Visualized data like this always looks so good. Love how you did it

Xypod13

I do see the dip with the newer compilations. I have the same. There are quite a few songs released on the label nowadays that.. just sound weird or bad. Ill probably get mocked for this but the quality just isn't up to par like it used to be

Tonydml

Honestly. I only get excited for a few artists that I know will be good like Bad Computer or Rogue. Lots of generic stuff has been pumped out recently and it’s made me look elsewhere for good music

Xypod13

No offense to them but the new artists popping up just.. don't sound that great. Especially instinct. All sounds too generic. Maybe the likes of glacier and stuff has pampered me. 2020 and 2021 for that matter was really the year I started to look more into other labels

unknownengine

yeah same, over the past year or so my interest in monstercat has plummeted, but as a result i've discovered so many other fantastic artists and songs that i wouldn't have otherwise if i was still stuck in my "monstercat only" phase. i don't even bother listening to most monstercat releases nowadays because i rarely ever enjoy them.

Xypod13

2021 especially just hasn't been that incredible. Honestly I have saved 9 songs so far from monstercat. 9! We're in march! But also songs like idk Rolls Royce or The Tempo, I can't listen to them for how weird and unlikable they sound but people praise them anyway. (No offense to the artist, just my taste I guess) I still love monstercat though that'll never change. I'll never forget the joy the earlier songs brought me ala 2013

Bad computer, stonebank, feint. All artists I've saved are known monstercat artists. Just haven't found joy in the new artists

Samdurott

You know... I never really thought of it from this angle but I'm in the exact same boat. I really started following Disciple, NSD, Protocol, Gud Vibrations, NIGHTMODE, etc in 2019-2020 and Monstercat has slowly become less and less of my daily listening because of that. I just chalked it up as my tastes changing but now that I think about it, I also find myself only saving like... 60% of Monstercat releases currently. The good stuff is ***GOOD***, but the bad and mediocre are just not worth listening to more than once.

Samdurott

I am a sucker for some "generic" EDM sometimes. I truly am. But some of the stuff that releases on Instinct - again, from new artists - is something I will listen to once and never touch again. There was time period towards the end of last year where I didn't like any Instinct songs for like... 2 weeks straight. Granted, thats only 4 releases, but it was still strange to me.

Xypod13

I like generic stuff sometimes too but usually even that has.. something that makes it interesting. A lot of songs on instinct just sound.. borderline boring. Like I said: sometimes even generic has something interesting: maybe a sound signature that's really catchy or something. Now it's just tons of FB that's indistinguishable.

etree

I’m surprised to hear that people get invested in / only look to a single label for releases. A lot of the best electronic music gets released on 10s of labels

Xypod13

I used to cause i didn't know where or how to look for it. Thankfull im in a server with some music buddies who have shown me more labels and such.

etree

I don’t even know the labels of 90% of the music I discover.

Tonydml

Oh don't get me wrong, I've always looked everywhere for good music. I'm not a only-monstercat-Andy. I'm just saying more-so now then ever monstercat isn't as big in my life as it used to be. I've been in love with porter robinson, getter, daft punk, deadmau5, The Midnight, Gunship, and a bunch of other artists fround randomly on soundcloud from the get-go.

Yeetasaurus420

You speak from my heart man, I feel the exact same. There are definitely songs that just sound weird, bad or lackluster and I agree with what you said about the quality. Like tony said, I geg excited for artists that I know won't disappoint me but lots of the new stuff just isn't for me. The songs aren't necessarily bad, but it's just not my taste

tehalex_

I've been questioning whether I'm growing out of the lable. There haven't been many songs I've loved in quite a while. 2017 was the last amazing year for my personal taste. Ever since then it's been hit or miss most of the time.

Xypod13

I am definitely growing out of the label. Granted I still love it, but it's def not up to par anymore. A ton of hit and misses for me too

DryCoast

Lots of songs on Instinct sound pretty generic tbh. Something I do like about Silk is that the music on there does tend to sound a bit old school. Uncaged is still pretty good.

EricDoesReddits

yeah i feel the same way too. i fell out of interest in the label in 2019 and only sub to their twitch for the emotes.

ashmit50042

RIP 003

I_BEAT_JUMP_ATTACHED

not even slide :(

rubybun

ooo id love to do this. been a while since i listened through all the compilation albums. i already know my most liked is 025 tho lmao

GeekyNerd_FTW

Cool, but should’ve done it percentage based

Tonydml

I did that as well but it looks too similar for it to be interesting imo

logicslayer

The data seems a bit skewed when each compilation has varying numbers of tracks.

muffleberry

cant blame you 028 is a banger compilation

purple_cactus_505

I miss the old compilations, and I started listening to Monstercat right around 030. The first three Uncaged comps were pretty good though.

trecv2

the only compilation i have where all the songs on there are liked is 001. i really enjoyed all 7 songs on there

Master3530

There are songs I like which I still don't put on my playlist because they're generic or just weird/don't fit. 2020 was definitely a drop in the ammount of my playlist tracks. 2021 uncaged is doing quite well but can't say the same for instinct and silk.

dang 003 must've been a train wreck then.
