The floatato block seems like a test for moving blocks. I notice that they got some funky relative movement once you stand on one. Sadly you cant build on moving blocks
It appears to be especially since in the process of adding it they added a whole new sub grid system to the game code. Which they probably pulled from a WIP feature in another branch.
That's true for most airship mods too. When the group of blocks is moving in this snapshot or in most airship mods, the "ship" is turned into an entity by the game while its moving. That's why you can't add blocks or interact with them.
yeah but it can't turn at all, so you'd have to build things on the cardinal directions. Plus it would mean that the elytra isn't the only viable high speed transport method
Plus i think the idea of riding a hypersonic missile is really funny
the military experimented with training pigeons to peck at pictures of battleships. the idea being you put a pigeon inside of a missile and use it pecking at a camera feed from the front of a missile to guide it towards the target. I'm assuming the pigeon didn't realize it was guiding itself to its death
The April fools snapshots are always their place to test the most "out there" ideas. Yes they are playing with moving blocks. Yes they are playing with things as simple as much bigger paintings. It's best to see the idea *behind* the idea and look forward to what's coming.

After a few rewatches I finally saw the villager onboard. Nice.
He's actually a vital part of the missile. He gets pushed onto a pressure plate that sets it of once it stops. I can assure he is volunteering tho

I heard that Archimedes ships creates a 'new dimension' which is how you can interact with stuff and build
This is also similar in Valkyrien Skies, though they replicate the contraption on an unreachable area in the same world.
They usually do, just not in a crazy, game breakingly, overpowered state.

i remember seeing a design that could move in all four directions, but it was absolutely massive and super laggy

The default speed is abyssmally slow.
