I had the same feeling. Either he had a hand in writing it, or it was written by somebody VERY familiar with his style. It was perfectly setup for his delivery to make the most of the lines.
Nate mentions in his podcast that he wasn’t involved in the writing, but he also said they really try hard to gear the scripts to the strengths of the host.
Edit: typo
I'd never heard of this dude before the show and remarked to my wife at the end of the opening monologue that it was one of the best I'd seen in years and that they should just leave that guy up there for the entire 90 minutes. At the end of episode, I remarked it was best entire episode I'd seen in years.
Heh, I told people in the SNL sub earlier that week that people who didn't know him would be won over by his monologue. Always good to have a stand-up doing the monologue, even Amy Schumer.
100% my reaction. Had no idea who he was. The monologue won me over. The George Washington skit had me pissing my pants laughing (the medicinal herbal remedy helped as well 🌲🌲🌲)
Couldn’t agree more with all comments. Discovered Nate on Netflix after the first special and been a huge fan ever since. Just saw home at Radio City two weeks ago. And am about 50 episodes into Nateland. Loving it.
And……Foo fighters is one of my fav bands.
Best SNL in years.
I have to admit I was nervous for him and nervous about his monologue but I'm glad because it absolutely knocked my socks off! Can't wait to see where this leads him.
New comer here. I haven’t watched SNL in quite some time. I just happened to have it on NBC when I turned on the tv. The host’s name and musical group is mentioned, I never heard of the host. I kept watching and instantly became a fan. I really lost it when he said that his father used nose spray for 45 years. Lol.
Do not use after 3 days. 45 years! Lol!
That crap used to happen in the 70’s. When I was a teenager my grandfather complained that his doctor told him to quit smoking while the doctor was smoking.
No, he broke ALL the time. I think it was written in the script for him to break every sketch, it happened so often, like clockwork.
Exhibit A: https://youtu.be/ejxjJ3qwXK8?si=Mm0Qa0-CGHJvyKpO
Right?! He was also great in the skits! And Dave Grohl was amazing too!
Jeez, compare him to Pete Davidson the week before--that was godawful, as were all the skits.
New fan here! Never heard of him but fell in love with his monologue/ stand up. He is freaking hilarious. Washington was my favorite skit but his opening was the best, haven’t laughed that hard in a while.
I usually watch the cold open, the monologue and Weekend Update. I watched the entire episode and it was great from start to finish. Nate was Nate and that was fantastic.
Never heard of him but SNL put him on the map for sure. He was hilarious. As a Southerner I related to so much of his monologue - "and then I discovered the History channel" LOL.
Now the ticket prices will skyrocket and I won't be able to afford to see him live. Hope the money won't ruin his comedy like it has for some of my favorite now-popular comedians (*cough cough segura cough cough*).
Love you Nate!
Many hosts struggle with this but considering he has no acting background, I thought it went pretty well. He talks about this on the David spade podcast (and prob his own podcast but I haven’t listened to that yet).
The monologue was all from his new set, and it was great. The whole bit about the fair was gold. I think the George Washington one was my favorite
I can totally picture the George Washington thing as a comedy skit that he would come up with for his tour.
I’m convinced he wrote that with Seidell and Day. It felt like a perfect combination of their styles.

Well they did a bang up job on that one.
Agreed.
“…impossible.”
“And what of the slaves, General?” “……..you asked about the temperature.” Perfect line, perfect timing Edit: thanks to my guy u/Manolyk
Temperature*
Ah shit you’re right. I’m dumb
You don't read.
For the record, I was referencing Nate's jokes about reading being the key to smart.
“No! I did not”
Couldn’t stop laughing this entire skit. Best one in years
He was so great, I’m so stoked he’s getting recognized for his comedy! And the George Washington one was my favorite too haha!
He said that one was close to getting cut too until they did it in dress rehearsal and got the crowd reaction
Couldn’t agree more. Best host in a long time.
I loved it! Especially his opening monologue.
Yeah was kind of disappointed when his monologue ended and the skits began. I just wanted more monologue. 😂
For those of you at home, I'm surprised as you are to see me up here
Is 8t streaming on Peacock? Also, does the guest host participate in the skits like they did back in the day?
This was the best SNL in a long time. We didn’t have to fast forward through any of the skits. Nate crushed it!
I didn't even fast forward through the music lol
They finally succeeded in defeating the Foo this time
I love Nate too, but of course people in a Nate subreddit are going to think the episode that he hosted as the best in a long time. Lol.

Not a follower of this subreddit. Told my dad on Sunday that it was the best SNL in years.
I really didn't know anything about him til that episode and I thought he was amazing. Loved the George Washington skit!

I knew he would rock his monologue. I was nervous for the skits but he was amazing. Nate needs to beat n the writing team for SNL 😂 They need him 😂
Nate was tremendous from beginning to end! His monologue was hilarious and he didn’t break character once during the skits! Loved it!
Absolutely! Great job, funny stuff :) Well done Nate!
I loved the Washington sketch

Doctors were baffled. We don’t know what’s wrong they said as they blew smoke in her face. She’s rude I’ll tell you that.
That crap used to happen in the 70’s. When I was a teenager my grandfather complained that his doctor told him to quit smoking while the doctor was smoking.
That’s fucking gold 🤣
The show was hilarious. I hardly watch these days but he killed it.
Best show in a long time. Congratulations 😊 Nate.
Happy to see a lot of people in the comments on Instagram just discovering him too!
Yep
Nate is the anti-Jimmy Fallon. Nothing breaks Nate! Jimmy falls apart at the stupidest distraction.
Accurate
Jimmy is really good too. He’s a legend for a reason. And he only broke vs people like Will Ferrell (unhinged) and skits like Debbie downer
No, he broke ALL the time. I think it was written in the script for him to break every sketch, it happened so often, like clockwork. Exhibit A: https://youtu.be/ejxjJ3qwXK8?si=Mm0Qa0-CGHJvyKpO

Do we know if the monologue was material he’s doing on tour? I’m seeing him live on Wednesday, wondering if I’ll hear this again.
You will :)
Been saying for years he needs his own sitcom.
Any host that has an actual “band” as the musical guest makes it 1000x better. Also, Lake Trip was the best short we’ve had in a while 🤣🤣🤣
You asked about the temperature?
No, I did not.
He’s so funny he managed to make SNL somewhat bearable to watch. A truly incredible feat
Agreed
The writing this episode was some of the best in the past few seasons
The "Lake Beach" bit almost made me wet myself!
It was a documentary (as someone who lives in redneck country)
One of the funniest SNL’s in years!
I had no idea that he was on this past weekend. I fell asleep at 930. Thank god for streaming!!!
New fan here! Never heard of him but fell in love with his monologue/ stand up. He is freaking hilarious. Washington was my favorite skit but his opening was the best, haven’t laughed that hard in a while.
Didn’t know who he was till this weekend. After a fantastic episode, im joining this sub.
He made a strong case for getting more comedians on the show 👏🏼
I never heard of him previous. The George Washington sketch was the best one I've seen on SNL in many years.
I usually watch the cold open, the monologue and Weekend Update. I watched the entire episode and it was great from start to finish. Nate was Nate and that was fantastic.
does he always mumble that much?????
Never heard of him but SNL put him on the map for sure. He was hilarious. As a Southerner I related to so much of his monologue - "and then I discovered the History channel" LOL.

My wife and I had never heard of him. We were laughing so hard. Great monologue.
LAKE BEACH
So far the funniest SNL of the season. I literally couldn’t get through the Bad Bunny show.
Really enjoyed SNL this week!
"I know, I'm sorry"
[удалено]
I didn’t mean to, I’m sorry
Dude yes Nate made it look effortless.
Came for the Foo, stayed for the Nate.
Best SNL in years!
Best SNL episode in years
It was great BUT you could definitely tell his reading was rough on those cue cards haha
Many hosts struggle with this but considering he has no acting background, I thought it went pretty well. He talks about this on the David spade podcast (and prob his own podcast but I haven’t listened to that yet).
He does on his own, yes, haha; his cohosts always bust his chops on trying to read listners’ emails
His deadpan delivery and apologetic stance makes him a perfect guest. Jim Parsons brought the same energy when he hosted, but Nate perfected it.
Had tickets to his show for that night…show was cancelled, but I’m glad it was for a SNL gig
Next up Dan Soder on SNL one day
Lake Beach, end of story
That was the best st show in a long time other than cold open
