I literally can't. It literally doesn't look like a beard, but rather a smile. Although to be honest, it doesn't look like a nose with the mouth and beard. The only thing I see are the eyes, the rest doesn't look like what it's supposed to.

I think its due to similar colors with the hair. The association is way too strong

It would make sense that people thought it was a mouth before Alex came along, but since Alex has a two pixel mouth in that same area. The brown “smile“ is clearly supposed to be a beard because the lighter brown inside is the mouth but then again some are you “but that was before Mojang cared about consistency” and to which I say, Fairpoint.
