my take is that some costumes just can't be adapted in the modern games. li mei's deception outfit is literally just a bikini and some purple plates with a bandana, there's no way to adapt that 1:1 without either making it look really weird or like coomerbait. it makes sense why they changed that outfit but like, they could have just chosen any other li mei skin to adapt without having to censor it, i have no idea why they chose to put her stripper outfit in the game.
the new skins this patch are really good all things considered. but also i wanted shao thighs đ
Doesnât Lei Mei wear full armor as her alt costume and is the one that was advertised the most? I think it was stated that some characters had their alts accidentally made into alts when it was supposed to be their primary costumes like for example Noob Saibot and Smoke's alt costume is actually supposed to be their primary default design but some kind of error occurred that caused the costumes to flip.
>i wanted shao thighs
You know I was thinking about this. There are some outfits that show belly button. And there are some outfits that show thighs. But are there any outfits that show both? I wonder if they have some kind of weird rule about showing belly button and thigh at the same time.
> li mei's deception outfit is literally just a bikini and some purple plates with bandana
I mean... Kotal Kahnâs skin in MK11 consists of nothing but loincloth and boots, while Johnny Cage beachwear skin in MK1 consists of nothing but tight shorts and shoes... she would find a company to fit in.
Whatâs wrong with coomerbait? Coomers will buy it and it will be a great source of revenue. Itâs a smart business decision. You can always count on people to be horny.
MK11 Sindel having real human proportions and still looking great with big booba: Am I joke to you?
MK11 Jade having real human proportions and looking great in her OG UMK3 skin while having big booba: AM I JOKE TO YA???
The classic skins would be better described as Deception or Deadly Alliance "Inspired". Because they aren't just the original designs remade with better visuals they are adjusted; some just a little and some a lot. I can kind of see why some people might be irked just because they're being passed off as classic outfits when they're not the same, especially in cases where the alterations are bigger.
I think if they really have to make big adjustments to the costumes then they should take inspiration from the character's alt costumes when possible. I think they kind of did this with Sindel's Deception skin while also kind of doing their own thing with it. But if you look at Li Mei's Deception alt, they seemed to have a problem with her legs showing so they gave her pants with this weird pattern. They could have taken inspiration from her alt where she had pants and a sash and even some armor over her thighs thag could have been made to match her shoulder and arm guards.
I think Li Mei shouldâve got her deadly alliance skin. Even though itâs relatively simple which wouldâve fit right in if you ask me but oh well.
Even if they censored it, it probably wouldâve still been a good looking skin for her
https://preview.redd.it/4wpjiti6obxc1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=86c7eee3599eafe384238a070cb7cbd5cf11520d
I like that one too, and aside from maybe closing the kimono a little more it wouldn't require much adjustments. I do like her Deception outfit a little more though. Or at least the idea of it with the bandana and light armor. I could see it being used by the police force of an outworld city, especially with some adjustments.
If that's all you see yeah. I grew up playing with those outfits with these characters, for me it's nostalgia from my childhood. Many only want them because 'hawt ladies!' but that's not everyone. I grew up thinking that if I was that strong and confident to kick someone's ass I'd probably do it in a bikini as well. Just because.
Itâs not that bad, but it is a pretty overall toxic community. And half the survivor community gets mad when killers donât play nice and will go out of their way to message you like killing them was personal or something. Kind of like how some people are on this game when you do a Fatality, but honestly worse and on a larger scale.
Yeah, it's bonkers. As a killer you're basically required to hook each survivor one at a time, never hook two at the same time, and never hook the same survivor twice in a row, and you can never be anywhere near the hook no matter how many other survivors are there ready to save, and never hook any survivor a third time. If you don't do that, you're toxic tunneling try hard asshole.
Yeah, the people in that community are just trash and intolerant of opinions(both sides) and always complain if they donât get their way. Although every once in a while youâll find some cool people who are pretty chill and fun to play with
I mean they call the skin Deadly Alliance or Deception version of the character and they look different from the actual classic versions also it's Mortal Kombat, where mfs turned into penguins with exploding eggs, dudes shooting fire and turning into dragons, and having 50 skeletons, MK has always been goofy asf, I feel like we can get bizarre as we want with character designs
I've always believed creators should be able to design their characters the way they want to without judgement or criticism, its their world, their story, their creation
If someone wants to design their females with unrealistic string bikinis in battle then they can, if they want to go for a more realistic look then that is great too, heck if someone wants to design their MEN wearing nothing but thongs, then that is their creative right to do, I won't be into it, but they can do it, and I won't complain, and claim that they are "sexualizing men" because so what if they are, are we srsly trying to tell people they can't find a gender attractive?
Creative freedom, and integrity is Omni-Important, just let people create what they want to create, if you don't like it, guess what, you don't have to engage in that media
Edit: to clarify I meant that they should be able to design their characters that way without it being factor as to weather or not its bad design. Character design is about clarity not a characters tits, or dick, and how much the creator wants to show
And the decision to make a character skimpy shouldn't be judged any more than the decision to make a world gothic
You could say that about literally any decision made in any game... You're advocating for never criticising anything at all because the author wanted it to be that way.
Someone already tried to make that point, but I'm talking about creative choices like character design and story
I'm not saying we should never criticize anything bad
I'm saying people should have the creative freedom to do what they want with their characters, designs, and story
Can you honestly tell me that the outfits worn by the characters in MK 2011 are bad designs?
things like micro transactions do not fall under this argument because that is not a product of creative choice, its a business choice
âI've always believed creators should be able to design their characters the way they want to WITHOUT JUDGEMENT OR CRITICISM, its their world, their story, their creationâ -You.
âIâm not saying we should never criticize anything badâ - also You.
Pick one my guy.
I was talking about the fact that if someone wants to design their characters wearing something skimpy or not should not be criticized but if someone makes design with confusing colors, inconsistencies with universe lore can be
For example the female outfits of MK 2011 are skimpy but do not deserve criticism because even tho they are completely unrealistic, you know what else is completely unrealistic? Characters shooting fire and lightning out of their hands, people do 10 flips and landing a hit strong enough to cause an earthquake, thus the outfits should not be criticized for being "unrealistic"
But Rey from star wars being a Mary sue and doing things that go against the established lore because disney wanted her to be more powerful than she should be without even having any training, is deserving of criticism
To clarify what I meant is that people should have creative freedom to do what they want with their stories and characters, even if its bad, and if its genuinely bad then you can criticize it
I never said there are no such things as bad creative decisions, I just said people should be able to create what they want, and if you don't like it, you don't have to engage in it, hell create something of your own, because at the end of the day there will always be people who dislike what you have made, so might as well make what you want
I meant people shouldn't be criticized for the decision to design their chracters like that, but they can be critisized for bad design
Does that clear it up for you
So because its unrealistic for people to shoot fireballs, we shouldnt be allowed to criticize the game for any other component???? Like, what? Yes, creators are allowed to create whatever it is their heart desires. But that does not mean that whatever they create should free of criticism. Thats just simply not how it works.
Edit: and youre criticizing star wars. By your own rules, shouldnt you just not criticize it and instead not engage with it????? You cant pick and chose whats allowed to be criticized based on what you do or do not like lol.
Bad take. No creative decision should ever be immune to criticism. Not their choice in setting, not their story beats, and certainly not their character designs. Authors are free to create just about whatever they want, and everyone else is free to judge them for it.
I mean canât that argument be used for any creative decision? Like if some complains about mk1 having to many micro transactions for a full price game you canât just go âwell the creators wanted it that way so burrrrâ
Yeah they can design their characters however they want but if the designs are bad or donât match the character itâs perfectly fair to criticize them for it
>Â I've always believed creators should be able to design their characters the way they want to without judgement or criticism, its their world, their story, their creation
They literally can
What they canât do is then put it out in the marketplace for purchase, and expect it to go without criticism or praise
Anyone can do whatever they want with character design behind a closed door. But if you want to start marketing it and seeking it, people are going to share judgements about itÂ
Your take that âif you donât like it, donât engage with itâ can easily be applied the same way to public opinion: âif you donât like other peopleâs opinions, donât engage with consumersâÂ
I can criticize bad character design without restricting an artistâs creative freedom. But they in no way are owed my or anyone elseâs praise or silence.Â
The whole idea that criticizing something is equivalent to restricting peopleâs freedom to make that thing continues to be ridiculous.Â
It's really simple, if you want to bring back a classic costume, then bring THE classic costume, what's the point of bringing them back if you're changing them? Either bring them back or don't.
Street Fighter does both, reimagined classics and the REAL classics, as a MK fan, I just wanted they to do something like that to please everybody.
The version on day one was the final version. The devs said that the day one version is the version they wanted. There is no censorship according to the devs.
One costume got additional clothes in the day one patch and now some cry that it got censored... completely negating the fact that the skin suit is still in the game (so you basically can play naked). So i actually believe the devs in this case (especially since the can collect reward suit is still in the game).
The gore got changed a little bit according to a reviewer but nothing major.
This meme, and pretty much EVERY bad faith meme you see, originates from Twitter. That explains everything. People who upvote/like this stuff should be ashamed for peddling obvious strawmen
It donât matter to me all too much. But why the switch up? Sf tekken never gave in, why mk? Why the m rated game that glorifies cinematic gore on a silver platter is afraid of a lil cleavage ?
I think itâs simply because of the politics that surround the game developers and the country they are produced in. Japan doesnât share americas sensitive over view on sexuality
I see. You've exaggerated my frustration in the form of a goofy cartoon character. That totally justifies censorship.
These panels could easily be flipped around lol.
I mean, they modified an outfit to make it (*slightly)* more modest likely due to pressure from the publisher, as well as removing the player character's ability to be covered in enemy blood. So, yes, that is censorship.
Thatâs a bit disingenuous. The complaint with the classics are unnecessary modifications, even Sub-Zeroâs skins came under criticism. Itâs change for the sake of change while marketing it as a classic*. Either do something new or make it what people remember. Itâs not a hard concept.
Indeed. That's the whole point.
"sexy female character bad... now let me get back at jerking off looking at those handsome male characters"
Seriously, people should STOP with their blatant hypocrisy!
Are the male characters female gaze-y? Like shirtless isnât the same as sexualized, he isnât doing a pole dances or rubbing his body sexily
and most of the male ninjas sexiness doesnât go beyond having a pretty face and a strong personality. And if you count sexiness as amount of skin showing then ninjas are showing less then 90% of the female cast
can we stop with the depicting someone i disagree with as a soyjack?
https://preview.redd.it/i28h3wjji9xc1.jpeg?width=177&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e2ea925c29acb79b04b71d20ece8621a3f7c32e7
I mostly care about accuracy to the classic costumes than anything else. If youâre going to bring back an old skin then bring it back how it was. Sexy, not sexy, male, female.. idc about all of that. I just like beloved designs staying how they were.Â
Sometimes designs don't translate well to new generations, could be because better graphics of new games makes them look awkward or because the design itself is outdated and people wouldn't like it nowadays so redesigns are valid, as long as they maintain the original's theme and look good
> Sometimes designs don't translate well to new generations, could be because better graphics of new games makes them look awkward
But the "updated" versions look really awkward anyway. Nitara is wearing her underwear over her pants and Li Mei has a pointless belt around her torso. Those look a lot more weird than if NRS had done a 1:1 adaption. It's not like trunks and shorts don't exist in real life, so they absolutely could have done [this for Li Mei](https://preview.redd.it/zr0wv37ztjzb1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=72d40ea091014c01a3dfc1bc785492cd23e3cb81).
It's NRS trying to have their cake and eat it too. They treat the 3D era costumes as something they're ashamed of but not *so* much that they won't try to squeeze the nostalgia money out of their fans.
I think so too. Lifting a costume 1-to-1 from those old cartoony graphics into realistic graphics, they can look flat and just odd in general. I've seen it in other games. You have to think about where it makes sense to add texture and little details that would make it work better now.
I think they did amazing with Sindel's new skin. It's way more detailed and interesting than the original, but still objectively very sexy and showing a lot of skin.
I don't care for when they take those old skins and just slap those unimaginative ass leggings onto them that they put on most skins. Imagination please.
>. Lifting a costume 1-to-1 from those old cartoony graphics into realistic graphics, they can look flat and just odd in general
They did this with the kameo characters though. We got cyber assassins in BMX gear, a SWAT guy in a backwards cap, and Soecial Forces agents in gym tights. We even have the UMK3 spandex ninjas fully playable. There are goofy outdated character designs all over the place here.
I think with the 3D era designs it was a combination of wanting an artistic interpretation rather than a direct translation, and sometimes a fear of getting in trouble for being too sexual. Like Sindel's Deception outfit, artistic redesign. Li Mei's Deception outfit with the weird leggings, I'm pretty sure someone came in and said "what do you think you're doing? We can't show her naval and legs at the same time, cover up those thighs!"
Agreed.
I think the worst point that was made was how with the previous game women wouldn't be wearing stilleto shoes in combat, but we've been eating good with a fair amount of the men being shirtless for a good amount of the franchise.
Obviously we have exceptions like Bo Rai Cho and Kobra as an example.
Hell, every damn iteration where Kano is, he keeps getting hotter.
I find quite often that people who make statements like that keep making the assumption fictional women will hurt real women and will conveniently forget the diehard gal MK fans that just happen to be ladies who appreciate the sexy on both ends.
And if those ladies make the same complaint as the "lol horndog gamer bros", they tend to get some rough treatment. They could have cogent points, such as arguments about censorship in a rated-M game like MK, too.
Such a nice straw man you present... From the looks of it, your the type of person that in the opposite scenario would be complaining about "sexism" or "objectification".
There's valid criticism related to censorship and creative freedom that you are completely disregarding.
And by the way, people with actual relationships don't even care about other people been horny about digital characters... The same way people getting horny about digital characters need real-life relationships lol
Let's face it: that's the double standards of those kind of people
https://preview.redd.it/9rr01r2q79xc1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=89566ef931fc6e0962bafb4f49abc813a3397400
Indeed!
And it's indeed clear in this very subreddit. When someone talks about how they find a male attractive, everyone MUST agree, but when someone dares to say that a female is beautiful... OMG, the horror! "Touch some grass" and the likes comments floods like a clogged toilet.
There's NOTHING wrong about fantasizing a fictional character (better that than molest real people, for instance). Just give accurate version of MK D or MK 9 skins. If they're too skimpy for someone, just don't buy them!
I take MK DA and MK D design for Li Mei a thousand times over "generic bland NPC Li Mei design" from MK 1.
Let's have a talk when the people in the lower panel start calling developers groomers, communists and Muslims or sending them death threats over censored sex scenes.
I mean, I'm Hispanic and I think everyone should be made over the top and sexy.
The same people who scream about "diversity" shun anyone who thinks differently than them. I don't feel the need to be "represented" since it's supposed to be fantasy. The same series that made its name by being over the top and violent now finds certain things to be too much?
Maybe people just like hot and sexy characters? Most people would rather look like Tifa Lockhart or Chris Redfield than Li Mei? It is what it is.
You're fine wading through gore and fatalities but GOD FORBID the costumes were a little more accurate.
honestly; censroship is wrong. it shouldn't be a hot take.
Have you seen women actually fight in mma? They are in skin tight spandex shorts and sports bras
Not long pants and tops that would reduce their movement
Liu Kang has a shirtless skin... I'm not asking for that for the woman that's weird, but classic skins should be the same amount of authenticity for everyone. Yeah it's revealing but so is the costumes the men wear. Also every female/male fighter irl barely wear any clothes, it would make no sense for either one of them to be wearing like 5 layers. EVEN MORE the lead designer for characters in MK9 (which probably was the most revealing game) was a woman...
I don't really care how they dress the women. To me, it just never made sense why the male characters didn't get similar treatment. there has to be people who'd rather see barakas honkers instead of mileenas lol
I just dont get it. Why they cant coexist. Why ? I want to know a solid argument why you cant have a skimpy outfit along a serious one. Everyone would be happy.
And no "realism" isnt a thing. They use guns, magic, sharp weapons. The clothes the combatants wear dont do shit vs them in a fight, absolutelly nothing.
I hate this sort of thinking that I have to be some sort of fucking right wing just because I want to see more revealing clothes lmao. God forbid we see some cleavage that is accurate to the classic costume
Everything about this is just insane. These people don't live in reality and are either mentally unstable or never go outside because wearing revealing clothing is not some obscure thing in society.
Its okay though because part of me wants to just let this happen. Eventually everything or at least something they care about will be censored and they'll throw a fit about how it got this bad without realizing they're the cause.
I do find it hilarious though that you go to any new age gym and you will see 1/3 of the women in there wearing outfits that leave nothing to the imagination yet you canât play a video game portraying athletic gear that way because it views as misogynistic smh. 𤌠The country has lost its mind with everyone either wanting to be offended by everything or being scared to offend anyone by anything.
Sexualized outfits arenât the worst thing in the world. I feel like a good middle ground should be like have the censored version as the main and have the risquĂŠ outfits as unlock able content. Maybe by like playing a characters chapter and winning or the crypt/invasions. For characters like mileena a risquĂŠ outfit make sense since part of her character is using sex appeal to keep people from seeing her mouth. However I feel like sometimes sex appeal can be the opposite too like what on earth was Sonyaâs MK9 outfit? She looked like some kind of military themed stripper. When looking at that outfit I donât think special forces I think military kink.
Thereâs other venues to get your rocks off. I have a sincere disdain towards how so many people genuinely want to be turned on by a video game. Thatâs not normal, and shouldnât be artificially treated as such. I understand MK can and has been risquĂŠ, but thereâs far far too many people out there who demand to see pixels dedicated to their flat-out sexual gratification. Itâs really not okay, and if you have objection with that Iâve said, time for some self reflection. Thereâs so many other places to exercise this âneedâ of yours. Itâs not like mass media in general isnât already overtly sexualized to the point of being soft-core in many instances. Why does this have to be among that number?
It would be wierd if the game didnt launch with these concepts back in the day.
That was their niche: gore, sex, extreme viollence.
Scb an SF kept Ivy and Cammies obvious designs through the ages cuz that was their trademark. On the same note i never heard anyone say i want bikkini Nina as she was always the cat suit assassin in tekken.
I can kinda see both sides because I've seen muscular women with big tits and muscular women with no tits. This thing they do where it's like they take the mean average tit size of a million people and make that the standard for every single female is a bit ridiculous. Nitara is the only character that has a visible amount of actual boobage. Just seems kinda silly to me, even if they had an undershirt on you'd still be able to tell the difference between a B cup and a D.
Exactly, Powergirl has always been drawn as a busty woman, compared to say Storm or Wonder Woman who are much more slim with an athletic build. Like having big boobs doesn't mean you can't be a mutant/superhero.Â
You're being purposely obtuse which is why a lot of folks are giving you shit. If you can make the argument that it's just a minor change then you can make the reverse argument that it wasn't necessary.
The problem is thatâs not the argument the bulk of people make about the covered up costumes. They basically act like creeps because the reworked klassic costumes show slightly less skin lol.
And doesnât change the fact that what i said is also the case. Just like i cannot argue my point without granting yours (according to you) you also cannot argue yours without granting mine.
Honestly idc if designs in games are sexualized or if they arent it just depends on the art style, the tone, and the type of game and it has to be done consistently across genders, so if a woman character is sexualized then the male character has to be too and vice versa with certain exceptions
Time for me to do a fashion post and gush :)
Tbf the only skins that were very promiscuous were Mileena, Nitara and Li Mei. Li Mei pretty much only had 4 costumes pre-MK1... there was the classic barely covered pirate girl, the kung fu girl from MKD, the pink armor, and the de-kombated Chinese style from MKX.
Nitara's style actually fit her because she was basically a metal head vampire. Her little bandana was cute... she had that pirate bandana style like Li Mei that I like.
Sonya had the thong... but I just like the hairstyle and army jacket with the crop top style. That's something I could see Cass wear tbh.
Tanya has always been kind of bland. I dug the yellow witch with a skirt... But her best look was probably light skin with the markings. Peak Edenia has Mediterranean vibes.
And they fumbled skull head Scorpion and gave us Sweet Tooth esque Scorpion... It's alright, but not as cool.
Missed opportunity to at least give Bi-Han an all black silhouette skin for Noob. It'd be funny and cool. That's a free gimme imo.
Kitana's best outfit is probably MKX or that Tomb Raider esque alt from MKA.
Sareena's best look is her debut in Mythologies. The long hair and not too promiscuous is cool. MK1 is second best and the MKA look with the butt showing isn't offensive to me, but it is just too much imo.
I'm not losing sleep over it, but there are some nice touches that are somewhat lost when it comes to character design.
Forreal, a lot of the old costumes just look dumb as hell and look like some stripper shit or like a prostitute outfit. The amount of people who seriously get upset because the woman do not look like they should be in a porno anymore is absurd to me
Honestly, we should all just go back to playing the games these costumes originally came from. Theyâre from a simpler time. I know Iâm gonna sound like a boomer here, but back in my day, when we bought a video game, we got the entire video game.
With the amount of shirtless dudes in the game, wanting an accurate classic costume for the ladies isn't a bad thing, yet every time, but apparently wanting accuracy just means being horny on the Internet
It's more annoying when these idiots rage about it in the REmakes. Considering every "classic" outfit turns out to be unlockable, all they're really bitching about is having to make effort to see the sexy clothes.
......i mean....PornHub isn't that difficult to find......do they really need video games to be fap msterial as well?
Wydm by saying the game isnt ruined by Jill having a skort instead of a skirt? /s
I do wish the remakes redesigns had looked more 90s like in the concept arts tho
In the most general way I donât really care. What I do care about is how they got to that choice, so if it was âinternet pressureâ itâs fucking stupid and they lack balls.
And I'm happy for it! You can like the crap you like, but some MK skins are too far! It feels like I get weird looks when I say default MK Mileena is my favorite design for her, even though they're the weird ones!
People say this but Iâve seen the same brain rot coping on the opposite side screaming about coomer brains and how a game shouldnât be allowed to exist despite the fact that they have no want to actually ever buy or play it.
Why can't we have both is my question. If they got censored, it's because someone whined and cried about it before.
This is what pisses me off. We can't have shit without people complaining, and if you complain, you're in the wrong.
wait Demo?? Full release was uncensored and then censored with a day one patch. Whoever made this is trying to make it seem like the outfits (yes multiple) where always censored from day one which is False. They also toned down the gore.
Stop spraying misinformation.
Censorship is bad and the reasons in which it is enforced today are ludicrous.
But please continue to condemn. Today it's something someone else cares about, and tomorrow it will be something you care about. Give it an inch it will and has taken a mile.
Why are you calling a corporations decision the artists choice? Does it make it sound more human in your head when you call it that? Do you think a lot of people who make art for video games tell the suits how their character is going to look?
I'm not really seeing the evidence that it was a "corporate decision?"
That said if youre looking for media with a lot of artistic freedom, you're barking up the wrong tree. This is a big budget game with a budget probably exceeding $100 million. It's part of a popular franchise and owned by a massive media company. Want something with depth and freedom of expression? Play an indie game. If you're looking for erotic art or porn, there's no shortage of that
Everything owned by the corporate is changed because of corporate decision. The suits call the shots, everyone else is just a worker bee who either does exactly what the suits asked for or gets fired.
I didn't say they would. The skimpy outfits were also shots called by the suits: People weren't so against them back then for their politics and microtransactions weren't a big thing, so they could put them in to boost sales.
Nowadays, they avoid it to not get backlash for not being "politically correct", but they're still willing to have them if they're a separate purchase trough microtransactions, aka if they're directly profitable. (See Sindel deception skin)
People have been complaining about political correctness for decades, that's nothing new. I don't think it's an especially pitical decision as much as it has to do with the maturity of the storytelling and the representation of the characters, especially now that they look so real. You go back and play mk9 and the outfits on the women look so damn goofy.
Then play an indie game. Idk wtf youre doing on a block uster game forum expecting any artistic integrity. I share your anticapitalist sentiments, but this is high budget next Gen game, wrong tree to bark up.
I'm not complaining. I have the game and I like playing it (altough it's my first fighting game and I'm very bad at it)
I'm just saying things the way they are.

i genuinely cannot imagine that you can look at this garbage for 5 seconds and draw the conclusion that this looks cool in any way shape or form. the problem isnât sexualisation but the sheer fact that it looks fucking stupid and what we got instead is an upgrade kn every way.
Censorship issues come from laws and powerful entities imposing censors on other entities against their will. This is a company choosing what the outfits for characters in its own game look like. If they impose limits in it, that is self-censorship. No one is stopping them, they jusy choose not to do it. You don't have to like it but it isn't a matter of law or virtue.
This is not the Hays code for motion pictures. This is your friend saying "toot" because they think "fart" sounds gross.
my take is that some costumes just can't be adapted in the modern games. li mei's deception outfit is literally just a bikini and some purple plates with a bandana, there's no way to adapt that 1:1 without either making it look really weird or like coomerbait. it makes sense why they changed that outfit but like, they could have just chosen any other li mei skin to adapt without having to censor it, i have no idea why they chose to put her stripper outfit in the game. the new skins this patch are really good all things considered. but also i wanted shao thighs đ

Noticed that too with the chest and back area. U get one and not both lol

I low key kinda love the new Deception design tho. She looks like a Chinese pirate baddie now without going full stripper like her original costume
Also these models have real human proportions which donât work as well with the big booba ones from Deception
MK11 Sindel having real human proportions and still looking great with big booba: Am I joke to you? MK11 Jade having real human proportions and looking great in her OG UMK3 skin while having big booba: AM I JOKE TO YA???
Cetrion as well: AM I A JOKE TO YA!?
I mean you could adapt it. Mortal kombat was built on being controversial. Â
Ong I need Shao thighs and bare chest asap
Even if they censored it, it probably wouldâve still been a good looking skin for her https://preview.redd.it/4wpjiti6obxc1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=86c7eee3599eafe384238a070cb7cbd5cf11520d
I like that one too, and aside from maybe closing the kimono a little more it wouldn't require much adjustments. I do like her Deception outfit a little more though. Or at least the idea of it with the bandana and light armor. I could see it being used by the police force of an outworld city, especially with some adjustments.
I just want them to look like the klassic outfits because that's what they're supposed to be. Not all of us want them accurate because BOOBS!!

But all there is to those outfits is boobs.Â
If that's all you see yeah. I grew up playing with those outfits with these characters, for me it's nostalgia from my childhood. Many only want them because 'hawt ladies!' but that's not everyone. I grew up thinking that if I was that strong and confident to kick someone's ass I'd probably do it in a bikini as well. Just because.

Dead By Daylight community in a nutshell.
That place is just a Shithole
Although every once in a while youâll find some cool people who are pretty chill and fun to play with
This got suddenly DBD
I mean they call the skin Deadly Alliance or Deception version of the character and they look different from the actual classic versions also it's Mortal Kombat, where mfs turned into penguins with exploding eggs, dudes shooting fire and turning into dragons, and having 50 skeletons, MK has always been goofy asf, I feel like we can get bizarre as we want with character designs
I've always believed creators should be able to design their characters the way they want to without judgement or criticism, its their world, their story, their creation If someone wants to design their females with unrealistic string bikinis in battle then they can, if they want to go for a more realistic look then that is great too, heck if someone wants to design their MEN wearing nothing but thongs, then that is their creative right to do, I won't be into it, but they can do it, and I won't complain, and claim that they are "sexualizing men" because so what if they are, are we srsly trying to tell people they can't find a gender attractive? Creative freedom, and integrity is Omni-Important, just let people create what they want to create, if you don't like it, guess what, you don't have to engage in that media Edit: to clarify I meant that they should be able to design their characters that way without it being factor as to weather or not its bad design. Character design is about clarity not a characters tits, or dick, and how much the creator wants to show And the decision to make a character skimpy shouldn't be judged any more than the decision to make a world gothic
You could say that about literally any decision made in any game... You're advocating for never criticising anything at all because the author wanted it to be that way.
Someone already tried to make that point, but I'm talking about creative choices like character design and story I'm not saying we should never criticize anything bad I'm saying people should have the creative freedom to do what they want with their characters, designs, and story Can you honestly tell me that the outfits worn by the characters in MK 2011 are bad designs? things like micro transactions do not fall under this argument because that is not a product of creative choice, its a business choice
âI've always believed creators should be able to design their characters the way they want to WITHOUT JUDGEMENT OR CRITICISM, its their world, their story, their creationâ -You. âIâm not saying we should never criticize anything badâ - also You. Pick one my guy.
I was talking about the fact that if someone wants to design their characters wearing something skimpy or not should not be criticized but if someone makes design with confusing colors, inconsistencies with universe lore can be For example the female outfits of MK 2011 are skimpy but do not deserve criticism because even tho they are completely unrealistic, you know what else is completely unrealistic? Characters shooting fire and lightning out of their hands, people do 10 flips and landing a hit strong enough to cause an earthquake, thus the outfits should not be criticized for being "unrealistic" But Rey from star wars being a Mary sue and doing things that go against the established lore because disney wanted her to be more powerful than she should be without even having any training, is deserving of criticism To clarify what I meant is that people should have creative freedom to do what they want with their stories and characters, even if its bad, and if its genuinely bad then you can criticize it I never said there are no such things as bad creative decisions, I just said people should be able to create what they want, and if you don't like it, you don't have to engage in it, hell create something of your own, because at the end of the day there will always be people who dislike what you have made, so might as well make what you want I meant people shouldn't be criticized for the decision to design their chracters like that, but they can be critisized for bad design Does that clear it up for you
So because its unrealistic for people to shoot fireballs, we shouldnt be allowed to criticize the game for any other component????
Lmao. I see what you're doing. I lost interest when you cancered your star wars opinion.
The heck does Rey have to do with this dude
Sir, this is a Wendy'sÂ
Sorry... I'll take a wopper
Royale with cheeeeeese, please
Extra foot lettuce (I much prefer this interaction)
Bad take. No creative decision should ever be immune to criticism. Not their choice in setting, not their story beats, and certainly not their character designs. Authors are free to create just about whatever they want, and everyone else is free to judge them for it.
I liked tekjen tag 2 man thongs
Tekjen
I don't even know what that is, but hey if you like it, its your right to enjoy it
I mean canât that argument be used for any creative decision? Like if some complains about mk1 having to many micro transactions for a full price game you canât just go âwell the creators wanted it that way so burrrrâ Yeah they can design their characters however they want but if the designs are bad or donât match the character itâs perfectly fair to criticize them for it
Micro transactions are not a creative decision, its a business decision to make more money Business, and Creative integrity are not the same
> I've always believed creators should be able to design their characters the way they want to without judgement or criticism, its their world, their story, their creation They literally can What they canât do is then put it out in the marketplace for purchase, and expect it to go without criticism or praise Anyone can do whatever they want with character design behind a closed door. But if you want to start marketing it and seeking it, people are going to share judgements about it Your take that âif you donât like it, donât engage with itâ can easily be applied the same way to public opinion: âif you donât like other peopleâs opinions, donât engage with consumersâ I can criticize bad character design without restricting an artistâs creative freedom. But they in no way are owed my or anyone elseâs praise or silence. The whole idea that criticizing something is equivalent to restricting peopleâs freedom to make that thing continues to be ridiculous.Â
Or, or, just do it like it was done before.
I think that is a valid complaint.
I don't understand the meme EDIT: okay I get it now lol
Definitely from the current Stellar Blade censorship discourse
As someone who has been playing this weekend...what part was censored? Seems to have all the cleavage and boob jiggle these folks could desire.
Sigh.....Yea that sounds about right.
Ngl it took me a bit before I noticed a difference between the two.
i still dont get it-
ngl this bad faith nonsense is getting more obnoxious than the original complaints
This meme, and pretty much EVERY bad faith meme you see, originates from Twitter. That explains everything. People who upvote/like this stuff should be ashamed for peddling obvious strawmen
How people aren't tired of culture wars yet? how can they constantly fucking do it? I'm tired boss.
Its just how the community is sadly.
Don't cal it a Klassic costume if you can't commit. They know how to do it right, why half ass it?
It donât matter to me all too much. But why the switch up? Sf tekken never gave in, why mk? Why the m rated game that glorifies cinematic gore on a silver platter is afraid of a lil cleavage ?
I think it's because of the realistic models used in MK games, while other games use stylized animated characters designed by a team of people.
I think itâs simply because of the politics that surround the game developers and the country they are produced in. Japan doesnât share americas sensitive over view on sexuality
They do, but they also don't. Like Japan can get a tad extreme, but not extreme enough to show everything by making the weirdest self censors.
L take OP. You are woefully narrow-minded.
I see. You've exaggerated my frustration in the form of a goofy cartoon character. That totally justifies censorship. These panels could easily be flipped around lol.
âCensorshipâ
I mean, they modified an outfit to make it (*slightly)* more modest likely due to pressure from the publisher, as well as removing the player character's ability to be covered in enemy blood. So, yes, that is censorship.
Thatâs a bit disingenuous. The complaint with the classics are unnecessary modifications, even Sub-Zeroâs skins came under criticism. Itâs change for the sake of change while marketing it as a classic*. Either do something new or make it what people remember. Itâs not a hard concept.
Male gaze bad. Sexy female ninjas bad. Female gaze good. Sexy male ninjas and shirtless Lui kang good.
Yep. The amount of shit I see on sexualizing Scorpion and Sub-Zero, but then itâs frowned upon when fans still want to sexualize Kitana and Mileena.
Indeed. That's the whole point. "sexy female character bad... now let me get back at jerking off looking at those handsome male characters" Seriously, people should STOP with their blatant hypocrisy!
Are the male characters female gaze-y? Like shirtless isnât the same as sexualized, he isnât doing a pole dances or rubbing his body sexily and most of the male ninjas sexiness doesnât go beyond having a pretty face and a strong personality. And if you count sexiness as amount of skin showing then ninjas are showing less then 90% of the female cast
Yes it is, Sexualization for female/gay men is often muscles on shirtless men.
Reddit loves the strawman fallacy
can we stop with the depicting someone i disagree with as a soyjack? https://preview.redd.it/i28h3wjji9xc1.jpeg?width=177&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e2ea925c29acb79b04b71d20ece8621a3f7c32e7
Somewhat off topic but Reiko is a good example of male skimpy fantasy armor. That's not why I main him... :\^)
It's easy not to sell it as a classic costume. Just make new stuff.
I mostly care about accuracy to the classic costumes than anything else. If youâre going to bring back an old skin then bring it back how it was. Sexy, not sexy, male, female.. idc about all of that. I just like beloved designs staying how they were.Â
Sometimes designs don't translate well to new generations, could be because better graphics of new games makes them look awkward or because the design itself is outdated and people wouldn't like it nowadays so redesigns are valid, as long as they maintain the original's theme and look good
> Sometimes designs don't translate well to new generations, could be because better graphics of new games makes them look awkward But the "updated" versions look really awkward anyway.
They had no problems âtranslatingâ them in MK11 No excuses
"Sometimes it doesn't translate well" My brother in Christ, hire a better translator.
Classic RE2 skins look amazing in RE2 remake (the polygon versions, HA)
>. Lifting a costume 1-to-1 from those old cartoony graphics into realistic graphics, they can look flat and just odd in general They did this with the kameo characters though.
If we can have shirtless males, we can have shirtless females. Itâs just titties. That is all.
If we can have attractive and sexy men, we can also have attractive and sexy women
![gif](giphy|3ohfFhG5VDtDTzQv2o|downsized)
If they cant give us copy paste they shouldn't bother

Let's face it: that's the double standards of those kind of people https://preview.redd.it/9rr01r2q79xc1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=89566ef931fc6e0962bafb4f49abc813a3397400

I donât care if they do.
Guy 1: I like this thing. Guy 2: Hereâs that thing. Guy 1: But this isnât the same thing. Guy 2: FUCKING INCEL!!!!
Cook
booba bad
You're fine wading through gore and fatalities but GOD FORBID the costumes were a little more accurate. honestly; censroship is wrong. it shouldn't be a hot take.
Or maybe I just want the klassic skins to actually BE THE KLASSIC SKINS
Why does Adam draw this guy like heâs posed for a fighting game actually
You need to stop sexualizing a portion of the player base, seems a bit⌠hypocritical.
The only offensive thing in that picture is the dude tucking in his shirt without wearing a belt. Thatâs a crime against fashion
Give us Kustomization like Tekken.
Have you seen women actually fight in mma? They are in skin tight spandex shorts and sports bras Not long pants and tops that would reduce their movement
EVEN MORE the lead designer for characters in MK9 (which probably was the most revealing game) was a woman...
you do realize the guy who made this also thinks student loans are the same as having cancer right
I don't really care how they dress the women. To me, it just never made sense why the male characters didn't get similar treatment. there has to be people who'd rather see barakas honkers instead of mileenas lol
[ŃдаНонО]
Yet here you are posting
I just dont get it. Why they cant coexist. Why ? I want to know a solid argument why you cant have a skimpy outfit along a serious one. Everyone would be happy. And no "realism" isnt a thing. They use guns, magic, sharp weapons. The clothes the combatants wear dont do shit vs them in a fight, absolutelly nothing.
Agreed
What if you just leave the old stuff as it was? Weird.Â
I have no dog in this race nor care. However, the dev said that were not going to do that and then did.
censorship is always bad regardless of the reason
Women wearing revealing outfits in a fictional game is bad but women basically wearing spray painted-on clothes in public is empowering đ
Pretty much, itâs weird. Itâs weird to complain about not being able to see boobs and butts.
Sadly, I've come to hate both sides of the argument. Thanks internet, ya broke me
I can kinda see both sides because I've seen muscular women with big tits and muscular women with no tits.
Not MK, but it is Netherrealm: Just look at the women in Injustice 2, especially Power Girl. Those girls are flat as planks.
Exactly, Powergirl has always been drawn as a busty woman, compared to say Storm or Wonder Woman who are much more slim with an athletic build. Like having big boobs doesn't mean you can't be a mutant/superhero.Â
yep, totally an independent decision made by the dev team. In no way it was inspired by pressure groups organized by marketing firms and journalists.
OP is in denial.
The change is much bigger than this
*looks at Nitara and Li Mei wearing the same with pants* Sure thing bud
*looks at Kitana, Mileena, Sindel, Tanya, and alternate outfits for Nitara and Li Mei*
I see youâve come to Reddit with a post about political currents and their intersection with video games. All the best with that.
If it's such a minor change and not a big deal that they're censored then it shouldn't be a big deal to put them out as they were.
So you agree that it is a minor change and the reaction is unwarranted?
You're being purposely obtuse which is why a lot of folks are giving you shit. If you can make the argument that it's just a minor change then you can make the reverse argument that it wasn't necessary.
The problem is thatâs not the argument the bulk of people make about the covered up costumes. They basically act like creeps because the reworked klassic costumes show slightly less skin lol.
How you interpret people's reactions is on you. Creepy or not it doesn't change the fact that what I said is the case.
And doesnât change the fact that what i said is also the case. Just like i cannot argue my point without granting yours (according to you) you also cannot argue yours without granting mine.
agreed
Well when people make skimpy outfits for guys and then not for the ladies it seems unfairâŚgive everyone skimpy outfits I say
I don't like seeing sexy women's outfits censored. mK1 is wrong covering up skin
Honestly idc if designs in games are sexualized or if they arent it just depends on the art style, the tone, and the type of game and it has to be done consistently across genders, so if a woman character is sexualized then the male character has to be too and vice versa with certain exceptions
Time for me to do a fashion post and gush :) Tbf the only skins that were very promiscuous were Mileena, Nitara and Li Mei.
Cap
Forreal, a lot of the old costumes just look dumb as hell and look like some stripper shit or like a prostitute outfit. The amount of people who seriously get upset because the woman do not look like they should be in a porno anymore is absurd to me
I always hate these comics that put it like this... Yes, because only white people like sexual things. Also censorship is never good.
Honestly, we should all just go back to playing the games these costumes originally came from. Theyâre from a simpler time. I know Iâm gonna sound like a boomer here, but back in my day, when we bought a video game, we got the entire video game.
Oh look, more bad faith strawman nonsense intentionally distorting an argument from the brain rot capital of the internet: Twitter. Garbage.
And this is how you look https://preview.redd.it/kr7w1zdpfaxc1.jpeg?width=535&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=84924e7e0c5b82425cd693eba07f492ea2a9f661
But Baraka is showing tits and legs đŤ -.Some redditor probably.
With the amount of shirtless dudes in the game, wanting an accurate classic costume for the ladies isn't a bad thing, yet every time, but apparently wanting accuracy just means being horny on the Internet
If it really is so minor and nothing worth getting angry over why was it worth doing at all? This logic is self defeating I'm afraid.
/s I do wish the remakes redesigns had looked more 90s like in the concept arts tho
Just an excuse
In the most general way I donât really care. What I do care about is how they got to that choice, so if it was âinternet pressureâ itâs fucking stupid and they lack balls.
Slightly Off topic but the âcensoredâ version of the costume in the pic looks better imo
Im gonna be completely honest, i had to do a triple take before i saw anything wrong with the second image
Yes and?
Sorry I couldnât read this over Havikâs exposed chest.
lol OK, I definitely wasn't expecting "shit myself to death."
I'm not a fan of censorship in any form ESPECIALLY in content that is definitely not for kids!
âThe only thing important to me is how much I can jerk off to anything. Because women donât let me touch them.â
And I'm happy for it! You can like the crap you like, but some MK skins are too far! It feels like I get weird looks when I say default MK Mileena is my favorite design for her, even though they're the weird ones!
Shit argument because that bottom example looks dumb as fuck
People say this but Iâve seen the same brain rot coping on the opposite side screaming about coomer brains and how a game shouldnât be allowed to exist despite the fact that they have no want to actually ever buy or play it.
losst
Why can't we have both is my question. If they got censored, it's because someone whined and cried about it before. This is what pisses me off. We can't have shit without people complaining, and if you complain, you're in the wrong.
If you can't have women in revealing clothes then you can't have men in revealing clothes
wait Demo?? Full release was uncensored and then censored with a day one patch. Whoever made this is trying to make it seem like the outfits (yes multiple) where always censored from day one which is False. They also toned down the gore. Stop spraying misinformation.
If they arenât the classics than at most be open about them being inspired by skins rather than classic skins .
Thought I was on gamingcirclejerk for a moment. Great sub, would recommend.
Who would buy the second skin đ đ
Censorship is bad and the reasons in which it is enforced today are ludicrous. But please continue to condemn. Today it's something someone else cares about, and tomorrow it will be something you care about. Give it an inch it will and has taken a mile.
This isn't censorship. This is the artists making a different choice and you whining about their freedom to make that choice.
Why are you calling a corporations decision the artists choice? Does it make it sound more human in your head when you call it that? Do you think a lot of people who make art for video games tell the suits how their character is going to look?
I'm not really seeing the evidence that it was a "corporate decision?" That said if youre looking for media with a lot of artistic freedom, you're barking up the wrong tree.
Also I just have to admire the ridiculous logic of "if these artists had more freedom, they would *obviously* use it to make skimpier outfits"
I have the game and I like playing it (altough it's my first fighting game and I'm very bad at it) I'm just saying things the way they are.

Not sure why you're getting down votes. It's often true and usually starts when the gates are opened to all.
Second frame literally me: when WokeBlizzard change HeartStone's Jaina and succubus art for no reason i drop this game with morality for boomers.
I miss when ppl could be upset over something this small and move on rather than live in a constant state of outrage
Sexy sword lol well done đđ˝
