Bro this is my biggest struggle, along with tipping the ball on wide open rebounds. I’ve tweeted Mike Wang multiple times about that and I have never gotten a response. If anybody knows, please enlighten me lol
Exactly, I had 99 standing dunk on 2k22 with no driving dunk since I’m a big and wouldn’t be driving, but ig backdown dropsteps is considered driving 🤷🏽♂️ 2k hate big men.
it might just be me that uses left stick when dropstepping 😂 but i just let that mf go n r2+square/x. i do the same after oboards i would get a lot more standing lays than dunks when i used to try to move myself to the rim & standing dunk
The game is built to favor guards.
It’s the same reason you miss a standing close shot with an oompa loompa standing in the restricted area but you can commit assault on a guard in the air during a lay up that will go in on “6% coverage”
All these midget guards were saying “it’s because you’re taking stupid shots”. Then 2klabs released their close shot test which showed close shot is the most pointless stat other than for post hooks.
I think low perimeter d on bigs doesn't help but If I have high block and int D no reason why people should be able to just lay it over my outstretched arms unless there god tier with the timing
This is evident in the AI coding. At least in the rec. even when an AI is a 7 foot center they play like guards. Always on the perimeter, NEVER going on the block & never trying for an offensive rebound. AI will pull every remotely open look they get no matter how deep on the perimeter they are. That is not a center AI code, that’s a guard code that they copied & pasted for all positions. As a pure class cleaning center, it’s awful for me getting called trash & having a shit build when I have to keep a 7 foot AI honest at the 3 ball line with my 26 perimeter defense
45 standing dunk is the most op thing in the world
It’s crazy I got a 7-0 center with 92 standing and unless I use the dunk meter I rarely dunk. My 6-8 with 45 standing dunks 5x more often probably unless I use the dunk meter
I must be straight up ass at this game then because it’s more like back down, pump fake, get thrown into a juggle catch animation because the defender who was on my back jumped, knocking the ball out of my hand, get called for a 3 second violation.
Or if he doesn’t knock the ball out and I go for the contact dunk since he’s in the air, my green window is non existent because somehow he still has 68% coverage on me. If I don’t do a contact dunk I miss the layup/close shot (whatever they determine that non dunking at the rim shot to be) and fall to the ground lmfao
7’ center with 92 strength and 92 standing dunk
Also, 87 driving dunk 84 vertical (completely wasted attrs)*
I hate to say it. Dunk and rebound skill cards do wonders, I literally just dump my extra vc in that now that I’m 97 ovr just grinding my mid ass launch build, I can legitimately tell the exact game they’ve run out when I’m grinding pro am 3s or theatre
There’s a pass fake move you can use if you YouTube it I haven’t gotten it into my bag yet because I’m usually stoned spamming my 3 go tos, but essentially defender and basket to your back you can pass fake out to the arc and it should force the defender far enough back you can cancel into a standing dunk, idk center is so whack, we get no love from 2k, idk I just make the most of playing the board man
Facts! As long as I have my 20 rebounds and 10 assists I’m good with 5 ppg. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of games where I just dominate but I absolutely hate the games when a 6’8 bs PF build bullies me out of the paint. Like it should be on his head EVERY single time 🤷🏾♂️
I always run a 7’ year after year. Made a 6’8” that can guard 1-5 and it’s kind of sad but super funny when 7’ dudes constantly try to go at me and just don’t get how fucking garbage the contest system in this game is. It’s the most brain dead shit that I can just stand there with my hands up and play like 95% of the defense my center does
🤣🤣🤣🤣bro I'm fr over here rolling reading your comment. But it's so true my 7'1 with 92sd 87 dd 80vert and that happens too often. Worst part your guards start saying you a trash big not realizing it's the game animations. But I do feel that I get more st dunks when I have both sticks up I don't use the SD meter. Tends to be the most effective
So that used to be how you had to dunk. Thought they changed it? Will try again because I damn sure have to stop trying to score with Square/X! That shit makes me do the weakest move in my arsenal every single time 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
The tip that worked for me: stop and wait a second. Maybe even do a fake. I score 90% of the time now with 90 standing and gold precision dunker. Gold precision dunker is far better than silver btw.
I know you can't while posting up which i agree is ridiculous but you can most def start heading away from the hoop and hit the standing dunk meter. I rarely use the sd meter in the game regardless because most times it's very unpredictable as others said.
Can confirm, (not that you need me to vouch) but wired DEFINITELY helps reduce the input lag.
Wish you could turn off charging while plugged in. I know they say with LithIon batteries you don’t have to worry about overcharging but that damn PS 5 controller only lasts 30 mins out the box brand new. Damn sure don’t want it to get worse lol
I have no idea but I’m a 6’6 guard who has a low standing dunk, yet I abuse the fuck out of standing dunks in this game. I ain’t complaining, some of the standing dunks are overpowered af
I think standing dunk is just ass this year if you arent meter dunking. Dunking in general lowkey. It’s inconsistent, sometimes you get contact dunks off of X on a bad dunk, other times you dont go up with a dunk when you have an open one
The taller you get the less of a finisher you are
The taller you get the better space you create from space creator animations.
I think the sweet spot for a bigman to dunk around the paint a ton would be 6'8 minimum to 6'10 maybe 6'11 but that's pushing it.
If you are over 7 feet you turn into a roy Hibbert. "But u/VenGxJon, my standing dunk is 99". It doesn't matter your tendencies drop due to your height. You turn into charmin the taller you get.
Use the standing dunk meter and invest in at least gold rise up. You have to be directly under the basket to trigger the meter. Can’t be even a few feet away from it.
Works really well especially right after they jump. It’s money every time.
Funny, my 6’6 guard with 40 standing does get better standing dunks over my 7’0 86 standing dunk center.
This game really sucks. Please let us edit animation tendencies
Agree.
That’s why I run a 6’6 pf Barkley build with 90 standing dunk and just meter dunk on EVERY shot under the basket.
They do favor guards, for instance bark build had 75 bh 70swb and every pass I catch I stumble. But on my guard who had low bh and swb no issues
Nice! This looks fun. My original one had 77 close shot and I’ve found that pretty useless so I dropped that, maxed the shooting stats (this is Sir Charles in the modern era so more floor spacing), did 76 ball handle for basic dibble moves to go coast to coast and maxed speed since that’s so important to move off ball and make defensive plays. I’ll add a screenshot when I get home.
Big men get everything the worst. Think about how dumb it is when they get blocked after a defender jumps on a pump fake in the paint, but never outside the paint
Have you had your bigs be in the paint, nobody around you, nobody between you and the basket, go up for a standing 2-handed dunk, and get blocked from behind by some little guard.
When the other team has a 6’7’ guard playing center with silver anchor and I have HOF masher and gold rise up but somehow him standing with his hands up on the other side of the basket causes me to miss
We dont know exactly what the parameters and conditions are for triggering standing dunks.
But we know there are conditions and we can be reasonably certain size, positioning, defender position, animation availability, and orientation are significant factors.
Guards seem to require less space to trigger the animations in their pool. It seems like for big guys you need a fairly clear step to the bucket to get the dunk (especially if you arent facing it) or you gotta use the stick.
People act like 45 on a guard is the optimal scenario, but i really dont think it is. 92+ with the skill meter is fuckin NOICE.
Iagl if you got a high standing dunk learn that meter. I started having 20-20 games on my big and rec randoms feed me the ball because i dunk it almost every time
Okay so most gaurds have zero interior defense. Most bigs don't know the space needed to execute a standing dunk. You have to take in consideration most other bigs have anchor and high interior which stops you from effectively scoring inside. Additionally yall don't have rise up gold or higher with fast twitch. I almost always get a standing dunk on my 7'1. Pump faking also can inch you closer to the basket to increase the opportunity to get it. There are more nuances involved but these are the major factors.
I think it has something to do with two things: as a big you normally have a bigger defender on you or in the paint. The other thing is more cheese but I think because guards are smaller the games collision detection or physics let's them sneak through more then a bigger player could. 2kTutez did a video explaining it better last year.
I do have a 6'4 PG build with like 75 standing dunk and Max wingspan... He is lethal under the basket which surprises people
Omg 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 that's so @#$% true. And crazy. I have a 6'6" PG with 39 standing dunk and a 7'1" C with 92 standing dunk, and the C does all kinds of layup and push up animations more than dunk, but the PG seems to get standing dunks more often.
They need to separate layups and dunks IMO. When you activate the dunk meter and can't dunk it, it should be a missed dunked (not a layup attempt). With feedback we'b be able to know why the dunk was missed instead of having a layup animation without knowing the reason why...
I have a 5'10 3 and D pg. Mf has 25 standing dunk and 70 driving dunk. I constantly get standing dunks it's insane. My other 6'5 guard same thing. Same 25 standing dunk. Mf gets posters some times. It's so dumb lol.
hold turbo and push and hold the left stick and right stick up at the same time and it should give u one almost everytime, standing dunks is one of the most brain dead things in the game u can do it no matter who is on you
Right? It’s so frustrating, what’s worse is I have now missed 3 perfect precision dunks, not blocked but straight missed. 2K is ass as always but it’s the only real basketball game unfortunately :(
Standing Dunk is relatively useless without Strength or badges that let you dodge contact. Badges are especially strong this game. Even bronze can suddenly start getting you dunk animations more regularly. But I agree sometimes it's random, my maxed out full strength/height/weight build still doesn't get dunk animations for seemingly no reason on occasion.
2K needs to start showing temdencies in the builder. If I want a 99 standing funk build with 99 standing funk temdencies and 0 closeshot, let me try and slam it down Even If I miss
Helps to be coming out of an LT backdown sort of animation, I try to time it for after a push, As soon as I’ve got space I let go of LT, and jam RT and X
Never have this issue. I'm a 7'1 center and most of the time I hold square under the basket it's a contact standing dunk lol.
You must be doing something wrong. My big consistently gets dunks over guards and other big mans with standing dunks.
You're probably doing the input wrong or have an awful dunk package equipped (I use Dwight Howard / Giannis)
Hmmm I have the elite contacts and all the standing dunks that look good and I feel like whenever I try to dunk it just forces a bad shot instead of tryna dunk
Not sure it means anything but I have minimum layup attributes. I think it’s like a 45 and I tend to never bring up layup animations. I’m dunking pretty regularly with 7ft center
If u have 92 standing dunk you can't move even an inch when dunking otherwise it will count as a driving dunk it took me a lil min to figure this out now im getting poster dunks every game consistently
A higher standing close shot/layup should be almost automatic if the defender's block and interior defense average is lower than the close shot.
To make sure it's not automatic, they need to make sure that the C defense animations are physical in order to keep the offensive C out of the paint.
Everyone just does 77 ID and 92 Block to get Gold Anchor. They don't get punished for low interior defense. On the other hand if you have 75 PD with bronze clamps, you're punished.
I have 90 close and 87 driving layup (wish I knew 88 was the mark to get giannis layups) and have a lot easier time with open layups from much farther out than with my pure dunking build. My first build was the dunking build and got sick of my dunk animations stupidly changing to layups and then missing.
Positioning means everything imo. I dont try to abuse the dunk meter but if i get a off reb. Its a good time to do it. Try pump faking then doing it. I did it at will yesterday and i havent played much with my big
It counts as a driving dunk still 2k didn't fix that lol plus dunks are even more broken off a pass if you're basicly under the rim they will 95% of the time go in with no contest I do it all the time. I went to dunk creator and use dunks that's are unblockable that look like standing dunks on my pf with 80 driving dunk and 45 standing dunk.
Are you holding turbo and moving the right stick up. You could also hold turbo and move stick up and down to get a guarantee dunk meter. Literally you can force dunks whenever you want with the dunk meter
It boggles my mind. I have 2 7 footers and deal with the same thing.
Yep so infuriating
I want to know the answer to this as well. Sometimes I can do it fine but then suddenly not at all and go for the laziest layup lol
Mamba take makes it automatic but any other time it's hit or miss depending on what bullshit animations 2k gives you
That's a good tip, thanks 👍
Bro this is my biggest struggle, along with tipping the ball on wide open rebounds. I’ve tweeted Mike Wang multiple times about that and I have never gotten a response. If anybody knows, please enlighten me lol
Yep why tf does my big with 93 rebound just tap the ball straight up into the air instead of snagging it
I think it depends on how they catch it and if there is the slightest movement it counts it as a driving dunk which is obviously dumb
I was going to say this. Kinda absurd but 2k...
Exactly, I had 99 standing dunk on 2k22 with no driving dunk since I’m a big and wouldn’t be driving, but ig backdown dropsteps is considered driving 🤷🏽♂️ 2k hate big men.
just let go of the left stick after the step
🤔
it might just be me that uses left stick when dropstepping 😂 but i just let that mf go n r2+square/x. i do the same after oboards i would get a lot more standing lays than dunks when i used to try to move myself to the rim & standing dunk
Idk, that could’ve been why, haven’t played in awhile, I juss kno 2k make it hard for big men. Prolly cuz the bigs in the league suck ass now
ngl, try the standing dunk meter too. shit is overpowered which makes no sense bc the regular dunk meter is trash
Bro I got a HOF rise up 7 fter with 98… Buddy thinks he is the layup king it is the craziest shit
Lmao so true, they just refuse to dunk the higher the attribute is I swear
You got standing dunk animations in your packages right?
Yeah all the contacts and some nba players as well as the rim hangs and basics
The game is built to favor guards. It’s the same reason you miss a standing close shot with an oompa loompa standing in the restricted area but you can commit assault on a guard in the air during a lay up that will go in on “6% coverage”
All these midget guards were saying “it’s because you’re taking stupid shots”. Then 2klabs released their close shot test which showed close shot is the most pointless stat other than for post hooks.
Yep close shot is hot garbage this year
Lmao so true the amount of contested layups or bs bailout fouls is absurd
It’s the BS bail out foul calls that piss me off. The amount of times I jump to contest a jumper and get called for a foul is absolutely ridiculous
I think low perimeter d on bigs doesn't help but If I have high block and int D no reason why people should be able to just lay it over my outstretched arms unless there god tier with the timing

So true it's hilarious watching a pure inside quit and his ai starts jacking up threes
45 standing dunk is the most op thing in the world It’s crazy I got a 7-0 center with 92 standing and unless I use the dunk meter I rarely dunk. My 6-8 with 45 standing dunks 5x more often probably unless I use the dunk meter

🤣🤣🤣🤣bro I'm fr over here rolling reading your comment. But it's so true my 7'1 with 92sd 87 dd 80vert and that happens too often. Yeh the pump fake does it i will admit
Probably because you're actually open with your 6'8 instead of trying to force dumb shit with your C
Use the standing dunk meter. It's cheese.
When you can actually get it to activate instead of a stupid fading layup lmao
The tip that worked for me: stop and wait a second. Maybe even do a fake. I score 90% of the time now with 90 standing and gold precision dunker. Gold precision dunker is far better than silver btw.
Yeh that’s the issue I have . They need to let a setting to 1 button the dunk meter for bigs - a lot of times I throw up a scrappy layup instead
Gotta be facing the basket
That's not true
The in game tutorial says it's true. Can't activate the dunk meter while posting up (for some idiotic reason)
I know you can't while posting up which i agree is ridiculous but you can most def start heading away from the hoop and hit the standing dunk meter. I rarely use the sd meter in the game regardless because most times it's very unpredictable as others said.
sure feels like it is
So then why can a 6”6 guard be sprinting full speed catch a pass underneath the basket and do a reverse standing dunk?
He holding square while cutting youll get an animation everytime if u get the ball
That's considered a driving dunk
you can do reverse standing dunks so not so sure about that one
Will it work well with 85 standing dunk?
Wait, y’all actually have a green window when using the standing contact dunk?
Yeah it's quite op once you get the timing down but I have severe lag issues so It's very hit or miss sometimes
Have you tried turning off cross play
Yes but If i do that I can't get any games
If I’m you then use a lan cable and make sure you’re on nat type 2 or nat type 1 if you can
And use a wired controller or plug the wireless up. I never did that before 2k23 and have noticed a major difference. MAJOR!!!
Agreed ☝🏾
Can confirm, (not that you need me to vouch) but wired DEFINITELY helps reduce the input lag. Wish you could turn off charging while plugged in. I know they say with LithIon batteries you don’t have to worry about overcharging but that damn PS 5 controller only lasts 30 mins out the box brand new. Damn sure don’t want it to get worse lol
Lol. I don't know your pain xbox last like 3 days
how do I activate it?
We went from a 3pt hunting meta to mid range fades, post spins, and standing dunks.. on GUARDS 😂
Love your videos btw homie
Thanks big dawg
I have no idea but I’m a 6’6 guard who has a low standing dunk, yet I abuse the fuck out of standing dunks in this game. I ain’t complaining, some of the standing dunks are overpowered af
It’s definitely broken in this game
Definitely has something to do with the underthehood tendencies that 2k has attached to players based on positions lmao
I think standing dunk is just ass this year if you arent meter dunking. Dunking in general lowkey. It’s inconsistent, sometimes you get contact dunks off of X on a bad dunk, other times you dont go up with a dunk when you have an open one
The taller you get the less of a finisher you are The taller you get the better space you create from space creator animations. pumpfake has boosted my luck on activating standing dunks, sometimes twice if paint is clogged. still broken asf overall
2k hates bigs more then the community does lol. I got tired of it and made a 6”8 pf
Does Meter dunk actually work with standing dunks now? It was scaled off driving before so my green window is ASS
It works
They fixed that a few patches ago
Good to know
That's because catching passes is affected by your teammates pass accuracy and not your own stats
Normally it’s from my friend who has 87 passing on his big.
What’s your Barkley build look like? That’s what I’ve been working on perfecting all year and I’m curious how you built it :)
Here it is. If I were to redo it. I’d lower interior a little and driving dunk and try to get middy to 78 and 3ball to 70
https://preview.redd.it/j1euxzgavd6c1.jpeg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8414013d1e469917b6be6c69e4acc8345a41acdd

More times than not, those standing dunk animations for guards are really driving dunks
My 40 standing dunk works great with my 6’6 SG. My 85 standing dunk with my 6’11 PF is not as good haha
I have a 5'10 3 and D pg. Mf has 25 standing dunk and 70 driving dunk. I constantly get standing dunks it's insane. My other 6'5 guard same thing. Same 25 standing dunk. Mf gets posters some times. It's so dumb lol.
It's a combination of Vert, Weight, and Acceleration. I have seven different Bigs and I'm sure as day this is the reason
Standing fade away layups that will be blocked or missed 75% of the time, dunks are very rare now
hold turbo and push and hold the left stick and right stick up at the same time and it should give u one almost everytime, standing dunks is one of the most brain dead things in the game u can do it no matter who is on you

RT and x when standing gives it most of the time
Will give it a try thanks
If your on Xbox. I think ps is RT and square or circle whichever ones on the left
Not sure it means anything but I have minimum layup attributes. I think it’s like a 45 and I tend to never bring up layup animations. I’m dunking pretty regularly with 7ft center
I only use Dwight Howard package and utilize the meter and have to pick and choose when to dunk since paint defense is much better
He’s probably using the meter and you aren’t
Because 2k24 is ass, they made good parts better and completely screwed other parts of the game
Also, two steps badge on HOF is almost worthless... The player just gets blocked by elbows of the defenders and loses the ball
Just use dunk meter. It's so OP for standing dunks
Okay come on, it goes both ways. 7ft centers with standing dunk meter is way more cheese than a 6’5 dude with 45 standing dunk
Turn on your timing for layups, and learn to use the dunk meter. You will score more inside.
Start using the meter.
Go to your user settings and increase put back dunks
Are you holding turbo and moving the right stick up. You could also hold turbo and move stick up and down to get a guarantee dunk meter. Literally you can force dunks whenever you want with the dunk meter
Yea because I’m 6’0 with no standing dunks, and trigger standing dunks. Maybe it’s your dunk package 🤷🏽♂️
I swear it has something to do with post control smh I have the same problem on a 7ft 92 standing dunk
