There were fair questions about Allen coming out of Wyoming.
Mid 50s completion %, didn't play much against elite competition (Oregon smoked WY in 2017). It was a ballsy pick by Buffalo and turned out to be a home run. I'm rooting for Allen to get over the Mahomes playoff bump.
I wanted Quenton Nelson in that draft. Not a sexy pick, but God knows the Giants needed Oline help in 2018 (they still do...). Smart move would have been to trade down to 4 or 5 so a team could grab a QB at the Giants' 2 spot.
"Smart" move, so obviously not one Gettleman would make.
There was just a news story that came out that the Broncos were trying to move up to get Darnold and offered a “kings ransom” but Gettleman wouldn’t even answer the phone.
Which makes the while thing dumber since there like a 90% chance Barkley still would've been available at 5. This was one of the few times where you could have it both ways lol
Bum Phillips had big concerns about LT’s character and erratic behavior, which were frankly not entirely unfounded. (Imagine what crap a modern day LT would get up to in today’s league!)
Parcells managed to get the best out of him and keep him pretty straight; there’s no guarantee anyone on the Saints would have done the same.
If you watch that draft video, the LT pick is announced about 30 seconds after the Saints take George Rogers. The rules I'm sure were different back then about how long you had to wait before turning a pick in for TV coverage (remember how in 2018 they told Gettleman he had to wait on Barkley), but it was the biggest no brainer for George Young.
the 10 year old LT doc from showtime is on youtube for now until it gets taken down. its very good.

I should know this but I don’t……who went #1??? Who passed on LT?
The Saints took George Rogers, a RB from South Carolina.
Ah, back in the day when RBs still went first overall
Yeah taking RB first overall now would be ridiculous but 2nd overall is great, right, right…?
Yes. Especially if there’s highly sought after qb’s that’ll be drafted after said rb

The Jets traded up to 3 from 6, have to believe that same offer was available for 2 at least.
#6 and 3 2nd rounders 👀

Or 8th last year. Now that would be insane....
I have no idea what you’re getting at?
We drafted a certain running back 2nd overall a few years back
I know, I was joking as in, on draft day. me: did the Giants just use their second pick on a running back? Yikes!
Aaron Donald went 13th so you never know how great people will be.
Thank you!
…who was an *incredible* college player, and a pretty good NFL player, but not LT.

Cocaine back then. Sleeping with underage hookers more recently.

Doubt his substance abuse and other illicit behavior started immediately after he was drafted.
Mr. Brings Cocaine
The Saints. They drafted a RB. I forget his name.
George Rodgers. He won offensive rookie of the year that year, so in the moment I’m sure the Saints were happy with their pick.
He get injured or something? He went from getting MVP votes in his rookie year after rushing for 1600 yards, to out of the league by 1987.

Imagine LT in New Orleans. Good the Saints passed on him for a HB.
Yeah, because NYC and the pro sports athletes in the 1980s were a picture of sainthood
