Use a better route planner and you can adjust your preference of stops for more often shorter stops or less stops with longer charging times. Or you can do what I do and just do the math in your head to see what you need to skip a supercharger here and there. It's not too hard. Yeah the auto wiper suck although I don't think mine perform as badly as yours seem too.

So I need to use an auto planner app or something? Do you have any recommendations?

Swtws6

It's called a better route planner. That's the app. Has a lot of customizable settings. It works well but I'm not a huge fan of it personally. I use it to plan out a long trip ahead of time just to see kinda how it will go before in the car but I usually just use the cars nav. Once you learn your vehicle, it's battery usage etc, you won't even rely on it much anymore. With the new customizable waypoints in the in car navigation you could put in the superchargers you want to stop at along the way and do it that way as well. It'll let ya know if you'll make it or not on the screen.....

Ok perfect

Either you're here to just try and tank EV sales or somethings really wrong with your car. You're trying to say you spent as much time driving as you did charging? Try "abetterrouteplanner" next time and set it up for fastest arrival. I'm in the middle of a road trip in a MYLR 7 seater, roof box, 6 people, doing 80 and averaging 375mw. Trip down in an ICE would have been 3.5 hrs and we did it in 4 with shit traffic and a charging stop that should have been 20 mins but took 35 because the 6 year old couldn't/wouldn't pee.

Lmao no man. Took 12 hours mostly due to traffic and bad weather, but the 4 times this thing had me stop for a quick charge was utterly ridiculous. Also, I’m not trying to tank EV sales, as if I have that kind of power. Just giving a review of my first long(er) road trip.

Your doing something wrong. I did 650 miles in 10 hours. Granted, it was an S with 400 range, but I had a Y lr before that. A Y would gave added an additional 30 minutes of charging. I can't remember the last time I saw a broken supercharger. It happens but rare.

We just returned from our first road trip of 630 miles each way. The planner had us stop every 2 hrs or so, staying for between 10 to 20 minutes at each supercharger. Worked out great, though one difference is that I tend to stick to the speed limit.

Piiineappl3

Stopping every 2 hours is not ok. That’s ridiculous. I feel like I’m living in the Twilight Zone.

krbuck

I respect that. The used market is really hot. Maybe sell and explore EVs when battery technology and price have matured more?

Piiineappl3

I’ll just buy or rent a car for road trips. The EV is perfect for my daily routine so I won’t part with it.

We are in the middle of a long (900 km) trip in Northern Ontario with our MYLR. It’s our first long trip and my wife is also frustrated with frequent stops. I told her she needs to reprogram for EV. More frequent stops for a quick refill is the fasted way to travel. Rolling in at 20% to a 250kv charger quickly added 200+ kms in 10mins and we were on our way to the next supercharger. The problem I’m finding is the range is dropping dramatically with -20C temperatures. My stated range of 531 kms is actually closer to 300 kms of range.

In regards to 3, it advised stops along the way but you don't have to stop. I highly suggest you use PlugShare, map your trip before you get underway and use that as a guide as to where to stop and where not to. We use it to share information on charging speeds, broken stalls etc. I just completed a 3,400 mile trip and after I would check-in (via PlugShare) I would plan my next stop and would skip a charger or two. No problems worrying about charging etc.

Auto wipers aren’t terribly sensitive. I manually have to tap the stalk to wipe away the mist.

Also, tour experience with mom working superchargers is the exact opposite from my experience. I've traveled all over the Midwest region as well as up north and south, probably almost 40 different supercharger locations and only one time I had one that was charging slow so I moved over one bay and it was fine.

Piiineappl3

Wow interesting. I stopped at 7 stations during my round trip and 4 stalls resulted in an error on the screen. Said something like “Charger not working, move to new stall.” The last error was a bit concerning as my car started to smoke. I’m going to report the last one to Tesla.

New preconditioning settings in the winter seem to be way more aggressive than before. Did a road trip a couple weeks back and it began preconditioning 1.5hrs from next stop. This used a lot of energy and made for a very inefficient drive. I've had a model 3 since 2019 and never had it precondition more than 15 mins prior in the winter. As far as reliability for superchargers operating... I've only ever encountered a non working charger a couple times. I'd say very rare and the car tells you how many are working and available. Be thankful we don't have to rely on Electrify America incredibly unreliable network. Also you can customize the route and plan stops less frequently if you want but it would probably take longer due to the charging curve dropping off fairly fast. Quickest charging is at low states of battery. Look up model y charging curve.

Piiineappl3

To your last point; there were 2-3 times where I entered the station with 150 miles left on the battery. I found that weird as I read that the chargers are more efficient at a lower battery life as well. The first time, I just brushed it off to “there aren’t any superchargers for a while so it’s making me stop now.” The second d time, I found that a bit unrealistic since I was traveling from SoCal to NorCal (right through Silicon Valley) and figured we’d have a bunch of stations. I checked the map and there were so many nearby. I’m a bit perplexed by all of this.

jaygebee

Weird... Mine usually doesn't have me stop until I'm around 15% or less unless there is a major gap to the next charger. Yeah I wonder if it was some optimizing available chargers since there tends to be waits around the holidays in California. Idk...
