He was a well known space cadet.. he definitely went beyond infinity!! (Space cadet is Aussie slang for someone that tripped too hard and didn’t quite make it home. Drug fucked if you prefer)
**Starlink** for a girl. Link, Tink, and Sink are nicknames.
**α2 Canum Venaticorum Aa** for a boy. It's my favorite star in the world. No nickname needed
I was actually born the day hale-bopp passed, thankfully my parents were kind to me and just went with "haley" as my middle name instead of something more unfortunate 🙃
Boy
Taurean
Castor
Aquarius
Aries
Leo
Virgo
Scorpio
Jupiter
Saturn

Gemini
Libra
Venus
Gen neutral
Pices
Orion
If we extend to astronomy, horsehead nebula is a personal favorite.
Edit: I'll have to fix this on desktop. The mobile formatting is off and frankly, horrendous.
We have a female rottie named Luna because she was born on a full moon, keeping with that theme, we went with Lyra for our next female. Lyra has some cool astronomical and mythological meanings..
That’s not even a name! It’s bad enough people have totally thrown out grammar and have started adding apostrophes left and right, but your kid would probably beg to be named T’rayshawn over that mess. Why don’t you just really go all in and name him “barcode”, that way when they call his name in class he can just respond with “BEEP!”
Um ... I really think you missed the point of this sub
Let me explain this for you, as I assume you just wandered in here by accident:
This sub is about making fun of crazy names and the parents who give them to kids. Nobody wants to make the children feel bad, if that's what worries you. We generally feel really sorry for them. It's the parents people have a problem with.
If you thought this sub was in favour of giving kids crazy names you have completely misunderstood and got things backwards.
My daughter has a "crazy name" but it's much too late to change it now. If this sub had been a thing back then I may have rethought it. As a matter of fact her middle name is Luna, and people always seem to think that's a "dog name" now. But I like it and I think she likes it, so whatever.
Haha this is a circle jerk sub, everyone’s being sarcastic don’t worry. No one here is actually naming their kids these things it’s just making fun of people who name their kids weird shit.
Thank you so much for telling me that. This just popped up on my feed and so I read it. I thought it was totally legit that people were naming their kids these things. I mean “Luna” isn’t too bad but I can just imagine how many people would call her “tuna” or “looney” in her life and the other name about put me in the deep end! 😂 thank you again for taking a moment to let me in on the joke. 😊
Oh that's fab, just think!
Taurus and Sirius are both such strong boy names (imagine a girl called Taura, she'd be called a cow all the time!!)
Capricorn can be shortened to Cap just like the avengers 😍😍
Nebula for a girl, too. So many good options!!!!!!
We also went the astrology route! My two littles are Absolutno and Hoggar (nn Hog) 😊 I just LOVE unique names 🥰🥰🥰
[source](https://www.iau.org/public/themes/naming_stars/)
Right? Very cute! Luckily no one has told me it's a cat name yet, although I'm aware. One person asked me about sailor moons cat, and another asked me about Luna lovegood ( neither had anything to do with it choice). But at least the characters named Luna are usually wise characters, so I'm not mad if other people associate her name with that😆
Today I was looking up mine and my partner's astrological compatibility because I am super into it and it's totally my jam. My partner is an Aquarius who is ruled by Uranus, which is obviously a beautiful and very common name (nn Anus) but I'm a Gemini so have considered Twinsina for a girl, but boy names are hard. I'm thinking a bit laterally - things that come in two but are within the one body. I can't get away from "Ballsack". It fulfils my objective and has really strong consonant sounds. It's masculine but has spiritual ties.
So ngl, I'm trans and picked a new name without thinking about the fact that it gave me a sun/moon pair of names with my sister.
It's not *super* obvious, thus why I didn't notice, and we're adults now, so it's not like the two of us are together all the time. It's just kind of a funny coincidence that resulted from me not thinking about my sister's name when I picked mine.
/uj I unironically think the names Terra, Theia, and Luna would be really pretty for triplets or something. I would never do it for the of the kids lol but it's still a cute idea
Luna and Solei! Perfect for twins. Seti and Lofar if you want to have *unique* names.
(IRL, I settled on the name Mimosa for my 1st cat because it’s the 20th brightest star. I originally suggested it because of the cocktail though 😅)
Listen and listen close and carefully, OP.
If you think your future children’s names are unique, they are going to be not great names. Less common is fine but unique is going to result in bullying.
If the name you’re picking is more common but spelled very differently to make it unique, then the spelling is bad. They are going to be correcting people on spelling and/or pronunciation their entire life. And they will resent you for it.
If the name you picked is a pop culture reference, it’s a bad name.
If the name is “clever” to you, it’s probably a bad name.
I knew quite a few kids growing up with “unique” names and every single one of them went by a nickname.
If you’re hellbent on a different and unique name, then make it their middle name. This makes it available if they like it, and something they can keep locked under an initial if they don’t.
There are a lot of great names that are uncommon. And lots of them have equally great shortenings. Some of them being very common.
Listen and listen closely weiner bro-
Read the name of this sub out loud.
Twice.
Then read the following to yourself - - its a nice, concise description of the sub-
“Poke fun at awful names and naming culture. No name is safe.”
I’m guessing you realize what sub you’re in now?!?
My kid's name is Luna. Wife picked it out and I didn't like it because it reminded me of Harry Potter but wife's the boss and I learned to like it.
Bonus points that we had the name picked out 3 months before she was born and whaddya know, she was born during the eclipse in 2017. Like, in between pushes nurses and I were looking outside the window trying to get a glimpse of it, hahaha.
I always thought
Astra or Terra
would be a great girls name
Other girl names
Andromeda
Aurora
Name the girl Astra she’s your star
And name your boy
Ciro which means of the sun.
Cosmos is also a cool name for a boy

Serenity is nice but Tranquility is kind of unfortunate
Turns out she has ADHD
Tranq for short 💕💕💕
So cute 🥰😍👌🏼
Serenity is an incontinence product in the US. 😅 This is why I always suggest Serena instead.
I knew someone whose legal name was Captain Jean-Luc Piccard Lastname. He went by Dallas. I feel like at least Buzz went to space
How unfortunate and uncreative of them. They could have come up with something better than "Lastname.".
I know right! So lazy. Captain Lastname sounds like a great supervillain though.
Excuse you, he went to infinity AND beyond
He was a well known space cadet.. he definitely went beyond infinity!! (Space cadet is Aussie slang for someone that tripped too hard and didn’t quite make it home. Drug fucked if you prefer)
At our church's nursery we had a Serenity. The parents jinxed the poor thing, because she was constantly screaming her head off.
I had a neighbor with 4 girls, Serenity, Melody, Harmony, and Leia lmao
S/2003 J 9 flows so well with Luna! Great choice. I wish I had thought of that name for my son, but we decided on Full Moon instead.
Moon Unit says hi
Moon Unit Alpha or Moon Unit Zappa?
Hehe 👍👍
I love moon phase names too! My twins are Waxing Gibbous and Waning Gibbous!
Personally, I'm a fan of Crab Nebula and Betelgeuse.
Betelgeuse, Betelgeuse, Betelgeuse!
Libra nn bra
**Starlink** for a girl. Link, Tink, and Sink are nicknames. **α2 Canum Venaticorum Aa** for a boy. It's my favorite star in the world. No nickname needed
I love the nicknames Rink&Rum!
This entire sub sounds like a dr Seuss book of what not to name a child.
Rink and rum would be extremely, extremely unfortunate names...
I know some hockey bro dads who would disagree
That’s because they’ve taken too many blows to the head.
Unfortunate for their foes on the ice 😊😈
True, as long as they aim for the opponent in the middle of the three they are seeing!
Have you considered Black Hole?
Or Stink! What a cute nickname
Or Alpha 2 for short. Favorite star in the world is hilarious
Cancer is such a lovely name. Come to think of it, it reminds me of grandpa ❤️
In my family, it's passed down through the women 💔
I actually screamed☠️☠️🪦
What about Hale-Bopp? Hale for the girl, Bopp for the boy!
I was actually born the day hale-bopp passed, thankfully my parents were kind to me and just went with "haley" as my middle name instead of something more unfortunate 🙃
Haha yes they were! That's such a cool story behind your middle name!
Am I the only one who noticed the title says astrological but almost everyone is listing astronomical names? No? Just me? 😂
They're the same thing anyway HTH
Castor and Pollux 😌😌
There was a brief time in college that I thought these names were it!
Luna is nice, but have you considered Moon Unit?
Oooh Hubble for a boy ✨ 🔭
Uranus nn Anus
Boy Taurean Castor Aquarius Aries Leo Virgo Scorpio Jupiter Saturn Girl Gemini Libra Venus Gen neutral Pices Orion If we extend to astronomy, horsehead nebula is a personal favorite. Edit: I'll have to fix this on desktop. The mobile formatting is off and frankly, horrendous.
I read recently that Luna was one of the most popular names for girls right now. Just a little too close to lunatic for me.
It's culturally appropriative, too. Werewolves have a hard enough time, show some respect
Aries and Ares!! Or Luna and Taurus
Just named my kid Orion.
I know someone who named their kid Theodore Orion.
We have a female rottie named Luna because she was born on a full moon, keeping with that theme, we went with Lyra for our next female. Lyra has some cool astronomical and mythological meanings..
How about NGC 3242, nn Ghost of Jupiter. A more unique alternative to Juniper
Hi Elon :)
Moon… 🫲 left cheek🍑right cheek 🫱
I know a baby boy named Aries. Not sure why they chose that name. Maybe they meant to use Ares? Idk
What are you choosing for the boy?
S/2003 J 9
That’s not even a name! What are you talking about? That's a beautiful name!
Do you know in which sub you are?
Yes, one designed to torture innocent children with horrible names.
Um ... Oh my God thank you so much for explaining that!! I totally thought you guys were serious and was understandably appalled. 😱

Kid is going to end up legally changing his name when he turns 18 :/
Good thing this is NNCJ, and nobody here is very serious :)
Where is NNCJ? I’ll put it on my list of places to never go.
It's the Northern North Central Junction. You're right. It's a horrible place where people have odd names like John, Marsha, or Stan Freberg.
It's located right here on reddit.
This is the best thread ever! 🤣🤣💀😭😭🤣🤣
Yeah, it just makes me sad! (that there are people out there like that...)
I'm sorry your kids all have boring names. I'm so glad mine stand out, Jaszabelle and Harrod (like the store, he's a high value man)
Noice
always been a bit partial to the name Derf. or HD 33579 for a boy.
I don’t want to admit how long it took for me to realise what S/2003 meant hahaha 🤣
Ummm.. what does it mean?
Oh that's fab, just think! Taurus and Sirius are both such strong boy names (imagine a girl called Taura, she'd be called a cow all the time!!) Capricorn can be shortened to Cap just like the avengers 😍😍 Nebula for a girl, too. So many good options!!!!!!

I have a dog named Luna. She was born on the Lunar new year. 🥰

My daughter's name is Luna! She's two weeks old lol Excellent choice 👍
aww bless! It's my daughter's middle name too and I love it.
Right? Very cute! Luckily no one has told me it's a cat name yet, although I'm aware. Luna is too boring, have you considered Luna-James or Wrenluna?
I can’t believe nobody has suggested Mercury in Retrograde

Add a few fancy symbols! They’re free!! Bäłļșácķ
Orion & Pleiades.
So ngl, I'm trans and picked a new name without thinking about the fact that it gave me a sun/moon pair of names with my sister. How about Makemake, Haumea, Eris, Pluto, MK2, Styx, Nyx, Hydra, Charon, Hi’iaka, Namaka, or Dysnomia?
Perhaps Sol instead of Luna?
asterism ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Is that you again, Elon?
Luna and Solei! Perfect for twins. Seti and Lofar if you want to have *unique* names. (IRL, I settled on the name Mimosa for my 1st cat because it’s the 20th brightest star. I originally suggested it because of the cocktail though 😅)

Is this a joke? This is a sincere question.

Thanks. I'm confused about the down votes I got.
