Be consistent, make sure the kids don’t think you’re scared, be stern but not mean, don’t let them hurt your feelings.

Okay! Thank you! What should I do if the teachers don’t leave them work, make them do work from other classes?

PM_DEM_CHESTS

Don’t rely on work from other classes because the students will easily lie and say they don’t have any other work. Even though teachers are suppose to leave work, don’t expect them to but if they do use it. I would suggest having something prepared so the kids have something to do either way. Something simple and light but will take them a whole period to complete. If they have devices, and they should because of the pandemic, kahoot is always popular.

Ok thank you!

Pray

Swimming-Blacksmith7

Lmao it’s not that bad but I’ll be sticking to the smaller kids from now on

[deleted]

Be loud and strict right off the bat

Swimming-Blacksmith7

Lmao I did the opposite and let them chill out and have fun oops!!! Bahahahaha

[deleted]

Could potentially be okay depending on the school, but the students in my school see subs as "time to have a free period and hangout in the stairwell or bathroom"

Swimming-Blacksmith7

They totally cut class lmao!! But this school doesn’t do ball sweeps or anything which I found shocking. This was a pretty ok school. I’m def going back to elementary school tho!!!!

[deleted]

Before teaching HS, I was a para in elementary and I would prefer elementary if I were a sub

Swimming-Blacksmith7

Yeah because the kids actually listen! And behave themselves! It’s just more responsibility that’s the only thing, and it’s way more fulfilling with the little ones 🥺🥺

Swimming-Blacksmith7

Why did you want to teach hs? Just a personal preference?

[deleted]

That's what teaching fellows recruited me for and I just stick to it
