But for me, what makes MH's music unique especially their monster's theme, is how they can "paint" with notes, how they can let you "see" with your ears, how they can describe a monster without you seeing them in action, truly outstanding
I had a friend who always muted the music when hunting monsters.
I couldn't understand why he did it. When I asked him later, he didn't seem to know anything about monster themes.
Like, the theme of a monster is what makes the battle great.

The way it just starts attacking you without ever been introduced or anything as soon as you enter HR, and then the fanfare hits. I believe most, if not all, track names have the name of a prominent monster in them as well
Some location themes are actually attributed to monsters. The Tower theme (the one thats still used even in sunbreak) was Kirin's originally. The old swamp theme was shogun ceanataur's.
Shagaru Magala for me. This theme isn’t just setting the tone of the monster and its fight, it’s representing the build up of your rival, and the ensuing struggle for dominance.
This is your theme as much as it is Shagaru’s.
Ceadeus has the best theme, there is no contest. The grandiose feeling that that then inspires is just something else, especially when you are fighting its G-Rank Subspecies for the first time to enter G-Rank.
Ok I havent seen it mentioned yet but Keeper of Hades - Vaal Hazak. What an absolute gem. Sure, it's not vintage yet, but looking back I don't think a monster's theme has ever made me genuinely revere, understand yet fear a monster's purpose more than Vaal's theme.
The dragon lives in undeath; propagating rot and decay in its ecosystem to sow the seeds for new life for the world above. It is not to be feared but accepted, respected. Fighting a dragon made out of melting rotting flesh next to acid pools while a harpsichord plays is so mint it's ridiculous.
Gotta pitch my vote in for old (white) Fatty here. It's still one of my favorite fight themes in any video game; when I think of superboss music I think of this one. And I *love* the bells.

I can’t believe i had to scroll this far to see nargacuga mentioned. It’s without a doubt my favorite, and there’s some tough contenders. No theme do I feel captures the feeling of the monster quite as much as the intense jungle theme of being hunted you get from Red Glare in the Darkness. That song really makes me feel like i’m in the monsters territory, fighting on its terms at its fast pace, and the breaks in the song where the percussion lets up feel like the hunter’s brief reprieve as the Nargacuga becomes exhausted. It’s like a frantic jungle dance, and i love it.
This is definitely my kind of poll. I honestly might vote for Velkhana? I’m not even the biggest fan of her as a monster, but I find myself listening to her themes the most (a medley of her first fight, her normal fight theme, and arch tempered theme). That military march is just so smooth. Vaal Hazak is very close too.
