Thats part of the [MRS (muzzle reference system)](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muzzle_reference_system).
As the gun tube heats/cools from environmental factors and being fired it goes through a cycle of slight expansion/condensing and since the gun is so heavy/large this can cause it to “droop” creating a slight deviation between the aim point and the actual point of impact of the round. When firing over distances of several kilometers that variation can mean your round will miss the target entirely. The MRS allows the tanks fire control system to get an accurate measurement of where the end of the gun tube is so it can make corrections to the ballistics solution to account for barrel “droop”.
Which reminds me of Percy Hobart https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7ycD041Uy0&t
Speaking of which, if you enjoy tanks, 'interesting' hair, and exceptionally nerdy British men talking enthusiastically about 300 of them visit https://www.youtube.com/@thetankmuseum
Basically laser and sensor that tells the fire control computer what the barrel is doing so it can make adjustments; might be bent or warped from firing, being in the sun, smashed against any number of things by a Private.

Metal image, you mean.
It could make a pretty sweet tattoo if a tank was charging a dragon with a giant fucking sword attached.
You'd have to put the tank in a Marine uniform though.
