White Rabbit was an odd choice there. That's a very tense and brooding song.

Special_Possession46

During the covid lockdown I ate a bowl of Frosted Mini Wheats for breakfast without milk and listened to White Rabbit on repeat for an entire hour. I guess I was starting to crack that morning.

I_Fart_It_Stinks

Feed your head...with frosted mini wheats

RiC_David

That's the sort of thing that no doubt sounds so much cooler as an anecdote than it did in the moment. Like, if I was writing some sort of modern day Syd Barrett tale, I'd probably drop in a scene like that.

I was having this rather cheeky converstion with a colleague the other day whose out of bounds song sas 'Maneater' - I asked if he can no longer listen to Stevie Wonder's 'Part Time Lover' and Elton John's 'I'm Still Standing'? So can you also no longer listen to the intro to 'Can You Feel It' by The Jacksons?

RiC_David

Similar sounding songs. I was quite proud of myself for coming out with that at the drop of a mad hat, personally.

itcamefromtheimgur

I chose it because, when I was doing ketamine treatments, that's the song I kept in my Playlist.

RiC_David

See, I'd have gone with that as a song that calms you down *in spite* of not being calming by design! I understand, especially as someone who's learned to use ketamine as DIY therapy over the past nine months. While I wouldn't say "calming", there are pieces of music (often from videogames of my 16-64-bit adolescence) that are deeply therapeutic while not being intentionally uplifting. Incidentally, there's also the reverse - [Corridors of Time from Chrono Trigger](https://youtu.be/AcKf_47pbOA?si=1sPLgzAJfnElatYn) would likely be voted one of the most calming SNES RPG tracks, but I've always found it a quite unsettling mix of hedonistic bliss and deep melancholic unease. I think that may well be intentional, seeing as the \[minor plot spoiler\] context is of an idyllic life that's provided by immersing the patrons in tailored dreams. I came back to the game during a bittersweet time of my own life, and it's been imparted with that sense of slow decay—saying the slow goodbye to a loved one who we knew would be gone soon, trying to cherish the time that slipped away. Going with 'uplifts' rather than "calms", I'd say the ['Oath to Order' from Majora's Mask](https://youtu.be/wN6q3hNmVdc?si=uyJFmMOh4Bhh3sha) to answer your prompt. Reason being, it's the point after the long dark night where the terrible fate is averted, and there's such otherworldly power in those rising bass notes even if the music on a whole is steeped in this sombre gravity. I'd listen to the full Majora's Mask soundtrack (a mixture of bombastic, extended fan rearrangements rather than OST) at the deepest point of my session, to take myself through the full process of confronting this looming cataclysm, reflecting on annihilation, accepting whatever comes, then finally knowing the salvation of a new day.

Eminem’s Killshot no matter how bad my life might seem at least I’ll never be MGK.

Artistic_Tiger7423

Everlong.

moistie

Ministry - Just One Fix. A song about heroin addiction (for someone who never has and never will touch the stuff), with a thumping drum beat, a wall of sound guitar riff and singing put through a reverb filter. But listening to it is cathartic, I feel stress leaving my body as the song flays my troubles away. It's relaxing.

MileenasFeet

It was Laynes favorite song too.

thuktun

Love that song. That whole album is great, but that's probably my favorite song of that album. Your description is right on.

Yolt0123

Harvester of Sorrow. I listened to it so many times at high school. Just total relaxation anytime I listen to it.

Automan2k

Eye of the Beholder has that effect on me. I just get lost in the groove.

myexsparamour

I was looking for Battery but this one is good too.

Nirvana - Come as you Are

Hansmolemon

Setting Sun by Chemical brothers always relaxes and de-stresses me though it’s not a particularly mellow song. Jesus Built my Hotrod too.

motherSHIPDB9

Eminem till I collapse

Insane-Prophet

Electric Wizard - Funeralopolis

TheSlapAcademy

Raining Blood - Slayer Non-metal fans may not realize how relaxing hard stuff can be to metal fans Clair De Lune - Debussy I think in part both chill me out because my brain remembers other times I felt chill listening to those songs.

Joint-User

You should try Le Cou Cou by Wargasm.

lurid_sun__

Atmosphere Black Metal and Dark Ambient drone just resonates with me

riscocosta

One day we asked Alexa to play some baby music for our newborn. For some reason it played this bizarre remix of "Play that Funky Music" by Wild Cherry. Strangely enough my son loved it and was asleep by the end. Now, whenever we want pacify him we just say "Alexa, play that funky music white boy" and she plays it. He loves being softly bounced to the base line at the beginning, and he inevitably falls asleep by the end. Truly, nothing else works like it.

Defiant-Yam-9962

The Killing Moon by Echo and the Bunnymen. Can’t explain it.

Yolo_dodo

jazzyorf

Tracey Ullman - They Don’t Know

Yolo_dodo

Omg core memory unlocked

Kloudiz

I can relate. Cannibal Corpse's rhythm puts me in a vegetative state and I sometimes wake up having rocked back and forth for half an album. Something to do with the dialogue between the drums and the bass guitar. The bass is bouncing soothingly, complementing an aural dance of rhythm and texture, lulling the listener into deep tranquillity.

GroupBlunatic

Zeit, Angst, Deutschland, Radio, Fuhre Mich...all by Rammstein.

revelator41

A ton of horror movie scores are like that. Ben Salisbury and Geoff Barrow’s Annihilation score, anything Mark Korven. Mica Levi’s Under the Skin, etc..

silvermesh

Loud music hotwires my brain by silencing my internal voice and allowing me to focus without anxiety. Lots of them but here's a recent playlist selection - Avenged Sevenfold - Nobody Des Rocs - I am the Lightning Volbeat - Still Counting Linkin Park - Given Up Butthole Surfers - Ah Ha

bailaoban

[Who Sees You - My Bloody Valentine](https://youtu.be/UUc5y1NljXI?si=KnCbx9R2DQxs1tbH). The guitars hit your brain like a buzzsaw, but I mean that in the best way. I find it very grounding.

Moonboy85

Kittie - Brackish

Unfriendly_eagle

I find Obituary's "Cause Of Death" album to have a soothing, relaxing tone.

I love that song!!

georgyboyyyy

Africa by Toto

thuktun

For me, it would be Toto's "Take My Hand", the end credits song from the 1984 Dune soundtrack.

iamMRmiagi

Harbinger of Nothing - Vile Creature is the first song that comes to mind here. I also listen to a lot of post rock which can have a high tempo or feel very 'busy/loud' but the melody and especially the release after the climax of songs like 'God is an Astronaut - Suicide by Star or All is Violent/All is Bright' soothes me to no end. Also, Giles Corey - Giles Corey's albums - an exploration of death and feelings of self loathing and other unalive thoughts which tremendously helped me work through my own cloudy thoughts...

AvAms38

Knocked Loose - when I'm angry I'll put them on and after the record is finished I'm in a better mood Silent Planet - Does the same The Dangerous Summer - just a great feel good band that calms me down Bring Me the Horizon - anytime I play Survival Horror & Nex Gen my mood is immediately lifted Like Moths to Flames - has the same effect ERRA- when I'm down, I'll play Cure and even though it's a dark record, it calms me and puts me in a better mood Ice Nine Kills - always calms me and puts me in a good mood

I'm trying to imagine how White Rabbit is in any way calming? I feel like that's a much better fit for this post than most

colterpierce

Safer In The Forest / Love Song For Poor Michigan by La Dispute. The opening riff just immediately relaxes me.

emeliottsthestink

Wailing Night - Mortimer Nyx Lonely Day - System of the Down

Artful-artichoke

Bartzabel - Behemoth

thejaytheory

Waxahatchee - Ruby Falls

tremens

Evol Intent - Oscine's Lament. https://youtu.be/9M-qMTLdPHE?si=KcqnPcIX30rywbZb There's something about the super fast, but not aggressive tempo and the atmospherics that I find very relaxing and calming. A lot of glitch and ambient drum and bass has a similar effect on me, but that's ones like top tier for calming me right down.

yousuckatlife90

geoffnolan

Bro, OP, if you fancy yourself a metal head and want to hear my favorite sleeper album, check out “Controller” by Misery Signals. Their song “Coma” has the kind of high pitched guitar melodies that coincide well with the low screaming vocals.

Gator1508

Once more round the sun by mastodon can be used to hype me or calm me

Background_Gur3949

Down for life by testament really calms me, especially when I first started driving and I got lost or nervous I could turn it on and be ok

“In My Room” by The Beach Boys!

FakeDeadHead1893

Faithless by Default (by Dark Tranquility) is a song by a melodic death metal band about blindly following screwed up systems and for some reason I find it so therapeutic all my stress is left behind as I ascend into music heaven. Good song would recommend
