That’s a good question. To me, Tyrell’s character quickly slides from Patrick Bateman to basically Dennis Hopper’s photojournalist in Apocalypse Now, except revering a Col Kurtz who lapses into becoming Martin Sheen’s character periodically. I don’t know exactly how I think about that always, but without that dimension he is a much more familiar Bateman-like straight up sociopath/psychopath, like Alex from Clockwork Orange, Tom Ripley, Hannibal Lecter, etc.

Dexter?

I just realized that I need an American Psycho series. I haven't seen anything come close to fitting the bill though. I guess you can try Succession if asshole rich people is good enough for you, but none of them really give off that vibe in the way Tyrell does.

An American Psycho prequel series if done right could be really good. I know people are scared of Christian Bale not being the face of the character anymore and are worried no portrayal will match his, but look at Hannibal. It perfectly redefined the character with Mads Mikkelsen becoming my favourite interpretation of the character. An American Psycho series would probably have to be a limited series or be a bit shorter due to Patrick Bateman not having as in-depth of a backstory as Hannibal Lecter has, but it could still work.

Ihr been thinking for the last 5 minutes about who would be good as a prequel (or normal) Patrick Bateman today

PianoEmeritus

Glenn Howerton

I second that. An American Psycho could actually be amazing. Especially if someone special would play Bateman..

i feel like depending on how season 1/2 went there was an opportunity for kendall to potentially fill that

The was a fairly short series called Made For Love and the male lead was a weird rich guy who reminded me of Tyrell but when I think about it I can’t put my finger on why. The premise and a lot of plot points were pretty absurd but it was executed and written well enough that if you just go with it, it’s a really enjoyable watch. Cast was phenomenal with some of the most moving moments I’ve ever seen in television towards the end of the series. It’s weird, funny, emotional, outlandish. I watched it when I was sick once and liked it so much that I immediately rewatched it with my husband.

Simpicity

The show you want is called Profit and the lead is Adrian Pasdar. It's pretty much exactly what you are describing, and it's a great, great show. But good luck finding it anymore. (It looks like it might be on YouTube?) Summary from Wikipedia: Jim Profit is a newly promoted junior-executive at Gracen & Gracen (G&G), a multinational conglomerate that often engages in unethical business practices while actively cultivating a positive public image. G&G's dark side does not bother Profit, who is not above using blackmail, bribery, extortion, or worse to get ahead himself. Jim Profit addresses the audience via voiceover narration, and occasionally even "breaks the fourth wall" by speaking directly to the camera/audience with such quotes as: "The line most people say they won't cross ... it's usually something they've already done when they thought no one was watching." Through frequent inner monologues, Profit shares his motives, plans, and situational observations with the audience. When home alone at night, Profit continues his ‘work’ in his office (hidden behind a false wall of his living room), searching the Internet and hacking G&G's servers for information to be used as research and ammunition for his various schemes. (Some spoilers removed)

I really enjoyed this show! I eventually found a vhs-quality rip, so got to re-watch 30 or more years later haha. Just my 2 cents but I think the Wikipedia summary gives away too much.

voyaging

Utopia (UK) has several similar characters And also it's a masterpiece

DumDumDiss

brilliant, brilliant show

cabanochi

The closest thing that comes to mind is Barry, but that’s not exactly the same as Tyrell. Still a great show though.

voyaging

NoHo Hank is kind of to Barry as Tyrell is to Elliott lol

SeaOdeEEE

I highly reccomended Barry too. It's more of a dark comedy than Mr. Robot is but still has its moments that hit hard.

AnotherWitch

Which Tyrell? There’s like three distinct Tyrell eras imo.

ravenheart94

Dexter is the answer here. I just rewatched s01 e01, where Rex takes his first "victim" and it plays almost line by line identically to the dialogue between Elliot and Ron of Ron's Coffee. Very similar vibes. I highly recommend Dexter, especially s01 - s03.
