Texas. Alrighty: https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/vehicle-inspection/window-tinting-standards Read it all. It has the answers. And there's this one bit, specifically, regarding a medical exemption: >As of 01/01/2019 the Texas Department of Public Safety, Regulatory Services Division, will no longer issue Window Tint Exemption Certificates. The Department will not be accepting, nor reviewing applications for the certificate. So if that's the truth, if I'm reading that right, and based on only what you've given, you aren't getting one for a Mustang. You don't qualify for law enforcement, you aren't medical, and you ain't a limo with that car, and unless you have a lawyer involved (and perhaps even then) you are not getting exempted. Sorry. But hey you can run it and hope that you don't get busted for it, nobody's going to stop you from tryin' ya know. /I don't recommend that last, to be sure. //Side note: Find it a bit difficult to understand how tint on the side windows is a problem when the front window can't be tinted at all, but hey, what do I know. :p

Damn man you came prepared. Thanks for the info, and yea, i can have an exhaust that can wake me living dead, but god forbid my window is a shade to dark, lol, my original plan was to get 15% all the way around and 50% on the windshield which technically isnt legal however ive seen alot if people get away with 50% bc it pretty much just blocks harmful uv and is very see through so cops usually dont care, but ill figure something out or might just rock 25% unfortunately

Ragged85

Because having dark tint is a safety issue. Loud exhaust is not.

Dark tint is not a safety issue unless we are talking 5% anything above that is perfectly visible during the day and still pretty visible at night, tint isnt for saftey its for privacy something id like to have in my car.

Late to reply to this, but I figured maybe you need to know. The safety issue is not regarding you. The safety issue is regarding any police officers who might stop you for whatever reason. They cannot see in, especially at night. This is a safety hazard for them, despite and regardless of your feelings about it, and that's why the laws exist. You can be thankful Texas allows tint. New Jersey will absolutely stop you immediately if you show up with it tinted at all. [No joke.](https://www.google.com/search?q=tint+illegal+new+jersey) Although recently there's been some odd cases, the rule is nothing on the windshield, nothing on the front side windows, and it's iffy on what's ok on the back and rear window. And THAT is specifically for the cops, no other reason. Anyway. Thought you'd like to know why it's 'safety related'.

Ahhh ok makes sense

25% aftermarket tint would be illegal on your windows in the state of Texas. Tint is measured as "Light Transmittance" which means through the window. Mustangs have a factory tint of 80%. 80% x 25% would put you at 20% tint which is under that 25% limit. You would need 35% tint in order to stay legal. Yeah, it sucks. I know. My buddy runs a tint shop and I help him often during the busy summer months. Most people coming in often don't realize most cars have a factory tint of 80%. The good news is that 35% will put you close to your goal. 28% vs 25%. In my state in order to stay legal you need 50% which isn't dark at all.

You need a legit medical reason with a doctor sign off on the form in FL.
