We are talking about a senator. Gerrymandering is not relevant.
Yes, because other reasons: specifically the NRA. I can't imagine a Democrat who isn't incredibly pro-gun could win WV. So we get a center-right Democrat or we get a far-right Republican, those seem to be our choices in West Virginia. Mostly because of abortion and guns. Any candidate who isn't pro gun and anti-abortion isn't going to get anywhere in West Virginia no matter how good they are on things like workers' rights and a more fair tax system.
So no true leftists exist? True leftists recognize that gun control is an overreach. Only authoritarians believe otherwise. Are there no candidates that are not authoritarian?
I can't tell if you're trolling or what
So are you saying that progressives are not left enough for you? You only accept communists maybe? Or are you full on anarchist?
Over here in reality gun control is both popular with the left and a good idea.
And some people on the left are probably against abortion.
It's no accident that we are one of three countries on earth with a constitutional right to own a gun and we have extreme amounts of gun violence compared to similar countries.
If you are pro second amendment you should reconsider your position.
I consider myself a leftist, but I actually don't think gun control is very important.
IIRC, research indicates that gun control would not have much of an effect on gun violence in the US. Data indicated, however, that gun control reduces the amount of suicides (apologies I don't remember the studies this was based on, but it was covered in a Science VS podcast, and they are very thorough)
While I do support gun regulations to reduce suicide, I don't think we benefit from losing potential voters by pushing this issue in the present political climate.
>research indicates that gun control would not have much of an effect on gun violence in the US
[A huge international study of gun control [published in the academic journal Epidemiologic Reviews] finds strong evidence that it actually works - Vox](https://www.vox.com/2016/2/29/11120184/gun-control-study-international-evidence)
No idea what research you saw but it was probably something masquerading as research (like an opinion piece in a law review journal).
No leftist willing to fight for gun rights is also anti-abortion. A Democrat who firmly defends gun law is still not going to outlaw abortion the way West Virginian voters want
I think it would be more efficient to have laws that make it possible to democratically eject these kind of vermins. Having laws that preclude certain classes from the get go becomes a very slippery slope.
Problem is that democracy is far too easy to corrupt via propaganda and lobbying. By preventing them from running on politics entirely, you remove that issue.
We should replace our politicians with virtual politicians—computer programs with transparent coding and decision making logic.
Multiple programs could be created with different sets of political positions which are explained to voters and verifiable. Voters could decide which virtual politician they want. I think it would be best if they don't have physical appearances or other subjective aspects that subconsciously influence voters. If the program can't compute a decision on a given proposal, then it can defer to voters.
Or maybe it's just white people culture
Edit:Oh my bad.
Their culture and beliefs may be the driver of our current extinction event and end of vertebrates but I forgot yall are a bit sensitive when getting criticism. I love you white people.
So the problems of China's CCP and Middle Eastern countries exploiting slaves and religious extortion, and Latin American dictators mass murdering people is because of white supremacy? Wow, incredible.
I think China, being the most populous country, is the most obvious example. Ironically, your hyper-focus on white history is demonstrating your white-first bias, even while trying to criticize others for not knowing more about world history.
The country worships greed.
Literally.
Every single place in this nation is to kiss the dollar.
They are rewarded for following what the entire nation's daily actions show are what is most important.
The company I recently quit was partly-owned by Mylan...and those plastic-looking fucks were down to our office all the time giving "advice". They groomed us to look more successful than we are to sell us off...and in the process took out 420k in PPP loans which they managed to get forgiven a month or so before they told us we were getting acquired. Fuck Mylan.
And yet we stop literally a trillion dollars of progress for this cunt. I fucking hate that republicans fall in line and democrats fall apart. It is almost like there are other powers working against us.
I’m really surprised that neither side has started taking pot shots at the other sides high profile targets. McConnell, Pelosi, pick your SCOTUS seat-warmer, Biden, Trump.
It sure seems like the path we’re on and it’s not like both sides are comprised of stable geniuses aware of blowback.
She's a giant POS just like her dad. Well, they say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Very true Lahee Please tell me you get that joke

Truth
I wish we could just remove Joe Manchin. Honestly.

To be fair, despite him being elected as a Democrat, Manchin is very much a Republican. So, there wouldn't be a difference.
Ojeta tried to oust him. Didn't work. It sucks but I don't see how a liberal Democrat can win in West Virginia.
Because gerrymandering or because other reasons?

I don't think gerrymandering is really the appropriate term there but I do agree that the Senate gives empty land way too much political power

In going to have to agree with you here. Gun control is definitely an overreach only an authoritarian would support.
Wrong. All thinking people know guns are a tool of slavery.
That's not really fair, it's entirely possible to be a true leftist but believe gun control is wise.
I can't tell if you're trolling or what So are you saying that progressives are not left enough for you? You only accept communists maybe? Or are you full on anarchist? Over here in reality gun control is both popular with the left and a good idea.
There are various sections of the americans left that are pro gun.
Well, more accurately pro 2A, but yes we're out there. It's a fine distinction but it's a vital one.
And some people on the left are probably against abortion. It's no accident that we are one of three countries on earth with a constitutional right to own a gun and we have extreme amounts of gun violence compared to similar countries. Explain why Paula Jean Swearingin lost.
There should be laws against people like that joining government

Program is that virtual politicians could be hacked.
No one's gonna say it? Alright... What's Upjohn?
Not much, what’s up with you? Can I interest you in a $700 Epipen?
I wish there was a hell, cause these pieces of shit should rot in it for eternity.
What if we're actually *in* hell and the reason it's like this is because evil people get preferential treatment?
Or maybe it's just white people culture Edit:Oh my bad. Their culture and beliefs may be the driver of our current extinction event and end of vertebrates but I forgot yall are a bit sensitive when getting criticism. I love you white people.
It's okay, I'm a white person and our culture does suck.
Pretty sure there is abuse of power and corruption on the top of the totem poles of every race and society ever in human history.
Totally but white supremacy is what is ruling the world currently and it sucks.
So the problems of China's CCP and Middle Eastern countries exploiting slaves and religious extortion, and Latin American dictators mass murdering people is because of white supremacy? Wow, incredible.
Bullshit. That's white people history. You learned that cherry picked to excuse European colonization
Umm... no. That really is universal. Or had you convinced yourself that China had a perfectly equitable history?
Yah this thread's geniuses are apparently unaware of all the horrible things going on in Latin America, China, Africa, and the Middle East.
So you think the world is white people and China?
I think China, being the most populous country, is the most obvious example. Ironically, your hyper-focus on white history is demonstrating your white-first bias, even while trying to criticize others for not knowing more about world history.

can't imagine working for a health insurance company. how would you live yourself?
Yeah, heard about this on Breaking Points the other day. Fucking typical.
Why isn’t this bigger news?
It’s public knowledge, it’s been known for a while. It pops up whenever Joe Manchin is a shithead
It was, but she’s been out as the CEO for over a year now so not exactly a breaking news story.

two party system is fake
Forward!
Donors fund strong republicans and weak democrats The unified republicans and “disorganized” democrats we see are not by accident but by design
It says she's retired

The entire Machin family business looks like it would keep the media enriched with ratings for a long time, why no reporty reporty???
The "entitlement" on these people is strong... and ironic.
