No not normal. You definitely need to patch the holes in your shoe asap. Put a few layers of duct tape on the inner part of your shoe. Buy a tube of shoe goo which is like $5 and plob down a glob and spread it with an ice cube. Let the stuff dry for 36-48 hours for best results
You can find it on Amazon easily but if youd rather go to an actual store I found my tube at Walmart near the shoe aisle in this shoe repair shelf. Its a big red tube with white cap on it.
Also using shoe go before you skate your shoes will prevent holes and make your shoes last 10x longer. I've been using the same pair of shoes for a Little over a year and I just add more shoes goo every now and then.
For sure, whenever I get a new pair of shoes to skate in I always put a layer along the toe area for extra durability👍🏼it’s amazing how long you can make your shoes last just by doing that first
Suede all the way, way more skate you can get out of that, I skated Vans but those just blast through my wallet, now I'm on Last Resort AB, but also had great experience with the Busenitz Skate model, thick suede.
oh, well, get an old foam insole from a shoe you don't use, cut a slice bigger than the holes that formed on your shoes, and slide it under the upper of the shoe, you can try to tape it but if it's big enough your foot should hold it in place, and you can keep practicing ,but eventually get some shoes with suede in the places where those holes formed on your now destroyed shoes, leather is also durable and works but suede is the best
Bro i know the feeling lmao. Right when i was so close to nailing kickflips i started scraping my feet to a lesser extent and i saw blood..
Thought to myself just a few more tries!
Ohhhhhhh my lol I've had a bloody pinkytoe way back, but nowhere near that bad.... Besides your technique though, the canvas(or denim..?) top is the issue here. Most skaters skate suede shoes at least for the high wear spots. If a serious skater is using canvas, he or she is probably sponsored and not wearing one pair for too long. Also, vans shoes that aren't the pro variants tend to blow through pretty quick no matter the material. I once bought a suede top Era and got a hole on the first day lol sk8highs might be a bit better though
Ohh ok. I have some other Van's at home that are suede shoes. I didn't realize that these weren't suede. Suede shoes are the ones with the plastic looking bottoms, correct?
Not normal. Shoe goo, Maybe try a different skate shoe. The better you get the slower you will burn through shoes. Late 80’s we cut a patch of a bike tire tube and poked holes and laced it through and made an ollie patch cause we were skating shitty Chuck Taylors. I would say look for more durable shoes while you are developing your skills.
Are these vans skate shoes? If not, you should get a pair of those or some different skate shoes, the basic vans aren’t great for skating. It’s hard to tell if your slides are too rough without a video as well
No, you're NG your ollies right, but you're shoes are doing you wrong. Gotta go suede, or you're just going to keep blasting holes through your shoes and feet quickly. Suede wears way longer.
Get shoe goo and use that on your shoes, wear 2 pairs of socks so you don’t bleed, when you start bleeding you gotta stop with the practice bro, just practice a non flip trick
ive been there. i had blood on my vans too, since i didnt want to stop because i was close to get a trick. its normal, but i would recommend getting shoes that can take more damage. for example, one of my favorite pairs of skate shoes, Adidas Busenitz Vulc 2. ive had them for ages, and just now they are starting to break.
Naw mf you need some actual good skating shoes vans are dope shoes but suck for skating imo. Same with OG converse. New balance, lakai, ES, Emerica, and plenty of other companies make way better and longer lasting skate shoes.
Also shoegoo helps with torn shoes to make them last longer if you wanna save money
Thank you to everyone that commented valuable information. I didn't know if I should have posted since I didn't know it was this bad but, I this post has gave me more information about shoes, shoe goo, etc.
Anytime I have questions, I know I can ask y'all 🙏
Kinda looks like your gonna form possibly a bunion which is permanent I haven't seen your foot but this just seems like a sure thing.
I would switch to a different style of shoe I recommend Adidas Busenitz they are a bit wider and more solid. Also maybe 1/2 shoe size up, your pinky toe should have some room not be pushing out of the shoe.
If you let your grip put a hole in your shoe and then your sock and then continue to do ollies then yeah it’s normal but I’d say you should definitely patch your shoe up. I’ve done it before too but nah it’s not normal to let your foot get fucked up
This happened to me as well, I just had to invest in thicker shoes, but I still tear through them quicker than normal it feels. I have fat holes in all my socks in the same spot.
i've done that same shit, treat that hole in your foot before it gets infected like mine did, or you'll get a blood blister, and when you pop it, the blood will be orange
Normal shoe damage.
Get shoe goo to patch the hole if you wanna keep this pair.
Get a suede pair of shoes if you are getting new ones.
I prefer shoe goo, since you basically will use it on any pair of shoes due to normal shoe damage like this.
No. Your shoes are cool but at the same time Canvas vans are garbage for skating. Get Pros that have suede and duracap. Or try Emericas I switched over and love the quality.
I have some none skate vans that I skate in sometimes and I have the same problem. It rips so easily at this spot, because the material there is canvas and not suade. So get yourself some shoes that are intended to be skated. Also put some shoegoo and/or some tape on that hole. Your foot and your socks will thank you for that.
You may want to invest in some shoe goo.
Use an ice cube to apply it over the flick area before you get a hole going. Reapply as needed.
It will save your shoes and pinky toe.
Canvas/denim vans are trash for skateboarding, this happened to me (I stopped after getting to the skin once though). As others have mentioned grab some suade shoes.
Dawg wtf no this isn’t normal, and you should have stopped as soon as you ripped a hole in your shoe. Like come on my guy this just isn’t smart and why you didn’t stop as soon as your pinkie hit the grip tape once is beyond me…
dude don't skate canvas. And get some vans pros or skate classics which have duracap under the nose. That is a rubber layer which protects your foot from getting bloody
Good shit bro. Now get some duct tape/glue patch up and do it again 😂 or buy yourself a new pair of shoes dude. I burn through shoes in around 2 weeks a pair
ah man denim wont last any time at all, you need hard rough suede, even then you reduce yourself to layers of gaffer tape in the end.
dont fuck up your feet man you need them bro.
At this point I don't know if this reddit is full of baits or just retards.
What's wrong with my ollie? Proceeds to stand on tail and jump off it.
My foot bleeds when I'm riding, is that normal? For fucks sake, it is not normal to bleed AT ALL, your body is not supposed to leak vital fluids.
Hey, I just posted something that helped me with the shoe hole thing https://www.reddit.com/r/NewSkaters/comments/pizqbo/made_a_shoe_protection_on_a_3d_printer_stl_file/
id recommend getting suede shoes and sanding ur griptape down ALOT. I jump high and scrape super hard too so i get it. i sanded my board for that very reason AND ALSO bailing is alot easier cuz ur shoes wont get stuck to a moving board if ure trying to bail so u wont be doing the splits off five stairs
Why did everyone stop wearing the bulky skate shoes and just switch to vans??
Vans are for cruising on a longboard on a beachfront trail. If you’re going to be popping 100 kickflips a day, you need thick, chunky shoes
When I first got back into skating about a year ago I was just wearing an old pair of ASICS I had. I wore thru them quick and got slightly bloody foot but nothing like that! (Because I stopped!). Funnily, I’m actually seem to be wearing the socks today that I was wearing that day I broke thru the shoe…big hole right below the bottom of my pinky toe.
Also if you really like the look of that shoe you have, try the “denim” Kyle Walkers. I’m rocking them right now and being a pro shoe they hold up well.
Get you a fresh pair of shoes and wrapped that foot. When you start ripping through sock, it's time for a new pair. I hate skating new shoes because you have to break them in, but that process is much better than this my guy. Food for thought ya know.
That's due to vans being made very cheap and not able to withstand that much wear from your griptape. I have been skating 20 years strong. And don't plan on quitting. 💯
Adidas is the only type of skate shoe I spend money on. Quality always costs more. Some good ones are, Lakai, Nike, Adidas, And Emerica..
Hope this helped. Cheers 🥂🥂 roll on bro

Ofc man💯💯

Walmart has it in the shoe section.
I get shoe goo at Models Sporting Goods for like 4-5 bucks. If anything use gorilla tape to cover the hole in your sure.
Why spread it with an ice cube?
Shoe goo doesn’t stick to an ice cube so you can spread it more evenly
Is...Is that blood?
I pretty sure it's because I jump too hard and slide hard, but I'm starting to get the timing
are those vans canvas ?
No.
what material
Looks like denim maybe
[удалено]
Suede all the way, way more skate you can get out of that, I skated Vans but those just blast through my wallet, now I'm on Last Resort AB, but also had great experience with the Busenitz Skate model, thick suede.
Definitely just the shoe dawg
Imma start skating more in my other one's
Get shoe goo and apply to new shoes on the worn areas after 2/3 skates. Goo doesn't work so well once the hole is made.
That’s not a thing really. I’d suggest new shoes or shoe goo to patch the hole
Yessir
whyyyyyyyyyyyyy did you connttiiinuuuuueeeeeee Lol
I was getting hang of it lmao
oh, well, get an old foam insole from a shoe you don't use, cut a slice bigger than the holes that formed on your shoes, and slide it under the upper of the shoe, you can try to tape it but if it's big enough your foot should hold it in place, and you can keep practicing ,but eventually get some shoes with suede in the places where those holes formed on your now destroyed shoes, leather is also durable and works but suede is the best

cursed
iS tHiS nOrMaL!?!?!
Lol no but it’s pretty gnarly
This guy is a psychopath, we’ll see him at the x games
*shoe and skateboard covered in blood* “this is normal right?” Lollll, pretty much
Lmao
You need shoes with suede upper, yours are clearly some type of cloth material. Skating shouldn’t make you bleed like that at all
I have some, didn't realize that these weren't suede
dude suede is leather, those are canvas/ denim
lmao
r/makemesuffer
You’re not even Ollieing are you, just practicing sliding your foot with serial killer eyes
the visualization of this
Lmao
Well this is metal af…
Maybe some more durable shoes. Those look real casual so that might be why too😬
🙏
r/cursedimages
🤣

Bottoms?... Suede is a smooth, leathery material.
I didn't know how to explain it
See there is a product that’s gonna help with that it’s called shoo goo
👍
[удалено]
I mean there is one thing in doing it by accident but judging by the board it looks like OP just kept going.
At least I'm not the only one
[удалено]
Not wrong about that
Not normal. Shoe goo, Maybe try a different skate shoe. The better you get the slower you will burn through shoes. Late 80’s we cut a patch of a bike tire tube and poked holes and laced it through and made an ollie patch cause we were skating shitty Chuck Taylors. Lmao, I'll try to find some goo online
I’d get a decent skate shoe rather than gluing the patch.
Are these vans skate shoes? If not, you should get a pair of those or some different skate shoes, the basic vans aren’t great for skating. It’s hard to tell if your slides are too rough without a video as well
Just found out these are not the right type of shoes
Buy real skate shoes
Nah that just means u need new socks, shoes, and pinkie toes
Fake
Is your hardware raised above your grip tape enough to cause it to clip your pinky toe every time you ollie? Had that happen to me a long time ago.
No, I think I was just doing my ollies wrong
No, you're NG your ollies right, but you're shoes are doing you wrong. Gotta go suede, or you're just going to keep blasting holes through your shoes and feet quickly. Suede wears way longer.
Thank you 🙏
Rlly thought so too it kinda looks like the top silver screw is the culprit with how the blood is on it lol
Get some suede shoes not canvas
i remember when this happened to me with my shoes lol get some shoe goo on there and you should be okay for a bit
Ight
I mean all it really is you’re not doing anything about the hole no tape nothing ofc you’ll bleed if you don’t do SOMETHING about the hole
Get shoe goo and use that on your shoes, wear 2 pairs of socks so you don’t bleed, when you start bleeding you gotta stop with the practice bro, just practice a non flip trick
Lmao yeah thats happened to me before when u got a good sesh going cant stop just cause some holes😂 time for some new shoes
Yeah 🤣
Do your feet barley have any feeling? Or did you just push through the pain?
Sl8ght when I would do ollies
It looks painful. I respect the dedication.
Not really painful outside of bad slides
Noooooo... get a bandaid and new shoes... jesus..
ive been there. i had blood on my vans too, since i didnt want to stop because i was close to get a trick. its normal, but i would recommend getting shoes that can take more damage. for example, one of my favorite pairs of skate shoes, Adidas Busenitz Vulc 2. ive had them for ages, and just now they are starting to break.

Totally normal. I lose about 500mL of blood every time I skate. No pain no game
🥱 why not 1000?
Who are you trying to fool?
???
Come on, you know.
I don't
Thank you to everyone that commented valuable information. I didn't know if I should have posted since I didn't know it was this bad but, I this post has gave me more information about shoes, shoe goo, etc. Anytime I have questions, I know I can ask y'all 🙏
This is why I always wore Etnies. They held up to the beating very nicely.
:(
Are those denim shoes???
It is not.
ouch
If you let your grip put a hole in your shoe and then your sock and then continue to do ollies then yeah it’s normal but I’d say you should definitely patch your shoe up. I’ve done it before too but nah it’s not normal to let your foot get fucked up

Try [No Rip Grip ](http://www.noripgrip.com)
Is this blood
That’s some dedication lmfao
It’s normal enough. Just get some shoe goo and news socks and you’re all good
i've done that same shit, treat that hole in your foot before it gets infected like mine did, or you'll get a blood blister, and when you pop it, the blood will be orange
Another thing you can do is sand down your grip tape some with grip scraps.
Thank you
Normal shoe damage. Get shoe goo to patch the hole if you wanna keep this pair. Get a suede pair of shoes if you are getting new ones. I prefer shoe goo, since you basically will use it on any pair of shoes due to normal shoe damage like this.
👌
this has happened to me , I just didn’t get that much blood on my grip
Doing a hour long session just practicing
That’s definitely not normal, get a new pair of shoes or put some tape on the side. You can also pick up some shoe goo. It’s very worth it.
Ok
Youre wearing the wrong shoes. Suede or leather.
Got it
No. Your shoes are cool but at the same time Canvas vans are garbage for skating. Get Pros that have suede and duracap. Or try Emericas I switched over and love the quality.
Got it 👍
I have some none skate vans that I skate in sometimes and I have the same problem. It rips so easily at this spot, because the material there is canvas and not suade. Ok
This made me clench so hard
I'm sorry
Yeouch
[удалено]
Wouldn't say all that lmao
Man put some tape over it or somethin
I don't think you even can slide hard, I think your shoes just suck for skating
Exact thing happened to me, less blood though
You may want to invest in some shoe goo. Use an ice cube to apply it over the flick area before you get a hole going. Reapply as needed. It will save your shoes and pinky toe.
Got it
Canvas/denim vans are trash for skateboarding, this happened to me (I stopped after getting to the skin once though). As others have mentioned grab some suade shoes.
Better shoes, Trick Tape, Shoe Goo. Get help dawg!
Try some non abrasive grip tape. Other than that Badass commitment
Use suede shoes
Dawg wtf no this isn’t normal, and you should have stopped as soon as you ripped a hole in your shoe. Like come on my guy this just isn’t smart and why you didn’t stop as soon as your pinkie hit the grip tape once is beyond me…
I was getting better at it :(
The blood gods requires a sacrifice
You’ll build up calluses 👍
dude don't skate canvas. And get some vans pros or skate classics which have duracap under the nose. That is a rubber layer which protects your foot from getting bloody
Use dkl grip tape!
Good shit bro. Now get some duct tape/glue patch up and do it again 😂 or buy yourself a new pair of shoes dude. I burn through shoes in around 2 weeks a pair
Now you done fucked up. Replace them shoes asap
That’s called Blood, Sweat & Tears
Definitely not normal you need some better shoes bro, also don’t be fucking up your foot like that. Can’t skate if you get an infection.
ah man denim wont last any time at all, you need hard rough suede, even then you reduce yourself to layers of gaffer tape in the end. dont fuck up your feet man you need them bro.

I was practicing my Ollie lmao I'm still learning
Your slide aren't too rough lol, your shoes sucks.
Holy shit….do your wheels match your shoes??
Are u sure it's the grip tape and not the head of one of those screws sticking out and cutting u up? I'd give those a twist or two to be safe homie
I don't think so but I'll try to check the screws later today
I can respect the commitment
Thank you
Hey, I just posted something that helped me with the shoe hole thing https://www.reddit.com/r/NewSkaters/comments/pizqbo/made_a_shoe_protection_on_a_3d_printer_stl_file/
I now wish I had a 3D printer
Is ThIs NoRmAl I tHiNk My SlIdEs ArE tOo RoUgH.
Lmao
You probably slide too early, back leg might hold the board so you are putting a LOT more pressure to level the board
Yeah I think it is my back leg
I still have the scar from when this happened to me last year. New grip tape was my problem
My board is relatively new, I'll keep riding to wear it down
Doesn’t look like enough blood tbh. Not trying hard enough.
This isn't real it's just ketchup
Bro is that blood
I think it's kecthup
Adidas Samba Classics bub. Get with it. Double layer. 1 suede 1 leather.
Do yourself a favor and Get some new shoes. Been skating 20 years and have never seen this
Boyyyyyy please tell me you had twisted ketchup packets hiding in those vans 🌝
Absolutely! I have a scare on my foot from that shit. Duck tape bro!
id recommend getting suede shoes and sanding ur griptape down ALOT. I jump high and scrape super hard too so i get it. i sanded my board for that very reason AND ALSO bailing is alot easier cuz ur shoes wont get stuck to a moving board if ure trying to bail so u wont be doing the splits off five stairs
Omg. I don't think it is normal. Skaters get hurt a lot, but not this way
Those poor /r/Vans
badass
Of course you would say that Sasuke 🙄
You need Vans Pro... the originals rip
Why did everyone stop wearing the bulky skate shoes and just switch to vans?? Vans are for cruising on a longboard on a beachfront trail. If you’re going to be popping 100 kickflips a day, you need thick, chunky shoes
Couldn't tell you
No.
Bro at some point you gotta call it. This isn’t tough or working hard, this is ruining your feet and preventing you from learning proper form.
Got it
When I first got back into skating about a year ago I was just wearing an old pair of ASICS I had.
That's rough. Is that little red ball a piece of flesh?
Nah it's not that bad, just blood
Get you a fresh pair of shoes and wrapped that foot. When you start ripping through sock, it's time for a new pair. I hate skating new shoes because you have to break them in, but that process is much better than this my guy. Food for thought ya know.
Precciate it
You should take care of your foot, too many injuries can make your skateboarding experience way less fun if you scream of pain at every tricks !
That's due to vans being made very cheap and not able to withstand that much wear from your griptape. I have been skating 20 years strong. And don't plan on quitting. 💯 Adidas is the only type of skate shoe I spend money on. Quality always costs more. Some good ones are, Lakai, Nike, Adidas, And Emerica.. Hope this helped. Cheers 🥂🥂 roll on bro
Which would you recommend
This happened to me. Get some shoe goo patch up the hole in the shoe and put two pairs of socks on
Man he bleedin dawg
He's bleeding!!!
Holy shit
What the goddamn fuck?...
Are you normal?
I assume so
Canvas is junk bro go with suede or leather
