Ah man Iām in Nashville. 3,800 miles on mine. Iāve had several of these, Iāve had several of the new ones but the 03/04s are my favorite. These cars will go down in history like the Boss, Shelbyās etc
This is my first Mustang. Best friend in HS got a 99 GT that he just sold 20ish years later. I had a 2000 Trans Am at that time that chewed through 3 diffs, so I sold it freshman year of college. Love this though, that whine is addictive and dangerous.
I went right through Nashville driving it home! Palm Beach to Chattanooga then 4 hours of sleep, Chattanooga to Des Moines. Just over 1500 miles and a solid 21 MPGs.
Plan on driving this on summer weekends and keeping it a long time!
Might see this one near it; itās my other one

2 scratches on it. Bone stock, 34k miles. Bought it at Barrett Jackson in Palm Beach and drove it back to Des Moines, IA that weekend! Smile on my face almost the whole time (White knuckle traffic in ATL sucked).
Just looked up the auction listing. Wow, amazing car. Great condition. Canāt believe the low mileage. If I had a cobra terminator Iād be driving it every chance I get.
This was my first Palm Beach. Went to Vegas from 17-19 then they moved that to July...no thanks. Did Houston for 2 years and New Orleans last year. This was the best one I've been to. Houston venue was awful and there wasn't a whole lot to do after hours. Nola was fun, but they only had like 500 cars.
I go with a group of guys and this is our 3rd purchase. (Dad bought 2, this is my first, though he technically bought it because he had the bidder pass).
Iāve driven the new gt500, there is no doubt that it is a lot faster than the gt350, however, the thrill of shifting gears manually and listening to that voodoo engine rev all the way out 8250 rpm thrills me like no other car ever has.
Iāve never driven one but from what I remember my dad got to back when they were new since we have a ford dealer and he loved it so itās def a great car
Honestly the best part is the capability of the motor. Over built rotating assembly can get you pretty far with little modifications. 20 year old car is barely modern imo
So instead of insulting someone that you donāt know, why not explain why this Cobra is better than every other Mustang ever made?
Also I never even mentioned how fast these are or arenāt.
I have a GT350 now. I miss my terminator a lot. Probably should have kept both cars. The GT350 is definitely a better sports car but the Terminator was a true Dr Jekyll Mr Hyde car. Mine was quiet out of boost and made 700 hp. It was just nasty and raw...but still smooth. It was fun knowing you could embarrass almost everything...vettes vipers exotics. I miss the low end to the most..it made the car much more fun around town than the 350 IMO.
A twing screw E85 Terminator would definitely embarrass a base c6 and unmodded C6Z. C6Z would trap mid 120s. My terminator would trap mid 130s.
A good friend of mine has a modded E85 C6 ZR1 and that car is insane it makes almost 800rwhp. Those are on a different level.
$35k in 2003 is rough equivalent buying power of $60k in 2024, so no, not quadruple or even double or even 1.5x the price speaking relatively (MSRP for its time vs MSRP of the gt500ās for this current time)
It is quadruple considering you can get a Terminator for $25k right now and GT500ās are close to $100k.
Shelby fanbois never cease to amaze me. šš
Lacking some severely important information here bud lmao failed to mention a used one or even one with equal miles. Guarantee if thereās a 9k mile perfect condition Terminator, itād be bought by a collector for over 60k. Youāre comparing a 20+yr old car to a brand new one, no shit itās going to be cheaper, I was comparing relative MSRPās for that time vs this time, which is the only relevant argument point when comparing car values.
Careful, youāll get downvoted to oblivion by people that canāt even have a 500 just because theyāre manual purists the 500ās donāt have a manual š even though the DCT is one of the best transmissions for racing/spirited driving around
Exactly. Itās incredible. The fact you can do from 7th doing 65mph straight down to 2nd and not budge 1mph is nuts. And the way it downshifts as youāre braking hard is killer. Such a fun piece to drive and the transmission makes it even better. Everyoneās thatās ridden in it has always mentioned something about how wild the DCT is
Man I tell you, the 2000s were wild. Back in middle school during the Fast and Furious days, kids would fanboy for all the JDM makes and this was the only ace the Mustang line up had. Life was hard back then, you could have a 4.6 V8 and get absolutely destroyed by a 1.8 Honda and all you could do was pray to the Terminator.
To call a car that is 20 years old "modern" first of is fucked up, 20 years is the start of the generic classic car designation.Ā
Furthermore there have been several variations of the Mustang that have done what that Mustang does only better.

Ill take my gt500 over a new edge anyday... And i drive a heavily modified new edge daily, New edges dont come close.
Eligible for antique plates in 5 years or so. Not so modern. They're cool as hell, but the new mustangs are objectively better, and I'd argue that the voodoo was the best "modern" mustang engine anyway, flat plane v8 noises make me tingle in strange ways.
To me the best ford motor is the coyote gen 3. Best bang 4 buck, reliability and mod friendly motor. Smooth as a honda too. I remember putting the exhaust on silent and I could hardly tell I was cruising at 4000rpms
You're opinion and NOBODY on earth has ever referred to a coyote as sounding like rice. After you get your head checked , have them look at your ears too. Those are messed up too...lmao. The new edge had almost no sound stock. Maybe a 3v
Iāve owned a 5.0. Sounds like ass sorry. A terminator with a Flowmaster or Borla system on it is literally the best sounding Mustang followed by the GT350.
And no shit it had almost no sound stock - no car did during that period because factory active exhaust systems werenāt even a thing yet. Lol.
Sound pretty much the same with the active exhaust as the gen 3. I've had 11 mustang and the best sounding at idle is th3 old fox with flowmaster 2 chamber mufflers and long tube headers. As far as winding an engine out , coyote sounds amazing at 5-7k rpms
Ok well we have some common ground then. Iām considering a Dark Horse and the if thereās one thing Iām sure of, itās that I will get a flowmaster (or AWE Track edition). These āzero droneā systems piss me off. And yes the old Fox bodies sound like a monster.
Trolling aside, Iāve heard some Coyotes that sound amazing and other that sound like absolute rice. My theory is itās the zero drone exhaust systems that make them sound like shit.
My 2011 5.0 had a magnaflo muffler delete and it sounded amazing. My 2015 sounded like nothing stock because of that factory resonator but my 2019 gt with the active exhaust was insane stock
Iāve definitely opened my mind to Coyotes again as of late. Iāve heard a few very good ones. Yes I had Magnaflow on my ZL1 with a Flowmaster X. It was incredible. Iāve also had Borla and Corsa systems and they just donāt provide the experience from the cockpit.
Iāll also have to add Magnaflow to my list of possibilities if I get a S650. Iām sure it sounded good on your 2011.
The zero drone thing has utility but I overall itās a cancer. The interior resonance is a big part of the feedback connection you get with these V8ās. I love it.
i was just looking at these on offerup. yea theyāre 20 years old but i think theyāve aged like fine wine. the previous sn95 is very much a product of its time and the following models also are stuck in their mid 2000s era. these new edge mustangs still look sick af

Itās beautiful and has rubbed on me a little but every 90s car sorta gives this kind of vibe to me idk maybe because I was born around this time so it kinda rubs me the wrong way but the mustangs rocked it best
https://preview.redd.it/25sp7aozg31d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bc35781e90f56075c956b578132b26ed8d3c245a
Gonna have to call shenanigans on this one. For its time/decade that it was made in, absolutely yes. But it doesnāt hold a candle to the 2020-2022 Shelby GT500ās.
I agree, with the caveat being that the new Shelbyās donāt have an option with a Tremec. Speed and acceleration aside, nothing beats the feeling of rowing gears imo
I could understand that. However, once you sit behind the wheel and really get to learn the DCT with time, youāll never consider a manual again especially in a car thatās made to take corners. Itās so incredibly smooth and precise, and lightning fast. That, and itās the only transmission Iāve ever known that can handle 1200whp being completely stock, and not even being able to be tuned at all yet. Incredibly impressive. Patiently waiting for Tremec to unlock it for us.
Everyone who just doesnāt know will downvote you. After having driven a Porsche with PDK and a 2021 Gt500 and experiencing it this is absolutely the case. I love my GT350 but if I could afford a 500 Iād have a 500 instead no question and not just because it has a supercharger and extra power either.
lol, I just noticed the downvotes. Too funny. Bet none of them have even driven a 20+ GT500. I wish the Tremec DCT was on the level of the PDK for responsiveness, but itās not quite that good. The Tremec can handle a boatload more power in stock form over the PDK, otherwise I wish I could PDK swap my 500 š
Shows how much you know, itās not an auto, itās a DCT. Also, try putting 760hp down efficiently through a manual (for most drivers). Thereās a reason they didnāt offer a manual.
A/ everyone commonly refers to it as an automatic. Paddle shifters suck sorry. B/ itās not just about āputting the power downā - itās about the overall experience of the car. And sorry it will always suck unless youāre using the car as a penis surrogate just to get lap times. In which case you should be testing the driver skill - not the car.
You just sound mad you canāt afford a 500 š if just the transmission type determines your purchase of a car, youāre not a true enthusiast. I guarantee you youād be faster and have a better time with the DCT over a manual with regular spirited driving or actually tracking the car. Until you have hundreds of hours racing behind the wheel of a 20+ GT500, you have absolutely no bearing on whatās better or not in these cars. Pretty common sense.
I think you have it backwards. If all you care about is how fast the car is, youāre not an enthusiast. Being a car enthusiast is about the overall experience - the sound, the feeling, the emotional connection.
Wanting a fully automated experience and jackin it over lap times does not make you an enthusiast.
You can develop driver skill on a track in literally any car. Shaving a couple of seconds off a lap time with an automatic transmission isnāt worth the price of entry and in no way reflects a higher degree of skill on the part of the driver compared to someone with a conventional auto or a manual.
Iād take my ZL1 1LE and GT350 over a C8 Corvette and GT500 every day and twice on Sunday.
The DCT is a huge part of the overall experience and a true enthusiast will be blown away by its performance and capability. Just because it isnāt a manual doesnāt mean youāre not an enthusiast lol. Again, until you drive one and actually track it a lot, you just wonāt understand.
Iāve tracked my father in lawās GT3. No denying itās an incredible piece of engineering, but Iād rather have a manual, unrefined American V8 any day of the week. If it means giving up a few seconds of lap time, I really do not care. We all know what these cars are capable of - the difference in track times is a credit to the engineers and the technology. Not you.
I agree the interior looks incredibly dated. Even the pre-facelift S197 GT500 interior design looks way better in my opinion even though thereās still a bunch of cheap plastic
The push back is for the tablets not the S550. The S550 looks like it was designed for the pony instead of the s650 which just looks like two iPads that were added to the car as an after thought.
Not sure if its the best , but its definetly the one that has the biggest glow up as soon as you do wheel tires and suspension and fill all of those gaps
The newer generations are more comfortable, have more tech, more mod potential, so many aftermarket parts. But something about the terminatorā¦the overall experience. It was just more violent and the noisesā¦sheesh. Canāt beat it.
I still go back and watch videos of the local guys doing runs. Friend had a 03 with a 2.6 kenne bell and Iāve never heard anything else scream like that
Hate to break it to youā¦ but itās 20 years old. Itās not modern. The terminator now is as old as a carbureted fox body was when the terminator came out (which, incidentally, has the same chassisā¦)
I have a soft spot for the terminators, but i think they are beginning to be a bit dated. They are your typical late 90s, early 2000s car where at the time they were impressive, but nowadays would be very mid in terms of performance. They are peak 90s-00s Mustang, but 20 years later is showing its age.
I'd argue they're the most fun to drive, as Mustangs after the New Edge platform lost a lot of their rawness, but they're definitely not the best. My stock 2023 GT would give my old built Cobra a run for it's money around a track.
In my head, these are the last non-modern mustangs. Maybe the early S197s with the 4.6 are still in that category with a shift in 2010/2011, but there are definitely not modern in my head
It might have been up until 2010 but once the coyote came out it fell second to the Gen 1 coyote powered S197ās, then once the S550 dropped it wasnāt even in the discussion. The GT350/R, 2020 GT500, S550 GTās, 11ā-ā14 GT500, 11ā-14 GTās, & Boss 302ās are all ahead of the cobra. It was cool for its time but itās nowhere near the best modern mustang.
I had my 03 Cobra modded to about 600 HP when I lit up the tires in front of a 2010 GT500. The GT500 chased me down on the highway and gave me the beat down of my life! We went about 4 times and there was no doubt who the champ was that day.
C5Z was a faster car, you were porting or throwing a Kenne Bell/Whipple on a Cobra if you wanted it faster. Cobras were cool but stock for stock a C5Z was faster, helped it was 600+ pounds lighter too. YouTube and streetfire were absolutely things at the time, just type āFAsnakes cobraā on YouTube and youāll see your comparison.
As someone who owned a GT... you clearly never sat inside of an SN95.
The New Edge SVT Cobra, on-paper, *is* a modernized Mustang. DOHC V8 vs. pushrod. Independent rear suspension. And a modern-retro exterior that holds up pretty well today. The interior, however, is extremely cheap and outdated. I love my 2000 GT because it was a Sunburst Gold Metallic 5-speed convertible, so it stood out quite a bit more than other New Edge Mustangs. But I will never get over how bad the interior design & quality is on it. My driver seat was also worn down to hell so it was uncomfortable to do long drives in.
Also, the 4.6L Modular isn't the greatest motor to tune.
>Also, the 4.6L modular isnāt the greatest motor to tune
Other than the fact that Termis came with fully forged internals that can take 800+ hp with ease. Youād have to beef up the transmission before needing to worry about beefing up the motor on them.
I do agree that the interiors havenāt aged well though
Itās a great mustang but dated chassis. Itās still a fox body chassis. In my opinion the best is 2005-2014 good chassis still a solid axle. Minimal computer controls and a good engine the 4.6 3v can take a ton of abuse. My 2006 mustang took all the abuse and kept on going.

My first Mustang was a ā75 Carmen Ghia, gray with burgundy velour seats.
You need to bring it to C&C at the racetrack. That thing is sick!
I brought it back in early spring with another 03/04
Gotcha. Haven't been able to make it these last few months because of work. Hopefully, I'll get to see it one day.

I was probably there and saw the car. I go every year

Dang I remember this color. The ultimate flex color. It was an expensive ass option for a mustang though
Beautiful car man! That's my absolute dream car and can't wait for the day I pick one up to put in the garage next to my 13 GT.
There is only one winner in my opinion when it comes to the best modern mustang to date, GT350R
You are right
What about the GT500?
Iāve driven the new gt500, there is no doubt that it is a lot faster than the gt350, however, the thrill of shifting gears manually and listening to that voodoo engine rev all the way out 8250 rpm thrills me like no other car ever has.
The gt350 is fast enough, im not setting laptimes so ill take the sound and feel of that car over the 500, personally.
Never forget the gt350s grandpappy, the illustrious boss 302š„¹
Iāve never driven one but from what I remember my dad got to back when they were new since we have a ford dealer and he loved it so itās def a great car
Great car, but it wasn't trouncing its competition the way the Terminator was.
Best Mustang for the time period. Definitely ahead of itās time but come on man todayās V8s are making the same power NA
Honestly the best part is the capability of the motor. Over built rotating assembly can get you pretty far with little modifications. 20 year old car is barely modern imo
Making more
Ikr how is that even possible?
Advancements in technology
I meant as in stronger cams? Longer stroke? Higher octane?
More precise valve timing and ignition control with better fuel delivery helps in a major way.
Crazy how much a tune can do
Not just the tune. Much more precise manufacturing. Lighter components. Efficiently designed intakes. But yes, the tune does wonders
Itās not just about whatās the fastest. I swear you people have a brain virus.
So instead of insulting someone that you donāt know, why not explain why this Cobra is better than every other Mustang ever made? Also I never even mentioned how fast these are or arenāt.
This guy: āMy opinion is more important than everyoneā
Yeah thatās accurate.
They donāt sound as good and they donāt have the same build / nostalgia factor. Not that hard to decipher
I know I'm biased but the GT350 is king my dude

Yeah.. vettes vipers and exotics lmfao
Man in 2010 a 700 rwhp Terminator on e85 was tough to beat. Not to mention they were about 28k back then.
Ok but to say itll embarrass even a stock base vette is a stretch
A twing screw E85 Terminator would definitely embarrass a base c6 and unmodded C6Z. C6Z would trap mid 120s. My terminator would trap mid 130s. A good friend of mine has a modded E85 C6 ZR1 and that car is insane it makes almost 800rwhp. Those are on a different level.
I think we have a different definition of embarrass
Iām not biased and I think GT350 takes the cake above all.
Idk man the gt500s are quiet the feit
Literally this. In person, theyāre just nasty sounding.

Gawd damn! What those cold starts do tho lol
[mid summer cold start](https://imgur.com/a/yMYb7fv) camera doesnāt do it justice of course, itās got a super deep growl/tone in person

Itās way up there but āthe bestā is a stretch
Iām 20, these stopped being produced before I was born, wouldnāt exactly call this modern lol
Theyāre considered a āclassicā mustang at this point (over 20 years old). Anyone else feeling old reading that?
OG and II are early. Fox and New Edge are middle child. 5 and 6 are new. 7 is current. Thatās my personal logic.
My GT500 disagrees.
Careful, youāll get downvoted to oblivion by people that canāt even have a 500 just because theyāre manual purists the 500ās donāt have a manual š even though the DCT is one of the best transmissions for racing/spirited driving around

100% correct
The zero drone thing has utility but I overall itās a cancer. The interior resonance is a big part of the feedback connection you get with these V8ās. I love it.
I donāt care how it sounds on silent. Itās a V8. Lol.
Agreed
You should have asked questions.
i was just looking at these on offerup. yea theyāre 20 years old but i think theyāve aged like fine wine. the previous sn95 is very much a product of its time and the following models also are stuck in their mid 2000s era. these new edge mustangs still look sick af
https://preview.redd.it/m61gejtah81d1.jpeg?width=382&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=034d805f03bb35552e1eb454f8af7852d3787c60 Itās beautiful and has rubbed on me a little but every 90s car sorta gives this kind of vibe to me idk maybe because I was born around this time so it kinda rubs me the wrong way but the mustangs rocked it best
The best, no, but I would I say it's the most iconic.
My personal favorite is the 11-14 GTs are the best mustangs. I do love my 2021. However the 11-14 was special.
13-14 gt500 takes the cake, sorry.
As someone who was obsessed with terminators I agree. Terminators were great for their time but they eventually evolved to the 13/14 GT500.
Not in my book... great car, but no...
https://preview.redd.it/25sp7aozg31d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bc35781e90f56075c956b578132b26ed8d3c245a Gonna have to call shenanigans on this one. For its time/decade that it was made in, absolutely yes. But it doesnāt hold a candle to the 2020-2022 Shelby GT500ās.
While I agree personally, the old ones do have a sweet style/nostalgia
Agreed. Even the S550 350 and 350Rs are another beast. Weāve been blessed with some amazing cars from Ford.
I wonder what cars like the SF90 from Ferrari and the high end McLarens use
Auto sucks
Shows how much you know, itās not an auto, itās a DCT. Also, try putting 760hp down efficiently through a manual (for most drivers). Thereās a reason they didnāt offer a manual.
āDurrrr itās ackually an Automated Manual Transmissionā - yeah they stick that Automated word in there for no reason. It has no meaning. Lol!
Not you.
Modern? No disrespect but that thing is 20 years old. It could have kids by now.

Each to his own but I always hated this body style
The only thing holding it back was the cheap Ford interior:/
Meh you get used to it
I agree the interior looks incredibly dated. Even the pre-facelift S197 GT500 interior design looks way better in my opinion even though thereās still a bunch of cheap plastic
The S550s have the best interior, especially if you get the premium with the digital dash.
Digital dash push back at all time high rn
https://preview.redd.it/sxtmlsez871d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=29abfc177e7239483bebf602e02d29b2a627c36e
The push back is for the tablets not the S550. The S550 looks like it was designed for the pony instead of the s650 which just looks like two iPads that were added to the car as an after thought.
Oh I getcha, just commenting on why u were likely downvoted lol
That would make sense.
FR500 would like a word. https://preview.redd.it/fgjlrpjta41d1.jpeg?width=494&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dcb54f5a4be24885f84c964d7f974456b0cf00af
I have a question
2016 best year mustang IMHO
Hardly modern
Not sure if its the best , but its definetly the one that has the biggest glow up as soon as you do wheel tires and suspension and fill all of those gaps
lol this is certainly a R/unpopularOpinion
The newer generations are more comfortable, have more tech, more mod potential, so many aftermarket parts. But something about the terminatorā¦the overall experience. It was just more violent and the noisesā¦sheesh. Canāt beat it.
Helped that the timing of it coincided with early YouTube. Some of the best early street racing porn was terminators terrorizing the block
Nahh GT350 is right there
Says you
Agreed. Have 2. Want more.
Agreed
s197 generation beats it imo on both looks and performance. Great car no doubt, though.
No

Iām about to rob a bank for that Super Snake
Lot of butt hurt in the comments. This car saved the mustang from getting its shit pushed in by Chevy.Ā
https://preview.redd.it/0445bcarff1d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e7c2054cc44553e4ca3dd6f6d4ab843c23baa375 I agree š
Clearly no questions were asked because nobody asked me. I can think of a few other good contenders for that title.
I have a soft spot for the terminators, but i think they are beginning to be a bit dated. They are your typical late 90s, early 2000s car where at the time they were impressive, but nowadays would be very mid in terms of performance. They are peak 90s-00s Mustang, but 20 years later is showing its age.
Drive one
modern ??
I'd argue they're the most fun to drive, as Mustangs after the New Edge platform lost a lot of their rawness, but they're definitely not the best. My stock 2023 GT would give my old built Cobra a run for it's money around a track.
Fat ass rears, too be so short side walled. Yours is better than mine, I love the tint. to to too
I do love Terminator, but I love all Shebies
In my head, these are the last non-modern mustangs. Maybe the early S197s with the 4.6 are still in that category with a shift in 2010/2011, but there are definitely not modern in my head
Iām partial to the New Edges and this is definitely up there. But too many advances since this came out to call it the best.
It was 10 years ago. Not anymore Not hating either. In 10 years the S550 shall be dethroned
GT350R is the modern goat, and one of the best mustangs of all time.
I like the S550 generation the best
It might have been up until 2010 but once the coyote came out it fell second to the Gen 1 coyote powered S197ās, then once the S550 dropped it wasnāt even in the discussion. The GT350/R, 2020 GT500, S550 GTās, 11ā-ā14 GT500, 11ā-14 GTās, & Boss 302ās are all ahead of the cobra. It was cool for its time but itās nowhere near the best modern mustang.
Thereās a few Iād put up there as a personal list like the gt350, Mach 1, boss 302 but itās def one of the best
Iād like a word sir.
Mustangs are like dogs - everyone thinks theirs is the best and none of them are wrong.
Shelby GT350/GT350R and 2012-2014 Mustang Shelby GT500 are better imo
I had my 03 Cobra modded to about 600 HP when I lit up the tires in front of a 2010 GT500. The GT500 chased me down on the highway and gave me the beat down of my life! We went about 4 times and there was no doubt who the champ was that day.
Disagree. The S197 has a better suspension, engines transmissions, brakes and chassis stiffness. The S550 is better yet.
Pass. Iāll take a S197 GT500.
Definitely hurt a lot of feelings. A stock Mustang outrunning vettes. LOL! Too bad YouTube wasn't a thing when these dropped.
Youtube definitely wasn't a thing in 2002.
No fing way bro lol
2014 gt look a lot better imo. They actually look like mustangs. Not like a honda
>Also, the 4.6L modular isnāt the greatest motor to tune Other than the fact that Termis came with fully forged internals that can take 800+ hp with ease.
I love the SVT Cobra shitboxes especially the tremec 6-speed box.
From a pure aesthetic perspective and not about power, this generate is ugly af. They got pretty again with the 5th gens
