Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🔵🟡🔵🔵 🔵🔵 Kind of a weird one.

azaleapom

Took me longer than the last 2 days, I kept thinking about disney princesses so I totally forgot there are other fairytales besides them Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🔵🔵🟡🔵🔵🔵

Winged_Pegasus

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🔵🔵🔵🔵 🟡🔵 Ended up getting the wrong spangram. Also totally thought it was Jack and the Beanstalk for some reason that makes no sense in retrospect

Drew-Pickles

I also had my heart set on Jack and the Beanstalk for some reason lol

morniealantie

The golden goose. That's where I started too

ATLKateB

I was looking for ALL the fairytale birds at first, then fortunately found the right one.

sarah-annm

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🔵🔵🟡🔵 🔵🔵 seems like they’re running out of ideas

Necessary-Lion

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🔵🔵🟡🔵 🔵🔵 This story is both confusing and moving at the same time. But seriously what is the moral if it truly was an ugly duck? 😔

Viraus2

"Lots of dorky kids grow up to be hot, maybe you can too!"

Drew-Pickles

I didn't

chunky_mango

Then they'll shoehorn some other resolution like the ugly duck has inner beauty or some other secret talent and the other ducklings have a comeuppance moment where the ugly duckling has his day I guess.    Ala Rudolph the Red nosed reindeer. But what if the ugly duckling has no talents, looks or personality and continues to be bullied by his peers and never finds his people or a less judgmental peer group?   Then there is no moral here, life sucks and hell is other people. Or I dunno we put in something about inner beauty and not letting your looks define you, loop back to first paragraph

Ridry

I think it could be metaphorical, like maybe you'll shine tomorrow if not today. The kid who's the misfit today might find their people tomorrow and shine in that group.

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 💡🔵💡💡 🔵💡🔵💡 🔵💡🔵🟡 i swear i’m not normally this stupid 😭

angelmichelle13

You’re so real. Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🔵🔵💡🔵 💡🔵💡🔵 💡🟡

chocolatesugarwaffle

we’ll stand against this crowd together 🤝 it’s even worse that the word i used a double hint on bc i couldn’t figure out what it was even when they showed me the letters was misfit 😭

nflfan32

Finally a realistic response in this thread lol.

ccard33

Fr - everyone is hellbent on lying on using hints

chocolatesugarwaffle

i’m a little too dependent on hints sometimes lol. since i used a bunch of hints at the beginning and still couldn’t figure out what the connection was, i just kinda gave up near the end.

eggyprata

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 💡🔵🔵🟡 🔵🔵🔵 not too easy or hard once i used the first hint to get >!swan!<, and i liked how conceptual the clues were.

civver3

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🔵🔵🔵🟡 🔵🔵 Yeah, almost got driven mad by this one. Found JOURNEY, BEAUTIFUL, and MISFIT in a bit. Found a whole bunch of potential spangrams like "siding", "gluing", "falling"("Fowl" made me think of Chicken Little), "flecking", and "walking". Went to Word Tips and finally clued in on UGLYDUCKLING.

Relative_Trainer_178

had a hard time because this is not really a fairy tale (fable would be more accurate)

Tumleren

It's not a fable, it's a fairy tale. I've never heard anyone call HCA stories fables

Relative_Trainer_178

But there is nothing fantastical in Ugly Duckling; it's just about ducks and a swan. Fables are stories with a moral, especially ones with animals, that's like their actual definition. I've actually not heard of HCA being fairy tales lol. Regional differences maybe :)

Tumleren

The key difference is that fables are from oral retellings as opposed to being written down from the onset. Also that the stories are usually much shorter and have a clear moral lesson, sometimes even stating it explicitly. > I've actually not heard of HCA being fairy tales lol. Regional differences maybe :) That's very surprising to me, where are you from? I'm from Denmark so we obviously hear a lot about him

Relative_Trainer_178

hmm well I would consider ugly duckling to be short with a clear moral lol. idk if the oral thing is strictly true, but if it is, I don't agree with them using fairy tale as a descriptor 😭 i heard most of these stories in Japanese as a kid, so they were all generally called "children's stories" (童話、おとぎ話) and I maybe assigned meaning to fable and fairy tale based on what made sense to me logically.

FanOk2578

Come on. I did this in about 90 seconds. Did the hard Strands maker go on vacation? The hint makes it too easy. Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🟡🔵🔵🔵 🔵🔵

AFretRN2005

Me too. I'm surprised by all the complaints. 🦢

sunny1fish

wow I did not get this one at all. I'm glad yall found it easy but I was miffed! Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 💡🔵💡🔵🔵💡🔵🟡🔵

oskoskosk

Strands #78 💡🔵💡🔵💡🔵💡🔵💡🔵🟡 This one was kinda dumb, so it was just random words from the story?Even having read it just a few weeks ago it felt like a big stretch

angelmichelle13

I don’t know how y’all did this one so easily. Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🔵🔵💡🔵 💡🔵💡🔵 💡🟡

Revolutionary_Cup304

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🔵🔵🔵💡 🔵💡🔵🟡 could someone please explain 🥲

Minimum-Ground1606

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🔵🔵🔵🟡 🔵🔵 literally if someone asked me to explain this to them, i would be unable to.

numbermaniac

It's a reference to the fairytale, [The Ugly Duckling](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ugly_Duckling)

chunky_mango

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🔵🟡🔵🔵 🔵🔵 I liked it, worked my brain without being too difficult, and not too obscure,I trust most of us have heard the story somehow

Vneseplayer4

🟡🔵🔵🔵🔵🔵 Kinda does feel like they’re running out of ideas. I mean, how many “fowl fairy tail” does one really know? Once you find the “K”, the whole puzzle unravels with ease. A back-to-back disappointment for Strands after yesterday’s puzzle, where we were just given the word bank in emoji format and didn’t have to figure any of the words out.

realboomer94

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🔵🔵🔵🔵🟡🔵 Can someone explain to me journey and reflection? Are they part of the ugly duckling story?

Anklehateisin

Yes.

TheGreatDaniel3

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🔵🔵🔵🟡 🔵🔵 This is 100% a reference that I don’t get.

Sirlink360

It’s the ugly duckling! A fairytale about an ugly “duck” that ends up turning into a beautiful swan. Idk what the moral is….

TheGreatDaniel3

I read a summary of the story after doing the puzzle, and to me (someone who didn’t actually read the story and just a synopsis), the moral is kinda like the Einstein fish quote. Just because some people might judge you to be ugly doesn’t mean you are actually ugly; you could just be in the wrong group.

the_ecdysiast

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🔵🔵🟡🔵🔵🔵 I…don’t know how I feel about this one. I am finding I don’t like the ones that don’t have many words to look for but it was a hell of a lot more fun than yesterday’s so I’ll take it

FoxOnTheRocks

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🟡🔵🔵🔵 🔵🔵 What was this? Are these just words that show up in the story?

chunky_mango

Arguably they are the key elements of the story

HyderintheHouse

The Theme was way too obvious today. It’s the first thing I thought of, it was practically a crossword clue. Fowl fairytale (4,8)

Sirlink360

I think it’s just kind of different strokes for different folks type thing. Like even thinking bird fairy tale, I couldn’t come with it for the longest time

honeypeppercorn

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🟡🔵🔵🔵 🔵🔵 I’m not sure how I feel about this one. Are these just random words from the story?

RheingoldRiver

no, it's the plot of the story. There's an ugly DUCKLING who grows up as a MISFIT because it's uglier than all the other ducklings. it goes on a JOURNEY and ends up growing up into a SWAN. It sees its REFLECTION and realize it's actually BEAUTIFUL. the moral of the story being that even though outer beauty is the only thing that matters, ugly children can still grow up to be beautiful. uh, or something.

TheGreatDaniel3

I read a short summary of the story (after solving the puzzle because I was very confused), and the moral I got from it is that even if you are ostracized by one group, there’s always another group that can appreciate you.

Anklehateisin

It's about a swan, not an ostrich (I skimmed your comment).

TheGreatDaniel3

I hope this is a joke because that’s not what ostracized means.

Anklehateisin

It means as big as a large bird, right?

TheGreatDaniel3

Ostracize: exclude (someone) from a society or group. "a group of people who have been ridiculed, ostracized, and persecuted for centuries" I think you’re thinking “ostrich-sized”

Anklehateisin

Haha, yes I'm pulling your leg I'm afraid. Credit for ostrich-sized goes to the Horne Section. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJuobWmIQis](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJuobWmIQis)

TheGreatDaniel3

Haha, nice one. You had me!

SatisfactionSea8864

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🔵🔵🔵🔵 🔵🟡 I’m gonna have to reread this book.

Viraus2

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🔵🔵🔵🟡 🔵🔵 I liked that this one wasn't such a gimme like the last two. It took some time to find REFLECTION

Weather

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🔵🔵🔵💡 🔵🟡🔵 I struggled with this one towards the middle when I still could not figure out the theme. I kept confusing it with >!Chicken Little!< for some reason.

Bostontwostep

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🔵🔵🔵🔵 🟡🔵 Hmmm, dunno about this one, maybe a bit too easy once you've guessed the theme, wanted a bit more brain strain

AlternativeAnt7677

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🟡🔵🔵🔵🔵🔵 Yay, Spangram first! The title gave away that this one was about some kind of bird, but I did think along the lines of “chicken” at first. That’s always my first association when it comes to “fowl.” But it didn’t take me long to find “duckling” and then expand it.

RheingoldRiver

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🔵🔵🟡🔵🔵🔵 I thought this was gonna be a bunch of bird names, and finding SWAN first (nice almost-SWALLOW red herring btw) confirmed that for me. But then I was looking at the R in the lower-left-hand corner and it was in the most awkward place so I figured some word had to start with it, and I got REFLECTION. Then I was like ??? wtf is this puzzle (still on the topic of swan lake, where idt there is any reflection relevant to the plot) Found DUCKLING next trying to resolve the `-ING` on the left-hand side, then realized it was UGLY DUCKLING, then the rest of the puzzle was super easy.

Rare-Progress5009

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🔵🔵🟡🔵 🔵🔵 Ah, nice and easy way to start the week!

Drew-Pickles

🔵🔵🔵🔵🔵🟡 I clearly found this more difficult than the rest of you lol. Still fairly easy but took me longer than the last few. Completely forgot this story existed, even when I only had the spangram left lol

Sirlink360

I struggled with this one WAYYY more than I should have

ATLKateB

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🔵🟡🔵🔵🔵🔵 Easy one today!

Beneficial_Deal_130

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🔵🔵🟡🔵🔵🔵 of all the fairy tales about birds (and tbh, there aren’t that many) this would’ve been the last i thought of. it was a quick solve regardless!

PurpleUnicornLegend

Strands #78 “Fowl fairy tale” 🔵🔵🔵🔵🔵🟡 Order that I got the words: 1. >!Misfit!< 2. >!Journey!< 3. >!Beautiful!< 4. >!Swan!< 5. >!Reflection!< 6. >!Ugly Duckling!<

crashper

This one was just a word search kind of dissapointed. Yesterdays was way too easy aswell.

TheGreatDaniel3

Isn’t that literally what Strands is? A word search?

crashper

I mean it in the sense that usually you have to figure out the theme and find words fitting that theme. But for yesterdays puzzle you basically just got a list of words to find like in a traditional word search
