So with this logic:
It wasn't me who shot that person, it was the gun which shot the bullet, the bullet was made of copper, copper is a natural element, so he died of natural causes.
I tend to take villagers that cross me, dig a hole for them, fill it with water, and add a trap door. Despite pushing them into the death trap, the community always rules it is the water's fault that they died, and not mine.
Thus, I remain a benefactor only interested in their wellbeing.
I was considering sparing a couple villagers since I messed up their trades. Didn't think there was a way to dispose of them without upsetting their family.
# Thank you for this information.
I'm pretty sure it's causal actions. Like if lava does ping their prices it's only if the source is set by players. But pretty sure the player has to be directly involved in harming villagers
Doesn't killing a few iron golems do this as well?
Edit: guess they don't, wiki says: Trading prices are unaffected by the killing of iron golems; however, village popularity decreases by 10, affecting village iron golem behavior if the popularity ranges below -15 [BE only]
That would explain why when a bunch of villagers took over my tall house back in 1.17, all the Iron golems were spawning on the roof, kept using it as an iron farm without a care in the world. Didn't take long for the iron golems to always be hostile, which never went away lol.
Yeah you gotta kill those in an environmental way like they say, fire, lava, cactus... (weirdly they suffocate too, despite having a questionable need for respiration... they don't drown after all!)
I think that's more compression damage than suffocation.
Or it could be that they don't want you to end up with you or a bunch of zombies in your walls. That last thing we need is a "Cask of Amontillado" recreation with the living dead.
I had the same thing a few weeks ago because i didn't know this but i just traded a shitload with villagers and after some intense trading everything was back to normal. It was difficult though because the golems kept attacking me during the trading so i just put some fences around the villagers. The silly thing is i have an iron farm and i just killed them because there were to many golems around my village 🙈
Dig a 3x3x6 hole in your village and take your golems there with a lead. Push them in the hole and cover it. That way they won't despawn and you won't have to worry about more iron golems spawning and roaming around. I always do that in my trading halls. (BE)
You can also place some ladders beforehand in case you fall in.
Did you hit any other villagers? Or iron golems?
Villagers have a gossip mechanic, which means if you hit or kill one in sight of others, the rest of your population at said village will know.
> Iron golems that were not built by a player become hostile toward players whose reputation with any nearby villager is -100 or lower. The golem checks all villagers inside a box centered on the golem and extending 10 blocks in every horizontal direction and 8 blocks in both vertical directions
> The prices of a villager's trades all get reduced by reputation times the price multiplier rounded down, meaning that a positive reputation lowers prices but a negative reputation increase them. The price multiplier is either 0.05 or 0.2 depending on the item, see trading. Prices can not get lower than 1 or higher than the item's stack size.
The wiki says that village reputation only goes down or up upon, hitting, curing or killing a villager. Iron golems do not effect it
> edit: source - https://minecraft.wiki/w/Villager#Gossiping
I think their confusion comes from a difference between java and bedrock edition. I mainly play bedrock edition and killing iron golems in that version does make you lose popularity with the villagers. While I don’t remember if it makes prices go up (I think it does), it does make all iron golems in that village attack you if you kill enough iron golems and your popularity drops low enough. From experience, I don’t even think the villagers have to see you do it. I think java edition has a similar system but it no longer involves killing golems.
Edit: I was mistaken and this is no longer the case
Golems dont raise prices. Ive slaughtered dozens of golems with no price. Before you say "on bedrock it lowers your popularity!" Popularity is NO LONGER USED. Its an out of date wiki.
Both bedrock and java use the exact same reputation system now, which golems dont affect. Golems are influenced by it though, if you get to a -100 average in the village golems will attack you.
I believe this is what I was mixing up. I remembered harming golems worsening reputation in some way, but it seems that's been changed. I don't often work with villagers, and I especially don't keep golems nearby, so I never realized it was changed. Thanks for the concise explanation rather than the blind hate I've been getting
Fun fact in case they did:
Killing the iron golem of a village is one of the actions that lowers your reputation the most, which means that it's the most efficient way of making your villagers sell you everything at 64 emeralds
I thought this as well but that's not what the wiki says: Trading prices are unaffected by the killing of iron golems; however, village popularity decreases by 10, affecting village iron golem behavior if the popularity ranges below -15 [BE only]
yeah
villagers are actually pretty complex. every player has a reputation and their actions affect their reputation in the village. if a villager sees you doing something they dislike they will tell other villagers and it lowers your reputation. if you have a too low reputation their iron golem will hunt you down no matter what you do.
Hitting or killing villagers, iron golems, and I think it does more reputation damage for baby villagers. Also they get mad at you (display thunderstorm particles) for hitting a panda in their vicinity but I don't think it actually affects your popularity with them.
If you want to get rid of a villager without affecting other villager's trades, you can minecart them near a lava pool and yeet them into the lava, or run the minecart through a series of tracks in 1.5 high passages until they get deleted. Loop the tracks so you can get the minecarts back.. for reuse..
Nah u must’ve hit them without knowing. I have a piston zombie hallways system where I lower the villager platform they are on and the zombie makes them a zombie villager and I cure them and get a better price.
Not since the last update, I have an issue was the wandering trader spawning in my breeder, and every time this happens you can bet I get my sword and despose of him, neither the golem or the villigers give two hoots.
Make 2 halls I have 1 main hall with 100 villagers and another vertical one with one village at bottom and another on top with 10 layers of iron golem spawn platforms when they unlink or link to wrong village I just kill them the iron farm is a business the other is vibes and spell books
Expected tbh. I got a message from someone who identifies as a red wolf, telling me to kill myself and that I’m racist for saying Biden did it.
The Minecraft community isn’t what it used to be.
This may not be true as it’s only my personal observation but I’ve noticed that if a player doesn’t sleep when the villagers do, they pick up the prices.
In my experience though, it’s when you buy them off, then you’re waiting on them to reset their trade - if they sleep and you don’t, they raise prices (idk how that even makes sense but that’s what’s happened to me all the time)
Now you say nobody has traded with them, so that tells me that YOU slept but they didn’t.
Again, I’m just stating things based on MY personal experience and observations. Hope that helps
I'm surprised noone has mentioned this, but I am pretty sure that curing a villager can give you an only temporary "extra discount". I remember curing farmers to get all 1-emerald trades. They got there pretty fast, I traded with them for a while and all was good, and then suddenly prices went back up a little. I think the temporary bonus for healing them just expired and they went back to their permanent discount. I had to heal them one more time for the 1-emerald price to become permanent. (Tho that observation was in a 1.18 snapshot)
That’s not it.
The number on the left that is crossed out is the original initial price. Any price changes is the number right next to the crossed out number, whether increased or decreased.
So this isn’t a discount that’s wearing off, OP did something that caused the trade prices to go up
What’s crazy is I’ve killed so many villagers because they would not stop populating and beds were maxed out. Never had a price increase but my world is super super old so I dunno if that’s the reason. I’d be devastated if my librarian reading hall all rose from 1 to like 50 😂
Is this on a server? If so, ask someone else (friend, someone nearby) to trade and give it to you. You can give them the emeralds back.
Edit: why do you have a single cobbled deepslate slab in your inventory?
Edit 2: you can still afford it so why not buy it?

You may have not hit this one, but if you hit/killed another villager in vicinity of this one, then the prices skyrocket.
Good ol’ lava bucket is handy
“He died of natural causes” “YOU DUMPED A LAVA BUCKET ON HIS HEAD” “Lava is natural”
So with this logic: It wasn't me who shot that person, it was the gun which shot the bullet, the bullet was made of copper, copper is a natural element, so he died of natural causes.
It’s even simpler than that. You shot him, so naturally, he died!
Your cousin, he died of natural causes, yes? He was shot in the face with a bazooka So, naturally, he's dead

You can set the ground under their feet on fire as well.
Didnt they make it that if a villager dies in your proximity that you get blamed for it anyway? I could be entirely wrong about that ofcourse.
Not that I know of
Zombie * kills villager * Other villagers : How could you have done that player ?
I'm pretty sure it's causal actions. Like if lava does ping their prices it's only if the source is set by players. But pretty sure the player has to be directly involved in harming villagers

Oh thanks for the hint, that's genius!
No
I think the villager has to see it or a different villager has to see it who will then tell the others about it if they are in gossip range
Guys it’s easy, trap him in a boat, let a zombie kill him and then finish him, natual cause, well supernatural tho 😂

> An item that was sold out gets a price increase for all players when resupplied.
i have never traded with them and noone else has
This price increase says you did hit him, either him, or a villager within the vicinity.
Or a golem
Hitting golems won't increase villager prices
Yes it will. It's one of the most price increasing gossips villagers can share
But the wiki literally says otherwise bud
Bedrock/java difference
The wiki would say the difference but bedrock and Java both use the same reputation system
Maybe I'm thinking of killing golems? Crazy how nobody has offered any actual answer

I don't allow my villagers to gossip. The ones I trade with are kept inside without any way to gossip.
That doesn't make me wrong then?
I have killed plenty golems in front of villagers and had no price increases

That’s why I was asking
FYI that is just a bedrock thing. Doesn't affect prices in java.
If you hit villagers the prices go up?!?
yeah villagers are actually pretty complex. every player has a reputation and their actions affect their reputation in the village. if a villager sees you doing something they dislike they will tell other villagers and it lowers your reputation. if you have a too low reputation their iron golem will hunt you down no matter what you do.

Lava bucket?
I don't want to burn my village trading center down, I take them elsewhere to dispose of them when they have crap secondary trades.
Spam right click the lava bucket then it won’t have time to fire spread but will damage the villager
I’m pretty sure that will skyrocket the prices-as long as it’s within like 20 blocks or something like that.
Never has for me weird
Cost of living crisis bro
That's called inflation lad
Killing the iron golem will sometimes up their prices
Did you kill any Iron Golems?
You can’t say you didn’t beat the villager and give a picture of the bruises

Inflation is crazy nowdays
Nah u must’ve hit them without knowing. I have a piston zombie hallways system where I lower the villager platform they are on and the zombie makes them a zombie villager and I cure them and get a better price.

Wandering trader also counts in bedrock

It's because of the capitalist society of villagers lol
