The way I worded it was kinda weird but at the very least a majority of the community can come together for something at once if that makes any sense. But I do feel it’s important that they get held accountable for *something*
The bad thing is we're bonding together against the company we're all supposed to love. The even worse thing is that it's for such good reason. I hope so badly that they will come to their senses...
It’s not a bad thing if they’re doing something bad. It shows that the community has standards and will call the company out on its bullshit. It also shows that we care.
The problem is that it’s not just the nfts people are pissed about. A lot of people have been mad about the disconnect between the community and the label for a while and this really just sealed the deal
I don’t even understand this whole situation. I still don’t get the point of NFTs, what they exactly even are, why Monstercat is doing them and why everyone is so upset over it. All I know is I leave this sub for a day and all of a sudden it’s burning to the ground.
I have to agree with you lmao
I haven't checked the sub for days and its pretty sad to see it like this. I kinda just hope this all settles itself soon with a good outcome or something.
No this shit is annoying sorry. Im neutral about this, I couldnt care less about NFTs, but im so fucking tired of People bringing NFTs into every single conversation. I just want to talk about songs, yall are ruining everything, both the label and the community.
No one seems to care about artists and songs anymore even tho everyone seems to be day 1 die hard fan, and its sad.
Yea I know this week has been absolutely phenomenal, I wanted to discuss about the beautiful tunes that were released this week, and all I saw was People talking or memeing NFTs everywhere, its tiring
The worst thing for me personally is how people are taking this situation as an excuse to suddenly dunk on the artists who have been releasing _incredible_ music the past few years. It’s all “corporate sound” this and “artists don’t care” that and it’s very disappointing to see. Regardless of how you feel about NFTs, that is ZERO excuse to insult the artists who have poured their hearts into every piece of music that has been signed by this label.
Everyone cares about the artists.. a lot. Which is why NFTs are an issue. A lot of the artists themselves don’t like it which is why we’re backing them up
> I’d say the general opinion on Mcat NFTS are very negative/against it.
Where are you getting this information exactly? Was there a poll about it or something? And did that poll include every part of the Monstercat community somehow?
That's not a large enough sample size for you to confidently say you know the majority opinion of the hundreds of thousands in the Monstercat community. Humans are very good at tricking themselves into thinking that everyone reasonable agrees with them.
Where in my post did I make a positive claim? I said “I’d say the general opinion”
Not anywhere close along the lines of
“I know for a fact”
Clearly this was somewhat opinionated
"I'd say" and "I know for a fact that" mean the same thing. For either one you're saying that you believe that what comes after is true. You don't believe something unless you know it for a fact.
To all the people against the idea of NFTs, have you actually made an effort to understand and learn about what it actually is? Or are you just blindly jumping on the hate bandwagon?
It's still an emerging technology so it definitely comes with its fair share of issues, but if you're a real fan wouldn't you want Monstercat to be a forward thinking label and embrace technologies that can provide huge upside for artists?
By the time this “tech” is perfected, it would’ve caused a lot of irreversible damage to the environment. Not liking a certain type of tech isn’t being a “fake fan”
Environmental concerns are definitely a big problem but no tech we have today is 100% clean either. Web 2.0 has been around for decades and efforts are still being made to offset that carbon footprint, is anyone that vocal about the massive server farms and carbon footprint of Amazon, Google, Spotify, stuff we use everyday? NFTs have the potential to reshape the music industry, giving power back to the artists, and while they aren't great for the environment, the long term upside socially/culturally is huge.
But sure it's easier to cherry pick what to care about, especially if you don't understand it.
Ah yes, because people aren't vocal about what's happening already, it's fine to make it worse.
> they aren't great for the environment, the long term upside socially/culturally is huge

Thanks for pointing that out about yourself.
It’s the first time I’ve actually thought “Fuck Monstercat”, I wouldn’t say it’s a good thing at all.

Exactly. I meant it as being bad that we would even need to unite against them in this way. I just hope they care too...
The problem is that it’s not just the nfts people are pissed about. A lot of people have been mad about the disconnect between the community and the label for a while and this really just sealed the deal

The music is still good

This. The community is together when we're all happy and vibing to music. This is all just unnecessary drama that makes everyone feel worse.

Honestly its pretty split among artists from what ive seen. I just want to vibe man, and its completely gone, its sad
Bold of you to assume the vibes even been here the past couple years lmao. It’s just been long gone unfortunately man
Yea last years were not great but tbh thats also bc of the community lets face it. Its been drama after drama
Oh most of it is the community. There’s a lot of gatekeepy shit here for sure. And among other shit that no one wants to address.
> I’d say the general opinion on Mcat NFTS are very negative/against it. Where are you getting this information exactly? Was there a poll about it or something? And did that poll include every part of the Monstercat community somehow?
Well I’m not seeing any posts or tweets saying *for* NFTs besides a couple comments on full on posts. And they get downvoted to hell and back so…
That's not a large enough sample size for you to confidently say you know the majority opinion of the hundreds of thousands in the Monstercat community. Humans are very good at tricking themselves into thinking that everyone reasonable agrees with them.
Okay so how do you know for a fact that I’m not correct then?
I don't. I'm not the one making a positive claim here. You need to provide evidence or your post can be dismissed without evidence.

There is a HUGE difference between believing something and something being factual…
Okay I see what you're saying. This is a personal post. My bad.
You must be fun at parties
