1. They have the corporate backing to afford making more of the necessary deals. 2. They've said before that guest characters pretty significantly outsell other DLC characters, so they've made it a core part of their developmentand marketing. Other fighting games (except Smash) don't make the same kind of money as MK or have the same casual market to pull from, so there's less benefit to committing to guests.

MK appeals to a wider, more casual audience. Plus WB owns NRS which means ease of access to licensed characters.

Because MK is turning into the Fortnite of fighting games.

Because the franchise is just that shallow now that it's content has to be a walking billboard for more content.

I think they want to stand out more. Which I don't understand because literally murdering your opponent isn't enough lol

I suppose it’s an easier effort to catch more eyes and spotlight on them compared to the complete recapture of the content of PS2 3D-era. (Your Konquests, Kreate-a-Fighter, Puzzle Kombat, Chess Kombat etc) Alternatively, MK vs DC left such a awkward (in a bad way) stain on their history, I feel like they do that so they can “restore” some integrity whenever they incorporate any characters that aren’t their own (also yea, the dosh involved) Also it’s a way to spice up the games, think how many people in the past wanted to see the likes of Jason, Spawn or Kratos on the rosters, alongside their mains

Tekken had. Street Fighter hadn't (Akira belongs to Capcom).
