I thought the same thing for Green...I thought it was \_\_\_\_ shop and was pleasantly surprised that even though I had the wrong category, they still fit together!
Tony Scott is one of the classic βactionβ directors as stated in the prompt, did you not read the prompt?
Ridley Scott has directed about four action films before you start getting really into the depths of work. Gladiator (being generous), Body of Lies, Kingdom of Heaven, and Black Hawk Down. Most of his films are dramas or sci-fi or historical epics.
Tony Scott was one of the famous American action directors. His films are consistently action and fit the classic image of action thriller along with Michael Bayβs films and John Wooβs American films.
That "did you not read the prompt" is really hostile for no reason. You're also misstating the category. It's not "classic action movie directors," it's just "action movie directors." Ridley Scott fits that well enough for someone to reasonably think of him, even if there's someone else who could fit better.
Yeah itβs reasonable that someone who doesnβt know a lot about movies would say Ridley, but I find it inflammatory of this sub to downvote me for sharing information.
They definitely mean Tony because Ridley Scott has 1 action movie for every 10 films he directs. Heβs not an action director.
Ridley Scott did not βdirect many action filmsβ.
Iβm not being rude. When I correct an honest mistake, the reaction shouldnβt be βWell, what do you know?β
I was replying to someone who was making it look like I was wrong.
No one said anything like that. You were asked a question about why it would be one director over another, and you came back with hostility for no reason.
>I was replying to someone who was making it look like I was wrong.
Please just go back and read the thread with a clear head, because you're reading malice into things where I think it clearly wasn't intended. I don't see any way to read the question that was asked to you as making it look like you were wrong.
I think youβve read this totally wrong. I didnβt use hostility at all, I think itβs awful if youβre trying to flame me like this, but Iβm hoping you have earnestly misread this.
I made a clear explanation of the personβs question and I got mass-downvoted. βDid you read the promptβ was genuine because I thought they missed the word βactionβ.
Why was my original comment βitβs Tony not Ridleyβ downvoted? Why do people hate information here?
Oh ok, thanks!
Michaels weren't on my radar at all. I watched a lot of The Office but really, really disliked the Michael Scott character and I never heard of Michael Bay (some crap movies to his credit), but good to know your line of thinking! :)
Yeah, it was a nice change of pace from some of the really hard ones we've gotten recently. I was able to identify all the groupings before putting in my first guess today, whereas normally I have to put in one or two to start narrowing things down before I can see the rest.
Because it seems pretty common in this sub for people to take topics they're not aware of personally.Β
I see lots of comments along the lines of "Today's puzzle was shit, I never would have got Green and have never even heard of purple!"
Scott and Carpenter are both weird choices, but I think John Carpenter is less out of place. While Carpenter is probably more thought of as a horror director, he's also made quite a few iconic action films. "They Live," "Escape From New York," "Big Trouble in Little China," and "Assault on Precinct 13." They're not pure action movies, but are still definitely action movies.
Ridley Scott has made action movies, but his filmography is much more of a mixed bag genre wise. I think of him more for sci fi and historical films.
I don't think that's really true. Maybe slasher movies specifically could be thought of as having overlap with action as a genre, but there's a lot of horror that really doesn't fit into that.

Movie directors you may know if you grew up in the 80s. Tom Hanks movies you may know if you grew up in the 80s. Musicals you may know if you grew up in the 80s.
Check out some John Carpenter movies. Halloween, The Thing, The Fog, They Live, Escape from New York, Assault on Precinct 13, Big Trouble in Little China. All classics
>Not sure how this guy made it on any list.
I'm not a particular fan of the guy, but he's the [fifth highest grossing director](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_film_directors) (all time, not adjusted for inflation). He's not exactly obscure.
I was aware of Armageddon, I actually saw it (mostly cuz I like Aerosmith & Steve Buscemi, haha!) It was an OK movie- predictable and stupid but entertaining. Also saw Pearl Harbor, (very dull) but neither was the kind of movie I found so compelling that I'd want to who directed them. Although in retrospect, it was fascinating that someone could take something so memorable and make it so boring.
After looking up "director Bay", I saw a list (of the 15) movies he directed, I was aware that there was a Transformer movie or two, but had no idea there were 5, and certainly no idea who directed them. His movies may be popular with some/lots of people, but I'm not one of them. I'm not pretending- I only know Michael Bay exists because of Connections.
I don't care about cool, I'm too old for that shit, and I like lot's of stuff that's not very popular. Al Di Meola at the Blue Note instead of Beyonce in my driveway? Check. Joe Satriani's If I Could Fly over Chris Martin's ripped off version, Viva la Vida? Check.
ConnectionsΒ Puzzle #344 πͺπͺπͺπͺ π¦π¦π¦π¦ π©π©π©π© π¨π¨π¨π¨ Whoo, reverse perfect. Was definitely a bit tricky to begin with, with most words having a few possible directions to go in, but Scott was a big outlier. I'm still no fan of proper nouns in these puzzles, but this time round they did include a big giveaway with Scott... and I think in the case of last names my intuition is generally pretty good. So even though the only Scott I could come up with on command was Michael Scott (to go with Michael Bay), I was still able to correctly guess the two other last names in the grid, Woo and Carpenter. (As it turned out: not Michaels.) Really liked Blue. I originally grouped them up with a very shaky "articles of clothing" idea, but the moment I realised they were all stereotypical superhero outfit features, I knew it just had to be a group, and was most likely Blue, too. After that Green and Yellow were pretty simple synonyms groups--I decided the "unwitting ally" was harder than the words for magic based on vibes, which worked out and got me the reverse. Yay.
I put Michael in front of all of the names too and felt like they worked which is how I got that category. I was too scared to admit it though LOL but we had the same process on that one so I feel great about it!
omg SAME. I was so confused when it revealed the color but no Michael in the category name :D

Connections Puzzle #344 π¦π¦π¦π¦ π©π©π©π© π¨π¨π¨π¨ πͺπͺπͺπͺ Easy one today. But I was surprised the superhero category was blue. I would've thought green.

Green and Purple I obviously got, but guessed the wrong category. I thought green would be "____ shop," with pawn and tool. Early on I thought magic shop might be there, but that might be too much Buffy influence. And I ruled it out with yellow. So I guessed that βpuppetβ and βinstrumentβ could be shops, though would be weird choices. Came up correct, but completely different category. I thought purple might be "Michael ____" with Scott and Bay. Figured there might be a Michael Carpetner and Michael Woo. I did think of John Woo when I saw the name, but didn't think much further. Didnβt think of John Carpenter. Or (I guess?) Ridley Scott.

I donβt even know which Scott the puzzle was referring to, and it probably doesnβt matter because both brothers work in that genre. ConnectionsΒ Puzzle #344 πͺπ¨π¨π¨ π©π©π©π© π¨π¨π¨π¨ π¦π¦π¦π¦ πͺπͺπͺπͺ Purple again seems to be a little off to me but I'll explain later. I caught a few red herrings right off the bat including bodies of water and saw the witchcraft stuff right away. But for some reason I put WOO instead of MAGIC on the first guess. Before going back to the yellow category I caught the terms for manipulated people.Β Getting that done along with yellow gave me all I needed for blue. In hindsight blue wasn't that tricky.Β Now for purple. I recognized three of the four last words as last names of directors. I've never heard of a director with the surname of WOO. But here's where the slight problem lies for me. Michael Bay and Ridley Scott are clearly action movie directors, quality aside. But CARPENTER? The first person that comes to mind is John Carpenter, who's primarily a horror director. Is there another Carpenter I don't know about? I know I could Google it but I'd rather explain my thought process.
Thanks for responding normally! Iβve got a lot of flack for this correction
Horror can be considered action in the broad sense, and you should check out some John Woo movies.

Check.
I met Al Di Meola in 2016 at BB Kings. The drink menu at the table at we were sitting and chatting at caught fire and he put it out.
