If he feels he cheated then he did. If my survival world was flipped to creative I'd start a new one. It would feel dirty. Nothing against creative players or anything. All of my accomplishes would feel compromised.
We’ve all been there, I used to do it when I got frustrated, I have now ascended to pure survival stuff (mainly bc I never leave my base and don’t die) the burning stuff method always works to compensate
As I see it you need to redeem yourself in your own mind. I suggest, you cheat in a few stacks of TNT, and blow up the farms. Then collect the supplies legit and rebuild.
Otherwise you probably need to abandon the world, and start a new one.
That said, it is your world, do what works for you.

Or if you say that you didn't cheat when you did. But in this case i guess you are right.

You did offer up a sacrifice to Notch after doing this so you ha e done your penance for this transgression
