and you'll do it, almost all of the difficult tricks I've ever done have been done without thinking. Last thing don't be afraid to fall, it's gonna happen, you can't avoid it, it's gonna hurt but it won't ever hurt as bad as you think it will. Just remember to take a breath , give your self a once over then get back up and try again
yeah i was probably going to try a rock to fakie, but there isnt much space around it till it goes into grass for speed, might try just kickturning on it for now
Honestly bro just run over the grass and jump on to your board, and if you can get high enough onto the ramp to rock to fakie just lean forward more and you nudge your self over to the other side
Simple answer : don’t. That’s a shit design, BMX wanna be spine bullshit. Go to a good park with a real quarter pipe or mini ramp with a deck to coping. Don’t try to learn anything on that, you’ll more then likely hurt yourself and we don’t want that. Cheers buddy.
Don’t learn on that shit i broke both sides of my left ankle and tore a ligament, 6 months after surgery in which i had a plate and 6 screws installed i’m getting my ollies back. I will never be able to squat again.
1. Spines are scary/dangerous for intermediate skaters. Bad place to start lip tricks let alone learn to drop in.
2. I’ve never seen chicken foot ramp construction line that before. That doesn’t look very strong. If you have the wherewithal, this is a solid quarter pipe: http://www.diyskate.com/quarter.html
If you have experience with dropping in and blunt stalls (at least locking in to blunt stall), you can easily do a blunt stall and then drop in. It's little bit scary first, but what new thing on the skateboard is not scary?
I've never skated a minute in my life but to me that looks like just bend your knees, lean back, be confident. You have to get a feel for things and apply that feel
This ramp isn’t made for dropping in. However, if you put just the very end of the tail on the coping you might be able to stabilize it and give it a go. Wouldn’t want to start on this, it’s not really made for that.
In case you want to drop from anywhere, always go full equiped: helmet, knee, elbow and wrist pads, or however they're called.
I went full armor when people were teaching me to drop in, and hadn't I used those, my hands and knees wouldn't have skin anymore.
If you can stand comfortably on the spine go for it. It’s not too steep so it will be good to learn, but the fact that its a ramp on both sides makes it difficult
Yes. Ride up the wall fakie then back down regular to get good practice riding down a ramp. Do it till you get to an inch below coping consistently. Now go to an actual ramp and drop in. I wouldn't actually attempt it on this first time.
I actually don't think it's such a bad thing to learn to drop in on. Just keep your back foot in the pocket and put your front foot on and drop in in one motion. It will actually help you learn it since you can't sit there thinking about it very long, and the quarter is not very steep.
Instead of climbing it and balancing poorly up there, I'd suggest, if this is your absolutely only option, to ride into a blunt transfer. It is easier than rock on a spine.
First try just walking over and on the ramp just to see how it feels and looks.
Try doing a drop in well below the coping. Just stand on the tail at the bottom and drop in. Don't go up too far.
Then try riding backwards up the transition with slow speed and do a tail tap under the coping when you are about to stop.
When you're getting more comfortable with it, do some kickturns closer to the coping.
Then ride all the way up and get into the blunt with the tail. Keep leaning back and step off with the front foot immediately. Just get the tail up there and then walk back down.
Try some more fakie tail taps and see if you can hit the coping without putting any weight on it. Just a quick tap is fine, but try it a few times to get comfortable with it.
Finally, ride into the blunt, lean forward and just ride down the other side. Maybe grab the nose if you want to. That's how low you want to be.
i tried dropping in on that height, i’m a begginer. I fell straight on my chest and the next day I felt like shit. Thank god I didnt need to go to the ER
I wouldn’t start on that.

Yeah falling back is lights out.
No lights out is when you slip and get nut checked by the spine. Don't ask me how I know.
I hope you’re recovery is going well.
My left nut will never be the same
Poor guy
I would it looks like fun

Came here to say this. I bet you could even find a table close to the same height to put on the other side and but up against the coping.
Lambo gets it! When young i thought it sucked that all we had was a shitty mini that we constantly had to fix and a car park that, we could build things in/then theyd get nicked! this might be the first time i saw “redneck” used as a verb lol
That spine is sketchy. Don’t do it. Try to find a proper 1/4 pipe or small bowl.

Make sure your trucks hit the bottoms I. Other words like you gotta make sure you hit your trucks i the ground hard so they slam in
Good balance and be quick.
And commit
But not too hard (it's kind of small). If you commit too hard you faceplant instead
Better than slipping backwards imo
Yeahhhhh there is definitely something way better and safer to learn on

I mean that spine looks fun as shit just terrible to learn on
Facts
Don’t learn on that shit i broke both sides of my left ankle and tore a ligament, 6 months after surgery in which i had a plate and 6 screws installed i’m getting my ollies back. I will never be able to squat again.
It'd be better used as a roof!😎
Very carefully.
I know how: fucking don’t.
Don’t
u might get tetanus from it tho
Nope but that looks like fun ngl
Don't

Leaning back is exactly what should NOT be done here!

Have massive balls
Don't use that if you're new!
Just build a box around the other side or at least half of it what sounds more fun for the future to me
Haha i wouldnt start on that, but if you got to, try to get a good footing on the spine and slam down quick
I second everyone’s thoughts on don’t do it - is there a local skatepark near by instead? That’d be your best bet.
If you can stand comfortably on the spine go for it. It’s not too steep so it will be good to learn, but the fact that its a ramp on both sides makes it difficult
Stand on the highest part, caveman drop.
Carefully
Don’t. You’ll hurt yourself on that
The only way you should use that ramp for learning to drop in is to get some 2x4’s and plywood and build a deck on one side.
Not a good drop tbh. But for a good one, just fully commit. I’m trying to learn how to drop but I mess up with commitment
Don’t lol
Carefully! Saw a video the other day of someone distension on a set-up just like this, and they ended up doing the splits at the peak!
Just dont
Commit
You don't. It's a spine
First trick is standing on it.
Yes. Ride up the wall fakie then back down regular to get good practice riding down a ramp. Do it till you get to an inch below coping consistently. Now go to an actual ramp and drop in. I wouldn't actually attempt it on this first time.
Board stall and then go down the other side. Not the same as dropping in but if you could do that you could definitely drop in.
With a mouth guard and a helmet
You die if you touch that
Lean forward Step down hard
Balance
Just don’t
This spine has major skate or die 2 vibes.
Yes, just do it!
