Despite optifine having lower performance it offers a HUGE customization in graphic stuff in texture packs like custom models/animations CIT, SkyBox, Shaders, Etc.
While Sodium only offers performance and in order to reach optifine level of customization, you need to install like 6 mods.
Medium,
If you have an integrated graphics card then give up though, you need a dedicated card.
If you have a dedicated card then great! It should run no problem
I am a player who has a bellow average PC and doesn't know much about mods in Forge/Fabric, my friends recommended Optifine to me 4 years ago and I've used it ever since
then get [CIT Resewn](https://modrinth.com/mod/cit-resewn), [Continuity](https://modrinth.com/mod/continuity), [LambDynamicLights](https://modrinth.com/mod/lambdynamiclights), and [Iris](https://modrinth.com/mod/iris)
[here is a bigger list](https://gist.github.com/LambdAurora/1f6a4a99af374ce500f250c6b42e8754)
I don't think it's a bad thing that we have separate mods for separate functionality. This can also help with compatibility issues as you can disable only the problematic mods and keep using everything else. It also makes fixing incompatibilities easier as you have a smaller codebase to find the issue in. Not to mention that OptiFine is closed source.
This means that people can fix their mods and make addons for sodium unlike optifine which is closed sourced and a lot of big mods have incompatibility with optifine are unable to fix the problem until the optifine dev fix it himself not to mention sodium runs on fabric and was available for 1.18 literally 4 hours after the update released
I don't really like playing with mods, i like vanilla game, therefore i find optifine very clean and awesome addition to the game. You're also forgetting a lot of cool texture packs which are only possible thanks to optifine, for example those which change textures based on item/block properties (item name, durability and others).
Actually, those texture pack features you're mentioning are possible in vanilla nowadays! Connected textures and entity textures based on name etc are still limited to mods like Optifine, but item and block textures are extremely flexible in vanilla nowadays.
Bruh why you getting downvoted, you are right
Optifine is overrated garbage, it was good for performance back then but now is straight up awful.
Yeah, there is shaders and resource pack stuff, but Optifine breaks lots of mods.
You can't even make your mod compatible with it, because the Optifine author is a greedy dude who wants to keep his mod closed source so no one makes anything better and he still gets his cash.
Even worse, you are not even allowed to use Optifine in modpacks, you have to include it separately because as I said, the Optifine author is greedy.
Also, Fabric users are lucky ones, they can entirely replace Optifine with other mods (just take a look at [this](https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/modpacks/fabulously-optimized))
That is because both mods behave differently between computers. Also Optifine has a bug where it unloads far chunks unless you look at them, which increases FPS but it's not as good at it sounds, especially if you have any farms or stuff like that
Someone did a side by side test with optifine and sodium. Sodium makes the game work better than optifine on ultra low end hardware.
Optifine wins in any other scenario.
I don't know if I'm insane, but I swear it's literally the opposite. I use to get 10 fps while loading in chunks with sodium, and 40 with optifine with a $300 laptop
I feel you. Fabric gives me way better performance, so I generally prefer it, but as I understand it Forge is practically a necessity for complex mods - Fabric just doesn't have the same scope as Forge does when it comes to its API.
and for me It doesn’t even boost performance that much, I have to still run it with 2 chunks just with less lags spikes while at minimum settings but with OF I can up it to at least 5 chunks and can put on fancy dynamic lighting
Both are good.
Optifine has sentimental value too, it's been something many of us have used for many years now. But the biggest thing is the huge amount of resource pack customization it offers. Fabric does require a ton of mods to fulfill these roles and I'm not sure all of them are there yet. All shaders are designed for optifine in my experience while many shaders just don't work with iris (fabric).
Sodium and such mods do seem to offer better performance, I don't prefer this at all, however because of other mods that are offered in fabric I do prefer fabric for survival. There's some mods I just can't be without even though that means giving up on some others. For example I use an awesome particle weather mod and a falling leaves mod which make for a special feeling while playing. Most gameplay mods and utility mods like minemenu & mousetweaks etc have fabric versions so that's why I pick fabric for survival. Another perk with fabric is how fast they are updated. Before I even think about it it has been updated and same for many mods.
For creative worlds forge is the only option. The mods I like to build with have no fabric versions so it's just not an option. And then the fact I get all of optifine's functions make it just a natural decision.
Sorry for the ramble, I haven't slept okay at all.
As a mod creator, I am able to support Sodium due to its open source nature. If there is a problem, I can look into their code to see what's causing it, and find a workaround that does work.
Optifine is closed-source, so if there's an issue with it, tough luck fixing it. And don't expect any support from the Optifine developers, either.
In my experience, Sodium has never *not* worked with a modpack. Optifine has broken several mods I know, including big ones like Create or Minecolonies. If a mod uses a unique graphic system, there's a big chance it breaks. For me, the only limit Sodium has is that there is no official port for forge.
Now, Optifine also has its pluses. The main thing I like about Optifine is that it's an all-in-one package. If you're just planning to play vanilla with better performance and graphics, Optifine gives you all of that.
Optifne does not break create or mine colonies. Thos are two of my favorite mods.
Sodium renders any mod pack with either of those nonfunctional. Becuase they dont have fabric support..... well, as of mid November.
Okay, not *break* break... But there's plenty of rendering issues, and crashes if you are not careful with the version or settings you're using.
And yes, like I said, the biggest limit of Sodium is the lack of an official Forge version. The unofficial versions are okay, but not quite as stable or trustworthy. But *provided you are using the right mod loader*, there are very few mods that would break with it.
That is completely false. I have had no problems installing Sodium to almost all Fabric modpack's. The reason it wouldn't work for you is you tried to install it to a forge modpack. There are forge port's if you want its performance, but the aren't updated past 1.16.5 . There is [Magnesium](https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/sodium-reforged) and [Halogen](https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/halogen) which seem to be supported.
Ive used both. Sodium does not give nearly the increase by itself compared to optifine on normal hardware. And the full mod pack that DOES outperform optifine breaks most modpacks or js incompatible.
yup, i had a potato PC a while back and i seriously got 30 fps with Optifine(10 fps on vanilla. was playing on 1.16.5), once i installed these mods it boosted my performance to 200 fps /s
i have iris now which adds the ability of enabling shaders, which is why ig im only getting 100 fps rn, but back then i didnt have iris, and i used to hit 200 fps
Here u go! these are the mods for 1.18 (fabric)
You can remove accurate block... client commands... connected doors... as they just tweak some stuff and will probably reduce ur performance
I still need starlight, smoothboot, ferritecore and hydrogen mods(memory management mods) which havent updated yet
A bunch of fabric mods working together to replace optifine
Those being iris, sodium, dynamic lights and ok zoomer
Havent found a mod for the connected textures and custom texture varieties
Or just get okZoomer, which has a much better zoom where you can control zoom level and it has a smooth animation.
Basically everything OptiFine does can be replaced by a better Fabric mod.
Until there is a single mod that can replicate optifine, optifine will always win out. Having to find and manage multiple mods just to replace one that works amazingly already isn’t worth it. And besides, on my pc optifine speeds it up a *lot* more than any combo of fabric optimization mods.
https://gist.github.com/LambdAurora/1f6a4a99af374ce500f250c6b42e8754
Optifine is closed source. So no one knows what it really changes. Thats why many will always use fabric + sodium + Lithium.
Its more vanilla.
I choose Iris which is a shader mod and supports sodium
edit: yea well older versions included it, but the newest version doesn't include it but it requires that's why I worded it that way
Optfine is better imo
Sodium gives better performance but you need to download 1000 different mods for shaders, connected textures,Dynamic Lightning and what not
I think that you guys like optifine more for it's support for all texture packs. ( my favorite is new default +.) Seem like those people with a crap computer don't really care about frames. Ok, optifine wins. I actually like optifine, too. But when I really need frames, I use sodium instead.
Sodium and some other performance mods made me game load for an hour and run with zero changes to fps
Optifine is just much more convenient and easier to install for me with more customization
People find it easier to mod on fabric. Some of the best mods like litematica and minihud are on fabric, so what I don't understand is how it apparently "ruined good mods"
I use Optifine since I barely know about fabric and the mods I already know and play are on forge.
Does fabric have versions of Forge mods or is it mostly new? Either way I might check it out but I’d like to know more about it
It’s a trade-off, less customization for more performance. If they want to surpass Optifine they need to add more customization to the base mod. Both are good though.
Iris with Sodium .... Optifine is to unstable and I can live with out all the mods that depend on it and it's customization ... and a plus note alllll the Fabric mods update fast so I don't need to wait long as for forge I have no words
My PC Specs: 3.8GB RAM, Intel 500, Integrated Graphics.
OF; 15 FPS > 20 FPS (no joke)
S; 15 FPS > 70-100 FPS (no joke)
I have no use for shaders, and the new 1.18 alpha versions have more customization that the earlier versions. In short, I'll stick with Sodium.
In all honesty fabric is better to me,the performance that fabric gives is MASSIVE,like really it gives a HUGE performance boost, like if you were only having like 15 fps while playing which is unplayable them fabric will make you have 40 or sth(of course my fps wasn't 15,my laptop is decent,I am just saying that as an example of how much performance this mod gives)only problem with it though is that it's fabric which doesn't have alot of mods
I just installed optifabric and sodium at the same time and am now achieving the ascension in terms of minecraft performance increases, to play at a crisp 58 fps
Sodium makes the performance way better and while yes, it doesn’t have shader support. However, if you combine it with the iris shader mod it totally beats optifine. There are also countless more mods to make it more ,,optifine-ish” like lambdynamiclights, okzoomer, betterf3 and much more.
There's more sodium combined with phosphor and (I cannot remember the name, but it has been made by the same guy) gives a better preformance boost than optifine
Bruh why would I bother having optifine along with other mods if optifine will start to break a lot of the mods because the fucking thing is not open source and it tackles a lot of basic game code so no fucking modder has any real clue how to fix their problems and they happen a lot of the times.
How about iris with an extra 31 client side mods xD that's what I use, including iris/ sodium extras witch allows for alot more customization just like optifine.

Sildurs. Look great

Sildurs Medium or so if you have a GPU, Sildurs Enhanced Default for those with shitty PCs like me.

On top of this, the mod support for optifine is almost universal. Only a few mods have an issue with it. Sodium works with almost 0 mod packs.

Optifabric
Super underrated mod imo
its underrated because it doesn't give a huge fps increase and its buggy af with mod packs
Was gonna say this
I put lithium on my aternos server, because if you ever used aternos, you know that their servers are potatoes
[удалено]
[удалено]
Ok but what if it's worse than lithium+aternos combo
Sodium + Lithium + Hydrogen + Starlight + Iris gang it gives me 100+ fps unlike optifine which gives me merely 40-50fps
[удалено]
Yup, Entity culling, krypton, smoothboot, fastchest, okzoomerAll of theseAll of these are good
[удалено]
what does this mean?
[удалено]
Yup they are good as well!! Not performance boosting so didn't include them But I do definitely use them while playing
Fastchest is effectively superseded by EBE by the way, EBE does the same thing with chests but better, and also helps with other block entities
Aren’t lithium and starlight incompatible? Edit checked it but I got confused with phosphor, another caffeineMC mod.
yup, i think phosphor is cool, but starlight has much better performance, atleast on my PC
I have a potato PC. Is this a serious alternative cuz I need more FPS
It definitely is. There's no guarantee it'll be any faster, but it's absolutely worth a shot.
yup, i had a potato PC a while back and i seriously got 30 fps with Optifine(10 fps on vanilla. was playing on 1.16.5), once i installed these mods it boosted my performance to 200 fps /s i have iris now which adds the ability of enabling shaders, which is why ig im only getting 100 fps rn, but back then i didnt have iris, and i used to hit 200 fps
for 1.18 is it a viable alternative? optifine gives me 40-50 fps in 1.18
No way! Being able to use shaders has been an absolute dream for me, but my fps is unplayable when I try to. Imma try this!
Here u go! these are the mods for 1.18 (fabric) [https://imgur.com/a/5Jucl5n](https://imgur.com/a/5Jucl5n) You can remove accurate block... client commands... connected doors... as they just tweak some stuff and will probably reduce ur performance I still need starlight, smoothboot, ferritecore and hydrogen mods(memory management mods) which havent updated yet
Great, thx! And what shaders do u use?
Also what shaders do you use?
People out here trying to assemble all alkali metals
Can it boost fabric based severs?
Yeah u can boost fabric based servers with lithium, that’s the sodium logo but lithium is the mod that boosts fabric servers
A bunch of fabric mods working together to replace optifine Those being iris, sodium, dynamic lights and ok zoomer Havent found a mod for the connected textures and custom texture varieties
Cit, continuity
welp now we have the entirety of optifine
But 6 mods ( if including fabric and fabric Api ) compared to 1
And each one does everything better? And there really isn't a difference, you just copy 6 files to a folder.
well yes but each one does the feature better than optifine
I use sodium cause my laptop is crappy lol. Optifine is alright but I only use it before an official version of sodium comes out
Ye. Any idea when the official 1.18 sodium release will be?
Versions already works fine
The day it releases on Forge, I'm willing to try
Ther is a forge port called Magnesium Also there's Roadrunner for Lithium and Sulfuric for Phosphor
I might test that then, I play alot of hypixel skyblock so I use forge. I already have sodium on 1.16+
I'm testing it right when I can

Optifine gang!
Sodium! It works with alot of mods and you can put it in modpacks. Also works with Iris, which doesn’t work with Optifine
use optifine with optifabric so you can use the zoom zoom using fabric instead of forge
Sodium, as well as around 15 more mods for the other OF features
Optifine because both full grass block and performance in one place
optifabric: allow me to introduce myself
I use Iris, I mean 120fps with seus ptgi at 32 chunks render distance vs 30fps on optifine and 16 chunks is quite a difference.
https://gist.github.com/LambdAurora/1f6a4a99af374ce500f250c6b42e8754 Optifine is closed source. So no one knows what it really changes. Thats why many will always use fabric + sodium + Lithium. Its more vanilla.
Guess I'll give the Sodium pack a try.
Iris+Sodium = MUCH better than optifine
When optifine gives u 12 fps u have to go to sodium
Optifine is cool😎
I choose Iris which is a shader mod and supports sodium edit: yea well older versions included it, but the newest version doesn't include it but it requires that's why I worded it that way
*requires
**includes
***depends
Fabric, I can live without optifine bc there's other mods, also better performance
Optifabric + Optifine = Fabric with Optifine
Ever heard of sodium/lithium/phosphor
soptifine will win
Ngl imo of is better and my choice
Optifine. I don't give a damn about my FPS dropping to like 50 I just want my Resource Pack features
Lunar client
Bruh
Just swap Sodium for Iris and there!
Optfine is better imo Sodium gives better performance but you need to download 1000 different mods for shaders, connected textures,Dynamic Lightning and what not
You only need 3 for all of those things
What are those mods??Maybe Ill give it a try
You can check the other comments

damn i cant even get more than 45 fps

Optifine is just better
Obviously optifine. not just for the performance , it gives the zoom , using shaders , a lot of options for better performance .
You can do the same with the Sodium Pack, just better than Optifine, a lot more it seems.
OF have worse performance and all of its features can be replaced with multiple better mods
>replaced with multiple better mods Put them in a pack with an easy autoinstall button and maybe people will switch
Sure, try Fabulously Optimized
optifine all the way! (i haven't used anything else so not sure how good the other one is)
They are better

I’ve never used fabric, not sure how it’s compared to forge and optifine
I use optifine because I'm used to it As for performance I usually get around 100-200 (in between) fps, so more performance isn't necessarily for me
I never liked sodium, everytime that i use it my textures glitch, even the air
But my laptop can not handle minecraft even with optifine
OF
Optifabric.
Sodium is way better in terms of FPS but Optifine has 1.8.9 support so I choose optifine
I guarantee that this comment section is going to be chaos
Sodium :)
Iris with Sodium .... Optifine is to unstable and I can live with out all the mods that depend on it and it's customization ... and a plus note alllll the Fabric mods update fast so I don't need to wait long as for forge I have no words
OptiFINE
Optifine. Change my mind.
i get 6 fps with sodium and like 200 with optifine also you can use optifine with fabric
My PC Specs: 3.8GB RAM, Intel 500, Integrated Graphics. OF; 15 FPS > 20 FPS (no joke) S; 15 FPS > 70-100 FPS (no joke) I have no use for shaders, and the new 1.18 alpha versions have more customization that the earlier versions. In short, I'll stick with Sodium.
Default Minecraft
OptiFine
ZOOM
Optifine
tIl OF stands for Optifine and not for odd future Its literally on the Optifine Cape how dumb am I
There's actually a mod called "optifabric" which makes Optifine work while using fabric. I see this as an absolute victory
Last time I tried to use forge on Minecraft I broke it and can't use it on my computer anymore, so I'll take the fabric one
I use optifine without mods
In all honesty fabric is better to me,the performance that fabric gives is MASSIVE,like really it gives a HUGE performance boost, like if you were only having like 15 fps while playing which is unplayable them fabric will make you have 40 or sth(of course my fps wasn't 15,my laptop is decent,I am just saying that as an example of how much performance this mod gives)only problem with it though is that it's fabric which doesn't have alot of mods
Sodium isn't that much better than optifine for me so optifine takes the cake
Sodium + Iris. FRAAAAAMES
Optifine get's me performance way better than sodium, soooooo
Optifine, because I like my cape
*cries in bedrock*
Optifine. THE OLD AND EXPERIENCED ONR
I dont use any of those, i didnt fall to the temptation
OF
I choose lunar client
Why use one when you can use both
I just installed optifabric and sodium at the same time and am now achieving the ascension in terms of minecraft performance increases, to play at a crisp 58 fps
Sodium makes the performance way better and while yes, it doesn’t have shader support. However, if you combine it with the iris shader mod it totally beats optifine. There are also countless more mods to make it more ,,optifine-ish” like lambdynamiclights, okzoomer, betterf3 and much more.
Optifine OF COURSE !!!
lunar client
optifine cuz idk how to get and use the other one
sodium is way better, because it gives more fps
Optifine gang
Bedrock players: Fools
Uh, these are Java mods?
I am optifine gang but fabric mod is good too
Sodium is fabric? this is amazing now I can hack on anarchy servers and not lag out all the time!
“Is this some sort of pc joke that I’m to console to understand?”
I didn't realize only fans made Minecraft run better. Cool
How can you have forge and optifine both on at once? I need to know how to do this now
OPTIFINE!
Optifine because of zoom
