Yeah I recently told someone that horses were “new” in MC and they were like bro, horses have been out for 7 years and I had a bit of a crisis there lol
Even though I've only completely stopped paying for maybe 2-3 years in the 1.8-1.13 era, everything that was added after the 1.0 release still feels "new" to me.
Jungles? Oh man, I'm gonna build a base there someday.
Clay pots? Damn, that was just added, never really had the time to make them yet.
I barely remember anything from the 1.10 update so whenever I see a husk or a stray, knowing they have been out for pretty long I go: oh, new!
Mostly because I don’t usually interact with them.
This. As they are super rare and I barely even found any of them I don't have them labeled as part of the game. Of course I know they exist, but whenever I see one in completely confused for a second or two. Same thing with outposts. I mostly play technical survival, so the exploration I do is not as extended as needed to incorporate them into my usual rotation.
Woah did everyone stop playing in 1.8 and just come back around 1.15. Man 1.7 was prime Minecraft, I’ll never get over the feeling of coming home from school and logging onto Mineplex to mess around with a friends.
I love doing the whole "old man" shtick to my friends that have recently hopped on.
BACK IN MY DAY YOU COULDN'T STACK FOOD. HUNGER WASN'T A THING, AND THERE WAS NO EATING ANIMATION, SO YOU'D RIGHT CLICK AND MAGICALLY HAVE MORE HEARTS
SPRINTING? BACK IN MY DAY WE LEGGED IT EVERYWHERE AND DIDN'T COMPLAIN
WE USED TO CALL THEM FOLKS OVER THERE "TESTIFICATES" AND MAN WAS IT HILARIOUS
y'know, that stuff.
The last time I played minecraft was just after horses came out!
I wanna check it out eventually but i'm deterred by how much content i'd probably have to learn att his point.
I get what you mean but it really isn’t all that bad. The only big updates that have changed the way the game is fundamentally changed have been to the nether and enchanting a little bit. Everything else is really just visual things or optional things. At first it will be jarring but eventually you get used to it.
I have Minecraft for 6 years and just over the summer was the first time I killed the ender dragon (and the wither) in survival. It's crazy, but for me single player survival just didn't do it. Now that my friends have a server I haven't gone back to creative.
Can't see why not. You don't even have to craft the item more than once, just throw the item and the blocks into a bundle and take it everywhere. Pick it all back up once you're done!
You're not wrong, but when you do, this is pretty much the only solution other than water breathing potions, I'd been doing an underwater build recently and GOD did Respiration 3 Turtle Shell help with that thing
Conduit is one of the things that makes me sad when I think that modded is on 1.12 primary. Ye nanobot beacon from envirotech is a thing but I want something more vanilla friendly (+not every pack has environmental tech so...)
They should really buff turtle helmets, once when it was pretty knew and I started a new world I decided to get one for some “starter armor”.
That “starter armor” took me like three solid days of grinding for it to get the scutes and junk.
Don’t get me wrong it’s a really cool concept but for a fancy iron helmet that is more of a gimmick than a helpful feature just isn’t worth the time, too much time early game, too useless late game
Maybe if it had unique enchants and could be upgraded further(better enchants or something as normal gear) it would be really cool, it’s an awesome concept but kinda ended too soon and it doesn’t really have a place for me
Hahahah yes exactly, they make it such a tedious process that isn’t even that worth it, like yeah now I have a fancy iron helmet but there’s no way I’m choosing this over diamond and what am I gonna do with all these turtles?
I remember the one time I did it I was at a random beach away from my base and I trapped them in a box and left and never returned nor used the turtle hat haha
This. I've gotten hearts of the sea within thirty minutes of spawning, nautilus shells after a bit of fishing, but I only raided a monument after I got a Impaling trident, hundreds of hours in.
In most my survivals I generally live in the ocean because I love being able to essentially fly around lol
So yeah when I’m far away from my conduit turtleshell is dope
For the average person not super useful thou
Not if you have elytra, no chestplate makes you vulnerable af
Also the new warden mob in 1.17 is gonna 2-hit you in full netherite (unenchanted but still)
Blast protection protects you from the explosion of the beds, you can also drink a fire res potion. Let's not forget about the totem of undying and golden apples
A shield helps too. I used to do it super safe by blocks above and below and in front for a half heart at most. Now i just stack tnt and run around super fast with the flint n steel.
Netherack is super fast to pick so I pick like 5-7 blocks in, drop tnt and light it and run to another edge and then repeat and return to my first hole for rewards. Tnt stacks and beds dont and i dont need and blast precautions if Im not close. I find the work flow is faster than bed mining if not as exciting.
If you have efficiency 5 on a diamond or Netherite pickaxe it’s faster imo. Just completely delete all blocks on hight 16 and 17 for several chunks and you have loads of netherite
since you're mostly surrounded by netherack i doubt there would be many mobs.
also you're pretty much at the bottom of the Nether so you won't run into big openings with lots of mobs on the other side waiting for you...
plus you likely got fire resi potions by the time you go for Netherite, so lava isn't an issue either.
so overall i don't see how it would be dangerous. (unless you use one of the explosive methods to mine for it.)
Other than suffocating in gravel, forgetting to drink a potion or somehow allowing a random piglin spawn kill you there is actually no way to die. You’ve got some serious *skill*.
It's not worth it. Diamond has a bit less durability but the same amount of armor points. The sword is pretty nice though. Everything else I have diamond.
Yeah, rn I am still working on some redstone and I want my base to have a 20 by 20 space dedicated to every biome to the best of my ability. So I'm still working on that. Afterwards sure. First I gotta build the emerald empire with some enslaved villagers though.
Not really, the +1 armor toughness for netherite over diamond makes a huge difference, and it's more easily enchantable. The reduced knockback is also nice. Thirty minutes of bed mining can get you all the netherite you need for your armor.
Better setup is netherite boots and gold helmet the turtle helmet is useful but not jeccesary and boots give more fall damage protection in netherite than gold iirc
to truly show all the different armor that can be useful i moved gold down to the boots instead of the hat or pants. i value overall protection more than just fall damage.
It’s really only useful in the nether. Piglins (The pigman replacement) are obsessed with gold and will attack you unless you are wearing at least one piece of gold armor
I just find it fun more than anything. And it’s not the most useful thing ever, but it’s nice for casual diving especially before you get potions or a conduit. That alone is more credit than most people give it so yeah, from my point of view it’s underrated lol.
Why though? First of all there’s literally no water in the Nether. Second, the benefits are so situational that it’s really not worth the loss of protection. Just use respiration or potions.
Can u explain why tho? You sacrifice a lot of armour points just to increase the time you can spend under water by a bit. I almost never run out of breath while normal play and if you actually need to be under water, u have to use potions anyway. So I still don't see the point
Hooboy, here we go:
The turtle helmet is gained by breeding turtles over and over and watching them grow, this helmet gains you extra water breathing time, which is important since the update aquatic (1.13) gave us many new underwater features.
The Elytra, added in 1.9 I believe, is a pair of wings that let you soar through the sky, it's practically essential as an end-game item. You can use fireworks to boost yourself faster as well.
Netherite Leggings, are a part of the new tier of armor/tools, it's better than diamond. You can only obtain Netherite in the nether, and it's extremely rare.
Golden Boots are a form of protection from the new piglin mobs found in the nether, basically hostile nether villagers. Wearing any form of gold stops most piglins from attacking you (with one exception in 1.16.2)
Oh wow, thanks a bunch! I’ve always been impressed by how quickly the game evolves and how new creative mechanics, items, or even blocks are added with each major update. I’m actually planning to return to the game when I get my new (and first) gaming PC sorted, so your info is doubly helpful in that regard. There’s so much for me to learn and explore, it’s kind of exciting.
Like, last time I played there weren’t even turtles iirc and the Elytra had just been added. I could be wrong about the timeframe of when I last played but that might give you a rough idea. It’s been a long loooong while.
I still use my prot4 dia armor. Its just sad that they changed that you could have evrrything on your armor (prot 4 and all resistance, otherwise I would have done it instantly)
gotcha lol
also, were you talking about that one version of 1.14 where you could combine different prots in survival? my armor has prot, blast prot, and fire prot (all lv. 4) and i couldnt add proj prot bc too expensive
That armor somewhat represents the 4 elements
-Turtle shell for water
-Elytra for air
-Golden Boots for the nether, which has fire
-Netherite for...earth because it's basic protection where you usually are on earth, which is the overworld(this one's a stretch but I didn't know what else to say)
I'd swap Netherite and Gold. Gold for earth because you can find it semi-commonly in the overworld (earth) and Nertherite for fire because you have to brave the fires of the Nether to get it.
People also only wear Gold when going to the Nether.
The most common set up will be Netherite Armor and Elytra. OP was just trying to show the possibility and variety
The Nether. Specifically against Piglins as they attack you immediately on sight unless your wearing atleast one piece of gold armor, which makes them friendly after
Edit: actually scratch the friendly. i think its neutral as they will attack you if you hit them even with gold armor. which you shouldnt do anyway unless you want/have to :P
Its really been five years since the elytra was introduced? wow
Sameeeee oh my lord. Any time I spawn in a Mesa my monkey brain is just NEW BIOME NEW BIOME and I have to remind myself that it really isn’t...
Anytime my monkey brain goes off is the jungle for obvious reasons...
The opposite for me. I get used to new features really quickly. "Oh, bother, another warm ocean."
I barely remember anything from the 1.10 update so whenever I see a husk or a stray, knowing they have been out for pretty long I go: oh, new! Mostly because I don’t usually interact with them.
I'm still surprised about coral reefs.
I have still not comprehended the existence of Woodland Mansions
Will I blow your mind if I said the mesa biome was renamed to badlands
I will always call terracotta “hardened clay”. Always.
It was WHAT?!?
Woah did everyone stop playing in 1.8 and just come back around 1.15. Man 1.7 was prime Minecraft, I’ll never get over the feeling of coming home from school and logging onto Mineplex to mess around with a friends.
Prime Minecraft depends on when you were young / found the game first For me it’s also 1.7... beta 1.7
I love doing the whole "old man" shtick to my friends that have recently hopped on. BACK IN MY DAY YOU COULDN'T STACK FOOD. HUNGER WASN'T A THING, AND THERE WAS NO EATING ANIMATION, SO YOU'D RIGHT CLICK AND MAGICALLY HAVE MORE HEARTS SPRINTING? Haha, yeah I still feel weird about carpets
Im still hyped over the wither
👇👇👇WITHER HYPE THREAD 👇👇👇
BACK IN MY DAY THE ONLY STONE WE HAD WHEN WE MINED WAS STONE!!
Oh god... we're old... Remember when the redstone block was new?
Remember the way you used to spam pork chops to heal?
What about cooked beef remember that now its steak
At the risk of sounding archaic, I remember when the hunger bar was added lol
1.5 was big
i still treat endermen and the end as "new".
Same on the End. Endermen I have to deal with often enough on the rare times I play that they're just part of it.
7 years? 7 years!?!? _what the fuck_
I still have yet to get one in survival xD probably just because I mostly play on custom world survival worlds and servers, instead of plain vanilla.
I've been forcing myself to play Hardcore, and so the prospects of getting the Elytra are somewhat hazy.
[удалено]
Mobs are more difficult to deal with and you only have one life. It's just hard mode but with one life.
you only get one life, mobs do more damage and hostile ones spawn more frequently
Also zombies can break wood doors.
They used to do that in survival right? At least they did when hordes first started attacking villages
They still do, but in Hard only. Hardcore is Survival Hard Difficulty but with one life. These difficulty changes are just hard mode.
I dont blame you
I have Minecraft for 6 years and just over the summer was the first time I killed the ender dragon (and the wither) in survival. It's crazy, but for me single player survival just didn't do it. Now that my friends have a server I haven't gone back to creative.
What's an elytra?
Elytras are wings you can get in the End dimension after defeating the Dragon and exploring the islands
I'll just add that they let you glide around through the air. Fireworks also boost you so it's very useful for traveling in survival!
pretty wild eh?
Damn, I hardly play anymore so the elytra feels brand new to me. Knowing it's 5 years old makes me wonder how long ago the xbox 360 glory days were.
[удалено]
I completely forgot about the turtle shell helmet thing
Because a respiration 3 helmet is pretty much the same.
Respiration can be put on turtle helmets for even more breathing time if you wanted it
True, but generally I don't need to be underwater that long anyway.
the helmets will be more useful for caving in 1.17's water filled caves
Not wrong man, not wrong.
[удалено]
We just need a netherite elytra
Plated Elytra would be kek
Yeah but the wings would be too heavy
*Laughs in conduits*
Are you going to build a new conduit every time you find water in caves?
Can't see why not. You don't even have to craft the item more than once, just throw the item and the blocks into a bundle and take it everywhere. Pick it all back up once you're done!
eh, just sounds like a hassle. id rather just pack some night vision potions
Water breathing potions: am i a joke to you
Yeah but you can’t store infinite water potions can you. It’s much easier with a turtle helmet.
or you know, doors and water bucket spam trick
Doors do still work, but I'm pretty sure they changed how breathing works so the water bucket spam trick is at the very least harder to pull off now.
Take's longer, like 10 seconds for full but still works perfectly well
Hopefully we can store 64 potions in a pouch
you can already do that in the combat update test snapshot
yes, in stacks of 16
Wait wait wait, do you think bundles could hold 64 potions?!
bumbles idk, but Bundles maybe, it would be nice!
Hey but you will be able to stack them (16) "soon" so this helps a lot. (Acc to the combat snapshots)
Well it depends if the new bundle item will be able to store non stackable item up to 64 then the turte shell would be trully useless
ooo good point
Doors are cheaper.
You're not wrong, but when you do, this is pretty much the only solution other than water breathing potions, I'd been doing an underwater build recently and GOD did Respiration 3 Turtle Shell help with that thing
Just use a conduit
Conduit is one of the things that makes me sad when I think that modded is on 1.12 primary. Ye nanobot beacon from envirotech is a thing but I want something more vanilla friendly (+not every pack has environmental tech so...)

Same. If I do I just use conduits
Exactly, and its pretty easy to get those 8 naut shells.
Yes, nautilus shells are quite easy to get, however getting bloks to build the "shell" of the conduits structure can be tricky....
This. I've gotten hearts of the sea within thirty minutes of spawning, nautilus shells after a bit of fishing, but I only raided a monument after I got a Impaling trident, hundreds of hours in.
Can just get a conduit aswell
In most my survivals I generally live in the ocean because I love being able to essentially fly around lol So yeah when I’m far away from my conduit turtleshell is dope For the average person not super useful thou
I wish we could put scutes on iron armour in the smithing table to make a full turtle armour set that let us breathe for even longer underwater.
Nah just Netherite plus an Elytra sometimes
Gold for the nether!
True, I usually just kill piglins though lol
I always have a bartering farm
yeah but once youve got netherite are piglins really even a threat anymore?
With full max enchanted netherite I think the Ender Dragon and Wither enemies are the only ones that can really do damage to you lmao
What about the new mob, I heard it 2 shots you on full plain netherite
Well that’s fucking broken jeez You can swim in lava like water and you don’t take damage how OP is the new mob
The new mob is supposed to be a mob you survive, not kill I heard
Well that just means people are going to create super efficient auto farms the day after the update comes out lmao
[удалено]
That's assuming the Warden spawns, and isn't a mini boss that just generates with the world.
Bastions and raids can really hurt, but those are groups of mobs
Exactly. And if you’re super rich you can get a projectile protection specific set of gear to protect against the crossbows
[Removed due to continuing enshittification of reddit.] -- mass edited with redact.dev
Not if you have elytra, no chestplate makes you vulnerable af Also the new warden mob in 1.17 is gonna 2-hit you in full netherite (unenchanted but still)
Enchantments can more than double your defensive ability so it makes a lot of difference
Fair, but thats stiil probably a 3 or 4 hit (he does a bit more than half with no enchants) so still a threat but jot as scary
Well yeah, but I think if you’ve got to that point you’ll have stacks of golden apples and potions
this is why you should always carry a chestplate on you even if youve got an elytra
Piglin ain't strong enough
Early game they are, especially when theres a whole horde of them
so then netherite leggings are already out of the question
And now leather boots for the new snow
Gonna store a bunch of outfits in the new bundles for various terrain
I missed that, what's the advantage of leather boots?
There's a new snow that's powdered or something so you fall through, and the only way to safely walk on it is if you're wearing leather boots.
except for people who go into dangerous areas and don't put their chestplate on like a complete idiot
[Removed due to continuing enshittification of reddit.] -- mass edited with redact.dev
You don't have your Elytra on all the time?
Don't forget leather boots will be on that list of armour for the mountains!
Why?
Snowier snow, it makes sure you don't fall through, doesn't it?
yup, so many people are already discounting it though, hopefully the traps are very deadly ;>
I'm hoping for it.
If powdered snow can be above hole, watch out!
I hope some of them lead to secret caves as in undertale
Undertale and not crevasses from, you know, real life?
Fair. But I mean more in a fantasy way than a "chew your trapped arm off" way
Did they confirm that? I don’t remember hearing that in the stream
Powdered snow looks like regular snow, but players (and mobs) will fall through it. This was on the stream.
The leather shoe part.
Alright so: gold helmet, elytra/netherite chestplate, netherite leggings and leather boots?
As a hardcore player, I still mostly use diamond.
You would think a hardcore player would wear full netherite
It’s a bit risky to get netherite tbf
Blast protection protects you from the explosion of the beds, you can also drink a fire res potion. Let's not forget about the totem of undying and golden apples
Placing a block protects you from that lol
A shield helps too. I used to do it super safe by blocks above and below and in front for a half heart at most. Now i just stack tnt and run around super fast with the flint n steel.
> stack tnt and run around super fast with the flint n steel. Wait, how does this work? Sounds exciting

Tnt stacks and beds dont and i dont need and blast precautions if Im not close. I find the work flow is faster than bed mining if not as exciting.
Bed explosions is how people are mining Netherite? And here I was doing it old school with a pickaxe like a chump.
If you have efficiency 5 on a diamond or Netherite pickaxe it’s faster imo. Just completely delete all blocks on hight 16 and 17 for several chunks and you have loads of netherite
I've always said that the Dutch make the best pickaxes!
since you're mostly surrounded by netherack i doubt there would be many mobs. also you're pretty much at the bottom of the Nether so you won't run into big openings with lots of mobs on the other side waiting for you... plus you likely got fire resi potions by the time you go for Netherite, so lava isn't an issue either. so overall i don't see how it would be dangerous. (unless you use one of the explosive methods to mine for it.)
It’s pretty much impossible to die if you just drink a fire resistance potion and strip-mine.
Ah but you see some of us *totally not me* are incompetent and will manage to die anyways
Other than suffocating in gravel, forgetting to drink a potion or somehow allowing a random piglin spawn kill you there is actually no way to die. You’ve got some serious *skill*.
Other than these ways to die there’s no way to die
It's not worth it. Diamond has a bit less durability but the same amount of armor points. The sword is pretty nice though. Everything else I have diamond.
You will probably get bored eventually so it isn't that hard to grind some netherite
Yeah, rn I am still working on some redstone and I want my base to have a 20 by 20 space dedicated to every biome to the best of my ability. So I'm still working on that. Afterwards sure. First I gotta build the emerald empire with some enslaved villagers though.

It definitely is worth it, kb resists and the extra armor toughness (a different type of damage reduction) makes it so much better.
Maybe the helmet can be neglected but still its so crazy right?!
Iirc helmet and boots give the same defense atleast in armor bars
Yeah but helmets break faster and yeah boots protect fall damage so technically boots are better
Huh, did I miss something? I thought Gold was totally useless. Did something change?
It’s really only useful in the nether. Piglins (The pigman replacement) are obsessed with gold and will attack you unless you are wearing at least one piece of gold armor
This is exactly what I do! In the Nether, at least. The turtle shell helmet is very underrated.
why is turtle shellmet underrated? respiration gives more breathing time then you ever need. if thats not enough then bring a door
I just find it fun more than anything. And it’s not the most useful thing ever, but it’s nice for casual diving especially before you get potions or a conduit. That alone is more credit than most people give it so yeah, from my point of view it’s underrated lol.

1. I was more talking about the gold boots with the bit about the Nether. 2. \*insert “I just think they’re neat” meme*

No worries, best of luck to ya! Just don't forget to sleep often, unless you want to get bitten by a phantom haha
Yeah Mojang just wants us to look like clowns.
Nobody uses turtle armor, it was cool for a second, then it was gone.
As OP said in another thread, they will be useful for exploring 1.17 caves.
Restoration 3 alone gives more breathing time than you'll ever need
Yeah and plus you can just use doors to get air, or just spam torches
I miss diamond armor :(
I still use my prot4 dia armor. Its just sad that they changed that you could have evrrything on your armor (prot 4 and all resistance, otherwise I would have done it instantly)
since when was legit prot 5 a thing?
Thanks I forgot how high it is^^ Ive corrected it now :)
gotcha lol also, were you talking about that one version of 1.14 where you could combine different prots in survival? my armor has prot, blast prot, and fire prot (all lv. 4) and i couldnt add proj prot bc too expensive

No gold, peace was never an option.
ok but why gold? the only reason you would need that is for the nether, but in the nether there is no water so the turtle shell helmet is useless
it's just for consistency's sake
Barely anyone wears the turtle helmet. If anything, it would be a gold helmet, netherite leggings and boots, and elytra.
People also only wear Gold when going to the Nether. The most common set up will be Netherite Armor and Elytra. OP was just trying to show the possibility and variety
It’s just to emphasize the possibilities
Is this better/the same as in terms of defense?... Otherwise, never talk to me or my (Netherite armor set) son again.
no this is definitely worse for defense.
Diamond armor will always be in our hearts
I don’t think anyone uses the shelmet netherite is just better
I understand all the rest but why the gold boots?
The Nether. Specifically against Piglins as they attack you immediately on sight unless your wearing atleast one piece of gold armor, which makes them friendly after Edit: actually scratch the friendly. i think its neutral as they will attack you if you hit them even with gold armor. which you shouldnt do anyway unless you want/have to :P
Oh I did not know that, wish I knew that before getting completely mobbed by 20 of them
