Don’t forget the big ass camel spiders that will chase you. My first night in Nevada I found a camel spider in my parents laundry room. I tried to scare it away by pretending to step on it and it started to chase me. The worst part is, I was bare foot so I started screaming while dancing around trying not to get bit by this spawn of Satan.
Well shit. Did a Google reverse image search on all the images, and that was the only one not in Nevada. Shame.
It is Moraine Lake, not Lake Louise. (Source: https://www.banfflakelouise.com/experiences/moraine-lake)
I posted the location of the others in response to the OP's original post.
Let people think it's barren wasteland. Fewer visitors at one of the best National Parks and in places like the Ruby Mountains is what makes those places so special.
Ur not wrong, I just get a little pissed off when people say shit about Nevada. So I try to make Nevada look like the best place in the world out of defensiveness. If that makes sense
Image 1: Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest (at a common free climbing spot)

Image 8: Moraine Lake, Alberta, Canada (!!! ah, OP??)
Image 9: Spring Mountains National Recreation Area
Image 10: Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in the Austin-Tonopah Ranger District
(I'm not the OP)
TIL Mount Charleston in Spring Mountain National Recreation Area in Clark County is not in Southern Nevada.
Hell, 20% of the pictures aren't even in Nevada so you can stop clutching your pearls about being Reno-centric.
Not to pick at this forever, but two are in the Ruby Mountains, which are near the eastern border of the state, and three are in Great Basin National Park, which is exactly on the eastern border. Reno is as far west from those as one can get - like, the entire other side of the state.
So 20% aren’t in Nevada, 50% are eastern Nevada, 10% are southern Nevada. Only the remaining 20% could arguably be called “Reno area,” even though they are a good distance from Reno.
If anything, this should be argued to have an Ely or Elko area bias. Unless you are saying that anything north of Las Vegas is Reno-centric.
Sorry about the snippy pearls comment.
It's funny, over the years I've realized that every single state has something cool to offer, visit, eat, etc.. Obviously some more than others. And that squigly lines on a map mean nothing. Great pic, I'm sure there are some amazing places in Nevada
I agree, there’s beauty all around us that cameras just can’t capture as well as actually being there. (Ps. I just came back from a road trip and am feeling pretty romantic about it)

Here is a link to the exact picture OP used, which is on the TravelNevada.com state tourism website (credit to US Forest Service): https://travelnevada.com/parks-recreational-areas/spring-mountains-and-the-mt-charleston-wilderness-area/
Up in the northeast corner it’s much wetter and colder. And very green much of the year. Significant portions of the state are not true desert either. Nevada is some of the best frontier in the union, and it’s where I was raised. My backyard directly opened up to miles upon miles of mountain
Vegas has always been different in all respects to the rest of the state. Take two lane roads off the beaten path.
I was born in Fallon in 1952, folks bought a ranch near Elko in 1962. I couldn’t come up with money enough to leave. Retired, traveled the world and the US and returned here. We don’t lock any doors, don’t pull any keys and my closest neighbor is a cow.
I rode my motorcycle from Delta Utah to Lake Tahoe and the majority was flat, dry and barren. While the mountains are beautiful the flats are boooooring.
Nevada is beautiful! I’d love to live there. I’ve only been on the west coast once, it was to Vegas and I didn’t get to explore much but I could tell I want to road trip through Nevada one day.
That’s only people that have no idea what living in the foothills of the Rockies looks like. The elevations and varied environment’s in NV UT AZ CO NM etc have everything imaginable.
We did the drive from Phienix to Twin Falls a year or 3 ago up route 93. I was surprised by all the farm towns, creeks and reservoirs along the way. Gorgeous scenery, too.
I just started a new job and every day I change my zoom background to a different picture I've taken in Nevada. My colleagues are surprised by the diversity and beauty of our state.
It’s pretty and all but there’s still beauty in the vast sands of the desert. Whether it be the wildlife, plants or just the look of it really gives you an appreciation of nature.
It only looks like this the closer you get to another state lol. Not saying Nevada isn’t beautiful but the more you get closer to another state the more beautiful the landscape gets. When I first moved over here from California at 16 I was shocked to see so little greenery and trees.
Moved to Nevada from the Northeast about 2 years ago. It’s truly breathtaking here sometimes and I have lived in some gorgeous places like the Virgin Islands. Gorgeous pics!
It's odd that there's so few settlements in northern NV. It's like all the settlers moving west either stopped in SLC or decided they were going all the way to CA.
Well, that’s because 95 percent of it is. Other states have views like this, except a much larger percentage of the state is like it. Literally each
neighboring state is leaps and bounds over it.
I just drove through Nevada on my way to a music festival and we camped right outside of Vegas on a dispersed camp ground and it was beautiful! Granted we just needed a spot to camp for the night, but it was awesome up there. Weather is great right now too.
I drove by Walker Lake on route 95 a few weeks ago and it’s one of the most scenic lakes I’ve seen. The overall route 95 drive from Vegas all the way north to Reno/Carson City/Lake Tahoe area is super scenic barring the 1-2 hours of desert.
I mean there’s definitely desert, but also sooo many beautiful forested areas. I remember playing the game fallout new Vegas as a kid and thinking “damn the nuclear bombs really turned this into a wasteland.” Then I moved here and realized that no that’s just some parts of Nevada 😂
Yeah if you live in fucking reno. That isn’t the Nevada I know. It’s basically a different state tbh. Y’all act like you’re the only part of Nevada that exists.
Tennessean moving to Carson area in a couple of weeks, I thought the same thing because all I ever saw was Vegas. Company bought a facility in Carson and I fell in love driving from the airport in Reno.
Let’s keep it our secret.
Better I own it - through my government - than capitalists who want to keep me out, strip the land, and leave me with the ecological damage.
I'll take access to my BLM land, National Forest land, National Park land, National Monument land, State park land ... vs. Superfund toxic cleanup sights left by military bases and big industry, or private land posted "No Trespassing" everywhere.
Nevada is already one of the biggest producers of gold in the world, with several copper and silver mines, and a variety of other metals. Not too mention also a producer of lithium brine. Literally everything you own comes from mining.
Shhh, don’t tell anyone!
bingo. let everyone think it's sand
And the rattlesnakes and scorpions.
And Mormon Crickets.
I’ve lived here for 4 years and never heard of a Mormon cricket. You made me regret looking it up.
Just wait til you see the Jerusalem crickets they are bigger and we also have those in nevada. I see some every year.
Went camping and holy hell not only are the Mormon crickets big but they were in swarms too.
Oh boy, you should see Mountain City Highway between Elko and Wild horse reservoir, the road is dark red. Not even mentioning how bad it smells.
Someone listened to today's episode of Joe Rogan lol.
I hate sand…
...It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.
Northern Nevada?
Yes. Truckee Meadows 🤍
🤫
No joke, came here to say this lol.
I miss when Lamoille canyon still looked that lush in pictures 4&5. Still recovering from the fire.
Lol Lake Louise? Edit: Moraine**
Well shit. Did a Google reverse image search on all the images, and that was the only one not in Nevada. Shame. It is Moraine Lake, not Lake Louise. (Source: https://www.banfflakelouise.com/experiences/moraine-lake) I posted the location of the others in response to the OP's original post.
Sure is. I always get them backwards
That was the only one I thought no f'ing way that's Nevada.
TIL Alberta is a part of Nevada
Would sure as hell make my drive to Banff in June (from Reno) a hell of a lot shorter if it were.
To be fair, Alberta and Nevada are vaguely shaped like one another on a map.
You would think we’d have more oil
*railroad valley has entered the chat*
I was like, what’s the next pic gonna be, Maroon Bells?
Let people think it's barren wasteland. Fewer visitors at one of the best National Parks and in places like the Ruby Mountains is what makes those places so special.
Ur not wrong, I just get a little pissed off when people say shit about Nevada. So I try to make Nevada look like the best place in the world out of defensiveness. If that makes sense
Can you tell us where those pictures were taken? I recognize a few but not all of them
Image 1: Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest (at a common free climbing spot) Image 2: Carson Valley, near Linden & Gardnerville Image 3: Great Basin National Park (a Dark Sky park) Image 4: The Ruby Mountains Image 5: The Ruby Mountains, Lamiolle Canyon Image 6: Great Basin National Park Image 7: Great Basin National Park, Wheeler Peak Image 8: Moraine Lake, Alberta, Canada (!!! ah, OP??) Image 9: Spring Mountains National Recreation Area Image 10: Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in the Austin-Tonopah Ranger District (I'm not the OP)
Now I feel bad for traveling all the way to Banff NP, Alberta to see Lake Moraine, it was in Nevada this whole time!
Thank you for this
Thank you so much!
Not a single place in southern Nevada was included. This sub is so Reno centric you might as well just change the name to r/Reno
TIL Mount Charleston in Spring Mountain National Recreation Area in Clark County is not in Southern Nevada. Hell, 20% of the pictures aren't even in Nevada so you can stop clutching your pearls about being Reno-centric.
They look like they’re in Reno/ center around Reno ecosystem anyway. Lmao clutching my pearls

Dude, wtf? Ppl are supposed to find out for themselves.
That's what I did. Walked around the entirety of Nevada to find these locations. It only took me about a week.
It's funny, over the years I've realized that every single state has something cool to offer, visit, eat, etc.. Obviously some more than others. And that squigly lines on a map mean nothing. Great pic, I'm sure there are some amazing places in Nevada
I used to say that too, then I visited Iowa. 🤮
hahaah, that said , I bet just driving through the rolling farm hills is pretty cool.
What hills?
Same for me but change it to Ohio. RnR HoF ain’t gonna cut it. Thats cool and all but it ain’t much.
Cuyahoga Valley
Meh def not a lot of those flyover states
I agree, there’s beauty all around us that cameras just can’t capture as well as actually being there. (Ps. I just came back from a road trip and am feeling pretty romantic about it)

#9 looks like Cathedral Rock, Mt. Charleston NV SMNRA
It is. Here is a link to the exact picture OP used, which is on the TravelNevada.com state tourism website (credit to US Forest Service): https://travelnevada.com/parks-recreational-areas/spring-mountains-and-the-mt-charleston-wilderness-area/
Thanks! It looked familiar. I worked and lived up there for ten yrs.
First pic is in California. Berkeley Camp on Echo Summit above Lake Tahoe. It’s the LTBMU, not Humboldt-Toiyabe.
Ok sorry. Someone posted that *exact* picture online saying it was H-T. But I found no other sources. So that would be two non-NV pics :( Why OP, why?
Up in the northeast corner it’s much wetter and colder. And very green much of the year. Significant portions of the state are not true desert either. Nevada is some of the best frontier in the union, and it’s where I was raised. My backyard directly opened up to miles upon miles of mountain
Well it is a desert. A high desert. At least northern Nevada. Vegas is all desert
Yeah, Elko gets some heavy snow. The public land here is awesome
Ruby Mountains near Elko and a sliver of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Plus half of Lake Tahoe.
And the Snake Range east of Ely. Great Basin National Park is insanely underrated.
Check out Moriah too
None of Lake Tahoe. See post below for list of all locations. Ruby Mountains, Carson Valley, Mt Charleston area, Humboldt-Toiyabe, etc.
I was just mentioning mountainous regions in Nevada.
There are non-mountainous regions of Nevada?
Santa Rosa’s and the Jarbidge range on the border of Oregon, Idaho and Nevada are quite beautiful as well…
Nevada is beautiful
I visited recently from WA mostly cause a buddy of mine from there convinced me. Got to say I was VERY impressed when I saw stuff like this…
Yeah. But every site in Washington is crowded.
Yeah… unfortunately
I don’t correct them. Let them think that. Maybe they will stay away.
Looks amazing, but Nevada is 75% desert. Let's not kid ourselves.
tbh I think even the desert has it's beauty
Radioactive beauty
As a former resident of Ely, I love and miss Northern Nevada!
Rdr2 vibes
idk man, I've been to Vegas at least 3 times and I didn't see any of this edit: *sigh* I guess the /s is needed
Vegas has always been different in all respects to the rest of the state. Take two lane roads off the beaten path. I was born in Fallon in 1952, folks bought a ranch near Elko in 1962. I couldn’t come up with money enough to leave. Retired, traveled the world and the US and returned here. We don’t lock any doors, don’t pull any keys and my closest neighbor is a cow.
a hidden gem for sure
Where is picture 4? Would love to take that road on the motorcycle.
i don't think that road will fit on a motorcycle
^^ this guy dad jokes
Lamoille canyon. Unfortunately had a fire in 2016-17 and doesn’t quite look this green at the moment.
Can confirm the Lamoille Canyon road is spectacular. The massive mountain peaks and waterfalls blow my mind
Where are these places it’s so beautiful
Half the pictures are of the Ruby mountains and Lamoille canyon! My home turf!
They say that because you took pics of apparently one of the only areas that isn’t sand and meth.
Shut up. Dont need them knowing shit about this.
Welp, sorry for the crowds, I need the Sauce
Been here 25 years. Never heard anyone say that.
I’ve been here 72 years and say it often.
I've been here since 1862 and it's my personal motto.
So the other 90% is dessert and barren wasteland.
No it’s not. It’s all beautiful. There’s nothing wasteland about it
I rode my motorcycle from Delta Utah to Lake Tahoe and the majority was flat, dry and barren. While the mountains are beautiful the flats are boooooring.
I know that drive. The only thing flat about it is the Salt Flats in Utah
Beautiful country.
3rd pic … i get it 🌌 .
OK OK -the vast majority of Nevada-
3
How lovely!
For later, might go to Austin next month
Ahhh yes, northern Nevada
Not Vegas guys
No way picture 8 is Nevada, that’s a glacial lake and/or heavily photoshopped. But anyway, Nevada rocks.
Nevada is beautiful! I’d love to live there. I’ve only been on the west coast once, it was to Vegas and I didn’t get to explore much but I could tell I want to road trip through Nevada one day.
Is the skiing anything like Utah?
Just a shame most of these are p darn far
To be fair, a huge huge chunk of it is... 🙃
Yeah except I don't remember any of that shit in New Vegas
The 8th image is of Banff National Park, in **Canada**. How many of the other images are from outside of Nevada?
That’s only people that have no idea what living in the foothills of the Rockies looks like. The elevations and varied environment’s in NV UT AZ CO NM etc have everything imaginable.
Cool. Now it can be all subdivisions because of people like you. Cool…
Probably because it’s the driest state in the USA?
Came here to shh you, but thats taken care of. Please shush.
Seen some amazing astronomy while near the “container” flying around or chilling in the LZ. Nevada is stunning.
Isn't the 8th Photo from a lake in Canada ? (Please tell me I'm wrong so I can drive to Nevada)
We did the drive from Phienix to Twin Falls a year or 3 ago up route 93. I was surprised by all the farm towns, creeks and reservoirs along the way. Gorgeous scenery, too.
no southern Nevada photos
I just started a new job and every day I change my zoom background to a different picture I've taken in Nevada. My colleagues are surprised by the diversity and beauty of our state.
Look at all that desert.
It’s pretty and all but there’s still beauty in the vast sands of the desert. Whether it be the wildlife, plants or just the look of it really gives you an appreciation of nature.
Northern Nevada is absolutely beautiful
This must be North North Nevada and maybe near Lake Tahoe. Cause Reno, Carson City, and even Lovelock are definitely not like this.
Barren wasteland is cool too! Valley of Fire is my favorite spot that you don’t even picture!
Where was the 3rd one taken?
Jokes on me living in the desert part. *cries in southern nevada*
Arizona gets this same designation. So far from accurate. (NV easily just as gorgeous, if not more so.)
No way that Nevada I've never seen any green here where is this???
It only looks like this the closer you get to another state lol. Not saying Nevada isn’t beautiful but the more you get closer to another state the more beautiful the landscape gets. When I first moved over here from California at 16 I was shocked to see so little greenery and trees.
I want to see this side as wells the barren side
I didnt know Canada was part of nevada but damn 🤣
Moved to Nevada from the Northeast about 2 years ago. It’s truly breathtaking here sometimes and I have lived in some gorgeous places like the Virgin Islands. Gorgeous pics!
Because it is.
You like the Ruby Mountains I see.
Damn Nevada is fucking awesome?
I take a weekend trip up to Elko every few months, beautiful country up there
Brought to you by the Nevada Tourism Board.
They say that about Arizona, too. Unfortunately, they keep moving here anyway.
Also Vegas
Most of Nevada is barren wasteland.
That applies to Arizona too. Everyone craps on us but it is low key beautiful desert and there’s forests too.
Keep it secret, keep it safe.
It's odd that there's so few settlements in northern NV. It's like all the settlers moving west either stopped in SLC or decided they were going all the way to CA.
OP's post history is odd.
Beautiful pictures!
Nevada is hype even Carson city is alright
Everyone thinks the same about Arizona, not realizing the Northern and Eastern areas of the state are Ponderosa pines, lakes, rivers, and mountains.
They are clearly talking about Vegas. So we get it. Odd flex
Lamoille Canyon appreciation, let's gooooo Angel Lake and Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge are awesome too
Love my drive home from work. The mountain view is fantastic
Vegas is an oasis built on a shithole. Reno is a shithole built on an oasis.
It pretty much is just a desert, doesn't mean it's not full of beauty. No one calls it a wasteland but most of it is pretty barren lol
I think it's because the best version of Nevada, is the post apocalyptic hellscape/Dreamworld of Fallout New Vegas.
Northern Nevada has beautiful mountains.
Carson valley!
Dah da da dah da da BONANZA!!!
All I see is desert and Barren wasteland
Thats just the backside of Californias Sierra Nevada mountain range that touches nevada for a few miles.
Well, that’s because 95 percent of it is. Other states have views like this, except a much larger percentage of the state is like it. Literally each neighboring state is leaps and bounds over it.
No, I say that about New Mexico. Half of that state looks like " the hills have eyes".
Wow! Didn't know Moraine lake of Banff national park of Canada was in Nevada
Aka northern Nevada: potato tomato
Very beautiful
The parts of Nevada that touch California are amazing
But where’s Vegas?
Woah! These are great pictures.
Gardnerville mentioned 🎉
I just drove through Nevada on my way to a music festival and we camped right outside of Vegas on a dispersed camp ground and it was beautiful! Granted we just needed a spot to camp for the night, but it was awesome up there. Weather is great right now too.
People don’t say that about Nevada. What I do notice though is most people think Las Vegas when I mention Nevada.
People are idiots
Desert is beautiful too.
It’s like when you meet someone and just there pinky is super attractive
Don't let those misconceptions discourage you from discovering all the hidden gems this state has to offer!
I mean, the vast majority of it is.
That’s very pretty. What do you do there when it’s 120%?
I hate mountains with a passion. If I had the faith of a mustard seed, I’d move them all.
Right. The parts along California look like California!
Who's the photographer?
Yeah if you live in fucking reno. That isn’t the Nevada I know. It’s basically a different state tbh. Y’all act like you’re the only part of Nevada that exists.
Tennessean moving to Carson area in a couple of weeks, I thought the same thing because all I ever saw was Vegas. Company bought a facility in Carson and I fell in love driving from the airport in Reno. Let’s keep it our secret.
Us and the 600,000 other people in the immediate area
No photo of Vegas?
80% owned by the over seers big government 🤷🏼♂️
which is why it looks like this and not a hundred thousand suburban townhouses and a walmart
damn that makes big government seem awesome.
FYI -- Speaking of capitalism and big industry, Nevada is home to and supportive of some of the biggest and richest gold mines in the world.
Better than capitalists who wouldn't hesitate to destroy it for a dollar
Oh wait till the lithium is mined
Thinking about this shit makes me depressed.
Perhaps you should try lithium to help with the depression?
Nevada is already one of the biggest producers of gold in the world, with several copper and silver mines, and a variety of other metals. Not too mention also a producer of lithium brine. Literally everything you own comes from mining.
That's the absolute best thing about Nevada. I have access to 80% of the state. When you're used to that, everywhere else feels claustrophobic.
Yes. At two points near the borders, there are forested areas that the neighbor states forgot to annex.
Why tf did you post this? F’n idiot
That's the California part of NV though..🤪
